  • Beeswax paper is a great alternative for the plastic wrap and plastic bags that we're used to on a daily basis and it's super fun & easy to make! 🐝🍯

    Without an oil the beeswax will flake off, and it wont be sticky enough without pine rosin. I even put lemongrass essential oil in mine for extra protection.

      I have been making these for about 5 years. I started out using oil and resin and went to only using beeswax. I use washed thin linen or cotton. The thinner the material the better.
      When they start to look rough and don't cling, lay them between paper again and run a hot iron over them. If they are used a lot maybe once a month. When reheating no longer works just re-wax them. ✌

    • @altitudeiseverything3163
      @altitudeiseverything3163 Před 3 lety

      @@a.mar.lifestyle The oil and the resin perform 2 different functions: the oil makes it more pliable and resistant to cracking, while the resin makes it sticky and improves the seal. I’m allergic to pine resin, so I’ll just use the beeswax and a little jojoba oil.

    Someone mentioned to pre wash the fabric because of sizing but also manufacturer puts formaldehyde on the fabrics so you will want to remove that too.

    • @altitudeiseverything3163
      @altitudeiseverything3163 Před 3 lety

      Formaldehyde is usually meant to be a ‘permanent’ treatment and is *very* difficult to remove completely (which is why it’s called “permanent press”). Soaking overnight in a strong vinegar solution can help break it down, followed by several washings. Safer and easier would be to simply buy untreated organic cotton.

    • @altitudeiseverything3163
      @altitudeiseverything3163 Před 3 lety

      All three. Beeswax to coat the fabric, with a few drops of oil to make it more pliable, and resin to make it sticky.

  • @marcellakramer7118
    @marcellakramer7118 Před 3 lety +1

    You didn’t mention that you should wash your fabric first with a mild scent free soap and no fabric softener, as it has sizing in it and I wouldn’t want that covering my food products... just a little helpful hint...👍🏻 I’ve made these, and in fact I have a request for more to be made this Christmas for gifts for a number of people... I love making them and I agree with helping keep plastic bags/wraps out of the environment !!

    • @marcellakramer7118
      @marcellakramer7118 Před 3 lety

      Forgot to add that it will be more pliable if you add pine rosin and also jojoba oil to your mixture... It is definitely a huge help and after a 100-200 uses and just wiping them after each use w/ cool water and a mild soap , rinse and let air dry... you can then add fresh beeswax to reuse them for another 100-200 uses think how much help you will be giving our environment, one final thing, when you talked about the fabric be sure it is 100% organic cotton and if they get worn out ever it will be compostable!!! 👌🏻

    Hey there! Love this video! Can’t wait to follow you on Instagram. I’ve noticed that people use pine resin and jojoba oil for the wraps. Do you think the beeswax alone is good enough ? How long does one last you? Is it sticky enough?

    • @amelia2228
      @amelia2228 Před 5 lety

      Natasha I don’t think you necessarily need the other ingredients it just makes it stickier but if you just use the beeswax it should be fine, only thing is sometimes the beeswax can start to sort of flake off but if you just put the wrap in the oven for a couple seconds so the wax re melts down they will be as good as new 👍🏽

    I love the idea of you making a video but using coconut oil and johoba oil will make this last longer and be more plyable. Add pine resin to make it sticky. I own love wraps in cairns and have been studying bees wax wraps for 2 year and I fell its important to sharing that bees wax wraps is not not bees wax on fabric. Your wrap will just fall apart in a week if you do it like this

      I have been using my beeswax wrap for 4 months now, I have washed them and reused them many times. I only used beeswax and the wax is NOT coming off.
      Be careful with what oil you decide to use as it will eventually turn rancid...according to another youtuber...I have not checked this out yet.
      I am getting ready to do a few more today and am going to try using beeswax and soy wax flakes to see if that makes them more pliable.

    • @teed9796
      @teed9796 Před 4 lety +2

      I agree. I’ve played with many ratios and ingredients while making these over the years. Using jojoba oil and resin makes them a far superior product for ease of use, performance and longevity.
