      Are u saying this camera is great for vfx? I’ve been going through CZcams for some hours now I’m looking for a great camera that’s crazy priced. That’s why the Sony fx3 that they used to film the creator got my eyes. If there’s any video out there you know of which takes a look through the next cameras for filmmaking that works well for adding vfx and those stuff too, thanks ❤

  • @noexxcellent
    @noexxcellent Před 9 měsíci +6

    I don't understand; you keep saying that a global shutter is how film cameras works.
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but film cameras actually do have a physical shutter that is rotating to block the light from hitting the film as it is descending. We were discussing rolling shutter issues back then because of the physical rolling shutter that exposed the film from top to bottom or left to right, for example.
    So, for me, a global shutter is pretty much a digital camera thing, and I believe it's revolutionary as it addresses the long-standing issue of the so-called "rolling shutter".
    Anyway, great video! I love the way it's done!
    Do you think we will see more cinema cameras with a global shutter in the future ?

    • @aristotle_4532
      @aristotle_4532 Před 9 měsíci

      Global shutter is better than film in its shutter and the perfect way to do this, but in most applications there is no problem with other methods. Ccd was global shutter with some overexposure ans mutlitap reading artifacts. The problem with global shutter is that there is a loss of more than 1 stop in dynamic range. It becomes important in some scenes. You can be sure the dynamic range of this camera is poor compared to a canon c70, about 3 stops inferior, but it will mostly be used in sports, and most people are not aware of the massive advantage a canon c70 or a new alexa has compared to all other cameras so there is no problem. Photographers do not need much dynamic range, a typical lut only offer 3.5 stops over mid value of exposure.

    • @kencrisp6333
      @kencrisp6333 Před měsícem

      You're correct. Film cameras had either focal plane shutters or leaf shutters. The focal plane shutters had either vertical or horizontal travel, and they didn't expose the entire image at the same time like the global shutter does.

    Film cameras do not work like global shutters. There is the mechanical shutter that has to open and then close or there is a spinning shutter that takes time to "roll" across the frame. Global shutter is one of the true aspects of digital being better than film. however, you'll just need to add another 48megapixels or so. I'm not sure what film maxed out resolution is, I know its significantly higher still than regular digital cameras, photo stacking is super cool though so another digital win.

    This would be interesting to try on a LED stage where global shutter is a pro, and you might manage to do video shoots without genlock even. The a9III could also open up still photography in led volumes, as it is quite limited atm with other stills cameras that dont have GS, or genlock for that matter.

  • @mk-pn2rk
    @mk-pn2rk Před 9 měsíci

    Two things about global shutter:
    1. The camera isn't "reading" the sensor all at once. The readout is still sequential. The difference is that with a global shutter, the exposure starts for all pixels at the same time and ends for all pixels at the same time. After the exposure, the collected charge is transferred to a light insensitive part of the photosite where the charge awaits being converted to digital.
    2. Film actually doesn't work that same way. Film doesn't have a shutter at all, it relies on a mechanical shutter. It can be either a focal plane shutter or a leaf shutter, but a mechanical shutter is always necessary with film. Focal plane shutter curtains can go fast or slowish, and will exhibit a rolling shutter effect to a degree - just like a mechanical shutter will on digital cameras. A leaf shutter has other issues, but doesn't have any rolling shutter. Hasselblad medium format camera lenses use leaf shutters and you can test that yourself.

    I am returning mine after 5 days of use ! this camera is definitely not for flash photography/ studio ! first of all shutter speed goes at max at 16000 shutter speed at multiple mode shoot only. 80000 shutter speed is only in single mode shoot! color shits are all along those variable speeds you need to sync flash manually in order to shoot with variable shutter speed,and it's time consuming, and i suspect that its still not accurate and it might be the reason for power color shits strength light intensity inaccuracy .Another issue is the noise and Aperture change at values like f8 noise is so big and noticeable that it makes picture not usable bottom line its a real downer on photography side but videography is definitely a big high

    Well, I almost never shoot videos where rolling shutter will matter, and unlike your feeling, I never realized that without a global shutter, the footage would not look as cinematic... but if DR here is like you say almost like in other Sony cameras, then it is a great tool. Just 24MP is too low for me, and 6000$ is too high. Now for 8K RAW 120fps with global shutter and a good DR, I would pay $ 6000 but not for this one.

    Global shutter works so well in video. I see it immediately. Handheld looks good. No jello. I’d take that over stability personally 😂

    Coming from the world of scientific cameras (for microscopes) it surprises me that the majority of the cameras still use rolling shutter. I don’t get it.
