Recently I bought a 2nd hand car for 30 thousand pesos. (LANCER ‘81) I was excited due to it was my FIRST CAR! bought with my very own hard earned money saved for 2 yrs ! In too deep in my excitement, I didn’t look very well into the papers. And just decided to register it later. After a few brief checking, I just excitedly laid down the money and bought the car. Ang Di ko alam, I just found out by and by that the car I bought belonged to an original owner who had died in a serious accident involving the car itself and at the same time hitting a pedestrian dead in the process. And the car was just repaired. Plus, the original CR owner name was different from the OR. Now I even have doubts if the car was a stolen vehicle. Can you please kindly advice me how can I fix this? How can I register it?

Kasi ganito po, naka bili po ako ng sasakyan under po kay owner A and ito po ay naka leased. Si Owner A po sinurrender nya kay Toyota financial. Binenta ni Toyota ulit ang unit kay owner B at si owner B binenta sa akin ang sasakyan. Si A po may voluntary surrender with special power of atty to sell sya at si owner B may deed of sale po sila with Toyota and secretary certificate. After po from B to my name may deed of sale naman. Pano po ba ito itransfer from owner A to my name? Thank you po.
Some people do a similar thing where they buy repossessed cars and leave the deed of same blank. Check if you can use the documents from Owner A. Since it’s their name in the CR, you will need the documents. ID, etc from them. Gather all the documents from Owner A, B, and Toyota and assess what else you need (chances are, you need all of those po)

The confirmation of OR/CR you say can be applied for online. We bought our car in Cebu but it was first registered in Manila so where online do we apply for the confirmation and do you know the particular form or code? Very helpful many thanks
I'd rather walk and take the jeepney than go through all this. In other countries, after you finish paying your chattel, the chattel mortgage holder will send you the vehicle title stating it is free of any encumbrances. Very simple. No need for clearance. No need for multiple trips. Nothing.

Hi R2APh, we went to HPG and showed our requirements for a car we bought from a person who bought it as a Repo from the bank. HPG told us to process a payment on the Registry of Deeds even though we already have a notarized Cancellation of Mortgage from the bank. Is this the same with your experience before? Thank you
They did provide me with everything but the changing of name would be our job because a lot of people buy a repossessed car and resell it so they don’t transfer ownership to their name
Hi, also bought a used car, The OR CR was transferred to my name last 2018, will the renewal be from the date it was transferred or the initial registration date which was back in 2017?
It should be renewed every year. Month based on the LAST digit of your car. 1=January and 0=October. If you didn’t renew last 2019, you’ve been driving with expired OR (illegal), and will be charged penalty :(

They were all provided by the bank. They het all these documents when the previous owner surrenders the vehicle

It should be okay because you’ll have to drive that to the Crime lab for inspection.

The bank will provide this and you have to sign it (if you're the one buying). They will also have all the papers from the prev owner.

Hello, if from casa then it’s probably new but maybe it was used for test drive, etc. You should be able to see this sa car registration or by checking sa lto (text “LTOVEHICLE *plate number*” send to 2600

Needs to be cancelled. Bank should be able to help you with that. I shipped mine also because it was registered in Bohol

Hi R2APh, we went to HPG and showed our requirements for a car we bought from a person who bought it as a Repo from the bank. HPG told us to process a payment on the Registry of Deeds even though we already have a notarized Cancellation of Mortgage from the bank. Is this the same with your experience before? Thank you
Yes. The cancellation of chattel mortgage is to be shown to the registry of deeds. ☺️

They did provide me with everything but the changing of name would be our job because a lot of people buy a repossessed car and resell it so they don’t transfer ownership to their name

Hi, also bought a used car, The OR CR was transferred to my name last 2018, will the renewal be from the date it was transferred or the initial registration date which was back in 2017?
It should be renewed every year. Month based on the LAST digit of your car. 1=January and 0=October. If you didn’t renew last 2019, you’ve been driving with expired OR (illegal), and will be charged penalty :(
Example, : ABC 123 (3=renew EVERY March)
