Most Irish conflate their own history with the Palestinians. Ireland was colonised, subjugated and oppressed by the British for hundreds of years. They see wrongly see Israel, enabled by Britain as colonisers of Palestine and oppressing the Palestinians. The PLO, who couldn’t defeat Israel militarily were masters at propaganda and convinced the International community of the alleged persecution of the Palestinians. In fact it was Arafat who created the construct of the Muslim Arabs as being Palestinians. He also supplied arms to the IRA and facilitated terrorist training camps for them during their campaign in the 70s, 80s & 90s. In essence, they question the legitimacy of the state of Israel & additionally see it today as a vassal state of the USA which is heavily influenced by the Jewish lobby.
Palestine was colonised by the Arabs and successive other Muslim empire builders.
