- Palma de Mallorca, Spain, is one of Europe's most visited (and unseen!) capitals... Confused? Watch Part Two of my guide to Palma de Mallorca to find out what I'm wittering about...
Palma de Mallorca, Spain, is a wonderful city, on the sun-soaked island of Mallorca, situated out in the Med, equidistant from Valencia and Barcelona on the mainland. Mallorca is very well known as a resort island, but I promise you there is so much more to this place, and your first port of call should be the island's capital itself - Palma!

Also, a HUUUUGE shout out and thanks to Urban Drivestyle for the loan of the amazing UNIMOKE for the day. It's an insanely fun ride, as solid as a tank and the perfect way to dash about any city! Check them, and their awesome electric fleet, out at the link below:

Dennis! Great stuff... hey to you up there! Take it easy :D
Used to live and work close to Palma and still love coming here regularly out of season. Fortunately, tourists mainly don't. I avoid it like the plague in summer.
In October its getting better, but its still busy after covid ended, looks like people are getting here later than earlier.
Just found your channel, I am from Edinburgh but live in New Zealand. Your videos give me the chance to travel virtually and see a part of the world I dream of visiting. Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing. Miss that Scottish accent.
Hey! Thanks so much, and glad you enjoy them. Even better news: I've just returned to Edinburgh from years in Spain and will be updating a lot of the videos in 4K... good timing to find the channel haha. Take care!
Ruairidh, certainly is beautiful, glad you took us along, great video!! Stay safe..
Anna! Thanks so much for watching, take care too :)
Best travel vid I’ve ever seen. More videos please sir
I have a friend who lives there and he’s really wanting me to visit. He’s mentioned a few times that the amount of tourists is depressingly high and that the historic culture is slowly being sucked dry, but hey…still looks beautiful. Thanks for your tours of this beautiful place. 😁👍
Eat🍗drink 🍻sleep 😴repeat 🤪😄🤣 great as always mate & loving the new bike 🚲 👍
Gavin! Cheers, m8 - wish I could keep it! Super fun, but just a loan...
@@RuairidhMason I'm heading out there on the 17th of june.. It will be my first venture out, from our brown shores of Britain, lol.. How much is the rental on the Ebikes? Looks a cool way to get out and see the city.. Thank you for the video 😊
@@Anthony-rt1ol Fantastic! Enjoy the trip. Think we'll get out in August :D The e-bike I got was loaned to me by the owner of the company (Urban Drivestyle - German company with a presence in Mallorca), but they only do sales as far as I'm aware. I have seen them around the streets so it's possible someone else is renting them. The model is called 'Unimoke', so maybe have a Google around. It was great for seeing the city, and effortless fun too!
Very cool video, mate! The only true guide to this place.
MB! VERY kind of you! Thanks so much for watching :D
Great video again! Looking forward to my next visit to Palma in a few weeks, can't wait!! 🍻🍻🥘😎
Paul! Apologies for the sloooooooow response... Enjoy your trip in a week!!
Inspired by your fun video. Been to Palma some 10 years ago , going in September for a city break, you’ve just inspired me and sorted my itinerary out basically! Thank you . So informative with such a charismatic approach, loved it.
Going to Palma in 2 weeks - your videos are wetting my appetite!
I'm glad!!
Great Video!! You are super funny!
Thx Karen!
Enjoyed those two videos. Wife and I arriving tomorrow for 5 days and now we have some ideas of where to go. Thanks mate..!
Sorry for slow response! How was the trip? Hope you had a belter.
Thank you tour guide Extraordinaire! Just finished a couple of days in Palma and you helped make it muy bueno! Great info!
Ruairidh, really enjoying your videos - quite informational and super funny!👌🏻 Thanks for sharing! 😊
Robert! Glad you're enjoying them, and thanks a lot for watching! Take care... R
👍👍👍SUPER!👍👍👍
Love the video man, even more, the style you bring to the video and the humor that accompanies it.
Keep em coming 👍😎
Luka! You’re very kind, thanks for watching and enjoying. And thanks for being in the small minority of people who like the jokes 😁
I would love that!!
Just booked a week in Palma. Love it!
Hope you enjoy Matthew!
I'm from Mallorca, you pronounced Llull very well.
Really enjoyed all your videos. We are coming to Palma in July this year. Can’t wait 😀
Jane! Many thanks for watching and glad you enjoy them. I'm desperate to get back this summer too! Have a great time, and if you need any tips or advice, gimme a shout here :D
Great video again! I found this out about Bellver Castle when I took my daughter up there, but it's free entry on a Sunday and there's a really nice walk through the woods around that area too, with picnic areas and ziplines. Don't forget Marivent and the King's Palace gardens that you can have a walk around, and Cala Mayor beach at the bottom of that hill too... Looking forward to the next video!
Hey! I was told Marivent was shut when I was filming, but not sure. I love the woods around Bellver, the smell of pine! Want to bottle it and stick it in the car lol
Ruairidh Mason you’re right ! Just came past there now and the gardens are closed. Really hard to keep with what’s open and what’s not!
Hi..Visted palma de Mallorca several times and we love it for a city Break which is why i enjoy watching your video's and finding out a bit more about the place . Can't wait to be back.👍👍
Also as someone mentioned in the comments, watching your video's helps takes me back there 😃🍺🌞
Steve! I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. I hope we're both back there very soon and enjoying the sun! Take care and thx for watching. Means a lot :D
Love that bike
It was awesome to be loaned one for the day... great fun and I'm now sold on the concept of assisted peddling. Total breeze up the hill :D
Eres un genio tan gracioso!
Melina! Muchisimas gracias y Feliz Navidad!
Moving to palma de Mallorca next month for school 😁
Lara! Awesome, what are you studying? If you need any tips and recommendations, just message me here :D
Great vid Ruairidh - shipping over from London in September!
September! Great month to head over. Sept/Oct my fave two months on the island. No queues at the beach bars!
Makes me wanna go to Spain now.
Me too!
I go to Santa Ponsa twice a year and also go to Palma for the day/night, my god how I have missed it this year.
Craig! Mallorca has certainly missed the visitors, that's for sure. Take care and thanks for watching...
Ruairidh Mason Just means when I can get back over it’s going to be three times in a year. And thanks for the uploads best vlogs about the beautiful island I have found on CZcams.
@@craigbaker7957 Wow haha ok... Thanks for the compliment mate, makes it worth all the work. Take it easy and enjoy your next trip out whenever that is... Mallorca really is a phenominal island.
Going there in a week, great video guides dude, love the jokes in the tour 😂
Elliot! Thanks for watching and have a great time... the weather will be just perfect I'm sure. My fave time of the year in Mallorca - Oct.
Love your videos, roommate!
Haha! Hey how you doing man? Im still searching for The Red Horse in Europe lol
going to PM on 9th May flying from Liverpool
Supposed to be going on a cruise in August 2021 and found this video. It’ll help me realize what I won’t be seeing. Amazing place!
Nathan! Thanks for watching... I hope you make it to Palma after all this is over. A great place - sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Oops, I was thinking of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave). Nothing like what you had on your video! Lovely music still!
Aha! CZcams's free audio library is really pretty great. I always use music from their collection, otherwise there's always some copyright issue down the line (even when you pay sometimes). Not worth the hassle...
I think you covered it all mate! The only thing you might have missed is Marivent. Would be nice to see that on a clip. This might sound bizarre, but one thing I really love about Palma is the ring road. Especially that section running out towards Andratx and the coastal interchange. Those tunnels and slip roads flow so beautifully. Love to tackle those in the MX-5!! All the best pal 😀
Chris! I thought about Marivent for the video but I heard it's shut. We used to go a lot to La Parada del Mar - seafood restaurant right infront of the gates... I'll say, the roads are pretty good here right now, they've renewed large chunks of the autopista. Ever been to Menorca? The road between the two main towns is an awesome drive, although sketchy as hell in the dark.
@@RuairidhMason Shame about Marivent, I guess they need to keep the place Covid free in case the Royal Family turn up! Have been to Menorca once and loved it. Stayed at Cala En Porter which has a lovely cove beach, and the coolest cave bar called Xoroi. I drove from here to Cuitadella, but it was 10 years ago and I can't really remember what it was like. I do remember visiting this derelict housing estate called Shangri-La which was absolutely fascinating. Me and the missis love stuff like that, exploring abandoned hotels and buildings and stuff. There were plenty in Corfu! Love your Uni Moke btw, is it completely assisted or can it ride on electric power alone? Cheers mate!
@@chrislox1 Cuitadella was where we stayed, really nice wee town, found all the good bars (naturally). I was blown away by the beaches/coves in Menorca, I actually still have a video to edit about our trip there. Loved it, can't wait to go back. The bike is pedal assisted power (literally effortless when you set it to max), but they can be modified with a throtle (illegally I think, in Spain at least). Great fun though. And built like a brick shithouse!
@@RuairidhMason Haha, that's German build quality for ya. Looks like the kind of bike that's only missing Steve McQueen and a barbed wire fence! Look forward to your next vid. All the best from Covid wrecked Nottingham 👍
Hi, I was checking out this video as I’m looking at making a Palma video soon, needed inspiration , and boy you gave me some....
Love the channel and your soh,,, be interesting to meet and chat sometime,,, cheers Andy
Hi Andy, thanks a lot, glad you found it interesting. I'm currently back in "Sunny" (ahem) Scotland, but should be back next year. This weather is going to take some getting used to again. Freezing and windy and wet every day almost! Take care and speak when I'm back :D
Are you on Facebook? Be good to chat together, do u live in Mallorca
Hi ruairidh smashing video as always mate weather still looks decent for october i always liked the marina in palma its nice to sit in a bar on the front and look at all the yachts i cant afford 🙁ive been in that bar in palma nxt to the museum great view from the bar never been to santa cataluna (have i spelt that rite )😂looks lovely with all the nice bars and restaurants saturdays sound great with the vermooth and tapas does it taste like buckfast ruairdh😂 anyway great video as always have a fab weekend and dont drink too much 👍🍺🛵
Robert! You know, some of the vermouth def. has a "buckie" quality, but most of it - to me - tastes like flat Coke. Sweet as HELL (so that's why I always have it with a cheeky beer... too much for me and my dentist on its own).
We went to the Marina bars once... bill scared me off haha. And Santa Catalina is a cracking place - bit posh for my liking, day to day - but the eating and drinking in the market on a Saturday afternoon is awesome fun... although, when you're back, I'd recommend checking out the neighbourhood market in Pere Garau neighbourhood (10 min walk from the old town). It's way more local, cheaper than the other one, neighbourhood's a bit sketchy (which I always enjoy lol), and the market there is amazing. Buy some prawns, seafood, whatever you want, and head to the Cuban bar inside the main market around 1.30 / 2 (it's the one with all the noise)... they'll cook it all up for you and throw booze at you til you're grinning :D
Have a great weekend, mate... I might accidentally swallow a beer around lunchtime, then we'll see what happens :/
PS - You into classic scooters?
😂flat coke ill need to try some of this vermooth mate 👍a wonder if they sell it in ma local supermarket 🍾if u recomend any brand ruairidh let me know please and ill try and look out for it when i buy my weekend carry oot 🍺thanks for taking the time to let me know about a few places in palma to visit when i return to the island especially the market place as i do luv ma seafood and the cuban bar place sounds good especially if there throwing drink at u 🍺need to remember keep ma gub open 😂 yeh im into classic scooters ruairidh iv got a vespa lookalike kind of retro model 125cc modena 55mph downhill 😂 most people like and buy the lambrettas but the older models break down a lot 🛵went to the quadrophenia 40th anniversaray in brighton las yr on ma scooter 🛵well we flew down and one of the boys took the scooters in a big van😂u mite be a bit young mate to remember that film😂a would send u some videos and pics but i dont know how to via youtube👍anyway mate thanks for the info on palma have a great weekend and enjoy ur lunchtime beer and stay safe P.S if theres anyway i can send u some pics and videos of the scooter give us a shout 👍🍺🛵
Ruairidh, my friend and I are arriving in Palma tomorrow. We love the craft beer scene. Any recommendations? Thanks.
Hey! Lórien (city centre, old tavern style) take their beer very seriously, and in Atomic Garden (Santa Catalina - lovely neighbourhood; like an indie music or rock dive bar) too! We've been to both many times. Hope you'll enjoy and def. off the tourist trail.
*Also... and nobody is sure it's open... Atlantico... Regular bar... but you should go. An institution here in Palma.
@@RuairidhMason Thank you for replying. I had read about Lorien and we will definitely give it a visit! 🍻
More and more I really fancy visiting Palma, Ruairidh. Your suggestion of going in October or November sounds good. Maybe next year? Loved the classical music. Is that music not something to do with Scotland? Stay safe 😘
June! Thanks a lot, it's a great city... a little "left behind the times" in areas, but they're renovating fast here. Well worth a visit. The song is Morning Mood, by Grieg - Norweigan fella, and free to use apparently! czcams.com/video/kzTQ9fjforY/video.html
Love your content :)How is the weather middle April? And maybe you could show us in one video a bit of the nature around Palma and if there are any hiking or trekking routes :))
Samo! Thx for the nice message! Weather should be very nice. Mallorca does an exceptional Spring. We're in the UK right now but I'd love to make a video of some nearby trekking. There's not a huge amount round Palma, but once you hit the hills you have a billion options. We used to really like going on the hike from Alaro village to the old castle on the cliffs. You can hike the whole thing in the morning (easy; couple of hours) and then time it to arrive at restaurant Es Verger at around 1:30pm for lunch. WORLD FAMOUS lamb and INCREDIBLE views. No reservations, just say hi at the bar and wait for your table in the sun, drinking a beer, looking at the cliffs. GREAT day out.
Edit: the restaurant is half way up the hike. Go to the top, turn back, stop half way down for lunch ;)
@@RuairidhMason Wow thanks for the tipps that sounds amazing, I appreciate it! :D Best of wishes for you and your channel
Hey man. I’ll be there in October for only 24 hours. I was thinking I’d occupy most of my time by renting an e-bike and biking the length of that coastal path. What do you think?
Hi great video love your commentary and videography I am actually considering going to live in Majorca. Is there any way you could give me more details on that lovely red ebike you are riding
Mark! Sorry for slow response... Thanks for the compliment and thanks for checking the vids out. I'd highly recommend living in Mallorca is you can make it work... great island. The e-bike I have was loaned to me from Urban Drivestyle - Berlin-based company. This one is called the 'Unimoke'. Great fun, built like a tank, and great battery life.
💜💜
Niamh... thanks for the double purple hearts... my fave!
We’re heading Friday, do you have a recommended route on foot? Your videos have us so excited!
Hey Sarah! Lucky you! You can start up at the Cathedral (beautiful views) and then just go for a wander around the alleys and streets of the old town.
From there, head down to Mistral for coffee - there are two, the new one next to La Rosa is very nice... or if you're ready for vermouth - go to La Rosa! It's lovely inside and vermouth is what everyone drinks to build an appetite for lunch... they also do excellent food - we go there all the time. If you want to have lunch there I'd recommend popping in ASAP - they open at 12pm - and make a reservation in person. Or you can just sit in the bar and eat, but it does get very busy at times.
After, head along Passeig del Born (tree-lined shopping street) and take a right up the alley beside Massimo Dutti. You can walk all the way up there towards Santa Catalina (nice neighbourhood) and I highly recommend stopping in the market for a few nibbles if you've not already eaten.
From here, have a wander, and then you can head back towards the old town by walking towards the sea and then heading left in the direction of the Cathedral again.
Just an idea, guys, but definitely try La Rosa if you can. I tends to be a real highlight of a break in Palma for a lot of people. Also, the Mercat d'Olivar in the old town (the central market) is worth a wander around -- you can stop for a beer or prosecco and sushi in the seafood hall. Good atmosphere!
Cheers and enjoy!
You are super funny- let's travel together!
Palma is good if you like culture and history. Can you still visit the tourists places in march.
Yes!
@@RuairidhMason Thanks. Any other places you can recommend to visit
@@tarny11 March is a good time of year to get up in the hills. I'd strongly recommend a visit to Valldemossa if you haven't been (short bus from Palma). Also, Soller Old Town and Port are really nice day trips too!
@@RuairidhMason Thanks for that . I'm thinking of a short visit to Palma so hopefully can visit those places. . Are taxi prices cheap from airport to Palma .

@@ro19official78 A looooong time ago, fun, but too stressful!
I am going to palma in two weeks. Where do we find the nicest cafés and restaurants? We are two adults.
Have a Nice Day 😊 Hello from Denmark.
Tina! Sorry for the VERY slow reply, but I think just in time! Great cafes: Around Passeig des Born (the central avenue with beautiful trees). I recommend Mistral coffee (the new one in Placa de Weyler) and a GREAT restaurant with a good price and amazing atmosphere is La Rosa (very near Mistral!). Also, if you love meat - La Cuadra del Mano is fantastic and very fun.

Visited in August and loved it. Your video is encouraging me take a city break in October. Hopefully. Thank you.
Adam! That's great news! October is a great time to go. If you need any info, recommendations, ideas, let me know. Cheers!
Plan on coming in sept? are the beaches worth it. You didn’t really cover the beach
David! Sept/Oct is best time to visit the island IMO. Less people, cheaper accom, availability of rental cars, etc. Also, weather is fantastic and the sea is warm. Palma city beach is fine for locals popping down for a quick swim, but I wouldn't recommend it for visitors. Near to Palma, a good, long city beach is at Playa de Palma (go to Bon Vent for lunch or a drink). Alternatively, you can jump in the car to Palma Nova for a resort-type beach with lots of local amenities... but, if you want something a bit more rustic and beautiful, head to one of the famous calas. Check out the beach videos on my channel for some recommendations - Mallorca's calas have some of the most stunning water in Europe, but you will have to drive from Palma.
Hi Ruairidh! I heard from a local that that ugly building by Palma beach was owned by an electrical company and has been abandoned at least since the 90s... However if you know better do let me know as I've always been curious about it!
Hey! Thanks for the comment - yes, you're correct... The story I heard last week from a Mallorquin friend of mine is that it is -- WAIT FOR IT -- protected as an fine example of the architecture of the era... My ears almost fell off LOL. You literally couldn't make it up. I'd be able to comprehend that reason (by the skin of my teeth) if they looked after the place, but it's a bombed out dumb covered with broken windows and graffiti. A true embarrassment to the city... Sorry, it's my real pet hate about this place: that F***ING building!!!
@@RuairidhMason Un-bloody believable! Totally agree, what an eyesore. Thanks for clearing up that mystery for me!
It's beyond me....
Where are you Ruairidh, you said in your video you'd respond to people's comments?
Hey Anne! I've seen this comment! Problem is, since saying that I'VE had 200 million views on the channel and now receive 200 comments a day. Its become "tricky". But please, if you have a Q ask away!
@@RuairidhMason Aw, thanks hun. I understand, you'll regret saying that as I've got 3 😃!! 1) I'll be staying at the JS Palma Stay hotel, any good? 2) It's 15 mins from airport, how much in a taxi? 3) Do they acknowledge GHIC cards in Mallorca, heard they can be a bit sniffy about them? Thanks a lot. 🤗
@@RuairidhMason hi again, I have a few questions, Ruairidh if you don't mind. See previous message. Thanks in advance.
@@AnneMitchell-mm5wx 1. I dont personally know JS Palma Stay, but the reviews across all sites look pretty good. Over 8/10 on Booking from over 2k reviews looks pretty good to me! 2. Taxi from airport to where we stay in Palma was always 15 minutes too, and we normally pay around 17-20 Euros, depending on traffic. 3. This is the info I've found: "The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) card still works for British citizens visiting Spain, even though the UK is no longer a member of the European Union. The UK government has confirmed that the GHIC card will be valid for British citizens visiting EU countries, including Spain. It's advised that you carry your card and passport at all times incase you need to access medical service. Also note, this will just cover basic state-funded health care - it's not a substitute for comprehensive travel insurance".
@@RuairidhMason thanks for that. Re GHIC, I know that's the official line but in reality I've heard Spain doesn't honour it, was just hoping for an inside track from someone like you. I understand if you don't want to dis Mallorca, tho. 🤐Thanks again.
