About me: My name is Ruairidh Mason (pronounced 'Roo-ray'), from Scotland, but currently based in Mallorca, Spain. In this Mallorca vlog, and in the other features I shoot around Palma de Mallorca and the rest of this amazing island, I hope to make you laugh (always a priority) and then fall in love with my adopted home (a close second).
Have you been to Mallorca? Planning on coming? I'd love to hear from you in the comments, and don't forget to subscribe and check out my other Mallorca vlogs and vids! Catch you soon, or as they say here "adeu!"

Hey folks! Hope you enjoy the video... I do need to correct myself though: I said Spain's Royal Family stay in the Almudaina Palace when in town - NOT true. They stay up the road in the Palacio de Marivent!
you're welcome Ruairidh
Come to our country, Egypt, there are different types of tourism :)
Very much appreciate your style of narrating. Thank for the peak at Mallorca - vising in a couple of weeks on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas.
Thanks Paul! Enjoy your trip, I’m very jealous!!
Lovely, I love Palma and Mallorca and will be there in a few weeks for my next cycling holiday 😊
Awesome! Enjoy!
Fun fact, that's where we park our car. Love it! More fun facts in the next video please.
Lucas! My definition of "fun facts" has diminished as the years have rolled on.
Excellent video. I visited Palma de Mallorca From years ago and went to Down Town and it has a wonderful beaches
Thanks for watching Manal!
We haven't been to Palma old town yet but we definitely plan to, great video, we love your narration.... "we park our car here Haha so human"

I think it's called "too much information". Haha. It's beautiful, and actually the graffiti is mostly relegated to some very small backstreets.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! With this pandemic we stopped traveling and your virtual tour of my favorite Palma brought so many memories. I like your sense of humor. The other labyrinth tour was fun, too!
Kalina, sorry for the slow response. Thanks so much for watching and glad the videos bring back some very fond memories. Palma awaits you!
Love your teleporting!!!
And you must have gotten up really early to shoot that! Beautiful!
Beautiful film. Very informative. Wish I was there!
You will be again!! X
Love the music in this video!
Loved the video and comments by author!
You’re too kind!
GREAT VIDEOS! Hopefully we'll be there this Fall! Your videos have convinced us! ❤️
Great news! Fall will be a fantastic time to visit. Less crowds = always a good thing. Late Sept / Oct is a winner :D
Hi excellent Video and I really enjoyed the tour of Palma never been but it looks amazing.
It's great visiting all these places while in lockdown..been down the Avenida in Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote this morning..ha ! Thanks for the video Ruairidh really enjoying them ..
Susan! Thanks so much for watching + glad you're enjoying! Haha, well it's something (better than being somewhere cold!). Shame that the San Juan celebrations have been cancelled tonight... I hope you're celebrating anyway. I'm clutching the bottle opener, counting the hours lol
Also noticed lots of Graffiti... such a shame
Looking forward to visiting Palma in July my last visit to Mallorca was 2019 amazing island so much history and the beach on your doorstep I'm already excited🤩
Mike! I'm heading back in a month for a few days. Looking VERY forward to it. Enjoy your trip!
4K looks amazing! I vlogged there last year. Wish I was there now in the sunshine
It's such a lovely city... Hope to see you back soon! Take care :D
Thanks for the tour Ruairidh. Looking forward to my first visit in September, although my wife's been there twice. Our first sun holiday in three years, looks like there's so much to see and do.
John, Ireland
John! You’ll have a great time! Check out La Rosa for a vermouth - mandatory and fantastic
@@RuairidhMason I'll certainly check out La Rosa for that vermouth, and no doubt a few other establishments!🍾
What a brilliant video. I love Palma and I am hoping to get back there this summer. Thanks for the info on the places I never knew about, I'll definitely seek them out next time. All accompanied by Ruairidh's rich Scottish brogue, 'gaun yersel'! Really great.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed… I’m back in Edinburgh for the time being, and the accent is getting THICKER!! Have a great summer X
Brilliant- thank you!!
Palma De Mallorca ❤
Great film as always Ruairidh. Nice smooth camera work. Did you use a gimbal or was it corrected in the edit? Thanks for posting the recommendations for bars and food. Always useful when there's too much choice. BTW, is Abaco staying open, and ever visited? Stayed in a nice Hostal just down the road from there called Ritzi, and ate at Ribello which was excellent. All the best mate😉
Thx Chris! It's actually almost all shot on the Go Pro Hero 8. The new hypersmooth setting is unreal... the camera's software just softens out all bumps, I'm super impressed with it (it does have other drawbacks - still very bad in low light). Abaco, I believe, will stay open, although still closed. It just depends how COVID impacts people indivudually. Quite a few places round my area that I wouldn't have imagined would go under have. I've only been in once to Abaco, it's an incredible scene in there. It's definitely got that atmosphere that very few places around the world have. Ritzi is still closed last time I looked, but a lot of stuff is. I'm expecting they're waiting until July. Take it easy, thanks for watching mate!
Great videos! Heading there for 2 days. Not wanting to do crazy adventuring, but rather relax. Where do you recommend I spend my time? Thank you!
Susana - sorry if this is too late - I missed your comment. If you've not been yet, I recommend just wandering around and getting lost. Let me know if you're yet to go and I can give you some tips if you have any specific Q's. X
Hi Ruairidh, ( hey, it is getting easier for me to type your name, as I am learning Scottish Gaelic with Duolingo... very chuffed) we watched this latest vlog yesterday. Really interesting. Lovely to be taken through the narrow streets and see the cathedral and other historical buildings. Jessie and I felt a bit queasy when you did that quick left and right turns through the narrow street! What is it like with the influx of those German tourists? Looking forward to your next vlog. Take care and stay safe. Love you and Kiki.
Well done on the Gaelic! Duolingo is great, and fun too. We're open borders now for everyone - German pilot scheme seemed to go fine, but Germany had COVID under control. Everyone is concerned about the Brits coming! July will be a test for sure. Take care guys! X
Ruairidh Mason Mm, when the Brits come, I suspect it will be a different scenario. We are not coping as well as Germany and the Westminster approach has not helped! :)
As always Mr mason great video of the old town and very interesting dialogue (think I’ve spelt that rite ) always good to hear a Scottish accent on your video but what a don’t get is the graffiti on the walls do people just accept it or is it a fashion thing but anyway weather looks good and there seems to be more people walking about now 👍looking forward to the next video as MAJORCA is a great island full of great looking places take care
Thx Robert! Yeah, there's lots of graffiti, some good stuff by local street artists (maybe I should do a video about it) but a lot of straight up vandalism. I think it's hard to stop, especially down these wee lanes where there's barely any people. Weather great, and busier on the streets and beaches now. July will be seriously busy... worrying! Take it easy!
@@RuairidhMason video on graffiti be great. My first visit to Majorca in 1997 . I was shocked by graffiti. Now I'm an older and wiser 50 something I appreciate and see it as art! Great to hear Scottish accent.
History
Prehistoric settlements.
The Balearic Islands were first colonised by humans during the 3rd millennium BC, around 2500-2300 BC from the Iberian Peninsula, by people associated with the Bell Beaker culture(the Basques/Celts/Holy Grail)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallorca
thinking of visiting port de soller and taking the soller train into Palma and spending a few hours. could you give advice on what best to see in the area of train station on foot hopefully including the cathedral. thanks
Gill! central Palma is very small and can easily be walked around in a few hours. I recommend the Cathedral (you don't need to stay long), a walk along Passeig des Born (beautiful tree lined avenue with shops and cafes), and you should pop into La Rosa for a vermouth! It's lovely in there and they also do fantastic food. A walk around La Lonja district is also nice... and very close to the train station is the gastronomic market of Olivar. You can find videos featuring all these things on my channel!
@@RuairidhMason many thanks Ruairidh sounds good.
Are you riding a e-scooter? How much do these cost on Mallorca?
Hi there..going to the city on my brothers stag..recommend any where to stay? Thanks
Quentin, I'm probably a bit late with this reply as I missed your comment. Really depends on budget. Let me know when you're off if it's not already been and gone.
Pity graffiti ruins so much of glorious Spanish cities.
Simon! Yes, it's a problem for sure...
Cette époque étrange où les journalistes détiennent le savoir et où les invités ont la charge de prouver qu'ils en savent quelque chose dans leur propre domaine d'expertise...
Wow, didn´t even know there had been a shopping center below Plaza Major. Yes, that´s a good tip re the noise in squares due to drunk people and especially the glass etc from the recycling. Okay now, I have to say this since you live there (or did), you have to start pronouncing Joan/Juan correctly with the H sound and not J. It´s just time.
It's so tragic, GRAFFITI! It's all over Europe, and in much of the US. Why don't people appreciate the work of those that came before us? I've never understood it.
