    I actually confuse which one SUV I need to buy.. it's Mazda CX 5, Xtrail or CRV for daily use.
    Personally I like CX 5 because of the premium look especially the interior but for the space fact I prefer Xtrail because have 5+2 seat and also CRV.
    Plz help me which one better.

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +4

      Ermm... the rear seats of the X-Trail offer very limited space, but if you need em means you need em la. (Have you considered the Mitsubishi Outlander)
      CR-V is the segment's best all-rounder. It's simply a question whether you just want the basic 2.0 i-VTEC, the 1.5T AWD, or 1.5T FWD with Honda Sensing.

    • @syedrazali6429
      @syedrazali6429 Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks for your opinion Kon,,
      Actually im not interested on Outlander.. Sorry :)
      will look for Honda CRV 2.0 or 1.5T FWD and also Mazda CX 5..
      Just want to ask you it is true if 1.5 turbocharge engine will resulting in highly maintenance cost for long term period etc after 5 years?

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +8

      There definitely will be higher maintenance costs. The turbo alone will have additional wear and tear parts plus fluids to change, plus don't forget your entire engine is running higher stress levels. The engine should continue to run reliably, but on the condition that maintenance intervals are accordingly respected.

    • @annuarrahman4199
      @annuarrahman4199 Před 6 lety +1

      I think you should try out the Diesel turbo for a whole day. Try driving it in the morning and during a hot afternoon. My experience driving Turbo in Malaysia, you'd notice the power loss during a hot day. Engines I've experienced were Golf 1.4 TSI MK6 and Kia Grand Carnival 2.2 Diesel. Hence why I plan to take the 2.5GLS. I also have to qualify that I like NA for the engine build up in speed. Turbo just can't give the same excitement especially especially on a hot day.

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +1

      Good enough point there. Actually, Mazda cars, in my experience, tend to be better balanced dynamically with petrol engines. Then again, I advocate the diesel model for the CX-5 mostly for its effortless low end torque.

    Hi sir. Loved your review...betul2 jujur...but just to check...between the 2.0 GL and GLS, does the safety features gives your a really difference in terms of safety? Are they very crucial or can safe driving also replace the features?As i am looking at the GS but still can afford a GLS (penat sikit at additional rm200++ per month).. thank you

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The bigger difference to me in the GLS are the convenience features... keyless entry, power boot. If budget is a factor, try Mazda Anshin and get a pre-registered GLS.

    Interesting review. I have got two questions.
    1) I have never driven a diesel engine before but i was told that in the long run there will be knocking sound like all diesel engines and the maintenance cost if higher in the diesel engine compared to petrol. Is this true?
    2) I test drove the 2.0 GLS CX-5 and CRV and found the CRV sluggish as in when i step on the pedal i don't get an immediate response from the car compared to CX-5. Do you feel the same too?

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +2

      1) Yes and no. Diesel engines utilize more consumables (such as engine oil) than petrol engine, but you recover that added cost quickly in the form of far superior fuel economy. You also don't have to worry about spark plugs, and diesel engines are generally built sturdier than their petrol counterparts.
      2) No comment, as I have yet to try the CR-V 2.0, but I'm not surprised. The CX-5's engine has direct injection, giving it better low- to mid-range torque than the port injection CR-V, hence the punchier feel.

    • @sa9593
      @sa9593 Před 2 lety +1

      As KWL rightly suggested, you should go for the 2.0 high version of the cx5. When comparing the x70 premium to the cx5 2.0 GLS, my personal preference would be the cx5. Mazda is a wayyyyyyyy more reliable brand than Proton. With Mazda, you can be rest assured that the maintenance cost will be lower and the fuel efficiency is better. X70 premium does have a few extra features, but the question is do you really need those extra features? Also, Mazda’s after sales is tried and tested. Proton X70 is comparatively a newer range and the after sales is highly questionable.
      Conclusion - if you want class and reliability, go for Mazda. If you want slightly more space and features, go for x70.

    Kon, need a clarification, in 12:44, you mentioned on autonomous emergency braking, a fast rushing vehicle coming from rear, and once the system detected that it will perform emergency braking by stopping all the 4 wheels. Is the system detecting the car in front or rear cars to avoid collision?
    If it’s on rear, would this going to cause higher chances of accident because there’s always cars rushing from behind either they bypass the cx5 (zic zac) closely or they breaking in the last seconds.

  • @jswong8200
    @jswong8200 Před 6 lety +2

    Kon, what are your thoughts about all keyless entry systems being susceptible to RF sniffing + rolling code decryption attacks? Just a casual search on Aliexpress reveal that you can buy such kits for even under US$40... keyless entry cloning kits.. it doesn't take much to attach external antennas to increase the range of these devices. I think there's still merits in regular remote control systems as unlike keyless entry systems, the key fobs won't respond to spoofed signals from such kits that enable car thieves to decode a car's rolling code and steal a car easily..

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +5

      +Jae Senn i see your point in this, and its admittedly scary. But if it's a car for my wife, I'd still pick a car with keyless entry. It eliminates the need for her to fumble through her handbag for the car keys at a parking lot... a lengthy stretch of time during which she can be potentially attacked. Yes, there is a risk of the car being stolen, but I'd take stealing over robbery anyday.

    • @patoises
      @patoises Před 6 lety +3

      interesting comment. I remember the time when a car key is an actual physical key that you have to insert into the door and twist (the horror!) to open the door, then it became a button on the fob and now key-less. In future, face or voice recognition technology will make even the fob/key-less redundant. Tech has so desensitize us idle people that we have lost sense of proportionality. Personally I don't mind fumbling in my pocket to press a button, it is not going to kill me. And I don't mean it as just a figure of speech because literally - if a robber/attacker/killer has their malicious eyes on me, I don't think whether I have key-less or not would be top their worries. There is enough time between opening the door, getting in and closing the door to do what they ill-intend to do. So that is a moot point. Therefore back to the original question which was more practically framed as key-less vulnerability versus car theft issue - i.e. should people opt for slight inconvenience as a trade-off against car theft risk. I think many people has this dilemma - what would your advice on this particular aspect?

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +3

      I like your well-reasoned train of thought, and there's no right or wrong answer to your question. Personally, I feel risk is something that people may or may not face, but convenience/inconvenience faces you day in day out. At the end of the day, it's peace of mind vs ease of use. What's your preference?
      Agreed that if a bad person has already marked us as a target, they'd mug us anyway keyless or not, but my point is that the window of opportunity is significantly lower. It also reduces the chances of amateurs getting at you.
      I still appreciate the good old action of twisting the key, but the ones that irritate me are cars with the start/stop button, but without keyless entry. Personally, if a car comes without keyless entry, I'd prefer there be a slot in which to insert the key fob.

    Like what was commented, the premium paint option increased in price from 2k to 3k in 2018, not something I’d opt for. On top of that, some other subjective feedback: powered seat adjustments tend to have more areas for adjustment eg lumbar support whereas manual may not have. Another area that’s affected for the GL is the centre console area is not soft touch, so your leg rests on hard plastic. What’s your thought on the lack of a front parking sensor though?

      Yeah, RM3k, my mistake. Agreed on your point with powered seats, but if you've saved RM14k off the purchase price, that's an acceptable omission. Front parking sensors will be useful for an SUV this size, but it's not a major handicap as you can always install aftermarket sensors.

      CR-V for outright practicality and space, CX-5 for design and driving enjoyment.

    which is better suv: 2018 CX-5 2L or 2017 Tucson 1.6 turbo?

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety

      Both are good. CX-5 handles better and has better cabin build, but Tucson Turbo offers punchier performance la.

    Since the cx5 gl comes with only the 17 inch rim, what is the impact to the car if we upgrade to the 19 inch rim which is offered by the higher spec cx5 ?

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety

      Pros:
      - Better looks
      - Better stability
      Cons:
      - More expensive tyres
      - Higher FC
      - Reduced straight line performance
      - Reduced comfort

    Hi Kon.. I have 2 questions.. need your opinion.
    1. If I take Mazda 2.0 GLS it is possible the acceleration will drop if I change sport rim from 17 inch to 18 inch or 19 inch.
    2. For your opinion which one the better suv it is Xtrail or mazda CX 5 if we focus on performance for daily use.

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety

      1. Acceleration will definitely take a hit. 18-inch may be okay, but 19-inch may lead to very sluggish performance and increased fuel consumption.
      2. X-Trail is more practical on the inside, but it is an aging model, and an offering of only 2 airbags continue to be a big disappointment for the price.

    • @syedrazali6429
      @syedrazali6429 Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks Kon for your opinion.
      Unfortunately for Nissan malaysia why still maintain same spec since 2014. 2 airbags is the obviously disappointed. I agreed about the aging model. Why nissan Singpore, Indonesia and Thai can bring the better spec and new facelift but not for nissan malaysia. :(

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 6 lety +2

      I can't answer this on behalf of the distributor, but I do say that the X-Trail is a handsome-looking car and I think is still the only one among its competitors to offer 360-degree camera.
      Still, the 2 airbag specification is a big Achilles heel, and it surprises me that it has not been addressed despite being roundly criticized.

      +PAN TENE i suppose given the engine's mild outputs, not entirely necessary, but the diesel definitely needs AWD.
