My neighbor found a bandless Casio duro marlin at an abandoned home demolition. He brought it to me and we discussed the watch in all it's details. When I was done explaining to him how fundamentally charming it is in its composure and value and slenderness and epitome he thought he had a treasure. Which he did. The Duro Marlin is an amazing watch. It doesn't have anything extra yet it isn't missing anything at all. It is the classic dive watch. Quartz reliability. Sunburst dial. Amazingly graceful on the wrist. Great caseback. Great Marlin symbolism. Honestly if I had a choice to wear the $50 Duro Marlin or a $5,000 Rolex. I would gladly wear the Marlin. Rolex is material. Marlin is spiritual.
Dale Christensen Same here. Some are ridiculously, embarrassingly, inexpensive which most guys here would consider "rubbish." I still love them anyway. Each one looks nice, and I don't worry much about them getting damaged, which I am prone to do.
There is a hell of a lot of value for money in that range. I started my collection with a Casio Duro actually and progresively started buying more expensive watches. I can tell you that the Duro is up there with much more expensive watches.
TGV one of the few watch lovers who doesn't bash on Casio a great brand in my opinion sooo much respect man I will keep watching your videos as long as you make them keep up the great stuff!
I have the DW5600 as my beater and I absolutely love it. Never thought I'd ever get a G-Shock, but it's just perfect for working out, doing yard work, washing the car. Probably the best $45 I've ever spent.
I never thought I would own a GShock, I now own three of them and tend to pick them over my other watches. They are just easy to use and comfortable. I am also thinking of adding a Casio edifice to my collection, I just find them to be an interesting and well made watch.
I'm a Land Surveyor and I have had several different model G Shocks . I have a few nice Automatics in my collection and they would NEVER last in the field like my G Shocks. I just picked up the Marlin today at Walmart for $54.00 +/- and it is a very cool little watch. I will be getting an assortment of NATO's for it I'm sure.
I love Casio watches. Low cost, accurate and rugged watch that I wear when doing harsh, dirty jobs. Quite a few engineers, mechanics and electricians use Casio watches at my work place.
Hello Tgv i am 16 years old and i must say that i love your channel i just bought my first ever "real watch" its an automatic sieko and i love it i truely get the passion for watches and just wanted to thank you
rosenfeld8 I am 14 and half year ago i bought my first automatic watch too! it was seiko 5 snk 807 i love it! i love watches i like to have something beautifull on my hand ;)
I have had a DW5600 for years absolutely love it 90% of the time I wear it I'm a car mechanic have tried other watches but they just fell apart on me . None can compare to this . The size and price there is simply no other watch I would use for work .
Same here, I am an automotive painter and I too wear the 5600. I've tried other cheaper Casios but the solvents would eat away at the acrylic crystals. The 5600 having a mineral crystal makes it resistant to solvents. I clean the over spray off it with lacquer thinner all the time and it still looks great (other than the wear and tear it has, but it just adds character).
So as a "Fossil" guy growing up in America in the 90's. I recently discovered your channel. There is this whole world of watches out there I had no idea about. I bought the Duro and have many more on my list. Thank you so much for teaching me a little class!! Such a cool hobby and now I'm hooked. :)
Wait a minute, are you telling me you are a watch enthusiast and never heard about Casio collection?? Ok, tell me more, I am listening. This is really interesting
One thing I should mention about the 5600: It's an amazing dive watch. I'm not much of a diver, but I have gone before. This watch accompanied on my last two dives, held up wonderfully snorkeling, and withstood being dropped, thrown against a wall, etc. It's a hell of a watch.
I just bought a blue Duro and it feels like it has almost ruined watch collecting for me. It is such a great looking watch compared with others that are multiple times more expensive in the quartz movement category, that I think finding a better value for the dollar is going to be a hard thing to do. Yes I love my Swiss automatic watch no doubt, but the Duro was 1/20th the cost and is still great to wear and look at.
I’m no fanboy of watches or brands, but for the money, the Citizen Promaster eco-drive should be on anyones list of divers watches. Depending when you catch it on sale, it can be less than $200. The lume is excellent, the bezel has nice functionality and it’s very accurate. I use it to set my mechanical watches as well. 200m of WR and solar powered is the icing on the cake.
i actually had a blue collar lumberyard job over the summer and wore that watch every day. it worked great, and I actually was popular on the job-site because I could quickly tell the time and nobody else had a watch on!
yeah, people seem to underestimate just how much of a beating even an f91w can take. It's the ak47 of watches, it's tough as nails with plenty of functionality. but even if it breaks you can replace it for way less than the cheapest g shock while having a way longer battery life. The only thing that lets it down is the subpar light.
It is an affordable, stylish iconic watch, I own two and love them but I wouldn't call it tough as nails really as it is made of pretty soft plastic and is only 3 bar water reaistant, as a result mine is really scratched and has a 1 mm hole in the case from spending the summer wrenching on my Landy. Also got a misty dial from surface swimming... So I'm considering one of the G-shock "square" models wich resamble F91 but really are tough as nails :)
I have been lucky enough to have owned a couple Rolex, Sinn, Omega, and others...but I honestly don't miss any of them as I never felt comfortable wearing watches worth that much. Always worried about scratching one. I get more joy from the dozen or so beaters I own now, of which both of these are included. Great video!
God, that Omega is something outstanding, goes perfect with that baby blue NATO! I used to have the Duro and it lasted forever, my everyday watch! Wether you're reviewing a luxury 1000$ plus watch or a 30$ beater, your videos are always amazing TGV!
TGV, just wanted to say 'thankyou!' Based on this video, first seen by me a few months ago, I bought the Duro. To date, ive enjoyed it immensely: its taken abuse (however slight) that very few of my watches could endure & still look as good as it does. But, best of all, it caught the eye of a Rolex-wearing, slightly smug guest staying at the hotel where I work--who very quickly caught himself when he realized I was wearing a 'lowly Casio.' Lol Love your videos! Thanks for helping to keep the wonderful hobby of Horology alive!!
Really appreciate how you deep dive into entry level watches that most other reviewers leave out. Have learned a lot from your videos and keep up the good job. Cheers - Kevin
IM 17 and i just ordered a f91w, I got into watches because of you thank you. Now I’m going to save up for a Casio duro it looks so nice, and the price is affordable as well.
I bought this G-Shock right around Christmas and I've barely taken it of my wrist. I even slept with it on a few times! The classic design, for me, is unbeatable. I also gifted The Duro to a friend of mine and he likes it very much. Great, affordable watches!
Merry Christmas. I’ll go weeks wearing my gshock, I’ve never made note but I’m sure theres been months in a row where I hadn’t removed it. I forget it’s even there, sleep, showers, work, it’s the essential tool watch
I have the Duro and love it. Two minor details I would love to see added in future iterations: 1.) a magnifier bubble over the date; 2.) the marlin logo laser-etched onto the face of the crown. Both are small nitpicks tho and the watch is wonderful as it is.
So, after a year Casio only made Duro worse. You didn't put the lens in the date window and you didn't pay the royalties to use the Marlin fish! Now Duro comes without the famous fish! That is. It got worse, generating many protests from Casio's most loyal consumers! Lack of consideration all in the name of money!
I think if they made the Duro in 42mm and a solar movement and charge around 100USD, they would have a beast on their hands. I have recently acquired a Green bezel/ black dial version and I love it to bits. Very solid watch...it also has the Marlin logo.
I own the casio and I love it. I had it for 3 or 4 years now and it works great. No scratches on the glass so far. Like everyone else who owns this watch, or at least most people, I to have also used different watch straps on it. The strap that comes with it is good, but I wanted a more tradition look to it so a metal band with a curved end. Highly recommend it.
The Casio Duro is one of my favorite inexpensive beaters.. fantastic choice. I own one in fact, which I believe I bought on sale/clearance for $25... It punches far above it's price.. and its kept up rather well on my sailing/fishing/diving excursions. As far as the G-shock, I myself don't own one (although I might have a very old one in a box somewhere left over from childhood) but I have always heard such fantastic things about them, and will always remember a friend of mine who was told to purchase one by his peers while serving in an Army LRS unit. Also I believe These Duro's use Mitoya Quartz Movements. Many of the Analog Casios use Miyota and Epson (Seiko) movements.
I really enjoy my DURO , have plenty of straps. I got into watches about two years ago my job required for me to be everywhere at once and needed to use my time wisely. I hated pulling out my phone 24/7 so I started with a G- shock. Now I have a small collection of casios.( marine gear, g shocks) Casio satisfies my watch needs for now, I'm a tech and work in construction sites almost everyday and these watches hold up pretty good for work or going out.
These watches have been screaming "TGV vid" for ages! Very impressed with the the Duro. Didn't think the value of the Seiko SKX could be topped, but this watch ticks all the boxes for an all-weather watch with classic looks. Final note, I believe the quartz module is a Casio rebadged Miyota 2115.
My beater is a casio AE - 1200WH. Been using it for 6-7 years without changing the battery. I always shower and swim with it and still running perfectly. Casio is the best value for the money
For the money, it's hard to beat the Duro. Fantastic "beater" watch which I was able to get for LESS than $50. Having bigger wrists, it wears much smaller, which makes it look perfect. Great video as always.
YES! I'm so glad you did this video. I've been trying to research it and I'm like DAMN why hasn't TGV done a review on the Casio duro. Best reviewer on CZcams. So thank you. Now I will watch this video and make my decision. It's funny because I wanted to put it on a nato strap to so now I know exactly how it'll look with it and it looks good. Thanks so much. New to watches and your channel is helping me immensely.
Thank you so much Abhi, very kind of you to say indeed. Welcome to the best hobby an chap can have! Glad to have you on the journey with us. Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry thank you sir. My career is just getting started this year and my watch Three grail watches as of now , are the Rolex submariner two tone, Omega seamaster 300 Spectre edition on the nato strap and the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black. I love those timepieces. But for now I want to start my collection with the Casio Duro, Seiko 5, and the Seiko SKX. All watches that are affordable to me right now. Casio and the seiko 5 will probably be first. With a Bond grey and black nato strap from Wrist candy watch club. Again. Everything I know is thanks to your channel. So I appreciate you putting out the content for us newbies. Cheers from Vegas.
Abhi K. Abhi K. My father has a subi, great watch and a true classic. Its about 15 years old and its still ticking (slow, but it just needs a good regulation)! The Bond Omega looks awesome as well. My dream grail watches are Breitling Navi 01 and IWC Mk. XVIII. Maybe a Zenith El Primero later :) or Rolex GMT master II pepsi ( ceramic, not gold, great watch but its not worth 28k!) Im hoping to get a Seiko SARB and maybe the Casio Duro. Goodluck!
Breitlings are beautiful as well. A little to complicated for me but wonderful looking timepieces. Those are some good choices. I just bought the duro yesterday since it's only 43 dollars. And got some nato straps for it as well. It's going to be my everyday beater watch. It'll have some history to it before I'm done. I just bought a business so I can't wear high end watches there as it doesn't fit the type of business I bought. So the Casio will be everyday. High end watches will be when I go out. In general I'm excited to receive it. But I need to find that Spectre watch. It was a minutes edition so it rarely pops up. I want it as a whole set with the box and papersto. So that's even more hard to find.
Congrats on the business! Thats awesome! My father started his a long time ago and is working on a new one (travel company) called All Star Travel. Entrepreneurship is very rewarding, good luck!
A fairly new watch collector here (a year and 12 watches in) but I wanted to comment to let you know that your channel has been instrumental in shaping the direction my collection is going. I appreciate your content. Keep 'em coming!
I have had the G-Shock since 2014 and I can't say enough good things about my watch. It is fabulous, I have been to beaches and hikes with it on my wrist, have also dropped it a couple of storeys down and this watch still doesn't even has a scratch. Also, it was worn by Keanu Reeves in the movie "Speed". This watch makes me feel like I am an outdoor's man.. Its funny but it does do that.. I am planning to put another strap on it now. Something made of cloth like other military watches. P.S - I too have small wrists.
There is one con about the Casio G Shock DW-5600E. Its been my beater watch for five years. I swim with it, shower with it, sleep with it etc. I have noticed that have a number of years of usage, oils and grim keep change the matte finish to a shiny black finish. Though i think this might have something to do with not cleaning the watch. After 5 + years of usage. Another pro is that i still haven't change the battery yet, contrary to the 2 years of battery life you mentioned in your video.
Unbelievable! TGV, I commented on your video a few days ago saying I wanted to send you a watch for review! The watch I was going to send was my Casio MDV106! I'm so bummed I didn't send you the email earlier. Glad you did a video on this watch, I wear mine at least twice per week. I love it. The ultimate classy beater!
Sorry about that. Love the Duro, it has been sitting on my shelf in the "to review" list for months! A classy beater indeed. Regardless thank you for the gesture, always appreciated. Best regards, TGV
My favourite beater is the Casio MDV106! Amazing watch with g-shock durability without g-shock ugliness. Comes with a solid Miyota quartz movement too :)
Wow. This takes me back. This was my first watch back in 1996 when I was in year 3 and is still with me today! I can't forget seeing this watch in Speed!
Casio have always made extremely durable beaters. I've had an MD202 "Marlin" (incidentally only rated to 100m!) for nearly 25 years and you just can't kill it. Even been scuba diving with it. Breaks my heart to replace it but I really like the look of the MDV106 so I think that's coming soon. Great vid btw!
Personally, I don't need a digital watch as I have my smartphone on me 98% of the time. But I appreciate the fact that virtually everyone has access to decent quality watches. My beater of choice is the SKX 007 wich has never failed me while hunting, diving, hiking or any other demanding activity. Great video, thank you, Sir!
I love my SKX007 so much, its my daily and wears various straps. I'm now considering a Seiko 6r15 as a dress watch. As you can see, I don't like spending much!
I try to condition myself not to use my phone 24 hours a day, it often spends hours in a drawer. The 6r15 is gorgeous! I am not a huge fan of the bracelet, but the dial and complication are stunning. Very classy and I think a great counter piece to the SKX. Thank you all for your replies!
Just when I said to myself that I would not buy another watch. Well I got inspired to revisit my local AD and just picking up my Casio 5600 E. With the discount offered I just can't simply missed this chance to own this robust watch. Thank you so much TGV for this lovely recommendation!!! This would served me for a very long time. As you said tough as nails 😎
Quartz is also great for chronographs since that complication can be costly to service in a mechanical piece. Seiko has some great mechaquartz options with a smooth sweeping chrono seconds hand. They would make a good beater as they can be had for around a hundred dollars and perform well if you want a sporty chronograph and can' afford or don't want to drop the cash on a speedy. I've got my eye on the SSB031. My go-to everyday watch is a Seiko 5 SNZG15, which has taken more than a few knocks and has some "character" on the hardlex, but it still keeps excellent time and runs like a champ. The 5 is definitely what I'd recommend if someone wanted an automatic beater.
My beater is Casio F-91w. I love how slim it is and doesn't get in the way when lifting weights and working out! If I break it or bang it up bad it's only $10 to replace!
The Casio Duro was my first real watch, but I gave it away because it far too large for me. This would actually be my first recommendation for anyone who wants to get a diver, but isn't looking for an automatic. The size and the lume are my only hang ups, otherwise I would have kept it and never bought an SKX. The bezel action is fantastic, better than my SKX or my Orient Mako.
I have a G-Shock AWGM100-1ACR for a beater watch. Small for a G-shock, solar, and atomic. Wear it, wash it in the sink, and repeat. The watch takes care of itself, and is always up for a beating. I just picked up the Duro for my Dad's birthday. He isn't into horology, but he wears a watch every day of his life. I think this will be a great daily watch for him.
I have owned the DW-5600e for about three years. I have changed the battery once and I have put the watch through it's paces. It has been my only watch for work and play. Jack-hammering, Concrete work, plumbing, water-skiing,etc etc. For the money it is an awesome hard use watch. Very satisfied. This channel is great info. Keep up the Good work TGV .
The Duro was my "gateway" watch. Fantastic. My wife and I both currently wear G-Shock 56XX as beaters. No wrong answers here. That Duro punches WAY above it's weight class.
I have a MDV-106 and love it. I put a black and yellow striped NATO on it. I have had mine about a month and it has held up well, even with me swimming a few times.
I have had the Casio 5600A Though Solar YELLOW for 8 years and it has never stopped or let me down. I get many notices of the YELLOW. I love this watch. On TGV's recommendation I bought the Casio Diver on Amazon for $48. Very nice watch. The lume IS underwhelming but it looks great and is very accurate. These two great watches are totally different. One is YELLOW and digital and the other is BLACK and analog. My watch collection is now complete.
I haven't worn a watch for maybe 15 years, but recently I found myself needing a watch for work. I looked at smart watches etc. but in the end I bought g-schock 5600, and I really enjoy it. In the process of finding a watch for work, I have developed an interest in watches I never had before, and watching your channel is very inspiring. I'm now looking into getting my next watch, getting this g-shock might have lead me to a new expensive hobby! But I love it.
My beater watch is Casio SGW-300H. I have this for 5 years now, doing construction and maintenance works. It has world time, 4 alarms, stop-watch function, altimeter, barometer and thermometer function.
Great vid TGV... The original G-Shock was the watch, I bought with my first wage packet.. I've had 3 DW variants since... So bomb proof, so dependable the tough solar even more so.
I have a GW-M5610B Tough Solar, it's basically the same watch as the DW5600E, it was the first watch i bought on Ebay. That was in 2009, it has been my daily since then, a fit and forget watch, it just functions with no drama, everything works as the day i received it. Watches costing several times more have come and gone, more high end watches just stay in their case. It has been with me through several continents, and shared good memories and bad, has shared so many cuts and scrapes (rock climbing, DIY work, accidents) that it can be considered a blood relative. All the time giving me the precise date and time, notifying me appointments by alarm and illuminating my life in dark places. When my time ends, and i close my eyes for the very last second, i will take some comfort knowing this watch will be on my wrist, still predicting precisely and showing the present.
I finally beat you to a watch. Got my dw5600 a few weeks ago as a work beater. I gotta say I love it that much I don't want to wear it to work. It's taken a beating already but not a scratch on it. Might have to get another to preserve or a 5610 solar atomic
I have both these watches, I only wish the G-shock could be put on a nato without having to add adapter links, the Duro is by far my most worn watch especially when all my automatics have run out of wind and I don't feel like setting the time, it really has everything you need and it's good looking and a true work horse. Makes me question why I buy more expensive watches when all you need truly is a duro.
I know I am late the party my good man, but because of you I took delivery today of my Sinn 104. Sublime. Pure love at first wear. We have drooled over the same watches in the past, and I felt your opinion matches mine for the most part. Your opinion of the 104 was so incredibly spot on. Bravo good sir.
A while ago I almost bought the Casio Duro after months of courtship, but ended up not pulling the trigger solely because of its size. I isually wear a small Seiko 5 and I'm not sure how a 44mm diver would look on my slim wrists. But it looks great on you, I might think again! My thirst for a diver is not quenched. Great review!
Thanks, looks great! Is it a smaller versione of the SKX007? I don't need it to actually dive, just like the looks. Too bad it's not in my price range, I'm considering the Vostok Amphibia, looks quirky but fun. Alternatively an Invicta, which I know gets some hate but it's very affordable.
Love your videos! Thanks for including beater watches as thats what I wear due to working in a rough occupation. That nato strap looks great on the diver by the way!
I'm buying this one tomorrow. The DW 5600 E. It costs ₹4,300, here in India... I don't know how I loved this watch. Never though I would buy this model... Superb excellent watch for the price... Simply beautiful....
Just got the blue Duro and it is fantastic! looks amazing. the resin straps feel cheap because they are and should be replaced to your style. Even if you don't change it, still looks good. I also love the g-shock. might get the dw-5600e, if I want another beater for workouts. Thinking about getting the gold black Duro and some different bands for great combinations. I didn't want to get the black because there are too many rolex black submariners out there and I have few black watches. The blue duro is a great purchase, I kept admiring the watch all day. Price is great so I wouldn't feel horrible about scratches, although I would still feel bad because the watch looks so good.
I love my Duro on a Bond strap. For work, it is either that or the Vostok "scuba dude" with the 1967 case and a grey NATO (soon to be replaced with a shark mesh bracelet).
Fantastic review, I love your videos and your presentation. The attention to detail and care you put into each video has made me a subscriber to your channel and a loyal fan. I have the G Shock you reviewed and I wear it almost every day, in fact, it has become one of my favorite watches to wear. I also am getting a Duro based on your recommendation. Keep up the good work!
Being a child of the 80's, I couldn't resist the Classic G-Shock. I've watched this video several times and I so appreciate your full compliment of comments for such inexpensive watches. Casio should pay you for your knowledge and ability, although I believe that you tell the truth.
Marco, I don't see the problem there. If the cost for servicing them is same as the cost of a new watch, then that means you have the option of purchasing a brand new watch. It'll have all the new parts without any wear or damage, and you'll get all the new upgrades in the movement and function since the last time you bought it. Then save the old watch for spare parts in case you damage the new beater watch too badly.
I have an Seiko Orange Monster that I loved and wore daily. Beat it up everyday until the cat batted it off a TV tray and it hit the floor just right and took it out. Now it needs adjusted and will run then get stuck then after a gentle slap take off again.
I’m a 3 Duro guy! Black, Black & Gold and Blue. Natos on all. Lots of looks with an array of Natos. I’d like a green dial model. Also am a DW5600 owner and love it, as well. I guess I’m a beater-only enthusiast. I have about 15 watches, these Casios, a few Seiko Recrafts, a few Citizens. I have never paid over $75 for a watch and don’t imagine I ever will.
Both such awesome watches. I love my MDV 106, ton of watch for the money. I had one of the original GSHOCK back in the day. I may need to pick up another one! Great as always.
Thank you Aron, well said on the Duro, as for the G-shock, I bet that would be worth serious dosh thee days. I just uploaded my last G-shock as we speak ;-) Best regards, TGV
My beater watch is a Casio AE1200WH, the 'Casio Royale'. Metal bracelet, 25 bucks, 5 time zones, 100m water resistant and a 10 year battery. And it looks great!
A little over two years ago my uncle got me a Casio Illuminator AE2000W for Christmas and I was a little disappointed, I didn't appreciate watches as much. But that has honestly been one of the best gifts. I wore it all those two years as my beater and it's still ticking like a champ. I replaced it with a G-Shock recently, but it's still around, sometimes I wear it to sleep for its easy reading. Great video as always!
That very G-Shock was the same one that my dad wore for many years as his work watch. He was a handyman/plumber, and I can tell you first hand that the watch can take a beating like no other. Truly the most durable watch I have ever come across. The video alone brought back so many memories of my dad that I am highly entertaining buying one. And the Duro has been on my watch list on Amazon several times over. I think I know where at least $100 of my tax returns are going. Great video TGV!
My beater watch is a $30 Casio AE-1200WHD-1A. It's a very simple watch in the sense that it's just a timer chip slapped onto an LCD display and a battery, and for such a cheap, simple setup you get great accuracy and tons of features in a cool techy retro case that is 100M water resistant. And because it's cheap, you don't get hurt a lot if you bang it on your desk, and scratches on the acrylic crystal can easily be rubbed off with gel toothpaste and a nice cotton cloth. It often goes where my other watches don't, even my G-Shock! 😁
Love your down-to-Earth reviews, TGV! How quiet is that Duro? I recently picked up a Timex Expedition on a whim and the ticking is driving me batty! I've recently become infatuated with the Bulova UHF quartz movement and would love to get your take on them if the opportunity arises. Keep up the good work!
now that I am a learned repairer of watches, and a better gentleman (thanks to these videos), I take better care of my beater watches and I have polished off the crystal scratches and scuff marks, replaced the bands and now they look quite outstanding....
I own the casio DW5600 - E and was gladly surprised to find so much praise for it in here. I also have the solar version of it and have my dearest old, back from school and highschol DW 310 HD (not G-Shock but, hey, talking about strong durable watches!). G-Shocks, back some many years ago, were the watches we as kids wanted to have. Couldn't afford one and got my, por man's equivalent, 30Bar resistant DW-310 that's still with me. But as the strap broke, the battery died for the n'th time and always wanted the G-Shock, got myself three of them. And yes, the DW5600 is the strongest (and space qualified) watch. Now I'm going back to horology and am very glad to have found this channel that kind of makes me fall in love back again with all this classics. And yes, I got my DW310 back working, although because the lugs are broken had to glue the strap to it meanwhile I figure out another solution. Great watches that speak by themselves. Only wish I hadn't so much trouble seing the numbers in the screen as now I need glasses. But thanks a lot for talking about this great time pieces.
Agreed! Beater watches are important. I just bought a Casio MRW-200H just for this purpose. It's a cheap watch and is 100M water resistant. With my two automatic watches I'm afraid to get it wet so it can only be used in formal occasions or at the office.
Hi TGV, Discovered your channel recently and have to say well done in the great content. Have owned the DW5600E and it is a great watch. The only downside I have found is the strap is terrible and I have had to replace it twice. Can you add a NATO strap to it without strap adaptors? Todd
I bought both of these from Walmart. The Duro has a Pepsi bezel and cost $49.92 USD. The G Shock cost $40.00 USD. Both are well worth it! The Duro strap is identical to one of my other G Shock squares so I know it will hold up. To have these two quality time pieces for under a hundred bucks is a steal! This video does a great job of explaining both. I'm glad my enthusiasm is shared!
The respect and care he shows for beater watches under $50 is very honorable. I like this guy.
Makes you want too buy one righ!?!! He did his job. That makes him money
He loves all watches and doesn't shy away from reviewing a broad range. That's why we love this guy
@@paulrobinson3534 no it doesnt he doesnt make any money regarding the sales of a watch he reviewed
he is talking about watches not moral platitudes 😂 you meat rider
The Casio Duro punches way, way above its weight. Absolutely incredible watch,
My neighbor found a bandless Casio duro marlin at an abandoned home demolition.
I'm laughing I own both, as a fire fighter I have been know to destroy a nice watch. Both of these have stood up to my daily life. LOVE them both!
Get a Casio G-Shock Mudmaster
@Xavier Roberts not the full metal g shocks 🙂
Does they widstand the use of "lightwater" if so theymust be very tough.
Appreciate you risking your life to save others home skilly, hope your still doing well after these 4 years
Hey bro get a gw9400
I just looked at my entire collection...and unfortunately everyone of them are under $50 beater watches?! :'(
Dale Christensen nothing wrong with that
Dale Christensen me too
Dale Christensen Same here.
Lots of AMAZING, CLASSIC, and CLASSY Seikos under $100 if your looking to expand on a budget.
TGV one of the few watch lovers who doesn't bash on Casio a great brand in my opinion sooo much respect man I will keep watching your videos as long as you make them keep up the great stuff!
Casio gets bashed by watch enthusiastics?... Pretty sure the opposite is true.
Every watch enthusiast respects Casio for their history of innovation and bringing some of the most legendary watches of all time
@@nafeeahnaf6296 1984 I was in the Army and just about everybody's first watch was a predecessor to the f91 thats history.
Who would bash casio?
@@MonMon-vy8cb Fashion watches lovers
I have the DW5600 as my beater and I absolutely love it. Never thought I'd ever get a G-Shock, but it's just perfect for working out, doing yard work, washing the car. Probably the best $45 I've ever spent.
So glad you have one too, enjoy it!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I also never thought I'd ever get a G-Shock and now it's the watch I use most often.
I never thought I would own a GShock, I now own three of them and tend to pick them over my other watches.
They are just easy to use and comfortable.
I am also thinking of adding a Casio edifice to my collection, I just find them to be an interesting and well made watch.
The only downside is the battery life of 2 years.....therefore the GW-5610 with endless solar power is the better alternative
Hello Tgv i am 16 years old and i must say that i love your channel i just bought my first ever "real watch" its an automatic sieko and i love it i truely get the passion for watches and just wanted to thank you
Which Seiko?
mazal tov! it's quite rare to see kids you're age get into watches. Although a bar mitzvah is usually a good push
rosenfeld8 I am 14 and half year ago i bought my first automatic watch too! it was seiko 5 snk 807 i love it! i love watches i like to have something beautifull on my hand ;)
@@nynomk8522 I'm fifteen and I recently bought a seiko prospex padi samurai SRPB99K1 automatic and i love it, ya gotta love a classic divers watch
Robin Rundqvist oh i bought my first diver watch today ;) it was vintage vostok amfibia barrel type :)
Dustin Edmiston I have a Fossil sport watch on a rubber strap that has 100m water resitance and is tough as old boots. Fossil watches are great.
@ Dustin: Thats something that TGV does constantly-- shares his class with the rest of us. Its precisely why I originally subscribed! 😎
Wait a minute, are you telling me you are a watch enthusiast and never heard about Casio collection?? Ok, tell me more, I am listening. This is really interesting
What I really love about this watch is the fact that the seconds dial hits the indicies perfectly!
Yesss,i have seen way more expensive watches that don't have that level of precision.Really good detail work for a low cost
@@brantisonfireI picked up a citizen eco drive dive watch on Amazon for about $170 and I must say for the price, it is a very nice watch.
my beater is a casio f91w. tough as nails, lightweight, and a cool throwback style.
Outstanding choice!!!! Love mine,
Enjoy it my feeing,
Best regards,
TGV
i actually had a blue collar lumberyard job over the summer and wore that watch every day. it worked great, and I actually was popular on the job-site because I could quickly tell the time and nobody else had a watch on!
yeah, people seem to underestimate just how much of a beating even an f91w can take. It's the ak47 of watches, it's tough as nails with plenty of functionality. but even if it breaks you can replace it for way less than the cheapest g shock while having a way longer battery life. The only thing that lets it down is the subpar light.
Be N S O N Yep, I love mine but the light lets it down.
I've had a casio duro for about 2 years now and I love it! I've used it as a beater and it's still in great shape. The battery life is amazing aswell.
Thank you so much Nuno :D

My entire watch collection could be deemed as 'beater' watches...
TGV, just wanted to say 'thankyou!' Based on this video, first seen by me a few months ago, I bought the Duro. To date, ive enjoyed it immensely: its taken abuse (however slight) that very few of my watches could endure & still look as good as it does. But, best of all, it caught the eye of a Rolex-wearing, slightly smug guest staying at the hotel where I work--who very quickly caught himself when he realized I was wearing a 'lowly Casio.' Lol
Love your videos!
Love my Timex Ironman for work! Not everyone has an office job, after all..
Love Timex!!
Thank you Taylor, enjoy the Ironman,
Best regards,
TGV
Taylor Weldon I'd be bored to tears if I had one!😎
Yikes the g-shock looks like a Patek compared to the Timex. :D
Perfect brand for a "box" ticking collection without breaking the bank.
Taylor Weldon I ran over an Ironman once and it didn't even scratch it. Solid as a rock.
The Casio Duro it's a beautiful and humble watch at the same time. Thanks for your videos you send happiness, joy, good vibes, values and much more...
Man I was thinking about a SKX for my beater, but I think you've just convinced me to go cheaper!
TIMExBANDIT sort a skx too, you won’t be sorry! I have the skx011 and it’s finished so nice I almost don’t want to use it as a beater!
Two minor details I would love to see added in future iterations:
1.) a magnifier bubble over the date;
2.) the marlin logo laser-etched onto the face of the crown.
I love how you respect low price watches the same as expesive ones! Love the gloves!
You can't beat having a G-Shock in the collection!!! It's a must for any Budding Collector!! Bravo! BMJ ENGLAND
I have two automatic citizen watches that I bought almost 20 years ago, they still working perfectly! I love them
Love my G-Shock. This model but with solar power. Took it to Thailand. Dings, water, dirt, grime. Thing is a tank.
That gshock reminds me of a buffed up f-91w
It practically is that.
For the money, it's hard to beat the Duro. Fantastic "beater" watch which I was able to get for LESS than $50. Having bigger wrists, it wears much smaller, which makes it look perfect. Great video as always.
Thank you, always happy to hear from a content owner of this cracking watch.
Best regards,
TGV

TGV
P.S - I too have small wrists.
what about mud?
@@chickenballs-balls I think the 5600 resists mud, as every G Shock should, to a certain extent. But the G9300 Mudman is specially designed for that
I just bought the Casio Duro. I can't wait for it to come!
Best regards,
TGV
My favourite beater is the Casio MDV106! Amazing watch with g-shock durability without g-shock ugliness. Comes with a solid Miyota quartz movement too :)
fender132435 it's tough but it's not G Shock tough. Not quite..
Wow. This takes me back. This was my first watch back in 1996 when I was in year 3 and is still with me today! I can't forget seeing this watch in Speed!
To clarify, I'm talking about the DW-5600E :-)
Casio have always made extremely durable beaters. I've had an MD202 "Marlin" (incidentally only rated to 100m!) for nearly 25 years and you just can't kill it. Even been scuba diving with it. Breaks my heart to replace it but I really like the look of the MDV106 so I think that's coming soon. Great vid btw!
The only reason I subscribed to this channel is how passionate you are about watches. I could watch hours of your videos and I would love it.
You can't beat the SKX!!
Great choice, personally I wish I didn't have a "smart" phone.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry I sooooooo agree.... I think about flinging my smartphone off a bridge about 5 times a day
I love my SKX007 so much, its my daily and wears various straps.
Thank you BL. Great to hear you recommend it too.
Best regards,
TGV
What size wrist are you? Im considering this watch but my wrist size is 6 inches and a half. I'm worried it might be to big for me.
Bernardo Gutierrez You should be fine :) I have a 6,5 inch wrist and own a 44mm watch which is just right.
Niels De Block it will be my next purchase then thanks for the heads up!
John Candy wore a cheap Casio in Planes, Trains and Automobiles... good enough for me lol
Keep up the Good work TGV .
bought the Casio Duro for $38 on Amazon a couple months ago, glad to see this review, thank you! 🤘😀🍺
Thank you Kenneth,
I bet it looks killer on the black and yellow nato!!!
Enjoy it,

I have had the Casio 5600A Though Solar YELLOW for 8 years and it has never stopped or let me down. I get many notices of the YELLOW. I love this watch. On TGV's recommendation I bought the Casio Diver on Amazon for $48. Very nice watch. The lume IS underwhelming but it looks great and is very accurate. These two great watches are totally different. One is YELLOW and digital and the other is BLACK and analog. My watch collection is now complete.
Great video. Casio is the ultimate watchmaker for "beater" watches.:)
Finally happy seeing you cover the MDV-106!
I've been pondering for a while weather to get it or not.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,
Best regards,

That makes my day to hear that!
Enjoy it my friend.
Thank you for taking the time to share that, greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
I own both watches and can concur. Excellent everyday watches, reliable, look good and incredibly good value for money.
Ouroboros, check out the Seiko SKX013 - it's around 38 mm in width, and an ISO certified diver. Tough!
In the end I ordered a Vostok Amphibia 710 with blue scuba dude dial. Looks like a good deal for less than 60€. Can't wait!
mu beater watch G-Shock G-8900SH. have it for 2 years. love it can take any kind of beating i give it. absolutely worth
🤔 my picks:
1.- Casio Duro
2.- Casio Royale
Same, and I don't know which to Buy helppp

Loved my Casio Marlin/Duro. A little too big for my taste. Gave it to a buddy who loves it too.
Being a child of the 80's, I couldn't resist the Classic G-Shock. I've watched this video several times and I so appreciate your full compliment of comments for such inexpensive watches. Casio should pay you for your knowledge and ability, although I believe that you tell the truth.
My beaters are the seiko skx009 and the orient mako. HARD AS NAILS
Indeed!!! Excellent choices Daniel,
Best regards,
TGV
Marco, I don't see the problem there. If the cost for servicing them is same as the cost of a new watch, then that means you have the option of purchasing a brand new watch. It'll have all the new parts without any wear or damage, and you'll get all the new upgrades in the movement and function since the last time you bought it. Then save the old watch for spare parts in case you damage the new beater watch too badly.
What JP did this week absolutely spot on!
My main watch is a seiko skx007
Just remember Bill Gates wears a Duro !
@@folksurvival: jealous? ;)

I have a duro and have used it on several scuba dives and dozens of free dives. Still works perfectly
I just uploaded my last G-shock as we speak ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
My beater watch is a Casio AE1200WH, the 'Casio Royale'. Metal bracelet, 25 bucks, 5 time zones, 100m water resistant and a 10 year battery. And it looks great!
For those that want a different band option, the g-shock DW-5600 BBN comes on a nylon strap.
Fantastic, thank you for adding that.
Best regards,
TGV
You can also buy adapters and use 22mm nato/zulu.
One negative of the G-Shock is that when the strap breaks, and they do, it is not easy or not worth it to replace it.

Nah, they are very cheap and widely available.
Great video TGV!
i have the gshock gw5000 and I love it.
James W It's very quiet
now that I am a learned repairer of watches, and a better gentleman (thanks to these videos), I take better care of my beater watches and I have polished off the crystal scratches and scuff marks, replaced the bands and now they look quite outstanding....
Great Video! At sub 50usd mark you can't beat casio
Thank you Vitor, Casio are amazing, they rule at this price range.
Best regards,

Nice Video. Please don't forget the tracktor of all beater "amphibia" CCCP watches :)
Agreed! Beater watches are important. I just bought a Casio MRW-200H just for this purpose. It's a cheap watch and is 100M water resistant. With my two automatic watches I'm afraid to get it wet so it can only be used in formal occasions or at the office.
Hi TGV,
Discovered your channel recently and have to say well done in the great content.
