  • Despite a terrifying zombie outbreak that occurred during the filming of this episode, the Gentry must go on!
Today I work my way through the madness of the outside world to share 5 reasons why the Casio G-Shock DW5600 series is not only the toughest affordable watch to buy, but also a historically significant and essential timepiece that everyone should consider owning.
Regardless of your watch-wearing needs (yard work, embarking on a perilous adventure, or fighting off ravaging hordes of the undead) this no-nonsense watch should be at the very top of your mind.

When I was on deployment in the Navy, I had lost my cheap Timex watch and needed something else. My ship stopped in Guantanamo Bay in 2012 and I had the opportunity to go to the base store and look for a watch. There I found a Casio DW-5600W, the blacked-out reverse screen version, and bought it right away. This was long before I knew anything about watches, long before I discovered your channel, long before I had any fine watches of any kind or even a collection. I've been using the 5600W ever since. It will always be the original watch in my collection, the first one I ever got. It's endlessly reliable, completely indestructible, and it's been with me on deployments and skirmishes literally all over the world. Thanks for giving this watch its due exaltation, TGV.

When I was a kid and I went to visit family in Bangladesh, my uncle who used to be in the military over there, was adamant that I should wear a watch. He loved casio watches and introduced me to them. I wanted the 5600, but my wrists were too small. So I got the closest looking model that fit, the f-91.
I was young and careless so I ended up losing it. This became somewhat of a ritual because we did the same thing each time I went for a visit.
The last time we went watch shopping was 12 years ago, sadly he's no longer alive. My wrists have gotten bigger and I finally own a 5610. I love wearing this watch, it's badass and it reminds me of him. Rest in peace Kalou.

I brought my DW5600 with the 901 module in 1989 whilst on holiday in Florida. It was $90 I think. I wore it every day as a mechanic and car bodywork specialist. It's been run over by numerous vehicles, lost in the garden for a year, submerged in oil and acids. I've even used it as my dive watch and had it on my wrist for years in all weathers travelling into London by motorbike. I made a video of me throwing it higher than my house and chucking it full bore at a pebble dashed brick wall! That was to prove a point and put my money where my mouth is. Got a fair bit of verbal for that one lol I only replaced the 'original' battery in 2013. So that is 24 years on it's first battery. It is now up to year 7 on it's second battery! Honestly I'm now a watchmaker specialising in vintage watch restoration and preservation and I still wear my DW5600 a lot of the time. With me until the day I die! and beyond!! If you want a watch that you can trust your life with get a G-Shock.

It’s so useful because of the atomic clock feature you mention in this vid. It’s such a great way to check the time of my mechanical watches without messing around getting my phone. It’s a great base to set my other watches in the watch box. I wanted something to wear mowing the lawn or taking stuff to the tip etc. Didn’t know why I suddenly decided a G-Shock should my beater, I’m guessing this.

Traveled across continents with me and I won't be anywhere without it. Everyone should own one!

I wore a Casio G-Shock Tough Solar Atomic MTG-910DA (2638) black steel case and bracelet for the last nine years taking it on many deployments with the U.S. Army to Iraq and Kuwait and the only reason I looked for a new one was a new found love for automatics/mechanicals. Particularly the Hamilton khaki field automatic 38mm. Just a beautiful watch. I bought two of the Hamiltons, one with the steel bracelet and the other with the leather strap. Incredibly they are keeping +1 second a day time over a few weeks now.
I’m a grunt and I still have five years left in the Kentucky Army National Guard so I will still always use my G-Shock as my actual field watch until it dies on me but I don’t see that happening in the near future. If you’re looking for a watch that will take a hell of a beating in all kinds of weather conditions then I can’t say enough about that particular G-Shock. Still going strong without any kind of service or battery change.
I love watching your videos and the intro to this video was fantastic. Best one I’ve seen yet. Very funny. Keep up the good work! Go forth and do great things Sir.

These americans and such have no idea... too cheap lucky prices. I'm happy. Only 87€ is a good price for DW5600BB-1ER. It's the basic classic rugged+tough G-Shock, with a NEGATIVE/REVERSE Display :)! Great video. I just brought a g5600 ue model (Tough Solar Edition) from the Amazon India website after my galaxy watch 3 stopped working a couple of days ago. So much for the 'smart watch' features and durability. I was secretly glad that it stopped working. The need to charge it wireless every day and the up-keep of myriad notifications took a significant toll on me. 5600 rugged models are reminiscent of every 90s kid's dream of owning a digital Casio. After watching this video, I'm so glad that I brought this with one-fifth the price of my previous watch.
