You two guys are becoming legends in England ,carry on guys
And Scotland 🏴
Huh...
@@lewiswclark Didn't know they'd reacted to The Proclaimers.
@@lewiswclark My old man was from Scotland. Unfortunately never met the guy, but apparently he was the funniest man alive with the warmest heart.
And Germany
Love this band!!!! Tim Burgess is a stand up guy and really generous. He’d heard that I won a medal in the Paralympic so he got in touch and gave me tickets for the Liverpool gig! Top man top band! Listen to “ONE TO ANOTHER” great choooooonnne! 👍🏼
Sister and brooother.. tune
Yep he is a philanthropist
During the corinavirus pandemic he been a top bloke, helping keep people's spirits up, supporting people, his behaviour has been the exact way a rock star should respond to it
@@krisinsaigon yeah watching parties are great.
PRIMAL SCREAM! You will not be disappointed. Also excellent live.....................
With you on that one, Screamadelica is just fantastic and have to say, I've been really enjoying the "original" version of "Give out but don't give up" that they recorded in Memphis (I think)
Yeah, dixie narco etc. Bobby rocks.
"We want to be free, to do what we want to do."
@@stewrmo And we want to get loaded, and have a good time!
@@karmannghiaman1041 Riot city blues is an amazing album that Listen to regularly, Evil heat is top too!
Vapour trail by ride is another great song from that period.
Love Spreads - Stone Roses pls
This is a MUST! 🍋
A classic.
My favourite SR track
The Charlatans are from my hometown great underated band.
Chemical Brothers Setting Sun Noel Gallagher voice and writing
Or Let Forever Be (which I think is the better of the two)
Both great tunes
North Country Boy is one of their greatest tracks.
Tellin stories guys. the charlatans are class seen them loads of times never dissapoint . beautiful friend is another tune these 2 songs and the 1 you have just reacted to are up there with any songs from that time lovin it guys ✌🏴🎼
Am so glad you've discovered the charlatans, my beautiful friend is up there with there best got to listen to that one
Sproston Green and Patrol by the Charlatans are worth a go. So glad you have discovered them. The track Altogether Now by the Farm and the track Weekender by the band Flowered Up (12" version") are also brilliant and really upbeat. Also almost anything by the Brit band James.
one to another is worth a listen , by the charlatans
Live from The White Room 96
Singer Tim Burgess was a hero during covid lockdown by hosting his nightly twitter listening parties. Each night at a certain time everyone would listen to a selected classic album and comment about what it means to them on twitter with a band member or two from the featured band adding some inside details about the songs and recordings. He even got Paul McCartney to join in to do his latest album.
Yeah he deserves great respect for that, top bloke
Funny enough, I joined one of his listening parties before even listening to The Charlatans.
Primal scream “rocks” would be a good place to start if you want to go down that rabbit hole
Ash - ‘Girl from Mars’ is a bonafide British indie / Brit-pop classic you guys should cover! Their is a lyric video which should be OK to use.
They are another Madchester band, so acid house influence in their early stuff. This is a classic and gets a play at every indie night I've ever been to. Try The Bluetones - If
If - what an absolute belter of a tune!
One to Another is also awesome
You lads should check out Supergrass - a couple of their best songs imo were "Moving" and "Caught By the Fuzz"
The Libertines Don’t look back in to the Sun
I prefer Can't Stand Me Now, but both excellent!!?? Kx
i was obsessed with this song when it came out in 1990 i believe i was 18 yrs old full of hope and wonder and lsd lol 3 kids and divorce later im full of debt and regret and bad knees from dancing for 3 days straight every weekend loved the nineties man
🤪 😆
They can never take the memories though....well alzheimers can but thats not here nor there. The important thing is it was fun
Ditto
Wish I'd read above comment before posting - Doh!!!!!
Check out 'This is how it feels' by The Inspiral Carpets another Manchester band, who Noel Gallagher was a roadie before forming Oasis.
Another 90's band you may want to check out is Supergrass with songs Caught by The Fuzz , pumping on your stereo ,Richard III(3RD)
Their best song is Just When You're Thinking Things Over, followed by Can't Get Out Of Bed.
Just When...has a stunning groove.
This is from their debut "some friendly" released in 1990, there is not a weak track on that album it's wonderful...nice one..👍😁
Unless you bought the vinyl version and it wasn't on it. No idea what PR genius came up with that idea.
@@kypdur4746 Yeah I have the vinyl with the white plastic sleeve bought on the day it was released and this track isn't on it
100% true statement, flower, white shirt, you’re not very well etc all fantastic songs, this masterpiece of an album finishes with sproston green, which to this day the charlatans finish every live set with
This was their first release on a major label, great track, if a little dated sounding. A band with a back catalogue bigger than oasis.
There she goes by the Las. Just a perfect tune.
Manic Street Preachers - Motorcycle Emptiness pls :)
Most underrated band of the 90’s.. they were under the radar but had some great tunes
They weren't underrated in the mid 90s - I was constantly hearing the media rave about them and how they were better than Oasis and Blur!
They didn't hit the mainstream consciousness like Oasis, Blur, Pulp and Suede though or the Verve and the Manic Street Preachers later on.
The Charlatans were just always there as one of those bands that if you were into Britpop you were EXPECTED to like {Personally I found them OK but nothing special}.
Under whose radar? They were super well-known and respected in their heyday...
@@franohmsford7548 They weren't underrated or low key, they are bang average - cheshire band.
Stop it. Why on every post does someone say bands that have sold millions of records are underrated. It’s nonsensical
@@personalcheeses8073 I think because people mistake "Forgotten" for "Underrated".
You can't say that The Charlatans have stood the test of time like Blur or Oasis or The Stone Roses yet back in the mid 90s they were up there with those three bands and Suede, The Manics, Radiohead, Cast, Space, Sleeper, Elastica - I could go on and on!
Personally I'd say that Cast and Sleeper are the real Underrated Bands of the group as even in the 90s they didn't get the respect they deserved.
But Cast had 7 UK Top 10s whilst The Charlatans only had 4!
It's not all about the Charts - Indie Fans in the UK eulogised The Charlatans whilst they were like "Cast are OK"!
Shed seven - bully boy
Shed Seven - Chasing Rainbows
Shed Seven - Going For Gold
Shed Seven - Getting Better
Shed Seven - On Standby
Shed Seven - Bully Boy
She Left Me On friday
Bully boy
Saw shed seven live and they were brilliant, great list there 👍✌️🍻
Definitely, in fact any single they released !
Chasing rainbows is the best by far for me. What a song
Shed 7 suck
North Country Boy gotta be next by these, excellent band!
This came out in 1990 I believe and blew me away, probably the band that got me into indie, I'd rate them equally with the Stone Roses
I had the great fortune of seeing them on their first US tour for Some Friendly in Phoenix ... They absolutely tore it up!!! Saw them a few years later in Albuquerque when Between 10th and 11th came out ... Amazing!
Another good one by this band is “Just when you’re thinking things over”.
Other songs by other bands, I’d say:
Stone Roses - Fools Gold (do the short version for CZcams).
Flowered Up - It’s on
Flowered Up - Take it
Northside - Take Five
Seahorses - Love is the Law
Mock Turtles - Can you Dig it?
The Soup Dragons - I’m Free
Blur - There’s no other way
Candy Flip - Strawberry Fields Forever (cover version)
The Bluetones - Slight Return
Brilliant suggestions there my friend 👍if these guys did your list in one sitting I for one would be made up✌️🍻
I was with you until Candy Flip. Really? It's a fucking dreadful cover version.
@@MitchelGant I like it!
Blur Ong Ong and Go Out live on Jools Holland
@Mitchelgant have to agree about candy flip now. Although for some reason I loved it then.
The charlatans are brilliant this is 90 they rocked more mid 90s the Hammond organ is a staple in all there songs.they are one of the best live bands in the world. React to one to another or how high there bangers.
Looks like you guys are into alot of the 90s British Indie stuff. You should check out Kula Shaker (Hush, Govinda, Hey Dude, Great Hosanna). Their music really varies as you go through each album.
That drum beat was the sound of the era…89-93..Lest we forget Rob Collins🙏Jon Brooks🙏💚
A top tune! To see The Charlatans in all their glory try a live version of their closer "Sproston Green". 👍 You can thank me later.
Or one to another
You beat me to it. A track that never gets old...
Tune.
Sproston Green my favourite
Awesome song 👍
i think you will really enjoy Slight Return by the Bluetones
Charlatans amazing live show and BEST live finale ever with Sprosten Green. CHECK ‘em!
What about Ride “Leave Them All Behind”
The Charlatans are great live. They've got around 14 albums worth of stuff for you to go at including I think 3 live albums.. The first few albums are the best but there's still some belters from the rest as well.
Embrace- ashes
Shed 7- disco down
Courteners- not 19 forever
Stereophonics- just looking
The enemy- had enough
Editors- smokers outside the hospital doors
Was going to comment recommending The Enemy. Nice list Dean.
Awesome selections Dean
Cheers loads more I could so many quality tracks and bands between 90’s and mid to late 00’s
Tim burgess is a legend , still making music . Their album polar bear was brilliant
Please listen to One to another is a great tune!!!!! That cafe on front of that album which is not from this song is in Northwich I’ve walked past it as my mate lived there!! Seen them live about 5 times
Class band, mega underrated
One of their best tracks, a classic from the time. Really interesting again. Thanks.
Check out:
Dakota - Stereophonics
Lighting Bolt - Jake Bugg
What Have You Done - Gerry Cinnamon
Where Did All The Love Go - Kasabian
Fireside - Arctic Monkeys
It seems no one has picked up the direct lift from The Byrds - Everybody's been burned before. A wonderful David Crosby song.
Seen them live 3 times, great on every occasion
Brings to mind The Soup Dragons "I'm Free"
...which is a Stones cover. 👍
Which is not a patch on the previous album.
You placed this song into context very well. It was released in the aftermath of Stone Roses and Happy Mondays becoming big in 89/90. Some might disagree but I don't think they're a particularly good live band. Check out their single "Weirdo", which has the same funky feel but with slightly heavier guitars.
Hit and Miss live. Mostly due to Tims voice coming and going. Have seem them numerous times, first live gig I went to was 92 at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and have been a favourite ever since. The music has evolved.
Seen them a few times always been bang on to me. Infact one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen
Who do you consider a good live band?
@@jamespatrick4654 It's all a matter of personal taste, James. I didn't particularly enjoy their live performances that I've seen because Tim Burgess' vocals are really weak.
So much more than a song. Part of the Manchester scene in the early 90's when the world rave scene (EDM which only took off in the US 25+ years later) centred around Manchester whilst they also produced the best Indie (Independent) bands in the UK. I was in my late teens in Manchester at the time and felt like I lived in the centre of the world. No doubt there was a 4/5 year period from 1989 - 1994 when Manchester ruled the world in music.
The Hacienda was the most famous club in the world. I remember people from everywhere asking for directions when I was on nights out. Take a look at this czcams.com/video/jseOXteMEFI/video.html from 1989 when the scene was exploding.
For a real lesson watch czcams.com/video/Th5AObhdJfs/video.html US reaction to Manchester's music scene in 1990.
You pretty much have to follow the organ over to 'Inspiral Carpets - This is how it feels' now, to complete the whole Noel G circle. InspiralCarpets - This is how it feels, Saturn Five or She Comes in The Fall.
Sea horses, charlatans, shed seven and so many more to mention that are not heard except by old fans. Whatever you choose guys we'll listen on in✌️🇬🇧✌️🇺🇸👍🍻🍻
Awesome song, great reaction from UK ✌🏼🇬🇧
I’ve got a tune you must review ‘Low Fidelity All Stars’ the track is ‘Battleflag’
I discovered you guys last night and I think I've watched everything on your video list 😂 keep on coming with the cool reviews 😎
I love how constructive the pair of you are with your reactions. It’s never just ‘I like it,’ there’s always an explanation as to why. Good blokes to listen to music with👍
The riff is basically Hush by Deep Purple. I've loved The Charlatans since those real "indie" days. Used to spin Tellin Stories (great album) in between playing Oasis. They had a standalone single not so long ago called Totally Eclipsing that rocked in a Paperback Writer kind of way. Or try their first single "Indian Rope" or fan favourite "Sproston Green"
They lost their signature sound (sixties Hammond organ) when their keyboardist was tragically killed in a car crash in 1996.
From Wiki;
Collins' death occurred some three weeks before The Charlatans' biggest concert to date-supporting Oasis at Knebworth. Oasis's lead singer Liam Gallagher said "live forever, mate" as a dedication to Collins and introduction to their song "Cast No Shadow".
Kasabian Fast Fuse live in Leicester King Power Stadium
I'm surprised you boys haven't done any Inspiral Carpets. Noel was a roadie for them. Top band.
A great band that don't seem to get any credit.
Saturn 5
U2 know the Uk music scene from that era, more than I do and I've lived here since 1967
Went to see Happy Mondays and James last Wednesday, then Charlatans this Saturday night in Manchester, then Ocean Colour Scene on the 23rd. I bought most of the tickets pre covid and they all got rescheduled within a few weeks of each other. I'm 46 on the 21st and still love going to see my favourite bands. Only death will stop me. Peace and respect lads from Burnley, Lancashire. ✌👌❤
This was released in 1990.
They come from my home city, Manchester. Their Genres were, Alternative Rock, Madchester, Indie Rock, Brit Pop.
Madchester was a music and cultural scene. There was 36 bands all from Manchester that came out late 1980’s early 90’s that took over the music scene in the U.K.
If you Google Madchester bands you will see list of the bands. You should check some of them out.
They are from the Northwich area, not Manchester.
The line-up at this point were actually mostly from the West Midlands, only Tim being born in Salford. Jon Brookes, Rob Collins, Martin Blunt and Jon Baker (original guitarist) are/were all from the Midlands.
What a band. This was released in 1990, so you're on the money with your 80s/90s timing.
Try One to Another, from 1997.
As to whether you should see them live, definitely. I've seen them 11 times over the years.
You guys done Kasabian’s ‘Underdog’ yet? You HAVE to do the studio version though. Easily their best song
The charlatans are another band that had unbelievable b-sides in the 90's. Check out your skies are mine
These guys have loads of top tunes guys. Worth a deeper look when you get time.
The Smiths There Is A Light That Never Goes Out...you're welcome
Absolutely belting tune tbf though
Toothache, One to Another, and Forever would be good Charlatan tracks to react to.
Not forgetting Just When You're Thinking Things Over
I LOVE this because it reminds me of my beloved home city of Manchester and thats where the Charlatans are from ... Mancunian and proud! ❤😂
One to another and north country boy are the 2 best songs by this band.... The Scottish group Jesus and Mary chain are a group worth checking out. The album Automatic one of their best. Primal Scream (also Scottish) have a variety of sounds but their rock mode really does rock.
Kula Shaker were a band touted as a new Oasis in the 90s and definitely worth visiting.
Great reactions guys, nice one for
maintaining musically open minds.
Just when your thinking things over. Tune
Would love to see you react to:
1) The Style Council - “walls come tumbling down”. (I could see you guys appreciating the musical talent and energy of it) Also “You’re the best thing” by The Style Council.
2) Inspiral Carpets - “Caravan”
3) Saint Etienne - “Only love can break your heart.
4) Big Country - “Look Away”
I was actually coming here tonight to ask for The Charlatans, so was so pleased to see it :) I was lucky enough to be there for the Madchester movement.. late 80’s, early 90’s around the acid house era. The Hacienda nightclub in Manchester was the place to be ❤️ It was such a great era, right before the rave scene exploded on a more global scale. Loving your vids! Thank you ⭐️
Seem to be pointed to 80’ s to 00’s Manchester music, Roses, Carlatans, Happy Monday’s and Oasis. Check out The Courteeners live at Heaton Park. Won’t be disappointed 👌🏻😁
Bought this single when it came out, may 1990, nearly 34 years ago!!!!!
The Charlatans were awesome. Check out How High, North County Boy, My Beautiful Friend and Senses (best intro ever)
This is from a weird in between period in Alternative Rock from like 1988-1992. It was a trip hop Alt rock dance type beats in Manchester England where most of those bands you mentioned also were kind of big here like The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, Blur, Happy Mondays, Oasis and a bunch of others.
Great tune.
Check out how high by the charlatans, seen this band many times live and they're amazing
Weaverdale cafe in Northwich, Cheshire on the cover, changed its name to The Melting Pot after this was released, sadly closed down a few years ago.
Charlatans, sprostson green... the intro ooh my days
Love some of your choices gents keep it up big fan
Great song. Had this album when it came out. Always preferred them to all the similar bands like Stone Roses.
This was their first big hit abd the one they played the most in clubs, its the classic example of a charlatans song, so its a great choice
The Live versions are better than the original videos. Live on Stage versions if you want to see The Charlatans from (Live The White Room 96.) or The (TFI friday show.)
One of my fav bands,, stoner britpop,, Some Friendly was a wicked album,, As ya do!!
Its refreshing to see yanks appreciate our music.keep up the good work boys.check out the coral when you get a chance top top live band
The Charlatans played at the Oasis finsbury park 2002 concert amazing 👏👏👏👏
1990's spot on.
Love this band
Loving the track selection guys! Check out ‘how high’ and ‘man needs to be told’ by the charlatans as well!
You should definitely check out Primal scream - Moving on up
Done the 'Stone Roses', done 'The Charlatans'. Next in your 'Baggy Marathon' is either 'Happy Mondays' or 'Inspiral Carpets'.
Great track! good choice guys!
It has to be the Clash if you wanna go further back!
The smiths ,the charlatans ,the inspiral carpets ,the happy Mondays the stone roses the verve oasis all Manchester indie0 rock ,fucking epic ,I've seen em all 👍👌👌👌👌
You should definitely look at inspiral carpets too, the band Noel was a roadie for before oasis, they're also from my part of Manchester, and the keyboard player used to be the resident DJ in this very small club in our town
A track of theirs called How High, outstanding song
