I did the stadium tour yesterday, and when we went into the press room, someone asked ‘where does Alasdair Gold sit?’ The tour guide said he had to find that out, as he gets asked so much.
Totally off topics but relating to Alis last vid and online abuse players get.. I was really happy to hear that Winksy is loving life at Leicester. Ive started a new job, turns out working with a long standing friend of the Winks family. Hes known Harry since birth, spoke really highly of him, told me some stories of him doing kick ups with a roll of socks, never seen without a ball etc... all good stuff and as said, winksy is in a good place, which pleased me. He got quite a bit of stick from spurs fans which I never thought was deserved, ive always liked his way and thought he was one of best academy to first team examples at spurs. I quite like Jonathan Wilson usually. What did he say about Werner? Before Wilson I don't really remember anybody writing about tactics in anything other than coaching manuals. Maybe I wasn't reading the right things at the time but his book, Inverting the Pyramid, did seen to inspire quite a lot of football writers (at least in the UK). I then remember being blown away by Michael Cox's site, Zonal Marking, who would do these long break-downs of (usually) Premier League and Champions League. After that, everything just seem to become very stats heavy in it's analysis virtually overnight (or at least to me it seemed like there was quite a bit of conversation as to if stats would even be useful for analysing football with Maldini not really ever moving and making a tackle as he regarded it as his error if he had to slide in etc. Then it seemed like all these crazy detailed stats based sites and companies came out of nowhere. It seemed to go from Fantasy Football goals/assists/clean sheets/ to "passes per defence action and xG xA in no time. Maybe it was my own lack of knowledge meaning I wasn't looking in the right places but Wilson did seem to always get quoted in those sorts of articles. No idea why I've written this comment either. I only picked up the phone because it was half time on Football Manager so thought I'd look at my phone before throwing virtual tea cups at my mediocre, but ever improving Spurs team in the game
Just watched the Manchester deby and amazing how similar the matches were, including the Werner/Foden one on one miss in first half. Both ended 3-1 and both Spurs and Man City were doing what you said Alasdair - passing and prodding away a low block defence. It's why I think we stand a much better chance playing away (or scoring an early goal at home). So my point is that we are at the early stage and we will get better. COYS! (PS people underestimate how Royal saves some of the opposition's goal scoring opportunities).
Royal has had a solid season generally, his mentality for the team, versatility, defending has all been on point when he's been called upon. Has scored and contributed well going forward, he's been quite a stand out player for consistent levels of performance
Lot of pundits and opinion people down on Werner. I think Werner is great. I hope we keep him. I know he needs confidence but the lad is golden. Pace and team player. I hope he comes good for us and creates loads of chances and scores loads to shut them up and get his loan permanent. COYS

He was causing them problems on the left and see him playing a pivotal role in tight games like yesterday. Bissouma was also impressive and I think he is back to his best. Yeah he's been through some really tough times with really high expectations made of him - it would be so good to see him become a successful Spurs player.
Might seem like we struggle to break down a low block but the relentlessness to keep going is the reason why we are scoring so late and testament to the players fitness and determination.
**Ali** I know you like weird knowledge stuff about the match, did you notice (re-watch if not) Son's goal .... the ball hit the back of the net, came back out a few yards, then spun back into the goal again ..... surely that must count as Son double lol
Johnson + confidence = top player in this system This kid is working hard. Sonny told him he was going to come on and make a difference and he did.He has the speed and can pick the pass.
I remember being a bit frustrated in the first half because the players simply weren’t shooting. Correct me if I’m wrong but after half an hour or so, despite dominating we still had 1 attempt on goal despite creating chances. Remjnded me a bit of when Wenger ball was at its worst and they almost had to pass it into the net or make the chance so clear and obvious before finishing. Granted it all worked out in the end and it didn’t help that Palace were so compact. Coys!
City needed 71 mins to score against Brentford’s low block a couple of weeks back, won 1-nil. It often takes time to wear teams down. (In the second half players were more determined to get past their opponents in the one-on-ones, and 60+ mins into the game this is a bit easier than against fresh legs)
Thanks for another stellar analysis, Alasdair! So happy for Johnson. He’s such a talent. It’s going to be a pleasure to see him continue to develop. Also, good for Werner’s persistence and goal. I agree, I think he will get sharper and contribute more. And Sonny-who continues to be brilliant and a first rate captain. On to Villa…
I'm glad you mentioned the fact that destiny stopped passing to Werner. I thought that was one of our biggest problems hopefully Ange sets destiny straight.

@@grahammerry7031 I see what you mean. But traditionally this is what Ange does. What Timo has been doing is pretty much what Ange wants. He often heads for the byline and crosses across the box. Hi ,Ali. Thank you as always. Eze was talking to Son and Maddison after the whistle. Skipp and Austin joined the chat later. It looked really friendly. We’ve been linked to Eze forever, will it finally happen this summer?
Great insights as always, Ali. Thank you for all you do for the Club and the supporters. As for Timo’s remarks, my ears heard “ballast” and I smiled at the poetry of the expression when translated.
Thanks again Alasdair for the excellent video. Away from football, I've just come back from the US including a visit to the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. Not sure if you've been there but as a film buff you'd love it. They have a terrific room highlighting every Oscars since its inception but the highlight to me was the Godfather exhibit. They had the original costumes, Marlon Brando's office and his desk, original scripts, Francis Ford Coppola's 'Godfather' book with his annotations showing what he wanted in some scenes, the mandolin that played the theme tune...and the horse's head (!). Sorry to veer away from our beloved Spurs.
Romero can finally feel stability and a goal for the club. He can see himself winning trophies here. More importantly the club doesn’t feel toxic anymore so he can see himself being happy for a while.
I’m exactly like Ange so i know where he’s coming from.If I’ve got something to say or have got questions to answer I’m fine. But when it comes to small talk I’m off mate.COYS.
Loved your intro with tbe young lad seeing the stadium for the first time,, funnily enough my season ticket seat used to be above the away fans and I loved watching their reactions as they came through their entrance and saw the inside of the stadium for the first time, the WOW factor was great to observe, out came many of their phones for 'selfies' with our fantastic home,,like you I was saying to my wife that we kind of take it for granted going there every home game bit we mustn't and appreciate just how amazing it actually is. Great show as ever by the way.
Thanks, Alasdair for foregoing the sunshine to do another video. Good to have the victory but it would be nice not to keep going behind. Although, maybe Spurs should start every game at 1-0 down - it would save time and they could immediately have their “reaction” to start winning the game!😁
You wonder why players stay on the ground after a penalty claim... Werner bounced up in protest and somehow we dont get a stonewall pen. Strange commentating, strange reffing, strange VARing
Ali, earlier this season you mentioned that Ange Ball includes passing out the back, not booting the ball, even when the opponent is pressing. Late in the match vs. Palace, when Spurs were doing so, one of my friends was throwing up his hands, but I told him what you told us. “This is the way,” as the Mandalorian would say.
Thanks for the video ali. Johnson is quality. And its my birthday tomorrow so cant go wrong with a spurs win and a ali gold video for an early birthday present
The game against Villa needs to be a war. I hope the players go in with that mindset. It's the make or break game of the season. We pumped them the first fixture but didn't get the points. Time for retribution.
Of our 12 remaining games where we need about 21 points for top 4: villa away, chelsea away, wham away, newcastle away, liverpool away, and manc and arse at home. If we drew them all, that would be good going, leaving 14 points to be racked up in the remaining 5 fixtures. It is doable but it seems 5th is currently our most likely destination and we can look back on the poor home defeats in particular for why we have fallen short. (Does anyone serious think 5th place will qualify for CL if we end up 5th??)
Thanks, Ali. I wonder how much do the coaches have players work on their weaker foot in training? I don’t know how much Kulu will run to the outside to put crosses in with his right foot. He seems to be severely left footed which makes him predictable vs a player like Son who’s good on either foot putting crosses into the box. It seems like some training should focus all of the players on being more comfortable on their weak foot. Thanks again, Ali! COYS!
Well put, like him too. He's a team man with fire in his belly, looking to prove the doubters wrong. Goals will come with confidence, so lets give him some.COYS.
I couldn't watch the gsme live because i was watching Dune part 2 😂 saw the game without being loaded with in-game emotion and frankly we looked almost constantly in control, which hasn't always been the case... Cant complain 🤷♂️
Thanks Alistair for another great podcast I always love listening to your messages they are I find a very balanced view of Spurs, somethings you say I don't always agree with but I find it leads to a healthy debate, I thought that Emerson had a good game yesterday but I only watched the highlights on MOTD even going forward but I'll watch the rerun on Spurs TV tomorrow And I will listen to your podcast Gold and Guest when you broadcast it later on in the week so thanks once again
I totally forgot about the first half . After the 2nd . I thought we got better when jhonson come on . He played his soaks off . For me he should be a super sub . When we need it . Good 3 points . It's sad that villa got that last minute goal in there game . Great video coys
Great video as always. On the goalkeeper front, do you see any of the club youngsters taking the number 2 stop or are the club potentially looking at a young back up. Obviously Fraser does well when called upon but he can’t have many years left.
I will say that I would really like our set pieces to improve at both ends. The defensive set up for the free kick was very poor ! Their fake wall totally threw us. Worried about Villa doing a Brentford and trying to wind us up. I predict a feisty affair !!
Does anyone remember the children's TV show Hector's House, Alistair's introduction at the start sounds uncannily like that big, sleepy dog. "I'm a silly old Hector"
Had a good look at Timo in the 2nd half as playing off the left he was right in front of me as he attacked the box. I thought he was trying to make things happen but there does still need to be work from the rest of the team in how to use him. At points he was looking to break forwards only to have the ball played behind him forcing him to check back. When we started playing it to him in the right areas he began to attack his full back and create things. Very pleased he got his goal as it is going to be a confidence thing with him and getting goals will only help his confidence to grow. As we saw with Son a confident player takes the shot early while the keeper is still setting themselves rather than taking the extra touch. General view around where i was sitting at the point he was taken off was one of disappointment as he was playing well and people would have liked to see him play out the 90. Early days of course but 15mil in the summer looks like a bit of a steal.
Your rating on Royal was too low. He had a strong game. Saved a goal after Romero’s mishap & then won the ball up the pitch which led to the scoring chance where Son hit the post. Did you see Dune 2? :)
Biss can ensure we have a fantastic finish if he can get that I run this midfield attitude back. When he feels superior on the pitch, his presence is tangible. He has a Dembele air about him when he is up for it.
Cheers Ali - Great 66 minutes of Spurs! I think I would be like little Lucas ... and I'm 74 years old !!, and yet to step inside the stadium, I live in Nottingham now, so the chances of seeing the ground are getting slimmer.😁
An uncomfortable conversation needs to be had about the fans in the stadium. Spurs can be playing well, be dominating the ball and the game, but it doesn't matter. After around the 10th minute, the stadium turns into a library. The away fans are louder, every single game! How many times do the players need to come out in interviews and say that the atmosphere helped them get the win, or that the atmosphere intimidates the opposition, for the fans to understand? It's like they're not actually there to support the team, they're there so they can watch the team score goals. If the team ISN'T scoring goals, the stadium is completely silent. I know no one wants to hear this, but it's been the elephant in the room for a while now. Home atmosphere matters, make it count. Liverpool win a lot of their matches through Anfield's atmosphere. Their fans don't go into library mode after the 10th minute when their team hasn't scored a goal.
Were you at the stadium? It's a very nervy time with some bad results recently. I get that's when it's needed most but spurs fans are generally pretty loud. All games have quiet points
@mickbanner Even when the results were good, the ground always felt nervy after around the 10th minute if a goal hadn't been scored. No, I wasn't at the stadium. I haven't been for a long time. I can sense the nervousness around the ground through the screen though, and everyone can, including the players.
@@mickbanner I don't think so. We had a string of wins going on and there was still a nervousness around the stadium whenever we weren't scoring goals.
In defence of Romero in that Chelsea game, the ref let that game get scrappy. Chelsea started playing dirty and the ref wasn't blowing the whistle. Romero's challenge got the ball first then the man and the ref would have let it go if VAR didn't call him back.
Thanks Ali great vid as always but can’t agree with you on Bissouma I thought he was awful, always just looking for the safe pass and not showing for the cb’s very much Bissouma of last season as opposed to earlier this year much prefer Bentancur in front of the defence and Sarr alongside to progress the ball
Re the Palace game....1) I'm surprised how little discussion there was of the foul on Werner in the box that should've been a penalty 2) Spurs got a lot of corners but I never thought there would be chance of a goal from a corner because the Palace defenders were pretty much all appreciably taller than our players. So are Spurs as a whole one of the shorter teams in the Premier League?
If the Bundesliga club can give ex-Premier League star Eric Dier a year's extension, I do not see why this Premier League club can not give the ex-Bundesliga star a similar extension also.COYS
Thanks Ali. When I saw the title I thought you was going to mention the UAE ruler, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Rashid Al Mualla meeting Levy recently. Is there anything you can share about that on your next vid?
German here. Werner said “Ballast”, which essentially means weight falling off his shoulders.
Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Sounds amazing. I think they were building it when I last went to LA.
A beautiful day it is
Romero can finally feel stability and a goal for the club.
I hope Romero/Biss and co don’t go for retribution on Matty Cash in the Villa game. Not until we’re 3 nil up anyways 😊
Thank you for your regular updates, they much appreciated 👍😁
The 10-minute blitz saves us again.
Timo is now my second favourite German
Top work as always Ali! Cheers!
Reckon the Villa game will suit Spurs. They won’t sit back which indicates a cracking game. Great content as always Alasdair.😊
Hi Alasdair very interesting and informative as always thanks for your hard work take care stay safe
Once again another fantastic and informative video Alasdair
Excellent result ⚽️ exactly what we needed!
Happy birthday for tomorrow!
Hi Alasdair, another great update, three valuable points. Stay safe and well. COYS.
Brilliant opinion as always, Alasdair... People are quick to forget this team is not the finished article!
Dropping a like and comment and will be back after the Citeh game. Thanks Alasdair
I wish "You Bet" was still on TV. I reckon I could tell you how Spurs got on by just hearing Golds "Hello, Alasdair Gold here"
22:45 I think what Timo was trying to say was that a big burden (Last) fell off of him. Greets from GER.
Excellent as always 🎉 coys that beer is now getting warm !!! Lol
Cheers for stopping for a photo before the game Ali
My pleasure.
The game against Villa needs to be a war. I hope the players go in with that mindset. It's the make or break game of the season. We pumped them the first fixture but didn't get the points. Time for retribution.
Nice to see you happy Ali after a good win.
Great video again!
Thank you
Of our 12 remaining games where we need about 21 points for top 4: villa away, chelsea away, wham away, newcastle away, liverpool away, and manc and arse at home.
We beat villa we are 2 points behind with a game in hand. Their run in isn't easy.
Talking about Richarlison, he seemed ok running to celebrate Sonny's goal lol. And Johnson was excellent, bit of aggression, bit desire = results.
COYS!
Timo was trying to say ballast
I like Werner .. it’s a no brainer deal in my eyes
Theres better out there.
Well put, like him too. He's a team man with fire in his belly, looking to prove the doubters wrong. Goals will come with confidence, so lets give him some.COYS.
For 15mil I agree
Ange will turn him into a champion
@@billytheyid626 They're not coming to Tottenham.
I couldn't watch the gsme live because i was watching Dune part 2 😂 saw the game without being loaded with in-game emotion and frankly we looked almost constantly in control, which hasn't always been the case... Cant complain 🤷♂️
Cheers Big A. Great to see Johnson stepping up, nothing better than a late flurry of goals at home in the south stand
Another amazing video Ali !! Over commenting but that’s cause I love your vids! EHYYYYYY 👍🏻
Thanks Alistair for another great podcast I always love listening to your messages they are I find a very balanced view of Spurs, somethings you say I don't always agree with but I find it leads to a healthy debate, I thought that Emerson had a good game yesterday but I only watched the highlights on MOTD even going forward but I'll watch the rerun on Spurs TV tomorrow
And I will listen to your podcast Gold and Guest when you broadcast it later on in the week so thanks once again
Hopefully Porro is fit so we can send Emerson on toward the end of the game to kung-fu kick Matty Cash in the neck.
Thanks Alasdair. Spurs really need to wake up now and hopefully get a bit form going because weve been winning without playing great for a while
I loved every second of this Ali X143
Does anyone remember the children's TV show Hector's House, Alistair's introduction at the start sounds uncannily like that big, sleepy dog.
"I'm a silly old Hector"
Hey Ali. Great vid as always. I was wondering where you think Spurs will now finish this season?
Sarr and this back problem worries me! Like you said back issues normally take time and rest . I’d give him some time off
Had a good look at Timo in the 2nd half as playing off the left he was right in front of me as he attacked the box.
I feel like Biss is scared to take a man on now. I think the Man City turn and yellow against Luton has put too much doubt in his mind
Biss can ensure we have a fantastic finish if he can get that I run this midfield attitude back. When he feels superior on the pitch, his presence is tangible. He has a Dembele air about him when he is up for it.
Cheers Ali - Great 66 minutes of Spurs!
I think I would be like little Lucas ... and I'm 74 years old !!, and yet to step inside the stadium, I live in Nottingham now, so the chances of seeing the ground are getting slimmer.😁
come on youll feel the noise
^ we need to do better than that still.
@mickbanner Even when the results were good, the ground always felt nervy after around the 10th minute if a goal hadn't been scored. No, I wasn't at the stadium. I haven't been for a long time. I can sense the nervousness around the ground through the screen though, and everyone can, including the players.
@shams3831 the crowds are OK. Could be better cud be worse. A string of wins would gear em up
@@mickbanner I don't think so. We had a string of wins going on and there was still a nervousness around the stadium whenever we weren't scoring goals.
The Ali Gold video after win always hits like CRACK 😂😂😂
In defence of Romero in that Chelsea game, the ref let that game get scrappy. Chelsea started playing dirty and the ref wasn't blowing the whistle. Romero's challenge got the ball first then the man and the ref would have let it go if VAR didn't call him back.
Thanks Alasdair,, great to celecrate a win again.. Brennan is a class act.
All we need now is to go on a 38 game streak of not conceding and we'll be good to go 😂
Haha let’s do it!
I always think Sonny is gonna score he literally have 1 bad season and it wasn’t shocking. He always have top conversation rate for a reason.
The calm before the storm at Villa? 😂 COYS from USA!
Rocking the wolverine look there Big Al
Thanks Ali great vid as always but can’t agree with you on Bissouma I thought he was awful, always just looking for the safe pass and not showing for the cb’s very much Bissouma of last season as opposed to earlier this year much prefer Bentancur in front of the defence and Sarr alongside to progress the ball
My weekend is complete.......😊
Ali, amazing how Romero's temperament improvement seems to have coincided with the signing of Dragusin? 🤔
I thought that. All of a sudden with competition for his place and he's gained Linekers temperament 😂 no bookings in 2024! 👏
It's been the whole season - Chelsea aside - really.
That face ! That hair !! Was very funny 🤣
