At 700 to 750 dollars for this level of hardware alone, these new handhelds are worth the price. I'm using my Go as a laptop to do my sculpting work on I zbrush, it's fantastic(especially if you get XR glasses to go with it). I don't need to lug a full laptop around anymore when I travel!
They still have some wrinkles to iron out but there are lots of ways to work around it not having VRR using riva tuner and fps capping. Depending on the game I'll cap it to either 36 48 or 72 fps on 144z. Anything above 72 fps feels plenty smooth even without VRR.
This^
I need to take a work laptop when I travel which mean carrying another laptop for my personal stuff is just too much… the Go seems like the perfect solution. I have been using the Steam Deck but Linux is not something I have fully adopted for productivity.
My Go comes the week and I am thinking about loading Windows 11 ltsc off the bat as it has zero bloatware.
I love this idea.
What pen do you use for your legion go when using zbrush?
@@joiboiii I don't use a pen on the screen, I use a wacom intuos tablet either plugged into a usbc hub or over bluetooth.
Same here pal
I like this video and it felt different. I'm hearing things/points based from a user that probably played with the Legion Go enough and hearing actual experience on a relatable level. It doesn't felt like there's a fine blueprint on where we're gonna breakdown this device after being sent by the sponsor. As a casual, I just want to know the experience of having this device and I felt that here. Legion Go in my country is worth USD 890 so I really need inputs like this.
@KunoichiTin thank you so much :') appreciate you!
Exactly! I couldn't have said it better, and I tried.😅. I'm hoping we finally have found such a thorough and honest lengthy reviewer for all future handhelds. *Crosses fingers*
I ordered my legion last night. So excited for it. Thanks for your insights
how is your experience with it now
@@draco2xxsince they late to respond I’ll tell ya, got a dock for mine today. Absolutely awesome! Not a console or inexperienced gamers choice tho! Fantastic for someone looking to emulate or play any pc games on the go. Emulation gaming at better resolution and storage expansion is why I put the legion over ally. Support line with Lenovo is the best of the 3, steam a close second. Until they fix the micro Ssd issue on ally, legion is a solid daily driver. Resolutions are higher and screen is bigger but I would recommend just using 1080p and 1280x800 for fps. Good frame rates with the right settings like all of them. Truly impressed me coming from 3060ti desktop I built, don’t get me wrong my desktop is more powerful. To be able to play your games anywhere is what the selling point is and you can stream from you main pc pretty seamlessly at home. You already have a lot downloaded at home then no dock needed to play, whole steam catalog without the space on the device used seamlessly so long as you are on same wifi. I would recommend legion over ally until they fix the micro ssd issues, ally is great also just not enthusiast consumer level. I also would say get a anti glare screen protector no matter what you pick! Steam oled if you really don’t care about windows, is still good choice for battery life especially! Lastly your missing out on gamepass, even tho that doesn’t matter the same nowadays with how they kill studios over there😅
I have the Ally and Go. Trying the Lenovo for a bit to see which one I will like more. I think I'm leaning towards the Ally strictly for the comfort in holding it. Feels more natural in playing FPS games in controller mode for me. Both are great though.
I agree that it the ally does feel much more comfortable to hold, at least for me lol.
@mishileehunibee darn, you're fine
@@erfgthygreas1709lmao thirsty in the comment section. Life must be tough for you 😂😂😂
Hi, Mishi. Thanks for the video. A lot of people have complained about the fan noise and that the fan is aalways running. What are your thoughts and experience with it?
use ear plugs
For the ROG Ally does it still burn your SD card? I wanted to try it but I'm worry about it killing my SD card. Let me know. Great video keep it up!
Design flaw. Can't avoid it.
I absolutely love this device, though I unfortunately agree with you about the terrible speaker quality. The big screen is beautiful. I've only used the controller in mouse mode a few times, but I can see how it would be appealing.
@erikrounds glad you're enjoying it so far! :)
I have been using my Legion with no issues at all. Keep in mind that if you do not have experience troubleshooting on a gaming PC you may end up having issues with any windows handheld, you have to know what you are doing. Once you find the sweet spot everything else runs smooth. I have too say that the rogue Ally has the best sound ever, VRR is not there but the screen in the Legion is just awesome. So first understand what you like and what you can live without and then make your choice.
Most definitely, legion go are for consumers that know how to update drivers, software, and how to optimize any type game. It’s not for someone that is not too in-depth about these customization and utilizations. I do believe legion go still has some updates to do to make things a little more simple
@oliverherrada solid input! thanks for your comment! :)
If you’re troubleshooting, you’re having issues.
@@jayallen9198ask any gamer with a Windows laptop if they don't have issues while installing videogames, there is always something to troubleshoot, no matter what computer you use, there is always something to address.
You talking about windows experience when you don’t know system optimization is. Funny!!
Hi did you update your legion space? Looks like the old one, you can also change the charging speed! It’s on “slow charging by default” you are given options to change it to “medium speed” or “fast speed charging” change it to fast charging! Crazy charging difference
omg of course they would release an update the same day I upload my video lol 😭 I haven't updated it yet so I'm excited to check it out. thanks for the tip about the charging options! :)
The free fx sound app fix sound yes?
I was in the same boat. I returned my legion go. I think the hardware was great but the software and the legion space just made any good experience not worth it. The ally as it stands now aside from the sd card reader is the windows device I would’ve preferred. Maybe in a few months it will be a joy. I did manage to get an order for the steam deck Oled model today though 😊
@kaiichiinose9590 oooo yesssss... that oled steam deck is next on my list lol
i got the SD oled as well just as it went out of stock - 1tb model
@@florianoprescu2171 noooice. I went with the 512 because with an Oled panel I do not like anti glare at all. I understand why some might want it but to me it mutes the colors a tad bit and it really doesn’t provide that anti glare but more of reflections which I don’t really see while gaming and I don’t game outdoors. I have a 4090 desktop pc hooked up to my 42 lg c2 Oled and it’s the most beautiful display I’ve used with a oc.
@@mishileehunibee yes indeed. It will be my emudeck and older titles chilling device. I still have my Oled switch though for those Nintendo exclusives only. Every household should have atleast one switch.
@@kaiichinose9590 from what I've seen, a screen protector will mitigate that to some extent.
I had Lenovo Go for over 10 days and it's perfect for me. I boot straight in to Windows on mine, so i can select one of the nearly 10 launchers installed directly.
I also prefer Windows mode over Lenovo Space for quick access to Windows apps etc.
3 months now, how do you feel about the Go?
@@danielx1224 Nothing changed. To me it's still a hybrid handheld/laptop, and not a pure gaming handheld like the others.
I use it as a mini PC too and is still the handheld most suitable for laptop usage.
I have docking with output to monitor/TV, keyboard etc. too.
@@V3ntilator how do you feel about gaming performance?
The go offers hand held as an alternative but always fudges in favor of the table or desktop gameplay experience. It's a price conscious alternative to a laptop. It's for people who like the flexibility to go hand-held but don't consider it their central priority. The wildcard is whether screen size is going to compel people to ignore the ergonomic tradeoffs. I suspect alot of Samsung's cell phone success has come from screen size.
This is actually perfect for a truck driver on a 34 hour reset. Big screen without having to mount a TV. Not too many watts compared to a console or laptop.
As a user of both, what do you recommend? should I wait for legion go updates or go for the ally? if all the fixable problems on the legion is fixed, would it be worth it?
Hmm.. well I guess it depends on personal preference right? For me, one of my biggest cons was how uncomfortable it is to hold, so I don't think I'll get an update on that lol. If i was using the Legion as my primary PC and using it with a keyboard and mouse, I would 100% go for the Legion. But if I'm looking at strictly handheld gaming, I think personally I would prefer the Ally because it's more comfortable for me.
@@mishileehunibee Thank you very much for the information, just what I needed.
It is fairly easy to reconnect the joycons. You just need to hold the Legion button on each one for about 10 secs. They are like power buttons.

have you tried playing any older games on the legion ? games that runes on direct x 9 or 10 ? most of those don't work on the legion because of the portrait screen
@mam630 does Skyrim count as old? 😭 lol
@@mishileehunibee yes it does lol
@mam630 then yes! I've only played skyrim tho and it looks great! is portrait mode preventing older games from playing?

Got those on point girl, returned my GO and waiting for my DECK OLED !
Hey Mishi ! If You were to pick one (for someone who has PS5/Xbox Series X/ Switch Oled) - Steam Deck Oled or Asus Ally z1 extreme , which one would You pick ? (or would that even be something worth thinking about when already having all the other devices ? 😄
Great video!
Hi Sebastian! :) that is such a great question.. honestly, I think it just depends on what you're going to be doing. I got the new Steam Deck OLED a couple days ago and I love it! If you're looking to strictly play steam games and don't really want to deal with the Windows set up and just Windows in general lol, Steam Deck is the way to go. I love that I can just pause it and put it down for hours and then pick it up and start right where I left off. BUT the Ally has VRR, which I know is a huge deal breaker for a lot of people. The Ally has windows by default, so you can install other launchers and play other non-steam games which is really nice. (you can do this with the steam deck too, it's just effort and I'm lazy lol). This is really just scratching the surface tho, have you looked at a few videos comparing the two?
@@mishileehunibee Thanks for Your reply ! I did watch other videos about the handhelds (some videos from You too actually !)
I don't have a big steam library, and I mostly play on home consoles. (I do have game pass so windows based handheld would make more sense I guess?)
I'm feeling like all of them have some kind of negatives that I don't like (Ally = no touchpads + heard the sticks are... not too good for shooters, the steam deck wouldn't be too good for games that I play more often (like Call of duty etc.) and I feel like Legion Go might be a bit to big for my use case scenario (like I said, mostly play at home and usually use Nintendo Switch when traveling, but than again I can barely fit it since my backpack is full of camera gear and drones (travel filmmaker) ..... ehhh might just not be something for me I guess, but love the idea.
PS. Keep it up, very good video (videos actually) great job !

great review, definetly honest, hand me on the fence but i fell back to my ally
nice presentation!! I 'm pretty happy with my Ally for me the sound and the vrr is a game changer and the smaller size makes it a really portable device the go is more like a heavy tablet I can say
Really enjoyed the video, did not feel overwhelming with specs and as a casual gamer I appreciate that. I really cannot decide between the Go and Ally
This was an absolutely awesome and comprehensive review I was torn between getting this and the steam deck Oled i'm definitely getting the steam deck oled
The deck is painfully underpower
I think RetroGameCorps, Taki Udon or ThePhawx, for example are more comprehensive.
I'm here because I'm a woman and there's just not enough women in this space, so that perspective is really important to me.
She mentions it isn't comfortable, but even the dudes with their man hands find Deck and Ally better ergonomically.
Watch everyone, even the bad ones, when you're buying. You don't ever know what tidbit or different perspective that aligns with yours that they might add that's useful and things which reaches consensus, hold a bit more weight.
@@trabuco81there's a reason Valve is waiting for generational improvement APU and the Go is hampered by not having integer scaling.
As of 10 days ago when i got mine, you can turn i on the controllers with a like full 10 second hold on the legion button(s)
you can reconnect the controllers by holding down the top corner button on the front of the controller until the light starts flashing
Had to exhange mine, had a bug where when ever id turn 360 degrees to the bottom, itll actuvate melee or fires , ugh
For me it kinda came down to the utilities it offered. The kickstand was just so much better then the switch, and the lack off a stand on both the deck and ally was a big deal for me. Having the mouse mode aswell for the right controller also being a big deal for me as I dont want to be carrying a M&K combo around. The comfort even I can agree with wasnt as good as the ally, and the button placement I got no idea what they were thinking. Other than that I have enjoyed it a lot, and it works great for my media consumption and gaming.
I have also disabled the lenovo app, as I dont want to use it at all.
I think you can hold the Legion L or Legion R buttons to turn on/connect the respective controller when it is not connected.
i know 😭 i didn't learn that until after I posted the video, but thank you!!

yeah I love mine, zero issues here
That’s the one thing I love about the Deck it remembers all your controller settings for every game and settings so just that alone is one of the best features in my opinion set it up once and never have to worry about it again 👌 😊
On top of that, on the steam deck you have the option to use community made controller settings, and it even shows how many hours people have used those settings. Such a great feature.
I didn't know that about the steam deck, thanks for the tip! :) I ordered the new oled version so I'm excited for it!!
Most hand helds do that to steam input is on windows to....
thanks for review just bought mine. Love it, 4:50 you can just long press on legion R/L button to reconnect joystick back easily, I know video is two months old, could be lenovo updated now.
If you hold the Legion Button on each Joycon for about 7 seconds, it will turn on/off.

Hi! Are you able to read in-game texts fine on the 8.8"? I had the Steam Deck before, but on the 7" screen, I couldn't easily read in-game texts such as quests or dialogue texts for many RPG games. Example games are Witcher 3 and Diablo 4.
great question!! I've been playing Baldur's Gate and there is text on the screen when it comes to dialogue. I wasn't struggling to read it, but I also had to wear my glasses every time I played and I tried to keep the screen as close as possible. but maybe my eyes are just bad lol. I also played it on the ally, and it was much harder to read in comparison.
You should be able to increase text size on most video games fyi
You can reconnect by long pressing the lenovos own butten on the top
Greetings from South Africa! Thanks for the review, I'm glad I stumbled across your content. I was considering saving for a Legion Go, but since launch I've seen enough to convince me it doesn't fit my particular gaming use case. I don't need a huge screen, and I always have dedicated hardware around when I play.
Still, I like your take on it, that the Legion Go excells in particular use cases, and the Ally excells in others.

@@mishileehunibee It's all over my feeds! Near everyone in the handheld PC field is talking about it. But it's not on my list. Thanks to quirks of distribution, the ROG Ally is about $100 cheaper than the LCD Deck here, and it has a lot more official support.

I want to get one, but I’m hesitant with all the reviews on it
I’ve owned an ally since launch and no headaches. It’s actually an amazing handheld. My only gripe is the battery life. A demanding AAA game will give you an hour tops. So you’ll always be plugged in or have an external battery strapped to you. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a “portable” handheld
I personally love the Ally, but yes, the battery life isn't great and the SD card slot is known to have issues

I upgraded to the Legion Go from a Steam Deck LCD that I purchased when they were first released. The reason I upgraded was for performance reasons and ease of use. I was very disappointed when I purchased the SD and went to play Gears of War and was unable to do so. Then a new Proton was release making it so I could finally play just for it to get messed up again. With the Go I'm not having those problems. Also the screen is amazing, due its sized I sometimes forget its even a handheld. I'm able to get 60FPS from most of my games, something I wasn't able to do with the Steam Deck. I really liked my Steam Deck, but after the release of the OLED , I felt like it was a slap in the face to all of us who purchased the SD from the start. I have till Jan 15th with my Go but so far its a keeper.
Slap in the face? Really? I envied the people that had the OG steam deck, steam os is wonderful, great customer service aid. Steamdeck had everything going for them. Can't believe you would back talk after having steam, the fact that steam deck even made an oled version with bigger battery, because they're listening to the consumers. You think Asus or Lenovo will do the same for you? I'm telling you now the next steam deck is gonna beat everything else on the market when it comes out.
@crimsoncloud6352 that's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong Steam Deck walked so all these other companies and systems could run. And I agree about the Valve Customer Service. All I'm saying is it should of been OLED from the start.

@@cyrax3840 This is one of the major reasons I was hesitant to buy it. The more I think about it, the less of a problem it is. Ill pop in a 2tb sad and never use the slot, if I need to transfer files, ill use my m.2 enclosure .
Gotta admit, i couldn't tell the difference between the vrr comparisons in this video. probably wait a little longer before i decide on whether or not I want to pick up the legion go. maybe when legion space is improved i'll grab one. the rog ally is definitely a no go for me. asus' radio silence on the sd card issue makes me wary of ever picking up anything from asus.
I can assure you that the lack of Vrr is not an issue whatsoever on rhis device. Good thing Lenovo is staying on top of things when it comes software updates, give it a little time for optimization

I got the legion go yesterday and I love it man. I’m blown away by the performance. The only reason I could see someone returning it, is if they don’t know how to do pc gaming (updates, drivers, launchers, windows, video settings etc…) steam deck oled is better for people that don’t know how to use a pc. Legion go is a dream come true for pc gamers.
That's definitely not the only reason.
The Go isn't as good on the Go, as in handheld use. It's a handheld that is better, on a table top. A laptop is also better on a table top. That's just one reason beyond your only, nonsense.
The Go markets itself as FPS focused, but if you play handheld, not table top, you still will do better with Steam Deck sticks, trackpads & gyro, which are better than the Ally, she prefers. Although, if it's an anti cheat title, then maybe Ally or Go are better than Deck dual booting.
Sometimes even people that know, don't want to spend the additional time, not playing their game. I've heard that from more than reviewer, who definitely knows, but just want to play, when they aren't working.
I'm glad it's great for you
One of the most real reviews out there!
I appreciate that! :)

Have a steam deck and was going to order an oled steam deck, but I wanted a more substantial upgrade, so I went with the Legion Go! Better apu and larger screen, I'm looking forward to it
A screen that is only larger.
OLED has better color gamut, etc. OLED is crisper, because it doesn't need to pay and rely on AMD to help with integer scaling firmware, that we don't even know if Lenovo is trying to get it.
When you use the better APU, then you're experiencing the fuzzy screen, because you can't run that game at 1600p, & you're getting way less battery life, on something that gets less battery life even with comparable light gaming.
Using it plugged in, you can get more performance on a laptop for less $
how are you liking it? have you picked up your steam deck since lol
I'd say Steam Deck is able to run 90% of my gaming library, you'll miss out on a few but if I can't play it, I use my PS5.
@mishileehunibee I'm loving the legion go. I haven't picked up my steam deck since. The go definitely plays more games, and I've noticed better performance.
The Legion Go is going to improve. The Legion Space on the Legion go is new Lenovo already addressed more updates coming. I would keep it.
@ChariotManGaming85 i think so too! it already has such a solid foundation
I mean, aside from the speakers, all issues are software related and they're totally fixable. I agree with you about not returning it as Lenovo keeps pushing updates and address the issues.
@@lewyathan You already know. I address this in my video.
With all the updates that were released this thing is a pleasure to own now. Plus you can use it as a gamming rig and hook up an external GPU and push the limits even more with the graphics.
It does need replacement controller options but everything else is just software related keeping mine
I have the Go but I plan on returning it. The screen is awesome but I just can’t get over the rest of the issues. I’m sure it will be great in a year or so. Maybe I’ll pick another one up then. Until that time , I’m going with a steam deck oled.
But the steam deck oled lacks power. Unless you play just old games, is that a good trade? I was thinking of returning the Go, but realised I would miss the detachable controllers and the stand. Plus the power to play any game.
@@waqmanime trust me im gonna miss all the power and screen, but I don’t really care for windows on mobile. Microsoft really needs to work on a solution. Anything that is too powerful for steam deck I just stream it from my pc to the deck. I heard that oled screen is amazing , I’m gonna check it out. I can hold onto the go until January so if they improve it more, I might just hold on to it.
@@spiket4138 I feel like it's a good position to be in when we have choice tbh. I haven't tried streaming from PC yet is it lag free? I tried the PS5 it was terrible.
@@waqmanime I agree with you, I’m glad that we have multiple options to choose from, I believe the systems are only gonna get better. I still have 2 months with the legion go before I have to return it and if they push out a few more updates, who knows, I may just keep it. Time will tell. Streaming from my pc with steam link is pretty good, didn’t have that much lag. I tried with ps5 also and that is terrible. Streaming is just not all the way there yet. Still needs work.
@@spiket4138 I agree on the Microsoft coming up with a decent handheld UI…but they are lazy, and would rather claim credit for what another company does.
I just got this handheld but I’m not planning to return it. Instead I’ll keep it sealed until I decide to place to auction.
I had the Ally and loved it no problems at all. I just can't do the 7 in screen anymore. I only had the Legion Go 2 days now. But I love it and will be keeping it. The screen is amazing. The sound is underwhelming but is not a deal breaker for me
I have got a recently message that I can pick it up and wasn't sure about it when I have a Steam Deck and now I am more lean to it, BUT need to know if it runs Palia lol
I don't see why it wouldn't run Palia.
The more i looked into it the more or I wanted to get it, but im happy I didn’t buy it impulsively. I’ll wait until next summer and hope a new gen of any kind is announced with that new Halo Gen whatever chip
There is tv glasses you can use it with so you dont need to look down ifnyou dont want like viture
This unit with Windows runs like a well oiled machine. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and haven't experienced a single crash or freeze, and is super snappy. I love the track pad and scroller. It boots up incredibly fast. The screen is is waay better than I thought it would be. It's friken gorgeous. I'm actually glad Lenovo didn't focus so much on audio because I plug in my Sony headphones. A really good audio system would just go to waste. Glad I didn't need to spend more for good on board speakers. I could Go on.......
Sent mine back after 3 days, to big, to heavy, back buttons placement weird, many SW problems. Ordered the Ally instead, very nice so far, only wish it would have a bigger screen. Think 7.5" - 8" is perfect for a handheld
Those frame drops mid-battle in Fortnite are the reason I will be waiting to get this device. My $300 Xbox Series S performs twice as good as this thing, which is unfortunate. But I have hope that some updates will help resolve this issue
The whole point of the device is to be a handheld. You can get good gaming PCs that would easily over perform the legion at 700$ But if you need it to play or do things on the go then that is what it's made for. I have a series s as well but since it's not portable it won't serve the purpose.
@@PKMB-js5xh agreed but each of these devices have their own unique use purposes. For a device that claims to run 144fps and be more geared towards competitive games, I would expect it to be able to actually execute that at this price point
@@genevievetaylor well I just went on and purchased it 3 days ago and the latest driver and bios updates that Lenovo has provided now hit the expected performances as well. I can see why people would've struggled initially as even I wasn't happy with it until I made all the firmware updates.
@@PKMB-js5xh that’s awesome. I’m hoping to get my hands on one of these in the near future as well. Lenovo has done a good job at addressing a lot of the device’s issues with their recent updates
One extra thing to add on to someone looking to upgrade from a steam deck is you're no longer linux/windows gatekept. I have a steam deck and getting theLegion go was a liberating experience not having to worry about Linux compatibilty. I know you can boot windows off an sd card (which I have), but lets be honest, windows experience on the deck sucks and I'm convinced they abandoned future updates for that side. Don't get me wrong, I love my steam deck and plan to keep it, but believe me when I say the legion go is that big of an upgrade in more areas than not.
I have had mine since Christmas, no issues
Cool review, congrats
@Rodterraa thanks! :)
I subscribed to your channel when you said that you are getting older, I respected that so much, it was very humble of you to say that, as I am old myself and do need a bigger screen, I have the Ally, but want to get the Legion Go for the bigger screen, kind regards
this was super interesting and felt honest.
you could get the xreal air glasses, and save on neck strain. (which could hurt you eventually)
thanks mishi! subbed
oooo you know what, I've been looking at those!! I was going to make a video about them but then the legion came out... and then the steam deck oled so right now im working on the steam deck video :)
very nice and honest Video... After going through so many videos about LLG and Ally I concluded one thing that clearly there is no winner and both of the devices has its own pros and cons . Either you will get disappointed by both or will be impressed by either.
Returned the Legion Go today and might pick it up once the dead zones are fixed for playing FPS games. Will stick to my RTX 3070 PC in the meantime. ;)
Great video!
thank you! :)
