- Beauty Dishes are one of Peter's favourite light modifiers, but he doesn't use them in the traditional way others do. In this video, he will show you his tips on how he shoots with one.

Peter Coulson is the best photographer
wow thank you
Every time I watch another video I learn something new.
Thanks so much
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer I never understood the light quality coming from a beauty dish until this video. And ‘think out loud’ style explains why you are working in that way. So useful. I want to get better, and your videos are the best.
FANTASTIC! I love my Norman BD/22"; a 20+yr relationship. Dented, bent, re-painted, etc.- it's "family". And either bare, gridded, or socked.....the results possible are endless. And timeless!
Really, the dish is owesome
Good to see you both working
Thanks William, love working with Meika
Love this shoot! 😍

Hi I have been photographer over 40 years. I can see you're very talented Peter
Thanks so much
One of the best modifier videos I have seen to date!
Wow, thanks so much!
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer You're welcome, and you better enjoy it because usually I'm very critical and it's not often I make such a glowing compliment :))) You are a true master, This is so coincidental as I was pondering whether or not to buy a beauty dish with a grid and a sock, plus a C stand and a 600Ws flash. How crazy is it to go onto youtube and see this exact video at this time ?
Love this. All of it. Thank you …
Thanks
Peter's greatest beauty dish is called Bec.
Thank you very much!!!
You're welcome!
Brill video - just loved it and again fantastic photos - cheers Craig
Glad you enjoyed it Craig
Great instruction as always.
Thank you
Yay! I'm 2nd! That's my big accomplishment for the week. Bec is great again. Nice lighting tutorial. I had one of those shallow dishes years ago with a Speedotron unit. Did not use it enough.
Thanks heaps :) I remember Speedotron back in the day
really liked the gridded shot. that color change that you did early one, im not sure how to do just the selective change in LR but im going to look for it
She is Soo pretty + + ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice ! I like using the beauty dish with a grid . I feel it gives me better control of the light .
Me too!
Always great to see you! Thanks for the lighting tutorial.
No worries, thanks for watching
That's great
Excellent! Just what I needed on a rainy morning in Wales UK! Thanks guys! Full of top class info as usual, lot's of little subtleties working with a model.
Our pleasure!
I'd love to visit Wales with my kit and tripod. Do you have a time of year you'd recommend to a Yank from Pennsylvania?
@@davidmilisock5200 Hi David, depending on what you're looking for, wildlife or landscape, would be criteria to decide what time of year and which area to visit. I'm afraid that being a people only photographer I would be hesitant to advise on this, however the Welsh tourist board would be a good place to start I think?
@@MickPayton I photograph anything, far more interested in landscape and animals than people.
I have streamed some videos shot in Wales and videos no matter where they come from are videos but the landscape in some scenes looks rugged, isolated and perfect for a person like me. However only having limited time to shoot and only one butt, I prefer to freeze it off closer to home. Looking for the best temperatures, rain doesn't bother me.
@@davidmilisock5200 You should be ok from April onwards to October with the chance off it being a bit cold in those months. The UK climate is tame compared to some locations but follow advice if hill walking, especially alone. . Cardiff is a lovely city full of phot opportunity and genuine Welsh people. Cool restaurants and art, history and culture; live music in summer (June-September)☺️
Awesome video, technique, model and posing! Thank you very much Peter for sharing!! I just subscribed to your channel
Thanks for the sub!
wowwwww is amazing
Thank you
awesome vid thanks Peter!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer im curious wether you've done a 2 model shoot in the studio? Id be interested in seeing a video based on that, maybe down the track,
@@scott7926 We are planning on doing a shoot with Abbey and Layla soon
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer cool!

And yeah… it’s Meika!!!!
You the best of them all i love how you do everything,
I wish i can meet you one day
Am inspired ✌️✌️✌️✌️
Thank you so much 😀
Great vid
Thank you
good Job
That's great; encouraging too. I could probably sort myself out a beauty dish without hitting the finances too heavily. It's very interesting to hear about the fashion industry and Micre (hope I heard correctly) has some cool shapes and poses. Very impressed :)
Thanks
2:19 the most fast fashion preset creation. thanks master
Thanks Dave
Nice
Absolutely amazing background effects and features using the Beauty Dish . I just love the ideas that flow through Mr. Peter's mind full of live/strong imaging of every model/subject he works on with his camera and setup.
Thanks heaps
Wow
Was that Peter or the Grid on the beauty dish self reflecting about being old and broken works best 😍
Me!
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer noted.
@Peter Coulson
Você é muito bom, estou aprendendo com você.
A modelo fica muito à vontade.
Obrigado
She's pretty
She is so cute
Nice....
THE Beauty dish, is the Mola dish. They’ve been around for years. Other lighting companies have developed similar products. Profoto and other lighting companies, do refer to them as beauty dishes.
nice double neg in the beginning 😂
nice
That filter was the cats meow! Really added to the scene.
thanks
thought is the enemy of flow
Many thanks for sharing this session, it hasn’t been short at all, I am aware you have been very busy these latest days. @Bec: a pleasure to see you again; you should know you have the skills to bring a smile back on the faces of people; many thanks for recording the session @Peter: I like a lot your vintage disk, I believe it has enlightened many beautiful Models; many thanks for showing how you manipulate and adjust the colors (2:20-3:12, 6:58-7:52); many thanks for your opinion about the shadow below the chin (3:29); many thanks for mentioning fashion concepts, because before I started watching this series, I thought fashion was just a sequence of models walking on a row on top of a walkway. @Meika: I like the way you look at the screen (3:08); I also like your vertical geometry; I like the stretched poses (e.g. 6:44, 6:47, 9:30, 9:37, 10:29) because it expandes the lungs, it allows a better breathing, it brings happiness and it expresses freedom, additionally it exposes the soul that is located in the top side of the chest; I like when you interact with Peter (9:55-10:19); I like the sequence of poses (10:30-end); I like when you expose the hipbone, on top of the 3 rings in the belt; my favorite pose is at 11:14. You are a great team!
Photos were do I dare say it "really cool!"
"Wanging" ... sounds like "Frobbing"
When you use a radio with a dial, (yes I am that old) there are three modes:
- "Turning" is a large adjustment of the dial to get to the station you want to listen to
- "Tuning" is a fine adjustment of the dial to get a precise lock on the channel and cut out any noise
- "Frobbing" is turning the dials back and forth for for fun, and maybe see if you can pick up a random station.
I love the term Frobbing Thank you :)
Shadow is important.
