This video does an honest, realistic job of showing you what trout spey is like. I love this method of angling. It slows you down. It's fundamentally simple once you get a cast that works (if you develop a good cast even better but it isn't THAT hard). Here on the Lower Sacramento River it allows me to DIY fly fish without being confined to drift boat as the only option. It also appeals to my love of nature. It allows you to feel your line while looking at a bald eagle or momma merganser and her brood swimming along near you. The takes are unforgettable and electric. Want to catch more fish? Nymph. Want to have a relaxing and meaningful experience where you DO have a shot at great fish? Join us here on Trout Spey Way! You can even be very long...(Beatles reference for you youngsters).

Awesome, well done Michael. The casting alone looks peaceful.

I'm gonna have to give that a try. I really love hunting and fishing, but i love cooking what i catch even more.

Good stuff Marcus. Nothing more therapeutic than fishing! Can't wait to see what's next.

I have been fly fishing Montana for the last 6 summers
    Spey fishing is awsome!
    BUT!!!
I have been fishing with a 6' Bamboo fly rod (that my wife bought at a garage in Brighton Colorado 1986 sale for $1- nothing fancy but all that I use anymore and I have caught some great fish on it)
with the smallest most basic Pfluger reel
I head out with only a pocket full of flies, minimum tools
Tangling with a large trout on the smallest of rods is insanely fun as well!

It dont mean a thing if its not on the swing but also Trout don't count ;) Have you tried a switch rod yet? Its now my jam. Well done video explaining why to spey its not to be extra douchie :D Also have you tried a shock loop to help with hook up? Just curious as couldnt tell in the video if you were using. Early on didnt seem like it.

I've never casted a switch rod! No shock look either. Shooting head, MOW Tip, to a short 4-5 mono leader!

@@Fresh_Tracks ideally a shock loop should help increase hookups I certainly recommend it for steelhead
And I love my switch has all the advantages of a spey but in a smaller quicker setup 11' 7" 7wt.

Roll casting all day, euro nymphimg, next up streamers…lol…stick to guys like Gary Borger and old schools studs.
No doubt you can fish. Just so much of this is all fads. My dad put a fly rod in my hand at 10 and we fished every state west of the Mississippi over the last 35 years together running the tried and true methods. I grew up on guys like Dave Whitlock, Gary Borger, Chuck Rizzuto, and Craig Matthews. Legends.
