@@ayeshasiddika7137it's not uncommon in iron deficiency and connective tissue disorders, but in a completely healthy person, it's odd. for most people, it's pretty faint, so it's not noticed. but his must have been pretty vibrant.
Was looking for this comment, surprised they weren't able to find out about that! There's a few conditions that can also lead to this, but I'd assume in this case it was probably iron deficiency.
the fact that adult police officers felt sick and teary eyed while they had to go through that apartment unit and to imagine a literal child trapped in there for years. so heartbreaking.

24 years would have been somewhat fair because I don't think anyone can prove she had killed her husband. Perhaps stealing his identity (his cellphone SIM). She should have also been charged with child neglect and child abuse.
There are a lot of European countries where 15 years is a life sentence.
There are a lot of countries whose sentences are even shorter

Those poor kids.. from being forced to help your mom shove your dads body in a bucket, to being shut in whats basically a gas chamber all your life. I hope wherever Chiho is, he's safe, happy, loved and is eating his heart out. To his older brother, I hope he knows that it wasn't his fault for what his mom did and it doesn't reflect him, just her.
Yeah. I can’t imagine how guilty he feels. And even tho this case is horrible in every aspect including the sentencing time, I am just glad he wasn’t charged because some psycho happened to be his mom and he was dragged into this. He deserves peace and I’m glad he got away from her.

Nah, this kid in will probably be freak for the rest of his life. This amount of trauma and neglect will be with him for the rest of his life.
This was crucial years of his development, physically and mentally.

I agree as a child I lived in a abandoned building with a dozen of runaway teens who’s parents didn’t even report us missing I was there because of an incident I don’t wanna get into on here but what I’m saying I know what it’s like to live on little food and horrible conditions and when the police rescued us they only gave us all new homes and didn’t even look into our parents or how we got there but anyway I hope the kid is doing well now ❤
They didn’t charge her with child neglect because of her extreme mental illness state but mostly because there was bigger fish to fry for the prosecutors at this point with two adult victims killed and stuffed in buckets I think the prosecutors picked their battle there because her main intention wasn’t to harm her son it was to kill those poor men, so they focused on that so the defence doesn’t get the chance to speak of how much she loved her son and extort empathy. That’s my conclusion either way. she should have fought her demons for her child and got her self help or at least tried, however it has to be said that she wasn’t self aware nor possessed any healthy critical thinking skills so we can’t compare her actions to those without illnesses, she needed serious help early on and no one did anything to help her and so Lee’s deterioration wasn’t only her responsibility as a mentally unstable individual someone should have done something they waited until the smell was too strong to ignore that’s literally the worst case scenario for someone like Lee it’s even worse that they knew a child was actively living in that house. That’s what neighbour’s are supposed to be, her neighbour’s completely failed her and her poor son. He developed all types of toxic attributes because of her including “toxic empathy” .. she was clearly incapable of making sound mind decisions due to her severe OCD and psychopathic tendencies. It’s a miracle this boy was even saved!

I just feel like Korean people in charge of all the Korean crimes lacks sympathy and doesn't have the human instinct of seeing the crimes from the victims perspective. I have watch so many documents and 9.9 out of 10 did not serve Justice. The Korean school bullies cases were so extremely inhumane and they didn't even get life sentence. Im so mad that they think criminal's future is more important than the victims. They protect their identity and let them out in the world like They're just endangering the other citizens. You don't know your neighbor, coworker, friend , nurse or even doctors could be a murderer. That's so scary.

Sometimes I feel South Korea as a whole is a very depressed society. The fact that they don't care about a crying child in a god awful smelly house until it starts becoming too much to ignore. The fact that two whole people with families disappear and nobody reports them missing and try to find them. The woman is literally insane and nobody in her family or coworkers notice and try to get her help. It makes me really sad.

Trust me, I live in California, and our family fights are insane, police comes at least once a week, and my dad and mom, and sometimes brother is constantly yelling and swearing at each other. They've (prideminetly my brother) broken cars, windows, and house wooden walls. Do you think a neighbor comes checking if I am okay? No. the neighbors ignore me, and their children are scared to acknowledge me. Which is understandable, what are they gonna do? call the police? Like I told you before, police comes every single week, multiple times a week, usually my brother or mom is the one to call them. But when the police comes, obviously they are going to stop screaming, and act calm, my mom usually blocks us from saying something and goes forward to say it was just a family fight and its all solved now, and that shes sorry for wasting their time. They always say if this happens one more time, they have to arrest and ask questions in the department but that never happens. They know my faces, and I know their names but they don't do anything.

The justice system in east Asian countries usually is very bad. I think Japan has it the worst.
Another reason Chiho’s eyes could be bluish white is iron deficiency, most likely from how little protein or meat he was able to eat while by himself, being unable to cook.

I feel so bad for the child, especially since we’re the same age. At 17 your childhood is still very easily recalled and it makes up most of who you are. I can’t imagine going through that all alone. I really hope that he has been able to or is working through the trauma well. Wherever he is now, I hope he’s healthy and doing well surrounded by caring people.

Korea has one of the worst legal system. For context here is an even worse instance of this:

Na-young underwent eight hours of surgery due to Cho’s violence but the rape and torture left around 80 percent of her lower organs completely dysfunctional.
Cho was given 12 years in prison and mandated that he wear an electronic anklet for an additional seven years - a sentence that took into account the defense’s argument that Cho was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the crime."

I can understand that a son would help his mom hide his dad's body. We don't know what this woman was like or what it was like to be her child. Seventeen years is a long time to be under someone's influence.

Life in the US is 15 - 30 years. So technically speaking / legally speaking that is "life".
The maximum setance in many countries is 20 years so that most likely is the maximum sentance.

There was actually a very similar case in Poland in 2003, city called Łódź. Police found 4 kids in huge barrels for pickling cabbage. 😢😢😢

I'm on 9 minutes into the video but the mention of the kid being left home reminds me of my 3 cousins. Their mom would leave them for weeks at a time while she was off doing drugs or with men or both. Their grandparents, my great aunt and uncle, would get a call from random neighbors or just people who lived near them (we grew up in a small town and they lived in the middle of the country in whatever house their mom shared with whatever man she was with at the time) and they'd say "We haven't seen their mom in a few days or whatever, so you might want to come get them." and the grandparents would go get them and bathe and feed them until she came back. Once she was gone for EIGHT MONTHS and apparently the kids never asked where their mother was. My family ALWAYS talked shit about their mother and how awful she was but NO ONE ever said anything about their dad who was paying child support and KNEW how his kids was being treated but never ONCE wanted custody of them. Years later, when the youngest two were in middle and high school, their mom lost custody of them. Their dad still didn't want them and his mom (the grandparent that was coming to get them every time) was the one who got custody of them. As I got older I always wondered why it was "okay" to talk crap about their mom but not their dad. Obviously the answer is, the dad was family but that's a shitty reason. If anything I blame him more because he was raised well. The mother wasn't. Her own mom was gone a lot and "liked men", shall we say. Their mom's oldest sister was pregnant for the first time at 12 and the father was 19 or so. When their mother found out, her response was "You better marry him! I don't allow WHORES in my house". The mom was living with a grown man (like 25 or 30) when she was 15 years old. In contrast the father of my cousins grew up in a 2 parent household with a younger brother. Both parents worked and were pretty normal. Anyway, I always thought it was pretty messed up that she was bad for what she did but not him.

I hope her last boyfriend is able to move on and cope well from this. He probably connected the dots after the first police visit and thought that if she knew he knew her secret, he would be the next victim. So glad the police came back so soon, he was probably living in fear
My son is 9 year old. The thought of a child even younger being stuck in that awful place all by himself, crying as loud as he could surrounded by filth and horrible stench makes me tear up... He just wanted his mom but unfortunately she never deserved him to begin with...

And you know what? I knew this one kid's who got prison by his parents. He NEVER go to school, because HELL, he didn't even have birth certificate. I think, he is around 9 or 10 years old right now? His parents never really GET HIM OUT TO SUNLIGHT.
EVERYDAY, he would just scream behind the grails/gates (not the front gates, the door gates) trying to talked to the neighbors. Because he had no one to talked to at home? And his parents RARELY even at homes.
SO. TO. MAKE. IT. SHORT. He got IMPRISONED EVERY SINGLE DAY. And got no future. And it makes me so... Sad. AND SICK.

it seems wrong that the court only seemed to really focus on the murders and not the fact that she abused her son and left him alone days on end it seems in a gross apartment with no food and two dead bodies. not that the murder isn't important but its weird that they almost skipped over that part. i hope that the son can live a normal life away from her.
you are totally valid. i have never been frustrated than this before, the case has so much more to dig in, and this is more that just a two man who had been murdered. we have the brother who witnessed 2 people dying. at 17 the brother is at his right age to know exactly what is right and wrong or even just the basic humanity. now, 27y.o? that grown man must have psychophatic tendencies
and could potentially develop some mental disorder at this point. isn't that alarming? how he live his life like nothing happen? now we also have the younger brother that has been emotionally and physically abandoned at the very young age and had suffer for all those years. i am not saying that what his brother had experience is invalid but how could an 8 year old boy possibly know how to cope from the situation he had been, or to know what the hell is right or wrong when there is a possibility that he also witnessed the crime of his mom. i couldn't imagine how an 8 year old boy that hasn't been nurture in every aspect to live his life after everything he had gone through. they could have also investigated what the mom has did to that child for all those years bc there is nothing good will happen in the child's life if he will not be nurture in every aspect of the people who are going to help him and by helping a child is know everything he had been through.
Ignoring child abuse should never be this normalised and called ‘culture’, I love Korea but this is just sad how nobody did anything until the child kept screaming and crying, only to get rid of that annoying voice not to really help him. Sad. I’m from Middle East and many people sadly have the same attitude of ‘not my life, I wouldn’t middle in’ like no, you should middle in.
I remember the time I made a report to CPS. The fighting was just annoying at first. A teenager dealing with mental illness and a mom struggling to keep things together. But there was a man involved and all kinds of stuff I don't care to get into, so I decided I should probably at least make a report. I was checking to see if I could do it online (since it was the middle of the night) and the website was so poorly optimized. I remember thinking I was just going to give up because it was too much of a hassle, and right afterward I was so disgusted with myself. I was going to put my convenience over the possible safety of a child? I made the report and they were checked on. Don't know if anything came of it, but at least I can sleep at night knowing I did the only thing any half decent human being would do.

Just her explaining the smell of a human corpse and the insides of the kimchi made me want to cry, I don’t understand how the child survived with that smell and bugs in there.

For heinous crime like this, and the fact the she kept the body as a trophy or whatever with her for 10years, didn't dump it somewhere to be discovered, didn't bury it etc...she kept it with her....how can high court give her less than what the prosecution is asking? My boyfriend has the Korean mind your business mentality and he is white as snow, as for me, I’m Korean American and I’m always panicked when I hear children or women crying/screaming. It’s shocking how living situations can change how certain people should be programmed to think.

Even in my neighbourhood a last V threw acid on my other neighbors who they were super close with all because she was jealous of the new Jewllery she had. The woman is 73 as well. My god this is terrible on so many counts. I hope Ji ho would forget all of this pain and grow away from this trauma.

She should’ve been charged with 2 murders , child neglect/ abuse, and there has to be a charge for her impersonating her dead husband, not reporting his death, and also mistreating his dead body. I like when true crime CZcamsrs actually describe the whole crime and how the killing actually happened, even if it’s gruesome. It’s easier to imagine what happened and feel more sorry for the victims tbh idk how to explain💀

This woman is a serial killer. She has a ritual she repeats. She will do this again, ergo she needs capital treatment. No punishment should last 20 years or longer on the taxpayer's dime. If a crime is so severe as to warrant a life sentence, then take that life. In this case, this absolutely should have applied.

This is one of the most bizarre cases I have ever heard of.
I feel so freaking sorry for the little kid, imagine the neighbors that lived above and bellow the apartment can't take the smell, but the kid LIVED in that apartment. She should have been sentenced for life for what she did to the kid. She is not someone to be let out to live among the people, she belongs in jail until the day she dies or she will murder again in cold blood.
The neighbours are really weird too. You hear a child crying everyday from an apartment that smells like hell and you only call help when the child's crying becomes too unbearable for YOU that you cannot cover with tv noise.

Hoarding disorder is usually tied to severe depression, OCD and psychotic disorders including schizophrenia. In Lee’s case HD plays a huge part in Lee’s horrible decision making. The fact she chose to hoard her late husband’s body who ‘allegedly’ died of natural causes in the house instead of bury him for 10+ years while her son knew about it and accepted it, is solid evidence to the deterioration of her mental disorders and how that deeply affected her son’s brain functions and development of his Non toxic empathy skills and instead created deeply rooted trauma and “Toxic empathy” which is known to occur when a person tends to over empathise with others, which can lead to feelings of stress, anxiety, continues distrustful behaviour and exhaustion, signs of toxic empathy include feeling drained after social interactions, having difficulty setting boundaries, and feeling others pain as our own which were all struggles that Lee’s Son faced because of her inability to acquire mental health assistance instead of giving in to all her darkest fears and destructive thoughts. I personally don’t know if her husband died of natural causes or not because she seemed to have exchanged blame with him over the death of their 2nd son in 1995 so who knows maybe she drove him to suicide, poisoned him or maybe it’s like the son said natural causes and she just couldn’t bare part from his body due to her severe case of hoarding disorder which is could very likely be the scenario here. Either way this is quite a sad case and i wish Lee gotten help before it’s too late, the son barely survived his mother and now left with trauma for life i wish him and all the victims families peace and hope this serves as a lesson to engage critical thinking and self reflection as well as seek mental health support from family and friends and even neighbours if you’re unable to provide medical help for yourself there are many mental health services available in our current day and age, they exist to provide assistance when needs be so allow them to help most importantly please never ignore your mental health state as it’s the foundation of all our thoughts, actions and physical health - on a more personal note, i myself suffered a mild case of hoarding in 2011 i remember it very clearly i was going through a depressive state of mind for 2 weeks during a yearly memorial of my best friend’s passing m, it was and still very challenging each year but this particular time it hit me harder due to other factors back then all of which i recognised as a very serious symptoms of depression and since then i tried to become very conscious of my intrusive thinking and even started digging at the root causes and that lead me to self exploring which lead to full on studying neurobiology “female brain activity” which i was awarded a master’s degree for by HMX this year .. this was the 3rd academic degree for me as my first and 2nd were in business management, innovational strategy and leadership. I mainly decided to study neurobiology to understand how my brain operates on a deeper level as it’s the most powerful tool in the human arsenal a side from the other perceived understanding that “shame” is considered by most to be the most effective tool, and even though it wasn’t for academia at first for me it definitely didn’t hurt to obtain qualifications along the way and even now as a private chef de cuisine, recipe developer and food & beverage service owner but most importantly i would say it probably saved me from long term suffering trying to understand why i feel, act and think the way i do and process it all with accurate understanding and if i may i add, if you happen to be reading this and wondering .. you don’t need a degree whatsoever to know more about your own brain chemistry and the difference between male and female brain activity to do that you just need to read more about the subject, not only does regular reading help make you smarter, but it can also actually increase your brainpower. Just like going for a jog exercises our cardiovascular system, reading regularly improves memory function by giving our brain a good workout, allow yourself to get curious and think of research as a way of life, believe in your abilities to self control and develop healthy critical thinking paradigms to help you develop healthier skills and gradually the dark intrusive thoughts will work themselves out as the increase of knowledge levels provides a grasp over our own neurological maps

You helped be to understand what I went through in the late 90s.. Call me weird but I've always enjoyed cleaning and found it relaxing but after a series of negative intense events plus having flashbacks from early childhoods that I didn't know existed until i had them I became incapable of cleaning to the point of immobility at one point. Through perseverance, hardwood, antidepressants, and God I finally made it out of that darkness. Today I have peace of mind and I am content with who I am and what I have and have not.

I went camping the other day, and yes, we didn’t know that Hurricane Hillary was going to touch down here in SOCAL. I downloaded a bunch of rotten mango podcasts and we were all huddled up in our RV and watching and listening to you at night. We had to cut our camping short because of the storm, but that’s ok. You made us entertained. Thank you!

The reason was the rest of our neighbors had tent and we mainly used the RV as our restroom because we did have older people and the bathrooms were near, but far for the elderly people. We cooked outside, played games, but my family slept in the RV, while our neighbors slept in the tent.

Stephanie! I have a possible explanation for the blue eye detail. The part behind the white in your eyes is a dark blue, but usually you can't see it because the white skin is thick enough. I have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and that causes my eyes to be a slightly blue tint. It does seem as though his is most likely genetic but could also be much more vibrant just due to his lack of nutrients!

My friend from college was Korean, and his parents owned a restaurant / Bodega in Queens. His mom made the best Kimchi I had ever had, and was so tickled that I liked it so much that every time he went home, she made sure to send some with him for me. I think he cursed me in his head every time he had to ride the subway with it. 😁
