I think the biggest selling point for magnetic charging cables is you can leave the small plug in your device, reducing the number of times you connect and remove the charger from the port, reducing wear in your device.
I had the first version of this cable. It only worked for a day and then somehow died. I hope they've improved it in this new version.
I love it when you're researching a purchase, and one of your favorite youtube channels that you know you can trust has already done the research for you.
This is actually the best product ive seen on the internet any time recently that i want.
With this and the clever cable with oled it would be a pimped out charging setup
+RandomAccessVideo hold on an OLED cable?!
Like, a cable with a tiny OLED screen on it? Christ that is pimped out xD
RandomAccessVideo what's the name of this cable? I searched 'clever charging cable + oled' nothing came up.
Yes, as I bought it from amazon before, and tested its magnetic, it showed that magnetic strong, but can not pull out use too hard. As this mini2 cable I tested it many times and easy to use, and I found a good price on other links: www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDP16F9. Any body if find it can be helpful for you, you can buy it test.
I want to buy more adapters in the future.
I really love this idea. the reason I'll be buying it is to eliminate damaging the jack in my phone/tablet. I tend to use my devices with them plugged in and am always bending the cable end and have broken the jack in my tablet. Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention!
Thank you for introducing me to this type of product. I think that it will help with a problem that I have. With more than 60% hearing loss, I use headphones. A lot of headphones. After replacing them a few times per year, I happened upon Bluetooth headphones without the breakable cables. However, the BT sets are not without problems. Since I need to charge them daily there is noticeable wear on the micro USB connector. I believe that the magnetic coupling can help solve my problem. Testing will tell. Thanks again, Cherry
Update: I received my three WSKEN Mini 2 kits. I inserted a plugs into two headphones and one into the phone. The three kits allow me to have a cable for my charging station at my desk, one for my car and one for work. I do love the way that the cable magically (magnetically) snaps onto the device.
The only problem so far was that one of plugs was very loose in one of the headphones with a worn USB socket. I made a fix with a couple of tiny dots of hot melt glue to help keep the plug anchored in place. The glue is only on the surface surrounding the USB socket and is hidden by the flange on the plug.
Thank you again for introducing this product to me.
4:17 to solve the protrusion, buy a case that matches and is flush with the bottom.
Good idea!
how can i solve the protrusion i get in me trousers every time a watch a techymoan video?
Solution, watch techmoan instead of techymoan. You won't get any protrusion but your wallet might get more limp

I ended up buying two of these, both with Lightning and Micro USB connectors. Magic! Such a great idea, and I wouldn't have known about this unless I was (somewhat obsessively) watching your videos. Thanks so much.
Just want to thank you for putting region-specific links, very thoughtful. :)
I use this device myself but not because it's easier or more convenient, it's NOT. I bought mine for 3 reasons based on phone PROTECTION which weren't even considered in this video.
1.it is permanently in the charging socket keeping dirt out
2.you aren't wearing out the connection in your phone every time you charge it
3.if you catch the wire it just pops off instead of damaging the connection or pulling your phone onto the floor.
please take a look at these again as I think you just reviewed them as a novelty and missed the point. I love the channel as you give things a pretty balanced review with a light hearted tone and plain English not teccy babble. keep up the good work 👍
Missed out on a good Star Wars reference at 3:54!
That was a Star Wars reference.
Ya gotta wake up pretty early to beat the Techmoan man!!!!! New super hero. Faster than a 33 LP....Smarter than Curta calculator , and brighter than a captain TOAD figurine lamp. LOL
I'm a giant fan, Han shot first and everything, but I didn't catch it. What is it?

After seeing this weeks ago, I immediately ordered 3 of the WSKEN Mini 2 (micro usb). They arrived yesterday and one is now fitted to my young daughter's tablet. She's constantly on it (as all kids today seem to be interfaced to a digital device) and not too careful plugging in the charging lead. These are great for protecting the device sockets thus an expensive repair. Recommended. Be aware it takes around 3 and a half weeks to get from China to the UK with the links supplied. Thank you Mr Techmoan!
Two years old, but I'm just now catching up on my Techmoan, I'd use these for around the desk, likely not leave it on the phone when going about with it. I wouldn't had I not seen one work as well as the WSKEN. I know Techmoan doesn't read old comments nor would I expect him to, but ...thanks all the same. Good man, good channel. Good puppets even, I think they're a bit underrated.
I've own this type of cable since about 4 years now, definitely best cables I've ever had, I honestly bought about 15 cables, about half I gave them away to my parents, rest of them are all over my house, car, work, backpack, bicycle... Lately I've had the adaptors to fail, after constantly use, eventually worn out, I just got so surprised when I find out that the cables are so damn expensive now! Almost $20 for 1 cable... I've bought mine if I remember correctly 5 cables with 10 adaptors for about $60. For some reason they are selling them with two adaptors 1 USB and the other one iPhone... That's just stupid. Anyway, I've seen cables for about $4 now, I am definitely going to try that out. Maybe by now the cheaper one got better.
I'll be interested to see your wireless charging reviews, especially for iPhone. I'm sure apple will introduce wireless charging as the 'new' thing on the iPhone 7, lol.
>2 years later
>you were basically fucking right, but wireless charging is seen differently
I bought the wsken micro USB version based on this review, and I am very happy with it. Thanks!
I got the WSKEN Mini (USB-C), it arrived today as I got it from eBay. It's pretty good and fits only one way as the magnetic fields keep it oriented only one way. I thought I'd have problems with the connector fitting though my hard case but it fits great. Nice! :)

Thank you for testing these out. Found your video through a unhappy Znaps backer reddit page. I love your idea of using these for quick release charging for dash cams. That idea carries over to a few other devices that I can think of.
Congrats on 300,000 Subs!

+Techmoan did you ever get one of those cpl stickers for the ddpai m6 plus ?? if so did you find it did the job or not ?
I did and it works - I need to take the car out at night to see if it affects the night time quality though - then I should make a short follow-up video.
Excellent thanks for the reply , will be waiting to see the follow up video. Great recommendation too , I bought one because of your video and I could not be happier with it. So thanks :)

Congrats on 300.000 subs. :)
This was a thorough review. Thank you.
WSken is good it would be amazing if it the connector was symmectrical so that it would not matter which way you connect it.
Pro Tip : these cables are AMAZING for headset power. No more breaking headset OR computer when standing up forgetting headset power cable was connected.
Ooh, yeah I never thought about that for headphones!
The magnets click in one way only and they're strong enough to pull in the right way :)
you missed one of the important parts which is whteher the magnets can hold the phone if you hang it in mid air (or if it falls of your table, whether it disconects and hits the ground or not)
it will
it will hold or disconnect? are all of them the same strenght?
Hopefully it disconnects. That's half the point of the magnetic connectors. Rather a bounce than tearing out the USB connector from the phone.
Well I do hope you buy a phone above 20 bucks if you want to have a phone that doesn't rip its own USB connector out once it hangs from the charging lead. I love having a connector that can save my phone from falling from the nightstand because I pull on the cable by accident. Rather than it ripping the phone from the stand without the cable on it and it dropping to it's death I rather have my phone hanging just above the ground, if I were at all lucky.
A phone with a magnetic connector that's faced away from the way the cable pulls will still get thrown off of the nightstand. Heavier phones will still disconnect unless you have some kind of super-locking connector.
Falling isn't such a big deal. Tripping on the cable can really tear at the connector though.
Reducing damage to the devices' connector is the whole reason Apple invented Magsafe.
Thanks for the quick comparison, I didn't even know these were a thing until now and now I own a few. ;)
Much obliged! Short, filler-free, and informative.
The reason I use these is simply to save the charging port on my phones. My sockets tend to last about 1.5 years before they become troublesome, but by using these connectors the sockets never degrade, plus they are sealed and dont get dirty.
I find the best ones are actually just adapters that go on the end of your existing charging cable, so they are quite cheap, and its easy to replace the cable if its damaged (just get another cable from the nearest supermarket/service station if you need one immediately, rather than waiting for shipping).\
Problems Ive had are that the magnets can break apart, and if you do any metalwork and arent careful you may get a bunch of metal filings stuck in/on them
What do you look up on Google to find the ones that specifically go on top of existing chargers?
The only issue I personally found by using these magnetic chargers is 1 they seem to be get weak over time and 2 if you trying to use a phone and charge at the same time they tend to become detached quite easily
🔵 Did you experience this with the 'WSKEN' particularly?.......
Or are you talking about magnetic cable couplers in general?
I have several Wsken cables. Highly recommended. Very good quality, fantastic magnets and rapid charges my Pixel. 10/10!
I didn't know I needed one of these... Now I have to go buy one thank you!
Hi Technoman!
i have one question: won't the magnet that remains in the phone mess up with the internal compass or accelerometer?
Can you suggest a simple check I can do in the house that would test this out...I'm not sure how I'd know.
For the compass i guess you could just check if it points the North correcly with or without the plug.. or if the app just goes into calibration screen.
the accelerometers instead should be checked with some 360° images or maybe some other app\game..
Thanks for your videos tho =) Big fan!
OK, I've just checked the compass - when plugging or unplugging the adaptor from the port the compass doesn't change by a single degree (the magnet has no effect at all). I then tried the Ricoh Theta app to review some of my 360º images in VR mode...and they work perfectly. So from those tests I've got to say that the magnet(s) have no negative impact on an iPhone 6+.
Thank you :)
Please keep in mind, that the compass only takes one measurement and from then on uses the accelerometer. If you want to try the influence of the plug you would have to wait until it calibrates again. Which it doesn't indicate...
I didn't even know that something like this existed
Apple invented it. It's called the MagSafe connector and it's used on all their MacBooks..
Actually...deep fryers invented it decades ago, before Apple, a magnetic detachable safety power adapter.
your reviews are super helpful
Great production again - as always! Thumbs up! ;-)

The coins is the UK are magnetic?
The "Copper" ones are, as their weight in copper is more then their value
you guys still have copper coins. We got rid of 1 an 2 cent coins years ago. Nobody misses them filling up their ashtrays anymore.
***** Yeah I'm in Australia. They were phased out because they cost more to make than their face value at the time. Ironically several yrs later as copper prices rose they became more valuable.
Adding to what others have said, the 1p and 2p 'copper' coins have been copper-plated steel since 1992 (technically they were actually bronze) and the 5p & 10p 'silver' coins changed from cupro-nickel to nickel-plated steel in 2011. All types remain in circulation.
Australia does do a fair amount of sensible things in every imaginable vein, far before (or if ever) anyone else.
Hey thanks for doing the research for us! I was just about to buy a third and fourth cable to try out, but you beat me to it! Looks like the sweetlf or whatever it was will be what I go and buy a bunch of. I'm not afraid to hack things into my tablet (just jerry-rigged a wireless charger into some spare space under the case) so I might fit the reciever into the side of the tablet and recess it a little bit.
Great video I appreciate you explaining each cable
He sounds like James May :0
Wouldn't this device prevent the compass in your phone from working properly? Wouldn't that affect satnav applications?
OK, I've just checked the compass - when plugging or unplugging the adaptor from the port the compass doesn't change by a single degree (the magnet has no effect at all). I then tried the Ricoh Theta app to review some of my 360º images in VR mode...and they work perfectly. So from those tests I've got to say that the magnet(s) have no negative impact on an iPhone 6+.
both
you said this would work for a iPhone 6 and up but will it work for older models i have a iPhone 5 but uses the concretion but i want to make sure on this
I bought this cable based on this video. Love it!! Bought it on Amazon and made sure it was fulfilled by Antau (anybody else and it's a knockoff). Thanks for doing this video. Made it easier to find the right cable on the first purchase 😊
this is actually super helpful for me.my phone case has a rubber cover for the usb port and the port is so recessed that I can't plug the cable in without scratching the phone in the progress. now I'll plug it in normally and won't see the plug anyway because of the cover my case has. WIN/WIN
I just realized this video is made by techmoan
what's the advantage of the braided cable?
Helps prevent tangling. If you ever get any braided cables you won't want to get non-braided again.

I'd been trying to find a good magnetic cable for my android devices. This one works great, have ordered two more.
🔵 Which one are you referring to?
Thanks for the review! Very helpful in making a decision.
Strange they didn't make the magnetic lightning cable reversible, seeing as it's a feature of the normal lightning connector.
I am guessing it has to do with the magnets they used, certain shapes make for different poles and thus will result in the plug not being able to connect.
There are 2 pins on one side and 3 pins on the other side. So if you reverse it they don't match.
Check out a cable called znaps. It's still in Kickstarter but they iron out all issues like that.
There are reversible magnetic connectors. This one just isn't.
I backed the ZNAPS project. I'm hoping to see mine soon. They had production issues which delayed the final product but from their update emails, they seem to really be working hard to ship out a solid product.
But I thought your name was Technoman. My life is a lie.

This is fantastic - i've busted 3 usb cables to date by forgetting the phone was plugged in and picking it up too abruptly. hopefully this will save me buying any more cords :)
I use a wsken cable for my xperia z1 with its built in magnetic charging port and it works quiet nicely.
they should make this standard on all phones by default. the magnet should be inside the phone and the cable provided should also work accordingly.
Why? It's only really good for laptops as it comes out too easily when you're using your phone on charge. I could see it being on the iPad Pro... Someone make a smart connector charger
in that case, they should make it in a way so they don't come out so easily.weeowey
they are on laptops because the idea is, if you have the cord stringed across a walkway, and someone trips on it, it doesn't take the whole laptop with it
by*
I need this not because it's more convenient, it's because my charger cable tip always breaks off.
Jeff Hg wtf you must be a rough guy 😶
Jeff Hg i was considering buying one for the same reason, how did it work for you?
Not necessarily rough. I had a galaxy S5 for 3 years and would still be using it today had the connection tab inside the phone break loose. Considering getting this for my new phone to also block dust.
300,000 subscribers - well done :-)
HI. Thanks for this.
The Wsken Mini 2 is brilliant - the only one that works. Here's a tip, though: When not in use, store the cable with its magnetic end "stuck" to the metal of the USB connector end so it doesn't pick up stray bits of ferrous dust or other metallic pieces that might short out the cable. (Remember trying to remove iron filings from a magnet at school?)
2022 update plzz
never trust cables with a braided cover, 99% chance it's just covering up the cheapest cable they could find.
True
The braided cable I have has lasted far longer than the crappy one that came with my phone.
Always suspected that, truly did, but never bothered to google the subject, etc. Ever cut some to see? Or see anyone do so? At this point I could have google that query, and this is ....2 years old. Good point all the same, mipmipmipmipmip.
Literally any cable is better than an Apple cable.
Some of the highest quality cables have been braided. 99% is total FUD. If you buy cheap you get cheap.
I'm using a WSKEN magnetic cable for my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact since 2 years now. Couldn't be happier with that thing, the magnet is strong yet it doesn't feel like it would break the magnetic connector on my phone (like cheaper ones actually do). Although the brand is not very well known, I can HIGHLY recommend buying their products!!
I highly agree, I bought a WSKEN for my Xperia after one of my friend showed me one for his phone.
Well spend money.
link?
I know this video caters specifically to the iPhone/Lightning cables, but the Sony Xperia devices have long featured magnetic connectors which can be used to charge the phone, albeit lacking data transfer capabilities. Very handy for plugging your phone in in the dark and useful for when you snag the cable..
Wait, Apple has not only made a needless proprietary version of a USB cable, but they also have device recognition for it?
Jee-zus, man, here I was thinking I'd settle for an iphone if it came with a decent plan, but naw, that's alright, I'll take literally any android phone ever made - heck, I might spring for those silly Ubuntu phones they make now. Or downgrade to my half-broken HTC EVO...
That's actually not that uncommon. Lots of devices will complain if they don't detect an adequate charger - and Dell used to sell laptops that wouldn't even charge if they didn't have an official charger.
***** Eh, I suppose Apple's not the only offender. I can't recall and specifics but I have owned lots of stuff that's pretty proprietary. Hell, I've had SOFTWARE that didn't run without a piece of gear plugged in - and this wasn't some security device for encrypted data management or anything, just two DAWs. One just had a dongle, but the other had an entire proprietary interface that it supposedly needed the on-board hardware to do magical things only ProTools could do - even though any investigation of it proved it to literally just be an ordinary middle-of-the-road i/o with no other out of the ordinary hardware. Either way, program wouldn't boot unless you had their special expensive blue box plugged in.
So in the end I guess it's just Apple stealing yet another old idea! *badum-tiss*
TheRev The Dell laptops in question often used the PA-9 or PA-12 chargers, and were from the Pentium M era. Historically in fact, Dell have pulled more proprietary shenanigans than Apple!
*****
Only Dell product I own is the keyboard I picked up at a thrift store...
lightning cables are reversable tho, pretty nifty. Altho it doesn't help in the dark since you still need to find the port anyway lol apple should just make em magnetic duh why they havent is beyond me, it works great on my macbook
I'd rather not have the exposed pins rolling around in my pocket with car keys and change. It's a shame they didn't put the recessed end on the phone and the other end on the cable.
yes, good point indeed.
Tip: Put your phone in a pocket that doesn't have abrasives in it. The very idea of having my keys in my phone pocket makes me cringe.
Some people actually use their phones in everyday life. Mine will be exposed to grit, dirt, fiberglass insulation, plaster, etc. AND be stuck in a pocket, thrown on car seats, etc. In normal use. If it can't survive that for a reasonable length of time, it's not suitable for its intended purpose.
And I am not asking the impossible. My nokia 5800 xpressmusic lasted 7 yrs with just one new screen
Or just get a flip-top phone cover for a fiver.
As far as I know, iPhones don't support OTG and thus don't provide power out of the lightning connector all the time, so this shouldn't be an issue.
I have been using magnetic cables from Volta, and they are the best I could try! They recently released a 2.0, which fix most problems the other ones had. The magnets join up perfectly, the tips aren't too thick, are reversible, and you can buy separate USB C, Micro USB and Lightning (by the way, Lightning is using a USB standard, no need to separate it from the rest in the video intro) and use the same cable for all the devices you have. The cables are really strong and have an LED. I know it looks like I am promoting these cables, but these are definitely the best cables I could try!
Better than the ones he suggested?
Huh, I was thinking about buying one of these cables but I didn't know there could be issues. I'm sure glad I watched this vid. Thanks.
now find a type c one
I really hope they make one. If I were to get the new MacBook Pro this would be the first thing I buy for it.
why buy apples worst ever laptop its like iPhone 7 lost and both will be remembered for poor products
I hear ya dude. Apple products are shit
Moizen has a USB C cables they are very durable. I'm using my cable for 8 months now and still like new and it's 7 dollars (shipping included) www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_598446.html?vip=1300797
Topk cables from aliexpress, all versions- micro, C and lightning.
I Just want a Micro USB connection that is reliable for more than a month.
Micro USB 2.0 can't die soon enough.
Thanks for the video, I was unaware of the usb magnetic adapters, and after watching this, I've just ordered one. My seven year old son was regularly trips over his ps4 controller while it's charging, ripping the lead out of the controller end. Hopefully with this it should just separate, saving me £40 on a new controller for him.
I have owned only two different smartphones and the first thing to fail on both of them was the micro USB. This might solve the problem in any future phones I have! Thanks for the video, I had no idea these existed!
All cable that aren't made by Apple are wrong! The ghost of Steve Jobs will haunt you!
Given the scares we've had with dodgy USB-C cables recently I'd have to say that Apple's probably got the right idea certifying Lightning cables.
Your not wrong there cheaper micro usb cables can mess about with charging times
I think that's a byproduct of higher charge currents and the current proliferation of really shite grade cable made from plated [whatever metal was cheap at shenzen market this week]
USB-IF is following Apple, now there will be certified USB-C cable.
Yes, but imho I think they might have instituted that a little bit too late. Plenty of spec-compliant USB-C cables already on the market that won't read as certified whenever the cert spec comes out.
Then again, the bigger problem seems to be the two largest phone vendors sticking with inferior proprietary or obsolete connectors in the name of accessory compatibility. Everything is still micro-B or Lightning and using a Type-C phone (Nexus 6P) makes you really feel like you've gone back to the days of proprietary chargers and having to carry your own wires around everywhere.
***** Going to assume you mean that copper-clad aluminium garbage that you see as really cheap bulk Ethernet cable sometimes?
I have two words that will blow your mind: Wireless Charging...
Which the sheep.. i mean fanboys .. .i mean apple owners would be more than happy to pay out ridiculous sums of money for
I would like to charge my phone wherever I am.
Two words for you: Wasted Energy
Not possible with phones with a metal back..
and you dont get data transfer.
they cant make it magically different so that no one can copy it. someone just has to measure the frequency of their wireless charger and china will do the job.
but they wont do it because it has a metal case.
I'm using the Moizen M2 Magnetic cable and it have also on both sides a magnet and you can put the cable on both sides to the "stick" and it works very well. The cable is a few years old and now they have the Moizon M5 magnetic cable and with it comes one usb-c, one micro-usb and one lightning "stick".
I didn't know i needed this till i saw this video thanks 👍 .
lol apple sheeps trying hard to get wireless charger xD
Just go wireless ,oh forgot Apple dont do that yet ,they are a couple of years behind
I do sometimes, I have the chargers, but wireless is very inefficient. If everyone was using wireless to charge their phones, the world would get through a hell of a lot more power dumped as heat. In my measurements, a Qi charger is only about 50% efficient. So it's dumping 2.8*5 = 13 watt hours of power for every charge. Multiply by a billion or so phones, every day.
True but i would of thought that you loos some charging amps through these magnetic cable. It amazing how cheap usb cables effect charging time
They'll then patent it and sue everyone else.
It still uses electrical connections. The magnet isn't transferring power at all, it's merely just holding metal pins together, which is the same electrical contact as the normal connector anyway. Just a different method of "holding it" in place.
Brandon MacEachern I'm sure he knows that. The point is that wireless accomplishes the same things that most people are going for with the magnetic connector - eliminate wear from plugging in and out all the time, and make it easier to plug in (just drop the phone on top of a surface for wireless.
The downside to wireless charging is that it's less efficient and it isn't as fast as plugging in.
my 2 micro usb wsken cables just arrived, working great so far! less than $9 each, not bad at all.
I bought the WSKEN one based on your video. I've had it for about a year and it's been very reliable, at least solely based on using it for charging. Haven't used it to transfer data.
do you recommend to charge ipad (usb-c) and iphone(lighting)?
Yeah yeah, nice product. But those nails man...
Raúl Méndez lol that’s kinda weird instead of focusing on the product, you’re just looking at his finger nails 😂😂😂😂
didn't even notice
man your finger nails are grosse !!
Best use I have found is when im delivering parcels, I use my phone with the delivery app on. This saves so much times when continuously plugging, unplugging my phone. Plus it saves any wear on the port.
Great review, as always! Thanks!
One question though: What is the size of the connector staying in the phone once it is inserted (Micro-USB version of WSKEN and SweetLF)? I have a silicone phone case and I am not sure if this will fit...
Thanks!
Thank you! Just got my Wsken cable for Galaxy S7, it works perfect. No more pocket lint filling my charge port.
been using my wiskin cable for the Sony Z3compact for ages...being Sony of the era, it already had the magnet connection on the phone and is flush...i love it and will miss it when i finally decide to upgrade.
More USB stuff! Thanks a bunch!
Great review as usual, thanks. I have to wonder whether the micro USB version is ok to use with Samsung's adaptive fast chargers though. The OEM plug heats up considerably when I use fast charging, so assuming it's due to a high load, won't the small contact points introduce more resistance and thus more heat? I'll be buying one anyway, but I'll definitely not be leaving it unattended until I've used it a few times to check.
This is a very interesting product. While my phone has built in inductive charging, I can easily see the use of something like a magnetic cable for other USB powered things. I don't have a dash cam but I do have this wireless motion tracking remote for my computer hooked up to the TV that could use a similar set up.
Adding this to my Christmas list
Excellent as always :)
I have one of the early edition wsken ones. The pin and pad arrangement was reversed back then and the cable caught crud easily and the neodymium magnet had a very bad coating that peeled off. They used to be like the second cable you showed.
I really enjoy the aesthetic of the old MacBook MagSafe chargers, so the fact that most of these seem to mimic that look makes me like them better than the standard Lightning-USB connector you get with an iPhone.
thanks for the video. was recently looking at these on ali express but reviews are mixed
I always thought this was to save your ports and come undone when the cable was tripped on. I never thought of this being convenient or easier.
love for providing a NL link
