- If you are a pad player I highly suggest giving this attachment a look! Its very useful for a variety of games and can make things traditionally difficult on a pad much easier.

Hey so here is my review of the PS4 back button attachment! Paid for out of my own pocket so no sponsored review or anything like that. I think if you are a pad player, this is downright decent and you should consider getting one! I show 3 example games (dbfz, tekken 7, sfv) and how the back button attachment can make your life easier in those games, on top of the actual hardware review.
You should put an affiliate link from Amazon so you can get paid for your subscribers buying this from your link.
@@odisclemons9700 I don't know much about that stuff to be honest. Its fine though if you found the review helpful one way or the other thats good enough by me 💪🐵
@@odisclemons9700 yeah I looked for a link personally
You've made me wonder now, if in Guilty Gear, could Kire-tatami be made easier for us Baiken players with this. lol Now I'm tempted.
WAIT
You mean I can have 3 SQUARE BUTTONS while playing my Goku GT/Vegito/Bardock team ? :o
woow thats just bad
I hate you.
(^o^)
One for each character, funny that
But how does it taste?
ill save that for a separate review
Snake, for the love of god...
As for whats coming up on the channel: Tomorrow Joker comes out! So expect combos/tips etc for him to come throughout the week, more videos leading up to Season 3 DBFZ hype, and who knows what else!
FINALLY was waiting for a review for this from a fighting game user :D
This DS4 design is Godlike
Glad you're making a review on this roof, I'm definitely gonna look into it, this looks like a huge quality of life change. I only play on pad, and it can be a lil difficult when playing a variety fighting games like I do right now. Thanks bud👍🏾
I picked this up, and you are 100% spot on. This device can make inputs so much easier
Absolutely getting this now!
You are the man! I have been wondering about buying one of these for a while since I just pulled a muscle playing recently (big, short fingers)
Thanks for this, buddy.
Thank you, so much for this video. I was big into fighting games before I developed a neuro disorder. I still play sometimes, but the accessibility issues make it pretty much impossible. These things are going to be a real help for me. I just wish it could manage a third input!
Yeah i'd gladly take the same device with 3 or 4 inputs, but its a start! I have a bad left wrist and it very much determines what kind of controller I play a game on(pad for some, stick for others) and this just makes a pad a strictly better tool for fighters.
Once again, a very useful video!!
Thank god, I might get this, Eliza has a back 4, special cancel forward, down, down forward, 1 cancel that is aids to do without hitting another movement button on pad, this will help me keep my thumb ready for the forward movement while I use the back pad to perform the back 4.
Roofle you are da man! Was debating picking this up for Cod and was sure if I would use it with any other games and you showed Tekken wave dashing made easy???? I’m sold picking one up after work. You da man!!!!!
Remember when people were worried about people being able to press back and forward at the same time and how it would change the way charge characters are played? Well will you look at this... :v
I bought a strike pack literally 2 weeks because these came out, and I must say I like the way I can bind multiple buttons to a paddle on the strike pack as asupposed to just the one on this
I love my Steam Controller for fighting games for this reason. Fully customizable keybindings for the entire controller (you can even bind button combinations) with the bonus of 2 buttons on the bottom of the controller. Works wonders for games like Tekken where some moves require you to hit odd combinations of buttons for a gamepad like 1+4 (X+B/Square+Circle), or 2+3 (A+Y/X+Triangle). I made a setup where I can RDC really easily and that should let me do any other move without issue.
Honestly these back buttons have been on third party controllers for a long time. Like since CoD4. They really should just be standard by now.
Also I enjoy using the touchpad since I find I can do QCFs and super jumps more easily with it compared to a gamepad's stick. Super Jump in particular goes from being a 2 action move to a 1 action move with the touch pad. Instead of pointing a joystick down then up I just swipe from the bottom of the touchpad to the top, and boom. Super Jump.
I was thinking to get it but now seen more of this. I need to have it. To improve. More in fighthing gamed not now but later
Nice video I like your review
Great Vid! Fire
Is this allowed on tournaments, asking because of the recent controversy with the modded arcade sticks with double movement buttons.
Double movement is banned, this too.
Is there a way to check if this buttons have any input delay? As it is an external accesory idk
So would it be possible for FighterZ to program just an instant air dash? Cuz to do the j66 in the air I’m not quick enough to get it constantly and the simple dash of R2 ends in accidental super dashed more often than not. If it’s possible this would be insanely useful for completing combos with a bunch of jump cancels like my boi Bardock leg loops
can it be set to forward forward in dbfz? like, to dash/run?
How do you hold your controller? With the way I hold it, my right index finger is pretty much always near R1.
Hold it on the grips. Index finger only touches r1/r2 if I need to use it, otherwise goes back down. Its why I was never a great gears of war player :-0
Wow! This really does work well for fighting games! I hope it works if I have the PS4 controller plugged into my PC. :o
it does
Sir, you have great gaming taste!
Perfect electrics here I come.
Has any tekken player uploaded it
It's banned under twt rules btw
Does anyone know if this basically gives you guarenteed otgf.
@@FrioticOfficial I can do them without it. But still want to try it for mk
I need this! I have certain games that i play a TON that wear out a certain button. (soulsborne games destroy r1) With this I might save some wear and tear. Or if I don't like a control scheme I can have that much more control.
Can you set 1 of the buttons to be a diagonal input? If so charge characters are going to be a lot easier to learn to play
I use a Power A wireless control with extra buttons on the switch port of dbfz and the way I use it is for tk motions. I make the left bumper 'up' and then I can instant jump specials.
A bit late, but my question is. Does it have any kind of socd? Wondering if you can do som hitbox style tech with these
Anything i want? Because i REALLY NEED the UP, and DOWN on D-pad to be on the back. ..THANK YOU!!! THIS ATTACHMENT IS AWESOME
Now I can actually wake up spark when I spam it instead of the game thinking I'm dragon rushing.
Or just keep it on R3 like I usually do although it is really annoying to reset it once I hit the lab.
Too bad you can't program the paddles as it's own buttons.
Why not have the spark on the touchpad? It's way easier to press than R3 or R1 & R2
@@GamerGamerAlan damn i have not thought of that
Switched to the Razer Raion but Zangief still feels weird even though the Dpad feels better. Honda feels easier but maybe with this I can use Honda on a DS4? Thanks for the thorough review!
The second they announced this accessory I thought of the hyper hop. I just can't get it consistently on pad.
It might also make it possible to do some decent Devil May Cry combos without claw grip or insanely fast finger movement. Really hope the DS5 comes with the back buttons by default.
Interesting, I might try for marvel 3 and blazblue cf
2:25
OPI? Whats that for?
Also does this work on PC?
I was thinking of using this for V-Skill usage in SFV since I have both Medium attacks on L1 & L2, which is not the best when I need it quickly. Is that a good idea?
Well it can be anything you want it to be so you can certainly use it that way.
nice brother!
I love that PS4 Fatal Fury theme but man Mai looks so out of place lol. Great vid! As a pad player this seems absolutely worth it.
I think the Garou one is much cleaner, myself.
I would love one of these but at the moment I already have like 8 controllers I use, just got a new one, which I love. I'll wait a while before I get one of these. I would be using it 100% for teching DR.
I know alot of ppl complain about blocking in fighterz, I'm wondering if you map the buttons to Back and Down to make blocking better maybe idk? il have to test myself because blocking for me in this game seems hella fail compared to games with a dedicated block button like mk11
I'm a year or 2 late to this I know, but out of curiosity are back buttons tournament legal? I know macros doing something like DP input or having a electric wind god fist on one button is illegal, but are extra back buttons for single inputs legal?
I wonder what will happen to the use of controller charging docs/stations if Ps5 controllers come out with this mechanism built in..hopefully it’ll be removable
Thanks for the review! Do you think this could be useful for making IADs in DBFZ easier? Could you set it to ^ + > or does it just do a single direction?
I’m pretty sure they go a single direction.
nice, Imma use it for backdashing
this could really help for command grabs in mk11. also found those hard to input but with this I can just input bf and d on this thing.
Using this, can you hold it via a back or whatever for a charge character while doing other stuff?
Yes but keep in mind this counts just the same as you holding back on dpad. If you try to hold back and then do any forward movement, the back input will cease and go away.
From the moment I saw these awhile back I thought that might really be something to help Cody pad players (all 5 of them)...making Zonk/EX charge far less cumbersome
Wait, have I been doing the instant airdash wrong where I just jump forward R2? Is there a better / safer tech for it, cuz I do screw it up and turn it into the R2 Homing dash a lot.
That does sound pretty risky.
I flick the stick diagonally for the initial jump then end on the forward button for the dash. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
@@OssaCantavit If I'm playing on the D pad do you think I could just click at the 9 and move the 6 after for a similar result as the flick?
I just use a Hori Fighting Commander pad. $29.99 on Amazon. Six buttons on the face and four on top with a d-pad only. It's better than DS4. Can also set turbo buttons.
Its absolutely not better than the ds4. Cheaply made with poor Dpad. I have already broken 2 of them, never again. Base DS4 controller is much better.
@@rooflemonger maybe not as durable, but I've had mine for 2 years now with no problems. You sure you weren't losing matches and throwing the controller? Lol
Hey I wanna learn DBZ but I don't know where to begin what do you suggest I learn first??
Check my playlists! I have made many videos covering the basics of DBFZ when the game originally came out.
Quick question, is it allowed on tournaments for using this back attachment?
I think it's banned under capcom cup Pro tour rules but I don't know other than that
Can it do movements like up right too? 7 9 1 3 basically
Sadly you cannot program diagonals into it. Just the cardinal 4 directions.
Would this work on pc? I use the PS4 controller and run my games through steam. Steam has DS4 support so I’m wondering if it’d work
To be honest I totally forgot to check this! That said I should see no reason why it wouldn't work.
don't worry bro it works on pc
It's weird I can never use a ps4 dpad. Thumb starts to nearly bleed after a few hours but I'm fine on xbox dpad. Plus it's so much easier to consistently do a dp motion
i wonder how much this will help defense in fighterz. might try blocking with the paddles
What's that theme you have on your home screen?
I believe it's a Fatal Fury theme released for free by SNK. Just search for Fatal Fury in the store, sort by price (lowest to highest) and you will probably find it immediately.
I love controllers with back buttons so I can set them to my gear shifts on racing games. Beats having to use the face buttons for me
5:48 what is that red thing
I always assumed this mod would be good for input buffering and/or charging for characters like Zero in UMVC3.
Oh yeah if you gotta hold stuff for negative edge, this would make it absolutely trivial.
Wouldn't this fall along the lines of hitbox? This technically let's you hold left and right at the same time. Remember keyboard Guile with his walk up booms?
Magus12000BC Yeah but I’m talking about this mod for pad. Hitbox is a whole stick. I know what you mean though.
I wonder how it would work with Shizumaru in samurai shodown. With this you could theoretically still have access to all your slashes even while charging Crazy Downpour the whole time.
@@Magus12000BC If it's like a Hitbox then it would consider left + right to just be neutral.
I wonder how do you use it in MK11?
Any recommendations?
When I tested it for MK I used it as block specifically to make wave dashing easier.
Can you set it to diagonal directions? I'd like to know if I can use it in order to iad in GG.
It doesn't do diagonals
@@destrax3739 Ah, that's pretty unfortunate, thank you for letting me know.
@@gerardorivas2811 You can still use it to assist you with IADs though. You could remap one of the buttons to up so that that way you only have to press left or right on the Dpad twice.
How does SOCD work with this?
iffen you hold opposite directions at same time it just counts as nothing being held and you just in neutral. No walking forward sonic booms for guile.
@@rooflemonger weird, then the thing itself has a SOCD cleaner that changes the controller?
I would never lose an monster hunter world arm wrestling match with this...
Can they be set for two additional buttons or only for existing buttons?
Well they can't be buttons that don't exist on a controller? You can set either one to any combination of Square, Triangle, X, Circle, Up, Down, Left, Right, R1,R2,R3,,L1,L2,L3,Options,Share
@@rooflemonger
I think he might have meant, using one of the buttons to combine buttons like the triangle and circle to vanish.
But will it blend?
would this help with qcf and shoryuken motions?
For SFV it can certainly be used to help cheat with SRK motions with the way the input buffer works, but you would have to work with that in mind since you can't set diagonals directly.
rooflemonger got it, thanks.
Just got mine
Definitely going to look buying one now
Would it be useful for mk11?
Instant air specials are very strong and consistent if you have a jump button to press ;)
Props to you for having Uncharted Drake Collection
Does the input on the back buttons feel good?
Its certainly odd at first because its different than the base device you have held for years, but its not particularly difficult to get used to.
@@rooflemonger In that case i may have to pick one of these things up, thank you for delivering the best content for fighting games
I feel like setting it to the up button would make it way easier to do zbroly's air grab on the ground.
That down button on dbfz is absolutely genius I wouldn't have to worry about dropping my crouching blocks!
Edit: 350+ fights and only 11 wins on ranked on a nintendo switch lite. I'm getting a ps4 fuck this torture.
Dude, if I can program that button to let myself use Taunt as a shortcut again for Bryan in T7, I'm gonna flip my shit
Do you think that they'll allow this for tournament use?
Its an official sony product. Any tournament which would allow a hitbox (which is 99% of them) would have to allow this otherwise its pure hypocrisy.
@@rooflemongerdidnt think about it that way, but it makes sense. Kinda thought of it as maybe some people disliking the additional buttons, but I guess thats not something you cant do already on the crossup or stick. Thanks for the chun vid btw. Found it insightful.
Yea this attachment is going to be crazy for teching throws in mk if you can double up the inputs I'm hoping it works as such just double up the inputs and regardless of the grabs just push the back button and tech the throw regardless which way I'm being thrown
Keep in mind while it can give you a second button, it doesn't replace the first. So if you hit button buttons at the same time (say both are square), it only counts as 1 input of square. Game won't let you cheat it directly like that. However for feathering/plinking inputs, works like you think it should
@@rooflemonger ok thx for the info ik you can visually see which way they are going too throw you(like kano you can see him grab your crotch which means back throw) but I still struggle with the throw techs from time too time
But can’t you just press any button to tech a Dragon Rush?
Yes, but tech window much easier/bigger if you tech a DR with a DR.
lol first thing that popped up for me on google
how much is this?
Now you can air dash easier instead of having to use the analog sticks !
I have the elite controller for xbox that has 4 buttons on back i recommend
@Michael Chambers yea
Where’s the hyper hop concept link
linked at end of the video
Wonder if this will be considered legal in tournaments?
100% yes. Any tournament which would allow a hitbox(which is all of them) would by default have to allow this as it works under the same principles.
Guess im a Kazuya main now
I've been using this for years. FPS Strike Pack
Lol I was looking at these yesterday
i mean. if tekken let us assign movement inputs to the back buttons we wouldnt need this. So yeah we are basically using hitbox on pad.
What the fuck, I need to try this!
Probably make it a lot easier to play button-hold characters on a pad, like charging Raiden's dropkicks in KOF 13.
interesting it is legal in a tournament?
there is no tournament that I know of that would ever ban it. We already have stuff like hitboxes which is crazier than this could ever be and those are 100% legal.
Can i program IAD?
Not directly cause it won't allow for diagonals, but you can easily just set it for left/right and then just diagonal jump and hit appropriate bumper and boom, quick and easy IAD's
I just bought it, after a few minutes of play, it’s pretty bad. It completely destroyed the ergonomic of the ds4 and place itself right at the center of gravity so there’s no way to “rest” the controller.
You can actually accidentally press the buttons with your ring finger during intense play or just doing dp. Because the button rest right on the ring finger.
The idea of the mod is good but the form factor is a fail.
If this is your home screen tell me what you think of kakarot if you've played it
It is indeed my home screen. Kakarot is fun enough! Its certainly not game of the year material or nothing, but if you are a fan of the DB franchise I think you would get enough enjoyment out of it.
Would this be illegal for tournaments?
Hitboxes are allowed for tournaments, so there is 0 reason to ban these. Controllers with back buttons built in are tournament legal and this is an official sony product, there should be no issue.
@@rooflemonger Alrighty! Thank you for helping!
This is op, for tekken i mean not sure for other fighting games
i'm gonna get this for playing Bardock, will make universal fuzzy waaaay easier and allow for the L+H plink on pad
How you gonna set it up to help you to do the uni fuzzy?
Asking for a friend 🙄
@@Panrogo set the left button to forward to help with the IAD input on landing, and the right button to Heavy attack so u can plink the L into H
@@nikolasdragatakis5542 tought about the forward button, but it didnt occur to me to set up h like that, you are a genius
@@nikolasdragatakis5542 problem is there is no "forward" button, you would need to set up left and right deppending on the side of the screen
@@Panrogo yes true, you'd be stuck with one direction if you want the plink. But you can probably forgo the plink since everyone blocks on incoming post snap anyways
