Rah Meyer. I also swallowed the barrel of my 9mm last year. Same thing happened to me sir, It was loaded and had a round chambered but experience a failure to fire. I have the bullet on a necklace now as a reminder that I can NEVER go back. I am with you Brother and if you ever need anything, I am here for you and all my brothers and sisters. I don't know if you'll see this but I wanted to share with you so those reading the comments know they aren't alone and can reach out to someone if needed. Semper Fi Brother.

First I'd like to say Semper Fi brother, i also am a Marine who probably did to many deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. All in total 5 combat deployments 2 in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan, someone asked me why did you keep going back......and i told him the honest to God truth. I told him that being there was the only place i felt normal. I got out of the Corp in 2013 i had been wounded on several separate occasions, i thought that i would have no problems......i would tell myself i don't see how it could be worse than being in combat. I was wrong i ended up being diagnosed with PTSD and Treatment Resistant Depression and brother i struggled hard. Then one evening i just fell apart i had simply lost the will to live, thinking of all the friends i had lost and how much i had sacrificed. I found myself sitting on a bench in the small Northwestern Pennsylvania town i live outside of, just sitting on this bench with my 45 in hand loaded with 1 in the pipe. I started to put the gun in my mouth when out of nowhere this woman comes up and just sat down beside me. I knew i couldn't blow my brains out with her sitting there so i put the gun down beside me and just sat there waiting for her to leave so i could end it all. She looked at me and just started talking to me i couldn't fucken believe it. She sat there all night with me just talking and in the morning she even took me to the VA Hospital to get the help i desperately needed. It all comes down to a woman i didn't even know saving my life. Since then i decided to live my life for this simple purpose and that is, that we owe it to all the one's who didn't come back to live the lives they cannot. That's a hell of a story, something that not everyone can share. There are a lot of people that will listen, but change begins within us. There are enough people that will listen. You're right, things will get better.

But I have to say this one hit real close to home for me... the struggle can be so real sometimes (addiction, depression, anxiety). I can relate to your past, Ive attempted before, and I couldn't describe it any better than you, just a very dark place in my memory, at times I avoid remembering it. Dakota you are a inspiration to me cause i was in that dark place while i was serving in the military in 2007 i was Honorably Discharge in 2008 and i was fighting that uphill battle by myself all the time, you need family and friends support, but going to the VA MH helped me to get on the right path and watching your videos Dakota inspires me to more.

I'm an Aussie Afghan veteran and current serving LEO. PTSD is something I am personally learning about lately after realising I'm suffering the early stages of it.

I just want to thank you for the sacrifices you have made in the past and for putting this video up. I finally watched it and it really hit home for me. I am 55 and have been disabled for the past 10 years. At first my goal was to see my kids graduate high school and then college. Our youngest one finished in May of this past year. I currently don't have a specific goal set for me on what I am living for and I have been feeling the same emotions you described. I have actually developed a plan on how to end things and make it look accidental. After watching your video tonight, you made me realize I am not alone in my emotions. Thanks for putting it out there and for giving me the knowledge that even the strongest and baddest people struggle with similar stuff. Good luck with your struggle and thanks again for all you have done for all of us!

im glad to see you smiling. my dad retired from the army a long time ago and worked in the civilian world for another 39 years. yet to this day, i hardly see him smile or laugh. during his military career he was almost all the time posted in a highly volatile place in the world called Kashmir. he was is the artillery unit , always watching the mountain valley and passes.he had did commando training as well. i do tell him to lighten up.as an army officer, i wonder how stressed he must have been. i do try and show him story like yours.people who faced tough situations and still smile.my granddad who too was an army officer, was a smiling and happy person.i wish my dad could destress aleast now, now that he is 63.Dear Mr.Meyer, i hope you continue smiling like today and will keep my words near to your heart.
