Despite of sad event of my life - lost my job - thx for this gift 1 hour of listening Handel's sad arias about meaning of all searchs, losts and death through many voices of modern and perfect opera european singers. 🍁🌲🌹⚘🍾🥂🍯
Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson+
Ann Hallenberg+
Many blessings for you to gain a new job in the near future 🙏🏼❤️
Magdalena Kožená +++ So many pure strong feelings and emotions in a sincere pure and powerful performance, truly feminine and masterful, devoid of the usual disadvantages of female performance. Divine and unique! BRAVISSIMO!!!
No one is the best, but everyone is special and absolutely fascinating
No one can top over Anne Sofie von Otter who sang it at the Opera National de Paris . She performed Haendel’s opera ARIODANTE and conducted by Marc Minkowski. In 2001, a friend gifted me the 3-CDs of the opera, got struck by the beauty of her singing and has always been my favourite aria.
Franco Fagioli
None of them can beat Jaroussky's version sung in Versailles.
Ann Hallenberg, she has the heroic metal in top, darkness in the middle/chest.
And wehmut. You hear Ariodante.
Wonderful as always. 🌹🙏😇
Franco Fagioli is my favorite
Then Lea Desandre and Ian Bostridge
Two of the greatest performances I've attended in person were of "Scherza Infida" at Carnegie Hall. Joyce DiDonato and David Daniels.
Joyce, in a concert performance of the entire opera, brought me to tears; dramatic, emotional, totally convincing.
David Daniels, in a concert performance, was the opposite, ethereal, mesmerizing, I forgot to breathe. The audience's silence at the end was more powerful than any applause.
Reminds us that a great work of art transcends any particular interpretation, and that opera is more than a vocal exercise. For what it's worth, I choose Anne Sofie von Otter as my favorite recording.
Franco Fagioli is the best.
Raffaele Pe and Mr Fagioli
1. Franco Fagioli 🤩 2. Ann Hallenberg 3. Magdalena Kozenà
After listening so many beautiful renditions, this aria has entered my mind and I don't know how to get rid of it now. 😊 Thank you
It’s an honor to hear such truly great singing. People are singing with great earnestness and imagination on each note.
Without even listening to all of these wonderful artists I already knew Magdalena Kožená was the best interpreter of this exquisite aria.
1.Magdalena Kožená
2.Philippe Jaroussky
3.Léa Desandre
4.Raffaele Pe
Love the variety of textures and tempi. I didn't know Raffaele Pe and am very impressed by the voice, expressivity, and variety of approach.
I don't understand what people get from Kožena that I don't appreciate...I keep hearing very substandard technique in all her repertoire.
Thanks for putting this together! !
Lorraine is the purest singer
Everyone’s perfectly wonderful.
Ms. Kozena pulls out all the stops! Wow!
Nope! She truly has a magnificent voice but is not at all convincing in Scherza infida and the Ariodante's orchestration is not great, either. I much prefer the Franco-Italian Léa Desandre who expresses the feeling of betrayal so well.
Léa Desandre gives me incredible emotion - Philippe Jaroussky is my forever love - I discover Raffaele Le and I like him a lot -
Ian Bostridge’s perspective as a tenor brings a new wonder to this aria. I admire countertenors’ work as representing the composer’s original intention, and the women’s work, but Mr. Bostridge has passion and sincerity. He brings a new depth to the part.
Kozena! Maravilhosa!❤❤❤
Kozena! Perfeita 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
I admire Ms. Di Donato and Ms. Hunt-Lieberson for their passionate and nuanced performance of this aria (I hope I’m not being pretentious here; they really sought to give every word its full meaning in each part of the aria). I’m always interested in what countertenors can do in representing men in an opera; however, I felt Raffaele Pe did not give much feeling to his performance here. He does have a lovely voice.
Léa Desandre is the best!❤
It is hard to top Franco
Magdalena Kozena and Philippe Jaroussky.
Lea Désandre sings like an angel...
beautiful performances and that's why it's hard to distinguish someone, but you can always tell who is missing and for me personally Kacper Szelążek is missing here, but luckily Kacper is easy to find on CZcams... Anne Sofie in companion of Marc is simple amazing, ever...
How about an English translation?
The best version it not here ! It was Anne Sofie von Otter with Minkowski in1997...
I was about to write the very same comment. ASO is outstanding.
I appreciate your mention of ASO. I sometimes don’t include the “gold standard” interpreters in order to shine a light on others whose interpretations may not be that well known.
@@baroqueandbeyond I'm gld you consider her the 'gold standard' - she made the aria hers, bringing a depth of interpretation no other has touched
Mainly Jaroussky, Hallemberg, Fagioli
Franco!!! and Lea!!!
D 'accord
Franco Fagioli ✌️👏
Léa Desandre
Philippe Jaroussky, Franco Fagioli,Ann Hallenberg.
Fagioli and Kozenà
Magdalena Kozená
Lea Desandre, incredible ❤️
Anne Sofie von Otter
Love All ❤❤❤
Ann Hallenbergs impassioned performance is 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠 for this aria , but right on her heels was counter-tenor Rafelle Pe who was outstanding, closely followed by Lea Desandre. 😁👌👌👏👏👏
Music during that period were written for countertenors, weren't they ?
Since this is a male character in the opera I am biased in favor of a counter- tenor or tenor. Fagioli is sublime; Bostridge's vocal range gives the aria some dark and light
Kacper Szelążek une magnifique intérpretation❤
Fagioli👍👍👍
A wonderful collection of renditions of this famous aria. I love them all. At a purely personal level, trying to find the time to listen to them all in one sitting is difficult, though still enjoyable in chunks. As others have written there are many other delicious versions, though these are enough…for now!
Fine as several of the singers in this collection are, how anybody can omit Janet Baker in this connection is beyond me. Luckily the entire Ariodante conducted by Raymond Leppard is available now if you look for Janet Baker.
Hello, dear sir. Your tasks are becoming more and more demanding. Here with Handel's "Scherza infida" from his opera Ariodante. This can certainly be expanded. Love can endure a lot, here you can prove it. I can listen to 20 different pieces of music from the same composer or genre in a row, but nine times the same piece requires a lot of love. Since you can also do it in fast forward and I've heard a lot of other things afterwards, I don't - like commentator Laura Compagnoni - have a lasting catchy tune. - - - Happy Easter!
Lorraine
I couldn't agree more with you dear Teresa! Our Kacper is great! One of the best countertenors! And also as you know I just adore David Daniels' version as well as Ilham's Nazarov's! :-)
Philippe Jaroussky’s place in the countertenor field is secure. However, I wish he were stronger, more assertive, in this aria, which calls for intensity.
Lea Desandre. She invites you to listen, the others project.
Absolutly!
definitely Franco Fagioli, but here is the better version czcams.com/video/gnK8DchYa1U/video.html
Eu gosto do Ian Bostridge 👀❤️
Lorraine Hunt Lieberson
Close tie between Von Otter and Lesandre
Joyce DiDonato...
All were beautiful in their own ways and heavily influenced by the performance of the orchestra. However, for the male voices - Franco Fagioli has a wonderful voice and and ability to express the emotions of this aria, it took my breath away, Philips voice and technique are wonderful but I feel his pure/thin tone isn't well suited to this aria. For the women, who were able to put more sensitive expression into their vocal performances, I really couldn't choose between Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Joyce DiDonato and Ann Hallenberg all were stunning and wrung my heart out. I know many singers are missing from this comparison who are also wonderful - Cecilia Bartolis version is one of my favourites.
Joyce, Phillipe, Franco, Magdalena
Hermosa aria. No se sabe cuál es mejor. Es un asunto de gustos...
Everyone is truly magnificent, except that for the celebrated Mr. Fagioli, I would wish he could have a more flowing vocal line, with less impediment. He tends to go for a big vibrato on almost every note. I feel this way about his singing generally. Of course, it’s remarkable for a countertenor to have such a big voice, and I admire that.
DiDonato breaks my heart here in the best way.
Thanks for this versions some of them I didn’t know. As a music specialist, what do you think would be Handel’s favourite? I’m curious
It’s hard to say, because the virtuoso castrato Carestini was the original singer of that title role. Many people believe that Franco Fagioli has a vocal ability similar to that of the castrati, but it’s speculative since we cannot know what the best Baroque castrati sounded like.
@@baroqueandbeyond Thanks for your wise answer. I like very much Franco but, on the other side, Magdalena also sounds delightful to me.
@@baroqueandbeyond Maybe yes,maybe not!
Hallenberg / Fagioli / von Otter / Desandre (all tied)!
Lea Desandre , extraordinary !
Lea - Lea - Lea (with Les Arts Florrisants)
Although Kozena has a wonderful voice, I think that she is not very used to singing baroque opera. I think it is between Lorraine and Joyce, both of whom had and have baroque opera in their hearts.
Joyce DiDonato! She's the best! Love her beautiful voice who touches the soul so deeply!❤❤❤
In that version it's not Ann Sophie von Otter that sings this part but indeed Kozena.
Lea Desandre! czcams.com/video/Po8OIuEOHPg/video.html&start_radio=1
Trop difficile, toutes les versions me touchent ..
Rafael moins
Otter incontournable
Jarrousky très en forme, peut-être
Kozena remarquable egalement
Cecilia 🥺
Did Lea Desandre, who has a beautiful voice, leave out the section in which the character vows vengeance after death?
Exact.
Joyce
1.Ann Hallenberg, 2.Joyce di donato, 3.Lea dessandre
The best is Joyce of course and then Ann Hallenberg en Magdalena.
Kozena
Magdalena.
She's not there, but I would say Tatiana Troyanos!
Where is Janet Baker? Unbeatable!
Janet Baker?

Léa Desandre !
Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson
Nooooooo. Sabine Devieilhe isn't on here!!!
I am missing Cecilia Bartoly in the selection
Yes!
Came back for another run through.. & yes , Ann Hallenberg is still outstanding ! Yes other notables like Desandre , DiDonato & Jaroussky but Ann Hallenberg was / is way out front!
