That's a gross over simplification to call some of these other announcements "just a bonus"
I definitely get that we want all showcases to have the "big" releases, but I really appreciate the ports & localizations, personally. For all their flaws, Nintendo does a good job of keeping the older & underappreciated games alive.
With that said, the new Mario & Luigi, Zelda, and (especially) Prime 4 deservedly stole the show. They all look spectacular.
The best and most consistent Direct they've ever done.
Mario & Luigi comeback, a new Mario Party, Link's Awakening 2019 spin-off, DQ 1+2 2DHD and Metroid Mothereffing Prime Mothereffing 4! This was a banger of a Direct!

Wouldn’t really call it a links awakening spin off. Sure it uses the same art style and engine, but it’s completely unrelated and is more just the next 2D Zelda game

its not upscaled and its not a port, its equal to or worse than just emulating it using a rom you found online. i would rather use my pc (or even my phone with a bluetooth controller), since it allows me to adjust settings and controls, as well as use mods. plus, its free lol. nintendo's emulator subscription has never appealed to me whatsoever

@@MatanumiEmulators had ways to do that for many years. It's typically a lot more of a mess to set up, but on the other hand, is also... actually playable, once configured.

@@timestopMachinist yeah you are right, I’ve experienced it. Graphics are nicer than N64, but it lags horribly, and the collision detection of weapons, guards spawning, is horrible.

I think M&L is being made by Next Level Games, started after the release of Mario Strikers, and is potentially supervised by ex-alphadream employees
Apparently only around half of the Luigi's Mansion 3 developers worked on Battle League. The other half may have been working on Brothership since late 2019. Would not surprise me if after AlphaDream went under, Nintendo tasked Next Level to work on a new Mario & Luigi because Luigi's Mansion 3 saw them prove their chops with expressive animation and level/puzzle design. Especially because Luigi's Mansion was a series Nintendo kind of forced on Next Level to begin with - Tanabe swung by as they were toying with a Metroid project and said "you guys are actually gonna do Luigi's Mansion now."
I always thought Nintendo owned Denpa Men, but apparently Genius Sonority is the owner.
So on the topic of backwards compatibility that was brought up near the end of the stream
It seems most people missed it, but the president confirmed that the Switch 2 would have backwards compatibility during a board meeting a couple or a few years back. The presentation detailed how everything about the Switch now will pass on to the Switch 2, including the NSO library, and how the pool of available things would just keep getting wider and deeper as the Switch family grew and matured

I love that he doubted the Direct before it started and then checked out after Mario & Luigi, then had to check back in cuz they kept bringing something good to the table.

Investigations actually did have mobile ports, they only used pixel art for the overworld sprites though (not for the bigger ones of course)
I think Echoes of Wisdom is Nintendo's take on minecraft such as laying things (materials) down and summoning interactive in-world elements
When you said, "Has it been 20 years?" on the Phantom Brave trailer and I realized that it has, that hurt my soul. Oof. I remember picking that game up. I had just discovered anime as a kid and was like, "Hey, this looks like those shows."

you can see the polish between each new HD-2D game that comes, each new game polish the backgrounds either by a tiny bit, or by a lot, and DQ3 Remaster HD-2D is currently my favorite look of them

There are many other examples but him and Arlo are the only two that immediately come to mind. And Arlo has really chilled out over the years.

Yeah. Oddly enough, the Zoras we’re more familiar with were ocean dwelling in that game. They specifically referred to the OG Zoras as river-dwelling.
I guess Nintendo changed its mind about that specific fact by the time they made Wind Waker.
Yeah, in the 3d zeldas its kinda reversed since the domains are always in rivers besides MM.
The 2d ones are more consistent with the green river zoras.

this Nintendo Direct was HUGE! Mario & Luigi back from the grave, Mario Party, a Zelda game where you play as the titular princess the series is named after, and so much more! it started hella strong and finished stronger. i feel bad for any gamer who hasnt sided with Nintendo this generation, cause they are dominating Sony and Microsoft with their overpriced paperweights.
I think at this point there won't be big jump between console gens in term of graphics(I mean, what, are they going to make game more photorealistic than real life?), but there might be big jumps in performance and technical details

This direct surprised me alot! Not surprised DQ 1+2 are combined, their always a packaged deal and nice their together (lets be real, they don't have enough SINGLUAR content like DQ3 to justify being sold separately by default!
But other games did catch me by surprise! It's been a LONG while since Zelda got her own game! Happy the Mario & Luigi RPG series got a new entry, and the biggest surprise is Romancing Saga 2 getting a remake! I liked RS2 but I was thinking RS3 would get it before RS1, but I guess with RS1 getting a remaster of it's remake! 2 was next and I'm liking what I see! Hopefully they expand more on the characters and classes and allow you to SWITCH CHARACTERS OUT instead of the old "kill them to free up a spot" as I never liked that! And I hope they expand abit on the Seven Heroes! As the main antagonists of this entry! They each were interesting but I feel they could have been MORE! All the stuff including the Gatcha Game for the Romancing Saga games has expanded on them abit. but I would like more
I really wish people would give up on FE4 Remake happening! It's not happening! I expect a Remaster before a remake! Or if they do have it, it will likely be around when the Switch 2 is annouched and I DON'T believe it will be too powerful for the current Switch since you all KNOW early games to a new console will work for both if the new one has Backwards compatability! Their likely working on assuring THAT works and I hope it's akin to . Plus I'm sad I'll never see the SUPERIOR FE5 Remake BECAUSE we all know they're TRYING to find a way to make FE4 MAIN story theme! You know "Incest near destroys the world" will work out with the modern English crowd! (I am NOT ignoring the stupid twist with Corrin and Azura being DIRECT cousins yet they can still get married! Same with Marrying your step/adoptive siblings! Fates story and characters are still a "Divide the Fanbase" affair and their DISTANCING themselves from ALOT of things! Such as Sothe and Micaiah romance you know with the ADDED part that she raised Sothe when he was a boy and she was STILL her current appearance so that creates a bad case of "Grooming" even if the romance is shown more as something that was developed over the course of the events of Radiant Dawn from already existing FEELINGS! And of course distancing themselves from the Twincest that was the Sacred Stones Twins) Just cause us Diehards like it doesn't mean the Casual crowd might! FE4 also had a HOST of problems that diehards refuse to acknowledge that will need to be overhauled and lets be real, they're going to RIOT the moment ANY meaningful for QoL changes happen that they don't like such as the Rewind function or casual mode appear out of a derangment worth of Superboy/Superman Prime or the Final Fantasy 7 diehards for Remake/Rebirth and you WILL hear the cries of "THEY RUINED IT" even if light and small because they can't STAND that maybe their favorite thing, wasn't as GRAND as they thought it was! Took me replaying FE7, My first FE after playing Fates to release that it and 8 may not have been "perfect and unbeatable" as I thought they were! They were better then the MASTERPIECE that was "FE5 & FE1" where you can REALLY see since FE1 they came a LONG WAY (Prefer playing the FE1 remake on DS LOL! Why couldn't they have just remastered FE1 & 3 Book 1 & 2 version, that is the better verison of FE 1 & 3 and we would have finally gotten FE 3 Mystery of the Fire Emblem in the mix! Oh well) and FE5 showed all the experimental stuff that were FIXED in future Emblem's as the series progressed (Note how the only things that FE4 ever had repeated was Supports and the child units for at least two Emblems! Blacksmith has made a comeback at the very least and Engage REALLY feels like they took ALOT of FE4 & 5 mechanics like how Class determines weapon ranks rather then building it up and alot of the annoying unfairness if you DARE to not use the mechanics like FE5 forces you to! At least the Status Staves are kept under control to an extent!) and I hope FE18 is NOT a remake but the series moving forward! Maybe FE19 or 20 can be FE 4 & 5 Remakes! But I want FE18 to hopefully be the LAST Switch Entry to make them a TRILOGY of sorts (3 Houses, Engage and the next one) rather then two entries like the 3DS had and a Remake! I mean it NES had three! SNES had two, GBA had three (though we only got TWO), Gamecube and Wii had to share a single duology that was cut short! DS had two (which we only got ONE and both were remakes) 3DS had three, though two were original and one was a remake, so let the Switch conclude with Three Original
Now Metroid Prime 4 was a nice thing to see! Frankly I suspected it to get the Pikmin 4 treatment where people were about done READY to give up on it ever happening till it did! But I'm happy for that crowd! Never cared GREATLY for the Prime series. But I'm happy when other fans get what they were waiting for (We can ALL relate to that feeling of being near FORGOTTEN LOL)
The Horizon Lego was "WEIRD" as I know Lego games are on the Playstation! So why make a Lego version of a PLAYSTATION GAME? Are we going to see Lego "Ghost of Tsushima" next! Or maybe Lego "Bloodbourne" (Yeah I know that would provoke the PlayStation Fandumb in seeing their SACRED COW Exclusives being on the Nintendo in ANY FORM! Be mindful FanDUMB does not mean EVERYONE in the fandom, just the DUMB elements of them as EVERY Fandom has a FanDUMB in them! No questions asked! Even PC and Nintendo have em! You can never NOT have them because everyone is an individual and people WILL have their dumb moments)
Hopefully I see a Bravely Default 3 some day! The creator DID say it was going to be made, just going to be a WHILE and it's been LONG enough that any info HAS to be dropped at this point or next year at least! Understandable WHY it didn't appear here! With DQ 1-3 HD-2D Trilogy being announced. Can't have them competing with each other! I know Brothership, DQ3 and Romancing Saga 2 are going to be my End of the Year purcheses along with SMT5 Vengeance. Unless a New Fire Emblem gets announced like what happened with Engage (Fire Emblem is a DAY 1 buy for me no matter what, ever since I day 1 bought FE7, which was my first GBA game by the way along with Advance Wars 1, when I bought a GBA SP skipping the Vanilla GBA after seeing my cousins playing it and feeling underwelmed till the GBA SP proved SUPERIOR and I waited. Grabbing FE7 because it I'll admit, I saw Eliwood and confused him for Roy who was the reason I GAVE the game a chance in the first place having played him in SSB (It was funny how putting Marth and Roy in REALLY helped sell the idea of Fire Emblem) And not only did I play and BEAT the game, but I loved the series that when Sacred Stones appeared, I got that one Day 1, then PAth of Radiance Day 1. Essentially I DAY 1 buy ANY fire emblem game! The only exceptions being Warriors 1 (I did get Warriors 2 but then that one was more DIRECTLY connected to FE16 being a what if that was interesting) but then to be fair, I bought it super cheap and realized that yeah I would have gotten bored with it quickly! Good soundtrack though! and FE16 only because I didn't have a switch at the time, though I DID buy the game BEFORE I got my switch. So it was my FIRST Switch game as FE 7 was my first GBA game! And now Engage! So I will be waiting ever patiently (Funny enough even IF I'm wrong and FE4 does get a remake! I still win as I still get a NEW FE to play! I hate NO FE Sans the NES ones of FE 1-3 mostly because of how ANNOYING it is to play them being use to the QoL changes that I experienced in FE7 and beyond. But I hope at least FE4 will not be TOO purely attached to ALOT of the issues that plagued the original SNES release and fix the good stuff that needed working on! I am NOT like Ocarina of Time/A Link to the Past Diehards that refuse to acknowledge that the games do NOT survive the test of time! Well maybe not 64 as people enjoy the 3DS remake ALOT MORE then the Original N64 release. Story is good, but gameplay could use work! A Link to the Past is slightly better because it's gameplay still works. But that's it's own issues! 64 issues was it SCREAMS and FEELS like "we did our best" and you can give them praise for it! Alot of things like the Water Temple can drive you to despair even IF you are not speed running but playing casual! Something the 3DS remake made ALOT bearable! Too bad for Mask's Water Temple still being a plague no matter the version LOL

played tropical freeze and honestly wasnt a fan. I love hard platformers, but just found the level design and enemy palcement more "unfair hard" than "challenging hard" if that makes sense, got about 90% and gave up. way too many point were it stopped being fun for me
