I am completely disinterested in a back and forth around who is the "best singer". The thumbnail is effective, and comments about "technical bag of tricks" does not equate to "better artist". You can waste your time, but you will not waste mine.

You can't even say an objective technical opinion based on your vocal knowledge that Nippians invade comments trying to contradict you. It's sad because also other experts like people who rated Mariah and Whitney as star rated vocalists made a similar claim saying that technically Mariah wins because can do more with her voice. But nippians have found and I believe will always find excuses to discredit the opinion of the experts of the critic of music exactly as they did with you. I know your intention was not to make the two fanbases collide but people like me have subscribed and watch your videos because your technical opinions are really interesting and you should be free to express your opinions ON YOUR CHANNEL.

Hey would you react to Whitney Houstons "I'm Changing" 1986 San Francisco. Its an Audio but unfortunately alot of Whitneys best work (despite her having excellent video work) is in audio format from her 80's concerts. But that particular concert i believe you would enjoy listening to and directing. It is the quit essential school of Dynamics and Technique imo and Whitneys best vocal work (which says alot) .. do not do the Arista video that is rushed and pitchy (i believe due yo nerves) in comparison. The San Francisco one is from her tour and much more relaxed.

Mariah's songs are known for alot of crazy stuff going on in the background, she loves doin background vocals and respects background singers and they respect her considering they've all been with her for 20 year's and more.

@@codywalsh2075 this has nothing to do with being an experienced backup singer. Bahia is right. Whitney too was a backup singer and she also knew all that music theory stuff that the main comment of this thread tried so hard to discredit.
Also, Whitney fixed the arrangement of the WYB orchestra at the Oscars so she does have the knowledge and experience with harmonization and whatnot. She just didn't invest as much time layering as Mariah did, but that was her style as a vocal recording artist.
Mariah switched up the harmonies so much in this performance, she made instant decisions to meet Whitney's voice so they blended well

It's sad that people like to make unnecessary rivalries between FEMALE artists like in the case of Whitney and Mariah. The general public and media used to pit them together (especially in the early '90s) like somehow there was a rivalry until they did this song together and set the record straight. They even became BFF's 🤍

Thank you I usually don’t even read comments when watching these two duet. They actually liked each other and the fans don’t honor them but dissing the other.
Both of these ladies are enormously talented and I love them both. I have respect for both of them. Between Mariah and Whitney my vote goes to Mariah. That is taking nothing from Whitney, I just prefer Mariah's voice, layering techniques, song writing and over all artistry. As with everyone it boils down to personal preference.

Loving your videos. Most people and that includes a lot of supposed vocal experts, dont go further than who holds the note longer or who sounds louder when they're reacting to a singer performance or evaluating how good they truly are. Its nice you're sharing some technical and music knowledge, even though some jealous stans of fellow divas get mad, lol. The true, unparalelled genious of Mariah Carey as a vocalist and songwriter wont be fully appreciated and recognized until way after she passes. It usually goes that way with super talented people of her caliber.

That is a side effect of modules. However, it is possible to do polyphonic singing without nodules. Check out Lalah Hathaway

And I think your choice to start analysing Mariah really hurt Mariah's haters😂 because so often (not all), vocal coaches dont back Mariah up, give credit where she's due and analysing her voice deeply. And i see tons of Mariah haters bashing Mariah, bla3. So when you start doing this, i see a lot of mariah haters cant accept the fact lambs have been saying for long time, Mariah technique is superhuman (no shade at all here, im just saying, really) Mariah is the best technical mainstream vocalist, musical genius, crazy good mic techniques and beautiful voice. You just intentionally bash those haters that say Mariah belt is not good and not powerful. Thanks!
Folks will critique anything they perceive as a mistake. Mariah's technique is extraordinary. I won't go far as to say "the best". I think that would be true in terms of navigating range/register she is top dog. But there are a lot of different techniques used for different reasons by different singers.
Mariah's use of her voice is extraordinary and unique to her. That's what makes her a great artist. It's not because she can hit crazy notes; though that is pretty awesome. 😂

Whitney is the most gifted female vocalist of the last half century. I loved Mariah's tone. But, Whitney in her prime, was untouchable. Beautiful tone, great vibrato, she could sing circles around all the others. The difference is in the live performances. Listen to I Am Changing, or Grestest Love at Wembley Mandela concert, or A Quiet Place.

I watched this when it aired. There was an issue with Whitney going rogue from what they'd rehearsed...
Whitney and Mariah used to bicker in their relationship, although they sustained a close and sweet friendship. Whitney was called "Lamb" and Mariah was called "Chop!" At their first recording session they surprised they're "people" by how well (and soon) they clicked.
As this show-moment went into commercial, Whitney (apparently) complained to Mariah about *her* part. Couldn't tell exactly what she said cuz she concealed away from camera.
But--yes, I read her lips--Mariah snapped back, "YOU went up and came back down!!"
If memory serves, she gesticulated the 2 directions. Then, they went into some convincing smiles and laughter.
Example: Mariah's note at the crescendo should've been much higher than Whitney's, but it wasn't...
Mariah was caught off-guard. That was her moment.

@@vocalslover2131 It's not true. What he said was "to sing a whitney’s song is hard but try to sing a Mariah’s song is a vocal suicide" which is very accurate. Whitney's studio recordings are not that challenging. Simply because that's how Clive Davis wanted them to be sung.Simple. Even during the recording of Saving all my love, he refused her any riff or adlib on the final product. So when she sang it live there's ALOT more there shes doing than the studio version. Hence, Whitney's LIVE recordings are alot harder and require far more skill to reproduce than her studio recordings. Mariah's studio recording are incredibly difficult because there's ALOT going.
@@mrvocal21 I don't like compare these women because they are both the best in what they do anyway Whitney Houston was a phenomenal performer, she was Born to perform, stage presence, connection with the public, and so on but actually live has often made songs easier to sing even in her prime, often made them even more interesting, for sure, and she sounded awesome for sure but she made the songs also easier to sing, lowered key, change the tempo to catch breath more often while Mariah tried to sing almost all her songs Just like studio, Vision of love, Vanishing, Can't let go, If It's over and so on and make It even harder often surpassing the studio version. Her vocals are honestly the most impressive I've ever heard. Even songs that seem almost easy on first listen like Open Arms are literally a vocal suicide to sing live, one of the things with Mariah are the constant unmatched transitions and the runs without going off key.

Mariah's voice is so colorful, dynamic, i dont know the other terms though hehe. . There may be singers who can sing higher notes than her, can hold longer notes than her, more powerfull voice (im not saying Mariahs voice is not powerful, it is very)..But Mariah's voice is so pleasing and piercing the heart. A singer who can sing a higher note or can whistle higher doent equate a better singer. I am a fan of Ms. Whitney too RIP. I also adore other female artists.

I've never been a Whitney fan. It's always been about Rachelle Ferrell for me. I've never heard a vocalist do the things she does with her voice that was truly amazing to me. My cousin is a true Whitney fan. Once I was watching Family Feud and Steve Harvey said, Whitney Houston was the greatest vocalists of all time. So I began to pay attention to Whitney Houston and I must admit she is a vocal Beast. I would've love to see Rachelle Ferrell and Whitney Houston take to the stage in a duet.

Most of Whitney’s singing is not driven by technically , it was driven by pure emotion in most case, and her perfect instrument (voice) allowed her to pretty much go anywhere and do anything she wanted.
This might be a Mariah diss but I’ll ignore it and say I think it’s because Whitney sung in the church. She is the type of singer where you go to the church just to hear her sing even if the preacher isn’t that good. These are my two favorite singers. Mariah is my favorite singer but Whitney has my favorite vocal performance with the song I Will Always Love You.
