Wow look at that second from last picture 😮 all them faces in that grain! Brilliant
thanks so much 😀
Incredible talent! I love the bluesy music. I’m just fine without spoken narration.😊
Thank you so much 😀
Cripes that hinge idea is clever... And such beautiful hand tools also... quite a nervewracking moment with the planing of the top and bottom surfaces of the close on the box... Just beautiful! Thanks. Tom (from France).
thanks Tom, I’m pleased you enjoyed 😀
Great vid. Excellent box. If thats your first time veneering, you nailed it, especially when finished by the inlay.
Thanks, so pleased you enjoyed it 👍
That is a thing of beauty, and I am in awe of your skills. I made my first scrap-wood pine box today, it's not too bad. This inspires me to keep improving. Thanks.
That is awesome, thanks. 👍
That is one sexy box. Great job as always and the inlay around the veneer just makes it pop. Looking forward to the next video.
thanks 😀
Nice one! Extra points for hand tools!
Thanks! 👍
Lovely to watch, fantastic result. And as for that magnificent glueing of the handle - breathtaking!! Thank you for another great video.
Thanks, you are so welcome 😀
Lovely clear video.Good to see a project thats demanding but not too complicated- and the wooden hinge comes out a treat.Well done!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful workmanship. There’s nothing like the beauty of natural wood. Hundreds of varieties.
Thank you very much! I couldn’t agree more 👍
Amazing work mate!
Thanks a lot! 😀
Gorgeous jewelry box. Thanks for posting the video. Great job!
thank you so much 😀
I was hoping for another flurry of music commentary 😂 That burl veneer is breathtaking, and the inlay frame genius. What a gorgeous little box!
Thanks Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Absolutely stunning amazing work.
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful job as always. 👍👍
Thanks 😀
Your idea to add the inlay was great. It really framed that burl and make it look sensational. What is the recipe for your 'lemon curd' you use?
thanks glad you liked it 👍
Its a beeswax, turpentine & a finish oil mix (I used Liberon’s beeswax & Finish oil) The mix isn’t quite straight forward as depends on the beeswax, the one I used from Liberon had turpentine in it as well so I needed more than if it was just plain beeswax. But I started with equal parts then added more beeswax till I got the consistency I wanted.
Hope that helps 😀
Cunning plan. Definitely thinking outside the box.
thanks 😀
My only suggestion would be to tape a part of the bottom edge of your block plane to protect the veneer when trimming the blond inlay on the top. Beautiful work!!
thanks, great tip and I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍
Incridable
Ebony, tough on tools. Great video.
thanks 😀
Beautiful! I’m such a sucker for burls!
thanks 😀 me too 👍
Beautiful work and techniques, very therapeutic ✨️
Thank you so much!
Looks like Coromandel to me, you made a really nice box!
thanks 😀
Perfect job, thank you so much for great video
Thanks, Glad you liked it! 😀
Well, you made veneering look easy. I’m very glad that vacuum system worked as it just shows you don’t need expensive equipment. I had not seen that veneer saw/inlay trick before but it adds significantly to the aesthetic.
I think everyone should know that you are “self-taught” YT may be a good teacher but you have to bring natural attributes of patience and precision to make it all work.
Very watchable video with an excellent result.
thanks for the kind words 😀 I was pleasantly surprised how well the veneering turned out, I’ll definitely be using that method again 👍
@@GM_Design I’m sure you will get heavily figured burl veneers which will require “flattening” before adhesive. I’m sure there are many ways to do this but my old way is to use a glycerin/water mixture all over the veneer and then vacuum press/clamp between 2 flat boards until dry. Then carry on as normal. I also use the Titebond cold press veneer adhesive - I have no idea what additions make it great for that - but for complex glue ups including shapes onto a form, I tend to use Cascamite as it has such a long open time. As ever, you find a way that suits your own way of working.
thanks for the tips 👍
I made a video on how I make that hinge. Almost all the boxes I sell though my website and Etsy store have that hinge...I even invented a wooden latch for the front to match it. I do things a little different based on my own tools and experiences but, largely the same...even the same quick-clamps...lol. Great video.
thanks really pleased you enjoyed it 😀 I’ll have to check out your work 👍
Wow!!!!
You sir take master craftsman to another level thank you 😅🎉
Thanks, you are very welcome 😀
Lovely. Very nice hand work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Excelente, excelente mesmo, parabéns 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
obrigado 😀
excellent
Thanks!
Wher do you get your medallions for your logo.
I got mine from -
www.etsy.com/uk/shop/vonHanke
I’ve seen other sellers on Etsy with similar products as well 👍
Beautiful..... What are your plans for the inside?
thanks, glad you liked it 😀 this one will stay like it is as that’s what was requested but I happily put in trays/inserts/dividers etc if needed as shown in previous videos 👍
nice work
Thanks 👍
beautiful box and I love watching you work, very inspirational. Pleas can the music its gets annoying after a couple minutes it made want to stop the vid but I had to see the finish. thank you.
ok, thanks for the feedback 👍 I’m pleased you liked the box 😀
👍👍👍👍👍
Your videos ar very good but I think a little narration or discussion would be good. Not being critical, just a thought. Either way way your work is really nice.
thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Maybe I’ll try narrating in the future 👍
I thought it was fine. But, I am a woodworker and understood every step Gary took. Maybe a mention here or there on sanding with the green pad or knocking down the sheen with paper might have helped, but it was pretty self explanatory, I felt.
Identifying a personality connects us to videos. Just saying hello and showing face helps lock in our memory more than shots without a face. Very common for me to recall the who before the channel name.
Everyone is different but I’m ok with no narration. This is the kind of vid I like to watch whilst having something different piped into my ears.
Beautiful outcome. OMG I'm in love with that box..
How much? I'll pay shipping...❤😮
thanks, really pleased you like it 😀 Unfortunately this already has a new home sorry.
@@GM_Design ❤️
👏🤩💕
I have had trouble with bleed through using yellow glue on Burls.Contact cement has worked best.
thanks for the tip, I’ll have to try that if I have that issue on my veneering journey 👍
Like the vacuum bags. Can you share where you got them?
Probably Amazon, they’re not expensive, I nicked one from home where we use them to vacuum pack clothes & bedding! Just search vacuum bags or vacuum storage bags and you’ll find them 👍
Honest question here, the box was amazing, but what made you choose MDF over plywood core or a cheap hardwood/softwood core?
thanks, I’m glad you liked it 😀
I’d happily use MDF or Plywood, it just so happens I had some MDF already and the price of Plywood at the mo is ridiculous anyway! I prefer them as there is no wood movement etc so they make a better substrate, in my opinion 👍
Awesome 👍 Where did you get that dowel maker?
thanks 😀 The dowel cutter is by Veritas, I got mine from - www.classichandtools.com/veritas-dowel-tenon-cutters/p1296 👍

Excuse me.. Can you help me get music for carpentry work
I use Epidemic Sound, check out their website 👍
Ebony? Don’t want much of that stuff on the shop floor!
yes, it wasn’t cheap! 😂
Sorry, every detail is beautiful but the lid handle!😢
glad you like the box 😀 if not the handle! What would you have preferred?
@@GM_Design just put a mark to where it can be opened or cut off the protruding wood.
Very nice box! Lovin’ the tunes too.
I made myself a magnetic plane fence to use with my #4 5 & 6 planes, very helpful.
Where did to acquire that piece of ebony? Thanks
Thanks, really pleased you liked the box (and the tunes!) 😀
The ebony was from Surrey Timbers 👍
Thank you sir
