- In this step of the restoration we are painting the interior of the Fastback with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Only painting the areas that are going to be covered by carpeting and upholstery like floor pans, roof, side vents, to protect from future rust.

I'm so glad that somebody is doing a proper restoration rather than some hacks that keep it "patina".
These videos have been a real help I’m starting this weekend on my own 1965 Mustang. I hope one day you start making videos again these are extremely helpful!!!
I’m about to start my 73 Mach 1 followed by my 71 LeMans Sport and this gives me a lot of pointers thanks man, keep them coming!
Oh man thats great! Im glad you find these videos helpful!
I recently found your channel while looking for tips on my 66 fastback and you’re the best out of the other channels I was watching you give the most in-depth look at your work and how to do it. Surprisingly your mustang is in better shape than mine 😂. But I can’t wait for the next video brother these are really giving me some tips about stuff. Keep it up
Thank you for the feedback! I’m glad I was able to help! The purpose of this channel is to give information that’s not usually found on other channels while also giving the usual info. Thanks again brother that means a lot! 👍🏻
SO AWESOME!
can’t wait until you finish this beautyy, ugh my dream car 😭
I’m hoping it’s soon, I’ll post as much as possible! 😄
Great work brother!! It took me few years too get my 71 mustang done. But once its fully done its the greatest feeling. Keep up the content 👌
Thank you! Just a lot of time time and elbow grease right? Haha thanks again!
Looking good!
I would feel better seeing seam sealer on the weld and OEM resistance welds that over lap. I am OCD when it come to water intrusion and future homes for rust.
Thats a good point, this had seam sealer on all the seams and welds before the encapsulator went on. Could call it double protection
Did you sandblast the interior? If so what did you use and how did you clean it out before spraying the rust encapsulator? Are you making any special considerations for any updated wiring?
I did not blast the interior, I used an angle grinder and a wire wheel for any rust spots. to clean I used a wax n grease remover before shooting the encapsulator. Yes! great question, will be posting a wiring video tomorrow at 10:30 AAW wiring harness.
Keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks Eric!
Did you have to remove the lead from the sail panels ? Or remove the rear quarter panels to paint the inside ?
Did you think the rust encapsulator with lacquer thinner on the hvlp gun?
Isn’t that Eastwood rust encapsulator suppose to be applied directly to the metal and not over primer? Curious as to your results.
Yes it can be applied DTM. I like to use primer as an extra layer of protection and adhesion. ive been walking all over it and putting tools inside, so far no chips or lifting. Im sure itll be more than fine
What CFM and at pressure is your setting?
I believe my CFM is around 10 and my pressure at the gun was around 35
i see this video's almost a year old.. i went to check for an up to date on the car, but i see you're playing with the motor now.. how's the car coming along. nice work btw. i know gloves are kinda scarce, but you should def look into some of them lol.. save your hands a bit.
Haha yes during that time i could not find a box of gloves. Im working on new up to date videos but havent pushed them out yet. Shes running and driving, almost ready for paint!
Where we at with this build new video coming
This Arizona heat has been hard on us, im working on a couple videos with the 289 build for the fastback! I should be posting a lot more these next couple weeks!
oops!! Eastwood Encapsulator goes on bare metal to encapsulate rust, then prime.
Eastwood specifically states it can be used as a “Top Coat” or have a top coat over it. Im sure a bit of primer wont hurt. So far no adhesion problems, cheers!
@@rookie__pilot Yes, you can LEAVE it as a top coat and yes it can be applied to primer like paint. but it isn't encapsulating any existing rust so why use it? it won't prevent future rust any better than primer and paint.
@@lukesdoings7150 This is a rust encapsulator, not a rust eliminator. It does not contain an acid that eats into rust as it is a shell to seal off moisture from getting to metal. The point of failure is any spot that is a pin-hole to outside or a porous weld. The Eastwood Encapsulator is not a catalyzed product, as it dries to a hard shell. Once wire brushed, wax & grease, flash rust can sit in. Coating it with an Epoxy sealer over seam sealer or not, prevents future rust, by creating a sealing shell like a plastic wrap while promoting adherence of any coating to follow. Call this belt and suspenders approach but I am all for it. It will look this good 50 years from now and last perhaps 100+ years. Think about the manufacture dunking vehicles! These were not! If so, where did it go? What did the use? We know newer vehicles are dunked but smeared with seam sealer, even though it's thinner metal, these are rusting out left and right, regardless of brand. My hat is off the this Mustang owner, who hasn't spent wheelbarrows of money on metal protection before any "Seen Color" has been applied. I am guilty of looking at the logical side as anyone who repairs the bodies of older Mustang's can tell where they will find rust around & in the window frames, torque boxes, floor pans, trunk floor extensions, etc. This is predictable! As for pressurized abrasive treatment, I have not seen any one of 9 different types that is worth it, unless you are repairing rust eaten panels/parts that make this faster! But all are dirty, must be neutralized, can't get all of the media out of hiding places.
I am not even a big Ford fan, but I am doing my research for inside & out, underneath and in between. I like this best!

Thanks for going in depth with this response!
Did you use epoxy primer under that encapsulator ?? Also can sound deadner be applied on top of that spray? I wanna use rust protection and also spray some other stuff for sound and heat and cold
Yes i did, but none is necessary. The rust encapsulator can be used right over metal. And yes i applied some killmat on the roof quarters and floors. Sticks pretty good!
Awesome I wanna do the same to mine I’m getting close to finishing removing all the interior I wanna add the raptor bed-liner inside and under as well
@@Maxmgm212. ah yes, raptor liner is pretty good for the under carriage. For the interior lizard skin is probably the best, it has sound deadening properties aswell as thermal insulation to keep the heat out, but raptor is your second best option
