When it was released in 2012, the Dragon ball Z Budokai HD collection followed the trend of HD remasters of the time by catering to the nostalgia of older players who wanted to play their favourite games on modern systems.
The collection is available on both the ps3 and xbox 360. And just by looking at the cover, it is obvious from merely glancing at the cover that this so-called collection is lacking in at least one important component.

The fact that the DMC collection includes DMC 2 but the Budokai collection doesnât include Budokai 2 is just egregious
that's toei or namco bandai for you, always screwing up this beautiful franchise with mediocre crap.
@@KeepRockingTheDragonyet thereâs a 4 game release of the storm games ....
@@PatternLand because theyâre still love to by fans iâm still to this day have a massive competitive scene. That actually has online. Technically to do a proper full Budokai Collection theyâd have to do Budokai 1, 2 and 3 plus infinite world and all the Budokai Tenkaichi games.
It also doesn't help that budokai HD collection isn't on the 8th generation of consoles, 9th generation of consoles, or on PC, which kinda sucks.
DMC was a game where it's story actually mattered. As much as people dislike DMC2, it's story is still relevant in the grand scheme of things. Especially in an era where they were trying to gauge interest for what would eventually become DMC5.
Budokai 2 is my fave. I adored the board game system and did the campaign maybe 50 times. There is SO many unique things to find and uncover.
Me too dude me too. I probably played it through more than 100 times lol because when I was a little kid for the first year or two I didnât even own a memory card đbut it was always fun for me to use new characters out in different scenarios and like you said find new things.
man i love budokai 2, i have the game on my ps2, granted fighting kid buu or buuhan is a straight monster to deal.
@@KeepRockingTheDragon Budokai 2 has the most authentic Kid Buu fight ever. He straight up obliterated you.
@@AcidRainComics right I'm always finding myself going back to the board game right after I finished it.
I like 2 the most it was fun playing with friends choosing who controls a chess peicr
they need to bring all the budokai games to current systems
Hype

Yes they do and with no censorship to brolys ultimate at all or any censorship whatsoever as well as the original music.
Or you can buy a modded playstation 2 and take care of it
@@WeebGamer101 you canât have the original music they would get sued into the dirt. Kenji Yamamoto plagiarized most of his music. Itâs why Kai ended after Cell. Theyâd have to redo the music. The case is already closed and they canât use that music. I hate that its stolen and I work out to these songs All the time. But letâs just take a uncensored upscale with all the content outside of the soundtrack. What I would do is have the actual anime music tracks and depending on your voices you get Bruce faulconer and the oh anime ost.
The replaced soundtrack killed it for me. I know why they took it out but it was such a huge part of the game that it negatively impacts the collection without it.
2 and infinite world were probably cut to fit on the Xbox 360 DVDâs
They could of made it with multiple disc for the 360. There were a few games that did that.
@@HiddenChannel can you hit the button that makes it so i cant see your videos pop up any more your stuff keeps poppin up in my feed no mwtter how many times i hit not interested or dont recommend.
@@HiddenChannel dbz is a male franchise for men not women go talk about barbie yall want into our stuff that we make to stop men from killing themselves us having higher suicide numbers and all and you feminst always dont just want into our stuff thsts not good enough you want to be the main charaters.

@@HiddenChannel get a male bratz doll made and we will start giving a shit about a female lead in a anime made to make men feel good about themselves
As a proud owner of both I 100% agree HD collection censors character attacks such as Brolyâs and removes the awesome music with stolen music from 3 other games at the same time they donât have budokai 2 and the European version has budokai 1 in Japanese only why why why so unfair great video Hidden you are very underrated hope you grow more soon
Thanks for watching :D
It's not censored, they messed up the planet destruction trigger to activate on the wrong scene. Use it on a stage that can't be destroyed like the time chamber or destroyed earth.
I don't care too much about the censorship....I didn't like Budokai 1 all that much, I pretty much stopped playing it after I got Budokai 3 on PlayStation. I will say, this remastering was decent, but damn the music was a MAJOR loss. Some of my favorite "DB" songs were on here, sucks that they're not entirely belonging to Dragon Ball :(
â@Dog Wringer Broly's ultimate is definitely censored, in that when Broly grabs his opponent's head and slams him headfirst onto the ground, on the moment of impact the screen fades to white for a split second, this wasn't in ps2 version
I literally just put what they've done. Go do it yourself.
I remember my friend showing this to me and being excited to play it after loving Budokai 3 as a kid, and as soon as I heard the music I was like....this ain't gonna work.
Still sad they replaced the soundtrack
I was so disappointed when I got my copy. At the time I didn't know they changed the music :(
â@@HiddenChannel BT3 replacement tracks still great but those Budokai soundtracks were something else
I just put in my copy of Budokai 3 HD for the first time and my heart sank đą that's glorious soundtrack is butchered
Thought I was the only one who felt this way. Not only did you mention the issue with the new music not being as good, you also touched on the fact that it was lacking important titles like Infinite World. That was the only game that had Pikkon and Janemba smh. Top-tier video ma'am!!!
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit was a PS3 and Xbox 360 game anyway and the PSP Games were just watered down portable versions of what the console games were. Kinda like how we also got Dragon Ball tenkaichi tag team to give us a portable DBZ Tenkaichi game. Infinite Wolrd sadly wasnât as popular with fans and stuck to Budokai 3 and the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Especially when it came to the competitive scene.
@Aidan Downes Most people didn't have PSPs to play that game though. Low sales for the PSP as a whole directly contributed to low game sales across the board. That doesn't mean it wasn't a good game. And Burst Limit was a continuation of the same style of play in a new console with new mechanics. Though I will say, combo depth and potential were a bit weaker.
@@captaindavidjones844 80.79 million units sold originally for the psp and the vita only sold 10-15 million so Iâd say the psp did do pretty well. I know the games are good as I still play DBZ ZB another road on my ps vita, same with DBZ Battle Of Z when I travel. Sadly the main continuation we got for DBZ Tenkaichi on PS3 was Ultimate Tenkaichi aka that DBZ Rock, Paper, Scissors game. Favourite to play would still have to be raging blast 2 considering that gave us SSJ 3 Broly and Vegeta who if Iâm not mistake and havenât returned other then the card games. And most of the fan favourite features from previous games on modern consoles at the time.
@Aidan Downes Hot take, but all of the "flying games" sucked to me. Tenkaichi to Xenoverse...ALL of them lol. None of them had as much complexity in gameplay as the original Budokai series. They were a failed experiment that developers refused to give up on. Kinda like Boruto smh. FighterZ is the best game since Budokai 3. Just my opinion.
@@captaindavidjones844 well it comes down to personal preference as one is an arena fighter and one is more an arcade fighter. To be fair you probably wonât like DB UT4 when it comes out as thatâs most likely gonna follow more in the style of the Arena fighter genre like the previous games in series.
Another reason Budokai 2 was left out was because the band Tower Of Power helped compose the soundtrack, which means they had rights issues with the OST. I only bought this on PS3 so I could play Budokai 3 on more modern hardware (I have Budokai 2 and 3 on PS2, but my PS2 has trouble reading discs)
Yeah but Kenji Yamamoto's name is still attached to it, so...they can't really give him any credit.
I mean, when they literally replaced the entire soundtrack, there was nothing to credit in the first place.
Honestly I am more shocked Yamamoto was able to get away with the plagiarism for as long as he did more than I am the plagiarism.
Wake up babe new hidden video just dropped
I was really disappointed when they replaced the music, but I understand why. As a kid I only played Budokai 1 & 3. I skipped 2 but had hopes they would add it to the HD collection.
You didn't miss anything skipping budokai 2 wasnt a good game
@@juswavvy9634 it was a good game, you probably just got your ass kicked in it lol
@@KeepRockingTheDragon as someone who owned Budokai 2 on ps2 and GameCube Budokai 2 was alright nothing special
SD quality or not, I'm more than happy to own Budokai 1, 2, 3 and Infinite Worlds on my PS2 that is several decades old. At the very least I can upscale the resolution because despite how dated these games technically are, I still think these games look great!
It's a massive shame they took the original songs out. Like I know they were plagiarised, but... damn... it's just not as good. :/
Btw you earned a new sub! ;)
I wish we got a PC release as you know the modders would have fixed the issues
I have understood that the HD collection does have two versions of it out there, one with the original music, and one that was hastily re-released when the plagiarism scandal became apparent. Not sure which one is more common of the two.
I think the same applies to Raging Blast 2, the initial released version of that game had a different soundtrack, while a re-issue just switched over to Tenkaichi 2's soundtrack.
Wait, there's a version of the HD Collection with the original music?
@@valen2006 I mean, I remember when it came out and that was the main music, but then it was reprinted and changed which made people really pissy.
I didn't personally buy the HD collection so I can't confirm it with my own game, but I'm pretty sure this was somewhat common knowledge when the collection came out. If this is now a surprise to people, then I'm guessing the HD prints with the original music must be a minority of the copies.
â@@valen2006 no there's only the one replaced ost for the hd collection. Not two
@@jamighanijr8128 Ah well.
You're mixing the games up. Raging blast 2 was the only one with different versions the original one that came out before the scandal. But once they caught on it, they replaced the music with the Budokai Tenkaichi 2 ost the Japanese just has the kicuchi music. Like how some of dbz kai had his music then replaced it with the og z music. While the hd collection came out in 2012. There's no way the collection version has the PS2 music unless it's not real and a mod or it's just the original music
Yeah it sucks Budokai 2 wasn't there, it was my first ever DBZ game so I have a little bias towards it, plus the music, whether plagiarised or not, I don't care, I loved it in all 3 games. Plus Warrior from an unknown land is in my gym playlist to this day, it helps me lift heavy!
Hey congrats on 10k I hope you reach higher and higher heights and go "EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!!"
Out of nowhere I started thinking about this collection and just happen to find your channel, great video on a collection not very much talked about. I missed budokai 2 back in the day because only in that game I saw those types of what-if fusions and absortions.
Your advocation for Budokai 2 after all these years gives you my respect đ«Ą
I recall being given this as a gift and was disappointed they left out the second game and learning now there where even more games left out.
Is there such a thing as nostalgic disappointment?
If so I just experienced it.
The second I found out the âcollectionâ replaced the soundtrack, it was null and void to me. Some say plagiarized, others say heavily inspired, to me, they were fantastic and still live rent-free in my head, especially when I'm reading the manga. Flying around as Vegeta with "flight in the dark side" playing is still a 10/10 experience, and to remove that is a sin.
Whenever a company has the idea of making a âcollectionâ of something but choose to not make it an actual collection will always baffle me!
I would be honored to have my music be plagiarized for a dragon ball game someday⊠btw the part where you mentioned the goated Stratovarius made my day too!
This is why I just emulate things.
Gotta say, i get why Budokai 2 is not in the Collection...but why they left Infinite world escapes to my understanding.
Because its the same game as b3. Way to similar to also put that in the collection
capsule obtain is so fire wish they didnt take it out
As someone that loves budokai 2 Iâm disappointed without it being included
Man, Iâve been wanting to get the HD collection for a while now recently went back and played all the games on my ps3, now I just wanna earn trophies for the game. Bummer 3s opening theme is gone, literally my favorite song from the whole series.
I'm praying since they're making Budokai Tenkaichi 4 that maybe they'll at the very least remaster budokai 3. It was always my favorite out of the dbz games during the PS2 era. Great video, by the way
I remember when the Budokai collection; I was frustrated that Budokai 2 wasnât included and all the original music of Budokai 3 was changed (I understand why due to the original composer plagiarized other songs), but at that time it was annoying.
Dumb question, what is the background music called?
I still find it funny to this very day people still think Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi are the same games. Also burst limit was a PS3 game. I also hope they keep fan favourite features like beam clashing and battle damage to the arena when they bring out Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
I love your sense of humor. Specially since you started appearing on camera. Great content
I didnt know you were updating today! Man that makes today so much better! Thanks for all you do!
Just wanted to say , randomly found your channel and binged loads of videos, great content!
I absolutely love these trips down memory lane. Great content!
The replace soundtrack is the reason why I didn't bother picking this collection up. I don't care if it was stolen music or not I grew up listening to this music and it was Kick-Ass without it it just feels like a butchered product.
the soundtrack hurts a lot, but hey, at least he decided to rip off some true bangers for the game
It's been so long since I played the hd collection, and even longer since I played the original 1-2,
I don't fully remember the feel of the differences.
Nah the old Budokai 3 Track was elite and Iâm mad itâs not in any new Dragonball game
I remember buying this for my PS3 10 years ago and being as disappointed as you...
Sadly they kinda didnât have a choice when it comes to replacing the soundtrack since it was a legal issue. At least they used some songs from Tenkaichi 2. I love Tenkaichi 2âs soundtrack.
Thanks for this great vid. I always hated how Budokai 2 was cut as it was my favorite. Also I loved the level up theme from Budokai 3 and Everybody dance by chic! Cheers
Budokai 2 is my favorite Budokai game đą
Great days when this channel uploads
I loved how in budokai 2 goku could have both his spirit bomb and super spirit bomb and his transformations
And Also Potara Vegito and Potara Gokule
I just bought this game on eBay. Never played budokai 1 or 3 so I think it make sense for me to buy.
They should port these and tenkaichi to ps5 and series x because the originals are getting way too expensive
I forgot how ugly Budokai 2's HUD was
I would love if they made an updated Budokai collection with Budokai 1, Budokai 2, Budokai 3, Infinite World, Shin Budokai, and Shin Budokai 2/Another Road. Such a compilation only exists in my dreams though
someday, someone will run out of money, and the respective copyrights will be cheap enough, and they will make your dream a reality.
Itâs funny, I looked this up because I never played budokai 1 or 3 and I loved the second game, i have a ps3 but never knew they remastered these and was like wtf, why isnât budokai 2 in the collection? then I found this video đ great video
Iâm not complaining sure Iâm disappointed that all the music is gone and Budokai 2 is missing but the trophies/achievements were fun to earn
It's a shame that they changed all of the soundtrack from budokai 3 on ps2 to the HD version due to plagiarism they were so iconic
Budokai 2 was my absolute favorite and it will never cease to depress me that they never included itđđđ
My favorite stolen OST was the Inside Buu theme.
One thing you mentioned but didn't talk enough about was lack of proper online PvP.
The rest is spot on, but damn having B3 native on PS3 and *not* having online was a sin. B3 would be as famous as Bt3 nowdays if they did bother to give it online.
I love Budokai 2 because it's what my friend had and we played it so much. It was my first true introduction to Dragon Ball Z.
really wish he was found out after the collection was released
Thank you for your content. It's comfy, like an old VHS home recording of DBZ from the old days.
Just completed DBZ BT3 analysis of yours. Loved it. And soon as the video was over I saw this recent upload by you.
Kingdom hearts music, budokai restrospective, shitting on the HD collection... That's a sub!
It's funny cause I hear people hate on this collection a lot but because this was my first experience with a console DB game (and no prior knowledge of anything regarding the series) I absolutely love these versions lol
same im just happy i get to play the game
The fact that they didnt use the gamecube version of Budokai 1 as the base for the remaster is the worst part. It was the objectively better version.
I keep forgetting these were on GameCube.
I didnt mind Budokai 2 not being there because it sucked. What hurt me was how they replace all the awesome epic music with shitty random mis-match music.
Infinite World should have been there tho... thats what i was looking for the most when it was the HD collection announced.
I'll always find the funniest thing about Kenji Yamamoto's music theft is that for YEARS hard core weebs would absolutely blast the dubbed DBZ movies nu-metal butt rock soundtrack for being completely unfitting for DBZ. Only for Yamamoto to Actually to have been using songs featured in the movies.
Biggest example is "Ultimatum" in budokai 3 which is basically a 1-1 of "The Game" by disturbed. Which was used for the coolers revenge movie.
Budokai 2 is my fav of the trilogy ngl
yea seems like just lazy tbh. what's the point in making a remaster collection if you only remake 2 games in the series? hopefully someday we can get a proper collection
Oh it missing Shin Budokai 1 and 2 to as well
One thing about DBZ video games is they almost all had super memorable music.
I played Budokai 2 once at a friend's house and I only wanted the collection for it. Luckily found a GC copy a few years back, but I don't have my GC or Wii currently. Shame it's so hard to rip GC discs.
yup as soon as i heard they replaced the soundtrack I decided to never touch this collection. budokai 2 is also severely underrated, it's a gem.
I love your videos, I appreciate you making them
The startup music was plagiarized?! Kenji Yamamoto you low down bastard....now I'm forced to play the PS2 versionđ
Someone please help. I have the HD Collection for PS3 Iâve completed every dragon universe got every character and every stage and I still canât get everyoneâs ultimate moves from the shop. What am I doing wrong ?
Put Challengers side by side with Hunting High and Low by Stratovarius and TELL ME that shit wasnât plagiarized lmao
Still a banger tho and miss the soundtrack :(
Are you going to do infinite world
love your videos, dude! keep it up
maybe do One Piece or Bleach games!
I can accept the music debacle because that's just how business works, and there ain't no way they're gonna track down all the artists Kenji plagiarized and ask if they can still use the music. Even if the dans would do all the tracking for them.
Though what really does bother me about the music, was that they were poorly chosen for many scenes in the HD Collection, not even matching the same tone/vibe as the cutscenes.
If theyd just bring it back with no censorship all 3 or even making a Burst Limit 2
I hate buying capsules in budokai 3. Thy dnt remove ultimate moves, thts been purchased. I have to keep hoping, someone good will pop up
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Custom as always been there for 2P IF they had a memory card to put into the second slot from their own save file. Not necessary on the HD collection, and impossible to do.
Ahhhh, you didn't play that Namek theme song, Challengers....I forget what inspired it?
Love the background music choices for this video!
00:27 I fucking love your kind of humor đ
And, YES, not having Budokai 2 was a clear signal that this HD was a easy cash grab to rip off over the fans (me included)!
From what I've read in the past, Budokai 2 was excluded due to the "what if" fusions being owned by Atari...and we know how Atari ended up. As for the others, I think it has to due with them being not as memorable. Burst limit released on the PS3 era, so I assume they found it unnecessary
Totally incorrect. Atari doesnât own anything. Those âwhat-ifâ fusions existed in the Japanese and European versions which Atari had nothing to do with (they were only the publisher for the US version) and those fusions have since appeared in Dragon Ball Heroes which Atari also could have nothing less to do with.
âWHERES THE LAMB SAUCEâ made me burst into laughter. Thank you Hidden! Love your content, and I always hit the like button!
Excellent length to align with my lunch break at work. So ty for accounting for that.
I fond it interesting how this collection didn't get released in Japan
Loving the FFXIII-2 OST in the background
Budokai 2âs story mode sucked but they still shouldâve included it into the collection regardless
God damn the budokai 3 opener was my favorite out of all the games
bring all 3 back and with the original music!!!! i had to play those games with the music off and i had to play budokai tracks on YT while i played.
lame, i know.
I loved B2 so much I actually got all of the breakthrough capsules, and is you know, you know
To be fair, I don't think that the statement Bamco made about Budokai 2 being excluded was necessarily *bad*, (other than the fact that, realistically, Budokai 3 wasn't the final version of these games, Infinite World was), it's just that they probably should've been more transparent about why *exactly* they left anything out at all. That being, they just didn't want to put the resources into doing everything.
It would sound bad to say it, but they might as well have just been honest and said "We didn't want to devote resources to doing all 3/4 games, and we also didn't just want to remaster 1 and 3 and sell them separately"
I guess it's possible that there might've been another reason, ala, they didn't have access to enough of the original resources of 2 to make it worth it or something, but that would be kinda surprising considering that it at least doesn't seem to have been a problem for 1 and 3, though I guess something like that could've had something to do with Infinite World, who knows.
Infinite World would have made up for the lack of Budokai 2. It would have given me a way tonplay it without going bankrupt.
I first heard the Level Up theme in the Shin Budokai shop, man the nostalgia.
I never bought this collection cause it just seemed off
if i did the hd collection i would've added the original trilogy, both the shin budokai games and infinite world maybe the dragon ball evolution game since it does use the budokai fighting system 7 games if you do add evolution 6 even if you don't add evolution
Iâve completed both games but I want to buy it again so I can re-completed them
