  • At one point or another, many Christians wrestle with this question. What type of music is appropriate for me to listen to? Should I get rid of music that is not Christian?
Join us for a conversation between Jamie Janosz (Today in the Word managing editor) and the author of the Today in the Word devotional Bible study Sing to the Lord, Dr. Brian Lee. We will discuss:
    • Does Christian music have a unique purpose?
    • Should it matter if the artist or a musician is a believer?
    • Is there any music that Christians should not engage in?
    • Is it okay to use “secular” types of music in the church service?
    • What advice might you give someone who is struggling to honor God with their choice of music?
If you have not already signed up for this free Bible study, we hope you do so today! Download our free app or request a daily email. Dr. Lee is so right on in asking the Spirit to examine our heart and motivation when listening to music. I love Dr. Lee's definition of music. I remember being a youth pastor and having parents drop in while I was playing DC Talk for the kids and looking at their horrified expressions. It was preaching to the kids in a language they would listen to. Now I play on a worship team trying to get a message across in church through music that might get through where the sermon doesn't. It's about discernment in hearing God's voice in how we communicate His love and grace to people. Great discussion

Yes. Such excellent examples of how music can be used to help connect people to God and communicate His truth!

We get the Word for Music, from the Greek , to Muse, to think about what it means! Oh I just Love that Mr. Lee!!!!!!!! ❤️ Deeper in Christ, makes All the difference in the LIFE He Gives us! 🎶 🙌 🎶 I have suffered many evils, from many people, because they don’t Do This……… 😫
As a song writer, first song, Given to me at age 10, as I grew, writing songs through my teen years and did not know to guard myself from the worlds ways, when He Radically Saved me at age 28, literally from a force tormenting me and trying to pull me Down to Hell through my Living Room floor, that I did not know were demons at the time, Jesus afterward, took me to the book of original music He had given me and started showing me, the difference between His Kingdom and the devils kingdom.
He Said, His is The Doctrine of Light and Eternal Life and Truth. Many of the songs, except a couple, did not Glorify Him and He Said they were the doctrine of darkness and death and lies that lead to the destruction of my SOUL!!! 😱 💀 😱
So, I sat there changing the songs with Jesus, from Darkness to LIGHT, that Glorifies Him, His Father and the Holy Sprit of Truth!!!I
I STOPPED writing songs that glorified the ways of the VAIN FLESH and the LIES of this world! 🙌 🕊️ 🙌
Blessings and Protection in Christ from evil, be upon your ALL!

I think some considerations were left out of the discussion in the video.
Music is a uniter, it brings people together and connects hearts . What a great evangelism tool! Imagine a nonbeliever connecting with a mature Christian who could walk alongside them and help them put the words, but also their lives in a more God-Centered context. It really is a loaded question, that does boil down to the heart.

Yes - music really does connect people, and we agree that there is so much more to say! That is why we are so thankful for Dr. Lee's Bible study this month. It really puts music in a much bigger context for the Christian.

I still listen to some secular music from the 80s & 70s but no death metal. I just sing along and change some of the lyrics to glorify Jesus.

I love the secular songs they changed the Words to in the movies Sister Act!!! 🥰
The people that get saved out of Heavy Metal, think they can change the Words and they are okay and they are Not. There are still the dark tones and screaming like DEMONS, Holy Words!!!
They should be ashamed of themselves thinking that is okay. They’re rebellion doesn’t want to give it up and CHANGE from that Lifestyle of Wildness too, the Tameness of Christ.
      👏 🎶 ✝️ 🎶 👏
      Blessings

@@foxecarpentress4964 You are so right. The LORD called me with a song. He healed me. Moved me. And then, The Holy Spirit gave me a song. He put a new song in my mouth. A victory song, like Moses, Deborah and Barak, The Morning Stars, Jesus. I then dig deep into music and put together an 11 hour documentary for my family on music. People have no idea how deep, dangerous, and dark it goes. From altering brain waves, beats calling demons, automatic handwriting lyrics, alter egos, rituals on stage, and so much more. Beware. We beed vigilance and discernment in this hour. There are bands noted above that have all the signs of darkness. I've researched them. Just because it says "Christian", doesn't mean it is. Who are these musicians? Half say they don't even play their instruments on stage as something takes them over. What symbols are on their album covers and videos? CCM says they act just as bad as secular bands backstage, then come out uniting people in Jesus. Even if lyrics change, beats don't. They alter brain waves. Many based on voodoo.

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with that. There are some deep dark tones in some rock music and screaming demonic singing with it!
