Is it okay to call God my co-pilot? | Brad Baurain Interview

  • Today’s view of God is friendly and casual. We like to think of God as our buddy, our friend, even our co-pilot. While we do agree that God loves us, and God can be the most faithful friend we can ever have, we must give Him the respect and reverence He requires.
Godly fear gives us a proper view of God.
Listen in to this conversation between Jamie Janosz (Today in the Word managing editor) and the author of the study Fear the Lord, Dr. Bradley Baurain. We discuss:
    • Have we made God too friendly?
    • What are we missing when we get too cozy in our notion of God?
    • How did the coming of Jesus change the way people approach God?
    • What have we lost in our modern-day Christian view of God?
    • What is the value of having a proper view of God?

Thank you SO much for these encouraging words. I am so blessed and enhanced in my walk with our Lord partly because of the hymns of the faith I grew up with in the Brethren chapel. I find myself singing them throughout the day, stanzas coming back to me that make me smile and warm my heart. ☺️

Old hymns are the best (but we're biased!). Thank you for these encouraging words to us!

    Matthew 11:29-30
    King James Version
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light
Yeshua asks that we take on HIS yoke. That we step into his cockpit with Him as the pilot.
unfortunately many often get this wrong with the belief that God is simply there to come into our life to help us when we need Him.
We need to live Gods way on his narrow path which is what Matthew 11 invites us to do. Yeshua is indeed the ‘pilot’ or more accurately our Shepherd - who leads us !! Still waters by.
    Love 💕 in Him 🙏

I always understood this saying as meaning that God is ALWAYS with me. He does GIVE ME A CHOICE of how and where I “fly the plane” but He is always with me to guide and to correct me if necessary and that in no way means that he is of lesser importance which is impossible; just the opposite.

You make a good point! As you've said, we have choices, free will, and so we often choose our direction. The call with "fearing the Lord" is to recognize that we need His guidance in all things.
