Thanks mate, i used this on some old white sage seeds and one of them sprouted already.🎉
Amazing!! Thanks for sharing your update with us!
@@PlantCellTechnology 2 of 6 came out eventually but i saw in some artikle that they are tricky to sprout. I already made 2 cuttings and rooted them in tap water placing them in a window where the sun comes up and they only get morning sun.
That's great. At least you succeded in getting two of them to sprout@@timbabila
- number seed packets and test tubes appropriately
- 10ml 3% hydrogen peroxide +190ml of distilled water + 1g of sugar
- shake for 10 minutes?
- seeds soak 24/48 hours in the freeform solution
- carefully decanter liquid with partially opened lid
- move seeds with sterilised tweezers
- place seeds in tissue culture or soaked towels before transplanting to soil if growth isn't great?
Questions, the test tube lids are air tight and the only oxygen is from the hydrogen peroxide? The water used for the seeds, simply discard each time or is there a better way of recycling the infused water? Size of tubes used?
If you use a pressure cooker to steralise your tubes in the rack do they need to be a particular type?
This is all GREAT information. I especially like that you broke the formula down to Ounces and Tablespoons. I multiplied that by 5 and made a batch that would just about fit in a 48oz glass bottle. Then I use that bottle to pour over the seeds to soak in 4 different jars and store the remainder of the mixture in a cabinet away form ALL light. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS SO EASY! AND I love that you mentioned it's a good practice for old AND new seeds.
Thank you so much. We try our level best to make tissue culture information easy and accessible for our culturists. Happy that it's working for you all.
i like the added freedom units
I'm gonna try this. I'm having trouble with older baker creek pepper seeds. A few years old and 0% germination.. frustrating because they're not cheap seeds
Go for it!
Have you run a side-by-side with him without the sugar? My first impression would be that all the energy for germination is in the seed itself. Cheers
Yes, but best results with sugar.
Great video! In the cannabis industry there are tons of people using carbonated water to germinate old seeds. Have you ever used this method and can you explain how it would help in assisting germination of older seeds??
We haven't tried the method on Cannabis yet. Francisco only works with houseplants, carnivorous plants, and desert plants. But, you can check it by yourself, as the method doesn't require much time and involves only a few ingredients. :)
İ am trying right now other wise seeds will be wasted
@@salihkayadibi9023 did this work for your cannabis seeds? i got some old seeds I can't get to sprout
Looking nice bro
Thanks!
nice..
I have seen and used H2O2 for the scarification of seeds. I have not left them until they germinated. I will have to give that a try. Shave days or weeks off germination would be excellent, especially for peppers in zones with a short season and limited space indoors to start early.
I am curious, though, what was in the cups he transferred the sprouted seeds to. Was that just water, or was that also the solution they sprouted in.
If it was just water he transferred them to, would the solution harm the sprouted seedlings if they were left in it.
In the second video, these questions are still not answered either. Please clarify. Thanks.
Apparently, I did not understand him at some point. I believe he said that as he was removing the seeds from the sprouting solution, he was placing them in tissue culture.
The germinated seeds were transferred to a suitable tissue culture media.
Thank you for your expertise on sprouting seeds! Where can I get the test tubes? I have morning glory sprouting. It looks like you lay the sprouted seeds on top of the soil. Do I do this with all , any seed?
you can purchase them from our website: plantcelltechnology.com/collections/all
❤thank You for sharing this
Happy to know that you liked it!
What is the original concentration of H2O2 prior to dilution? I have seen 35% food grade, 6% pharmaceutical grade, and common 3%. For whatever reason, your video doesn't specify (but it's very important to know). Thank you for making this video.
Hi,
We will confirm it with Francisco and let you know.
@@PlantCellTechnology Thank you. I'm so glad I found this channel!
@@dingo5842 Glad, you found our channel helpful! Also, waiting on Francisco's response. Will update you as soon as we get the answers.
Start watching (listening) at 1:00. He mentions 3% hydrogen peroxide. It goes very fast, easy to miss that.
@@PlantCellTechnology I am sorry to say that you are incorrect here. It is narrated in the video to dilute 3 % solution further in 1: 19 ratio.
How did you do with Rocoto or Carolina Reaper. Seeds that take a long time to germinate?
I have a few packets of seeds from 1974 and 1977. Beets, cabbage, carrots one other I think radishes. Would love some advice
Hi, what advice are you looking for specifically?
Hi what kind of sugar to use brown or white
You can even use normal table sugar.
Hi Francisco,
Hope you and your team are fine?
Thanks for sharing.
I use this method for orchids seeds.
What you do if you get contaminations in your flasks due to seeds sterilization.
You sterilize again?
Thanks for your reply.
Daniel Jheelan
Thanks so much! Resterilization would be good for the plants that were in the same container as those contaminated. But, if they are already contaminated, then its recommended to get rid of them instead of sterilizing.
Hey Francisco, love the video. Question, did you use your general protocol for the peppers?
Hi Elicia,
This is with hydrogen peroxide. Which general protocol are you referring to?
Is distilled water important?
Yes, for tissue culture. Especially if you are doing it for commercial use.
How many days can we keep the seeds in this solution?
Until you see them sprouting. Like small radicles coming our of it.
Depends on the kind of seeds, delicate medicinal I have found best results with 24 to 48/hrs. The secret sauce is genetics/temperature and timing, don’t let it stay submerged once the reticule emerges, before it pops open is best to remove from solution👍🏻
Great Video! I had one question, would this method work for very small seeds? I'm about to sow some old begonia seeds but the seeds are very small. They are about 2-9mm big and I wanted to see if this would work since I have mixed results with germinating in the past
Absolutely! Our students have done this method with several different sizes of seeds, even like the begonias! Definitely give it a try!
@@PlantCellTechnology Awesome, thanks for the help
Thank you so much. Can i use rain water instead of distilled water. Am going to try it on my foxtail palm seeds.
No. You can't use rain water or even normal water. You need to use distilled water in tissue culture applications.
What is the strength of the hydrogen peroxide solution?
it's 3% H2O2, diluted in 19:1 that will be 19 parts water and 1 part h2o2.
Solid!
Thanks!
Can you add Gibberellic acid acid to hydrogen peroxide solution and if so how many grams of Gibberellic acidd powder to mix to the hydrogen peroxide solution ?
Depends on what you want to achieve with that. The protocol we shared works great for the germination of seeds.
We didn't try adding different hormones or chemicals. But, we'll let you know if we perform any such experiment.
@@PlantCellTechnology Thanks a lot for such a useful video.
What type of gel media, are there any PGRs? I have seen GA3 used to help germination but that was a seed soak, similar to the peroxide, not used during and after germination.
Hormone-free MS media
Would this work with dried tangerine seeds? I saved some seeds from my Grandparent's tangerine tree in 2020 at the last funeral. We grew up eating the tangerines straight from their tree. We are starting a homestead in June and I would like to try to plant them.
This has worked with all the seeds we have worked with, so it should work. You can first try it with a couple of seeds to see how it goes and then try it on a larger batch.
Hi , I’m Jason from Australia
I’ve been watching your videos and subscribe to your channel, but I’m still haven’t found anything regarding media and technical for cymbidium orchid green or dry pod plus mericlone with polyploid added colchicine or oryzalin to media . But most of the flask media in Australia that I have seen added charcoal.
It would greatly appreciated if there was videos covering these topics, as I’m in learning stage of doing my own flasking with a still air box with basic equipment.
Hi, Thanks for watching our videos. We'll definitely try to bring videos to your suggestions. So, stay tuned!
Hi Jason,
I use 3% H2O2 for 5mn with dry orchids seeds.
Butter to work with green pod as you can yse bleach to sterilize outside and without damaging the seeds.
Daniel Jheelan from France
I have 50 year old Marigold seeds that belonged to my Mom. Will this process work for them and if so, do the times and measurements still remain the same for soaking?
Yes, it would be the same process. However, we can not guarantee germination.
Is this method applicable to oil palm seeds and coconut?
We didn't try the method with those seeds as we didn't have any access to them, however, you can give it a try yourself. The method only requires water, hydrogen peroxide, and sugar.
If seeds aren’t old can we still use this formula?
Sure. Give it a try. It just requires three ingredients,: water, hydrogen peroxide, and sugar.
Thank you for a very useful video. What is the percentage strength of hydrogen peroxide that you use? Is it 3% or 6%?
It's 3% hydrogen peroxide
@@PlantCellTechnology thank you very much.
So 190 ml equals 6.43 oz, distilled water, correct? Ill be doing some rare seeds, expensive! This was suggested by the grower. 😊thanks for the guidance 😊
That's absolutely amazing! and, yes 190 milliliters is approximately equal to 6.42 oz.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If tap or bottle water is used i also saw results in that the seeds sprout after a day or two days
In tissue culture, you need to use sterilized distilled water as the tap contains some elements that can disturb the concentration of the elements in the media.
Tap works for me every time. Some people get too excessive like using sterilized tweezers when non-sterilized tweezer will do the exact same thing. These things grow up in dirt. Stop it.
Yeah also check the date seeds from the time of Jesus Christ came to earth that sprouted and now the sell the fruit in israEL. It was thousands of years old and it sprouted!
@@jayfeely7239It doesn't work like that. what you don't realize is that when you make a media with sugar and nutrients it is highly susceptible to mold and bacteria. Imagine fungus in an enclosed space with no competition and literally the perfect environment for it to thrive.
If you leave food at room temperature it goes bad within hours and you will see nasty mold within days, it's the same thing. It would kill your plants. Potted plants aren't fed foods directly like TC plants that's the difference.
@@jayfeely7239I guess you didn't see that he is talking about tissue culture
Hi, great video!
I have question about disinfecting the seeds.
I use 15min soaking using 10% bleach + soap solution for disinfecting seeds now.
(I heard that is the standard method?)
I mainly do this because my batch of seeds have high probability of fungi development.
Would hydrogen peroxide do both disinfecting seeds and revitalizing them?
Or, should I do my normal method of disinfection and hydrogen peroxide treatment later?
Please reply to this question regarding disinfecting the seeds..... thanks.
🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
aren't hydrogen peroxide a type of bleach?
@@JoRoBoYo Sort of but totally different chemicals. If you use bleach you probably will kill the seeds. Don't use bleach.
It seems that you didn't rinse the seed or germinated seeds with water after soaked in H2O2, correct?
Yes, that's correct.
Did you say "freedom units" at 1:15?
yes, that's right!
Hey friend does that method works for collards seeds?
We didn't try the method with those seeds , however, you can give it a try yourself. The method only requires water, hydrogen peroxide, and sugar.
I have well water. If I boil, sterilize, and cool the water would that be sufficient instead of distilled water? My water is very hard with lots of minerals in it. What are your thoughts? Is it bad to spray the seeds as they grow with your solution? I want to grow hydroponically. I know odors can occur. I've seen others use hydrogen peroxide as they grow too. I plan on changing the solution daily.
Boiling the water will not remove the solids.
Now, if you are growing plants in hydroponics, the water needs to be treated anyway. Hard water with lots of minerals is usually not desired in hydroponics, as the minerals will unbalance the water and nutrients.
I'm only growing wheat grass. I did boil my water. It's slow going but it's growing. I did soak it with hydrogen peroxide and added sugar like you did. I think at least 70% of the seeds started. I used another formula of 1 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide to 1 cup water with the sugar. I think I soaked them for about 32 hours. I also rinsed them in the sink twice daily with warm water. No mold or nasties showing. No bad smells either.
@@donnah.7346 That's great then! right.
@@PlantCellTechnology Yes, your ideas and video were very helpful. I'm wondering if I should get some liquid hydroponic plant food. I'd only need a cup or two of water. Trying to figure out how much to use will be my problem. I hope they have good instructions. I will probably only need a few drops.

What strength hydrogen peroxide, please. I have 35% food grade. What is the mixing ratio, please 🙏
Don’t take my word for it but read it was 2/3 start 1/3 hydrogen peroxide. What I did I just used water and sprinkled a very small amount of hydrogen peroxide into paper towel for a tiny little boost.
Walmart 3% peroxide 6 bottles $6. best buy!
3% H2O2 ?
We used 3% H2O2 in our previous video of "seed germination using H2O2". So, he is telling the combination is a bit different from that one.
I have several hundred 3-4 yr old daylily seeds. They have been in refrigerator for three or more years. Some I have been able to germinate, but most will turn moldy and not sprout. I want to try your method using the solution with the sugar in it to see it that improves the germination rate.... One other thing... PLEASE slow down on your speech in the videos...
