    Solas is one of the most intriguing and tragic characters I've ever seen in a game, it's so awesome to learn more about post-trespasser stuff plus the big picture of DA fleshed out in book form. I seriously love the lore surrounding his story!!! (and all the tin foil theories lol)
    Is the dread wolf form in the fade another part of himself? How does he live there permanently? It's interesting he is using red lyrium even after what happened at Redcliffe. And yeah, he must be desperate if he's dressing up as an Orlesian bard....major lol. omg and the fresco!! As always, you provide the best content Jackdaw! My biggest question is whether Solas will use the red lyrium idol and become corrupted. I feel we were given hints to his decisions through the constant emphasis on his pride through this book. He keeps mentioning how he is nothing but a prideful mage. Despite what we know about red lyrium and how it corrupts those who use it, because Solas is prideful and powerful he will probably thing he can beat the corruption. Especially if it can be used to reach his goal. I don’t know if he’d stoop that low but he wants the idol for a reason. If anyone could combat it’s influence it would be Solas, but I fear we will have to save him from a corrupted version of himself. There was also the emphasis on the idol in the trailer and the picture they gave us (where Solas is holding a hand up to the dread wolf form) which all hinted red lyrium would shape the game. Just a theory!

    so I just found this channel (great going by the way), so I may be a little late on the uptake, but I had a thought.
    On "Callback" the description of the wolf as being scaly and dragon-like, one could assume is because of Mythal's soul, as the Evanuris were the only ones allowed to have a dragon form. However, seeing as Ghilan'nain tricked a slave of Dirthamen to "change in the shape of the Gods" (I'm paraphrasing but was something along those lines) you could say a dragon is not a form that is *that* hard to obtain; just not allowed to someone who is not a Evanuris.
    On "The Dread Wolf Take You" Solas--under his ruse--mentions seeing "the Warden-Commander talking to a hooded figure" and how he recognizes the voice of the figure as Divine Victoria. If the books, like the other DA media, follows the default world state then that would mean that the Warden-Commander is the Hero of Ferelden, and the Dark Ritual was performed by Alistair.
    So, what if the figure is not a disfigured wolf-lizard because of Mythal's soul, but because of _Urthemiel's_ soul?

    “Dread wolf take you “ fan art is still happening ;) it’s the biggest digital art piece I’ve done so it’s just taking me quite a while.
    That said. Just wanted to share a theory about Solas. I think.... I think I may have enough pieces to put the beggings of a picture of what Solas is. I think..... Solas is the name of an elf and a spirit wisdom that is joined. I think that’s one of the reasons for the characters of Anders and Justice in DA 2. We meet Anders in DA 1 dlc .. and Justice... as separate characters. That way when we meet them as a voluntary joined possession....we get to see the transition of both characters as they slowly over time become 1 single character. We see that this is not like an abomination possession where a demon stays a demon and traps the mind of the mage or whoever in a separate part of their mind, so that it’s not a shared existence. We see the Avar tribes do voluntary possession with the understanding between both spirit and apostate that they will remain separate and the spirit will leave before they become to intertwined. Anders and Justice are past that point and have become the beginnings of a new entity that is still able to view each personality as separate... but Anders is noticing that it’s more and more less so. They are merging to become a new singular mind and being. We also see that justice has the ability to take on a slightly altered form when in the fade. So.... I think this.... this is what happened with Solas. Solas was once 2 beings...an elf with another name....and a spirit of wisdom. Mythal gave the opportunity for “Wisdom” to posses a willing elf. And so they became over the hundreds and thousands of years... he became... Solas. A union of an elf and a spirit of wisdom and not just any spirit of wisdom.... one of the powerful spirits. This is why Solas is accepted by both god pantheons. The forgotten ones ARE powerful spirits/demons. And the evenuris gods are elves. And so he is a member of both. When Mythal was killed, his spirit of wisdom side became an angry pride demon. The pride demon can take the form of a wolf in the fade.
    I think this is supported by his surprise by Cole becoming essentially a human... if you pick the Varric route and make Cole more human. Solas states he never thought it possible. Why would he think this if he himself had become an elf? Solas is a possession union. There was an elf body for the wisdom to inhabit. (Ps... this may be what the red lyrium statue is depicting... an elf and a spirit being merged together by mythal. ;)

      @serielmcleod1900 Před 4 lety +9

      The writer of Solas also said in an interview that when Solas talked to the nightmare spider , the spider says “your pride is responsible for all of this”. The main thing I took away from that is.... the nightmare said “your pride” as in “your pride demon”. As if it’s a separate thing or a specific part of Solas he’s attacking... not Solas himself. So I think he’s telling elf side Solas that his spirit/demon he is intertwined with is the part at fault. Also Solas is able to shut Cole out of his mind on command. So he is able to switch his thoughts from his elf side to his spirit/demon side on the fly. Cole can read people thoughts but not spirit thoughts. Not like he can with people. Peoples emotions come with attachments to images and experiences... so he doesn’t read their thought... he reads the emotion that he can understand (pain, hurt, frustration, anger) . Spirits seem to only have emotion without attachment to experience. They are emotion in the moment. So Solas become wisdom/pride and Cole loses images to experience. This is why Solas also I think disapproves rash action. He approves wisdom and thinking through things. And disapproves being prideful and making choices based on passion and emotion without thought. He himself has made terrible mistakes as Pride... and doesn’t like to see that reflection in others.
      Anyways..lol... tinfoil off. Back to art :) thanks for the great vids.

      @@serielmcleod1900 I think you may be very right (in addition I remember that Solas and the wolf in tarot cards and frescos are two separate beings). Solas being in a symbiosis with a spirit\demon can explain why he depicts the idol as 2 figures instead of 3.
      I still think that the crowned figure is Mythal and it is also correlated with the descriptions of the idol: "a god mourning her sacrifice", "a crowend figure who comforted the other", we all know that the dread wolf was pretty close whith Mythal and who knows maybe even a romance was involved between them. We know so little about their relationship, so maybe even "a couple" and "2 lovers hugging" is a correct view on the idol. Also it says that the figures are too thin to be anyone else but elves.
      Now I'm starting to think that there is a possibility that Solas and Mythal were lovers, and the death of a loved one could make his other side go twisted as a very strong form of emotion which had a great impact on doing so. So that's why maybe it was so important for him to do something and punish those who were responsible. And the female Lavellan as a love interest for Solas may also remind him that he somehow betrayes Mythal and he acts so nervous and going back and forth in a relation with her through all of the dai (not only because of his plan to destroy Thedas). I know that it can be also a total bullshit, but I've never even thought of Solas and Mythal as a couple until this moment. Just a thought.
      Can't wait to see if any of our theories are true and how close some of the intelligent people here got with their speculations.
      Aaand thanks a lot for the video Jackdaw! You keep my interest on point as always. Hi there from Russia and please stay safe all of you who's reading this!

      p.s.
      What if the idol aka sword is a weapon made by Solas to "lock" the fade (working like some sort of a key, it can also "open" the fade). it may explain why the idol shows us these figures (presumably Solas and Mythal), why it is so ancient looking, why it has so much power and why it's appeared in Thedas.

    • @serielmcleod1900
      @serielmcleod1900 Před 4 lety +6

      Fat Charlie , it all possible. The thing with Mythal is so strange, especially with their meeting at the end of inquisition. They seem more like friends than lovers in that moment. And Solas isn’t phased that Mythal is alive and walking around as a human witch of the wilds. Which makes me think that...... tinfoil on... lol... Mythal was also somehow union possession, being an elf and a spirit. Flemyth refers to her and Mythal being intertwined, much like Anders and Justice. That Mythal is a part of her like her heart is a part of her. Mythal is also all about revenge.... possibly making her a spirit of Justice turned into a demon of vengeance. So what if the elf Mythal was killed, but the spirit she was entwined with was able to survive the death, being a spirit, and so maintaned her memories and personality when she was entwined with her elven counterpart. So Flemyth both is and isn’t Mythal. And perhaps that’s why Solas still considers Flemyth a friend but not a lover, because the elf Mythal is dead. The other thing is this... Mythal the spirit of vengeance ,was drawn to Flemyth , I think, more so than just a random nobody who was wronged and needing justice/vengeance, because Flemyth suffered the same tragedy as Mythal. So being in love with someone who was not said to be her husband, but was tricked and murdered by her jealous supposed husband. Or however that story went. “She was betrayed as I was betrayed !”
      So perhaps Mythal’s god husband of myth (can’t recall his name) found out about her and Solas, and organized her murder.
      The tinfoil. It crinkles. Lol.
      Thanks for needing out with me :)
      With best wishes from Canada

      @@serielmcleod1900 oh I like your point of view. All of it can prove that Cole, the original Cole, experienced pretty much the same and indeed Solas lied that he didn't know it was possible for Cole to "become human". And I'm almost sure he lied that he had never seen anyone like him before. Then, when it comes to creatures like Anders it's always the swings.
      I mean Anders in one moment is his human self and the other is justice and I guess if you let the spirit possess you entirely, it will be only justice and the empty vessel. Also the glowing eyes could be an indicator, in Solas's case, which tells us who controls the body at the exact moment, just as it was with Anders.
      Osen, Flemeth's "boyfriend" was killed and she was captured. Also Andraste's fate is very similar to Mythal's, she also was betrayed (by her husband Maferath). I assume she was Mythal's vessel as well. If you look at Andraste's statue in Val Royeaux Concept Art, you can see that she has almost the same pose as the center figure of the idol has ( preview.redd.it/yerzibpj98c21.jpg?width=1482&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d1a2711ac8ee9e1b399b266a227a7f2a72b2fbb ). And what about the crown both Flemeth and Andraste plus the idol's figure share? (I'd like to add that Flemeth and Andraste are connected in their sexual appearance. I mean Flemeth is an old lady but she has rather impressive body. Andraste has the same energy, i mean people had to remove her statues because of them being too sexualized). To support a theme about spirits I want to add that there is a picture of little Andraste and a strange figure near her, with fade like elements on and all around its body and (!) a crown ( vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonage/images/2/27/Maker-new.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/185?cb=20140508144908&path-prefix=ru ). Now my tinfoil hat is on, right?
      My point is...
      You are not wrong to say that it is now not the original Mythal and Solas knows it. Remember in da2 she said something about her presence not being real (maybe all of them are not, as she doesn't really have an original body) and she just travels in her strange forms until she gets her revenge.
      Thank you too! It's always nice to brainstorm like that and not on my own, for a change. Hope you are doing good in Canada =^з^=

    I also hope there will be cameos. I guess I can get why there wouldn't be if Solas knows about past influential companions but they're influential for a reason, and like Varric in inquisition, some may not be able to stay idle while everything happens.

    What about the harrowings? Aren't those rituals premise to bind a spirit and not give in to temptation? Aren't all mages in circles implied in that threat over whomever tries to bind a spirit from the fade?

    Thanks for posting this. I have some points...
    1:40 You say this text could refer to ancient elves, an you could be right, but the text says no [vallaslin] on their face and normal Ferelden accent. This could mean a normal city elf who has gained confidence or even a Dalish elf with a Ferelden accent who has had their vallaslin removed by Solas. But yes, this could also refer to an ancient elvhen like Abelas who has had their vallaslin removed. Is the armor described in detail? It could just be Orlesian armor.
    Agents of Fen'Harel bite down on cyanide pills? I think I remember seeing that in Captain America: The First Avenger. Anyway, Yavana has a way of getting info from such agents. The new protag might as well, if BioWare goes with my suggestion of giving the new protag the ability to enter the Fade worlds of people, places, and things.
    Antaam female? No such thing. :)
    The "true name" thing is a reference to the Alistair comics when Rasaan was asking Isabela what her true name was.
    Seems like the Qunari will be a mixed bag in DA4. Antaam will attack, Ariqun will help stop Solas.
    Didn't Solas petrify the dwarf and Nevarran mage too at the end when Charter identified him?
    I don't like how it states Solas told the Inquisitor of his plan in a moment of weakness, or that he meant to wish the Inquisitor a peaceful life. What if Solas hated the Inquisitor?

    • @happythoughts4553
      @happythoughts4553 Před 4 lety +5

      Solas tottaly petrified all agents save Charter because she asked for her life.
      To your very last question, I think Bioware cannon is Inquisitor and Solas were friends (just like Alistair becoming King, rather than being dead or still a GW)

    • @AlleluiaElizabeth
      @AlleluiaElizabeth Před 4 lety +8

      I think the moment of weakness is more that Solas subconsciously doesn't want his own plan to succeed. He wants to be stopped, he does not want to actually BE a monster. But Solas has had millenia to crunch all the numbers and hasn't found a way out of this course of action. So he's hoping we will.
      If he likes the Inquisitor, he is hoping his friend/lover can prove him wrong and save him from having to go thru with it. If he dislikes the Inquisitor, its more of a disdainful challenge. Or maybe just Solas having an innate sense of fair play. Both? I dunno.
      Either way, Charter is right when she implies Solas is lying to himself about his stated motives for telling the Inquisitor.

    • @BelieveIt1051
      @BelieveIt1051 Před 4 lety +3

      @@AlleluiaElizabeth I think that was his rationale too. Or at the very least, he isn't sure if it's the right way and is willing to allow others to beat him if they can prove their way is better.

    I think we should note that the text says he doesn't like the Tevinter mages using *forbidden* blood magic. In the mortalitasi's tale she mentions that the dread wolf opens a rift and that is how his demon army floods in to the necropolis. So that means he can use the anchor at will and enter the face physically? Warning spoilers!
    From the Mortalitasi's tale---"at once we were awake, back in the cavern, and its walls shook and cracked, and then a rift of green light rent the ceiling open above us, and the demons that had accompanied The Dread wolf burst into the world in righteous fury, shining warriors with blades forged from the raw fade itself, and behind them dimly visible through the crackling light, the shadow of the beast itself, from whose slavering Jaws came the final words, roared not in anger, but from quiet contempt."
