Great review & pretty spot on with everything! I’m in Australia & I bought mine just over a month ago. Up until this R18 I too did not contemplate a cruiser, having ridden bikes like the S1000RR, S1000R, & a plethora of a lot more! Once I got on this that 345kg heft completely disappeared! It IS BRILLIANTLY nimble & don’t think it won’t give sports bikes a run. It does! I am over the moon with my R 18!!! Speaking of Harley/Indian riders. Last week on a quick blast with my mates, we’d stopped at a bakery here in central Victoria(Australia) for a coffee & bite to eat. All of a sudden about 8-10 boys on their Harley’s & Indians pulled up & basically encircled my R18, like sharks on a seal!😈🤣 They just drooled over it & took pics for about 20-30 minutes! Hardly a negative comment! I almost tripped over my coffee!😂 So the appeal is there to blokes like us who just enjoy their bikes! Hi Andrew , Ray from Victoria here … I recently purchased a new R18 First Edition and like yourself I’ve had many many bikes over the years and I’ve got to say the R18 is hypnotic and I cannot get enough time riding it and I can’t get the smile of joy off my face . Cheers

I test rode the R18 a couple of weeks ago and loved it :)
I’m pleased you were honest about it, it changed your mind after a few miles, just ride it for 500 smiles and I’m sure you’ll want one , some testers have talked a load of tosh about this bike just because they think they’re being cool. Well done 👍, - GAL

Good review , I have owned BMW flat twins .for over 30 years, there was a big out cry from BMW owners when the R1200GS Arrived in the early 2000s,. To compete with other brands the BMW designers were instructed to take weight out of future bikes and make them faster, the enthusiasts complained "wheres the character gone, wheres the road presence ? well its back in the R18 In bucket fulls , back to where it should be , Its not a Harley Honda replica but its own copy of its iconic 1930s R5 Motorcycle with its shaft drive, history aside the new one has Hill Start assist, reverse and a addictive , torque reaction from the flat twin engine .... Eddie R1150GS + R18 First addition
beautiful looking bike.... that engine looks like a giant jet engine... upgrade the handle bars to reduce the stretch, replace that hideous exhaust & hopefully there is a decent windshield available.... thx for the video gents... be safe.
Saw one delivered at my local dealer, looked good but I’ll stick with my GSA...
It’s more a locomotive than a sport bike.
Looks lovely but completely impractical for me. The switch gear also looks a bit out of place and more suited to the GS. Looking forward to hearing how you are getting on with the 850 GSA ✌🇬🇧
I like the standard foot warmers , but I agree it’s beautiful I just have no need for it
Hi Mark I agree it it beautiful but I think people with lots of disposable cash will buy them, just because. I will be surprised if you see many on the road... ride safe

Why does the speedo go upto 200mph? No fuel gauge? No cruise? Maybe version 2 will be better.
I went to look at one in person. Despite the minor anomalies (above) in person it looks stunning. Just holding my hands up, I misjudged it.

Couldn't find a muddier place :) Dealer will be pissed when you take the bike back...
That’s always a risk but here in Cornwall even the clean roads are muddy... Ride safe
The one this i her rider complain about that wasn't mentioned here is that the pegs ar too low and the exhaust too. If you ride in twistie roads, you'll definitely scrape pegs, possibly scrape exhaust. And the exhaust looks expensive…
Shhhhh! I did scrape the pegs but didn’t want to say.... Ride safe.
I’ve scraped my pegs slightly but to do the same to the exhaust would REALLY take some serious dipping or severe off camber corners!

24:08 There are actually, three modes "RAIN", ROLL and ROCK. BikeSanooK Bangkok we're are now reviewing the BMW Motorrad R18 First Edition. It's the rainy season the Thailand. I was in the RAIN mode yesterday. Rain and traffic jam near BKK international airport. Trucks, cars and buse everywhere. It lasted the afternoon and the evening. But, the RAIN mode was smooth.
