I work at BMW as a bike tech and everyone is always shocked when they start it up 😅 the initial rock is extreme! I hope that they take off as I really really love them. Even at only 5'1 and 60kg it's wicked fun to ride.
You'll have to get an in-person look at the new bagger model on the 6 when it's released. The optional blue/green colour change paint is also sublime
Love these things, fantastic bit of design and while they're not the 'best' bike around on paper, they offer an experience unlike anything else really. Good on BMW for trying something different like this.

Despite not having a licence yet, and probably never going to own this bike, this is my “dream bike” this is the one.
The boxer format balances the reciprocating masses perfectly, but I believe the fact the conrods are offset results in a ... wait for it....a rocking couple. Oh yeah baby.
Great review. Nice to see you appreciate the bike for what it is and not just trying to find fault because it’s not a sports bike!

I would put money on it that your rear suspension hadn’t been adjusted the required amount of turns for your weight. I had the same experience from new. Now infinitely better.
BMW builds a softail and HD builds a GS… and we thought 2020 was a weird year.
Top class review. After a long time. Am happy you said it well when you said its not for all. I ride a GS but when I rode this, it made me question and ponder on essentials for why we ride (without intending to be heavy in the comment). Being not refined in parts gives so much of a biking feel, this bike. I struggle not to go in for one 🙃
I very much believe that a bikes flaws or should we say quirks are where the bikes character comes from. "Perfect" bikes always feel soulless to me.
This is how I felt after testing one out.

I would've said something like "if you think 1800cc is a lot, try the Rocket 3", but you done that last year lmao. If you could chose, would you pick something more "sensible" like the R18 or the sheer insanity of the Rocket 3?

I test rode one a while ago - its interesting. The new faired one is out very soon with marshall sound system - our local dealer is selling the R18 at discount with offers already - not a popular bike in the UK market. harley owners wouldn't touch them, and im not sure its going to be a popular option for UK people. I enjoyed my test ride - pretty cool engine.
Thats a whole car with two wheels xD, when I rode the R9T the boxer twitch was pretty fun XD

That button you mentioned on the left handlebar controls with the exclamation mark and threequarters circle thingy, that is the on/off switch for the ASC, aka traction control

@@spicy110 You know manufacturers and their acronyms: TC, ASC, TSM its al the same but everyone has got their own. So that would not clear things up as the BMW acronym is ASC, so the button would have that on it.

Revzilla just did a comparison with the R18 and Softail, the HD comprehensively beats the R18.
Revzilla being American are fiercely patriotic and I would expect nothing less of them than to favour American iron regardless. Having owned both Harley and BMW I have enjoyed both in different ways. Currently loving my R18C
I concur. Revzilla had the most negative review of the R18 out there. Totally and blindly patriotic.

On cold days at stops, you will be able to warm your feet on the cylinders. Until you melt your boots.
Did you ever find out if it has a fuel gauge? If this bike is truly retro then it'll just have a fuel tap to switch to the 'emergency' tank once it starts spluttering...

It's a modern retro bike... It has all sorts of electronics and a LED light.
I think if bmw would put a big front fairing on it, they could get into the American cruiser market.

@@spicy110 yeah the windscreen is nice. But I meant an actual fairing, like the gold wing, the Harley Davidson line, Yamaha ventures, Indian baggers, the big heavy cruiser bikes

These are demo bikes so they need them for customers to ride, soon after I got back it went back out again. I would rather have bikes for a week or so like i do with Triumph UK but I don't have that connection with BMW...yet!
