Given our woeful track record at the Kassam, i probably would've taken a draw before kick off, but to get the draw in the manner which we did, just makes it that more difficult to swallow. The players need to find that balance between retaining possession and being too negative though, because in that first half we invited way too much needless pressure onto ourselves by not passing (or lumping) it forward. What a debut for Lang though....:)
Definitely - we were much more proactive on the ball in the second half and did a lot more with it, first half our possession was a waste of time having created nothing. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
Well done on your excellent wrap around coverage as always Tom and the team. I really like how chronologically the thoughts regarding Callum Lang from everyone fell at the end of the video. Wasn’t to be for Pompey with the +3 and I’m so devastated for the fans that were there to see it snatched away on minute 89!

I am writing as a Wigan Athletic fan, you have done well to acquire Callum Lang. I wanted him to stay with Latics, he is playmaker who can make things happen, he is also useful at free kicks on goal. He will add energy and impetus to the attack and could be the final piece that can win League One for you. One more thing, he had a reputation for going down too easily as he tried to win free kicks. The refs got wise to this and he would rarely ever win a free kick, even when he was fouled. If he stays injury-free and on his feet, Pompey will win League One !!

@Lukecornwell2948 If that’s the case I’d be very happy if we finished second. Playoffs well our record in them speaks for itself, not saying it can’t change but so far it seems like this club doesn’t do playoffs
After the Port Vale first half without Pack, we had so many opportunities on goal but didn’t score. With Pack back I was expecting better things, but the first half was woeful and we looked awful & Oxford took the lead. Devlin played exceptionally well at Port Vale but was poor here, injury to his shoulder impacted on his game, Shaughnessy was not his normal dependable best either. We needed much improvement in the 2nd half & to come back from behind & equalise was immense. Callum Lang had a Gr8 debut & for his goal, he just kept going & going & with all those defenders around him scored a fantastic goal to put us in front. Shame we couldn’t hold on at the end but after a really poor first half I’m glad we at least came home with a point. Another brilliant video Tom

Thanks Tom, just watched your video before I head to work. Lang seems like the new wonder lad for Portsmouth, the energy and fight he has and the shot on goal was brilliant under pressure. Super happy with the energy he injected, we also have more new blood so let's hope that JM can build the ultimate pompy side to get that 2 points average from games moving forwards.
I thought that second half was promising and if we can come out of the gates like that each week we have a real chance of automatic promotion. Maybe the coffee is kicking in but I'm buzzing lol 🤣.

As we’ve been saying in the last few weeks I’d probably prefer our position over yours in terms of the points on the board as they games in hand are never a given - although we know full well that you are capable of winning them and going above us by quite some! 7 from 9 away isn't a bad return considering the January we've had, yes it's frustrating we dropped 2 points late on at Oxford as our defence let us down, but considering the run we were on before these three games, you'd have taken that, big February ahead. 👍🏻

That's a pretty terrific goal , against one of the better sides in this division , a shame we couldn't hold on but given our record there not a terrible result . Pompey were the first professional football team I watched 63 years ago when I was a 16 year old undergoing basic training at HMS St Vincent and I have been hooked on them ever since then. They are so inconsistent at the moment and so slow going forward from the back. To be honest they do not look like a top of the league side in my opinion. I hope they prove me wrong and get automatic promotion. PUP.
As a Pompey fan had to sit in the Oxford fan area and when lang scored I accidentally jumped out of my seat and got a few looks from Oxford fans lol

I wasn't particularly inspired by the overall performance. A better second half but there were several below-par individual performances out there. We are so slow in our build-up play that the other team has loads of time to get into their defensive shape and crowd the box. Not enough one-touch passing, too many bad crosses and poor decision-making for the final pass. Lang was a breath of fresh air when he came on. I can't imagine any other player in the squad being capable of conjuring up a goal from that situation.
In terms of a player that can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and make a difference - he is exactly what we’ve been missing

Another great video, but feeling slightly disappointed that we couldn't hold on for the 3 points. The second half was much better and what a debut for Lang, a great goal, and worthy of winning any game.
Looking back after a woeful first half most probably would of settled for a point against one of our bogey sides.
Hopefully Lang will be in the starting lineup for Saturday and a quick start against Northampton is what we want to put them on the back foot.

Disappointing to drop two points so late in the game but seven points from three away games is of course not bad. Another striker in today could be a huge difference so that's what I'm hoping for.
I’m afraid to say I doubt a striker is something they’ll look to do at the club! We keep fighting on!
Great Vlog Tom. I'd've taken a draw before kick off, given our recent form and on the balance of play probably fair.
Not a lot of quality from either side, the fact we only completed 67% of our passes is woeful, and not too many chances first half either, but give Goodrham space from that range and the lad only score bangers. Pompey were a bit better after the goal but didnt feel like they had 62% of the ball before the break.
Not to say Pompey didn't improve second half, but that result partly turns on Jamie Cumming being taken off as a precaution to avoid injury, Eastwood is an Oxford hero but at this level he's not there anymore. With Cumming and Stevens off last night and Long and Bennett last week, I'm not sure what football deity Oxford have hacked off but the number of injuries is ridiculous.
Pompey did start the second half better and looked like Mousinho gave them a bit of a rocket up their backsides. Though I thought Oisin Smyth did well as a makeshift right back, Lane and Peart-Harris were particularly dangerous on your left. Pompey's first is one of those mad 6 yard box scrambles, but I think Eastwood is poor to lose the ball, fair play to Bishop that's the positions you want ya striker to be in.
As soon as Lang came on I knew we'd be in trouble, gave us the run around earlier in the season for Wigan as a sub. His goal is a nice bit of play and good finish, but for us to have 4 players around him and not make a challenge was frustrating and not saying he gets close to it, but Eastwood could've done better.
The arrival of Henry in the 85th minute, at the time, looked proof of our thin squad, but it was a smart sub to get an experienced head on to focus our attacks for a leveler. The veteran instinct to follow Mark Harris' shot to see if it breaks free is brilliant.
Thought we looked slightly more likely to grab a winner with the two chances O'Donkor had, who really grew into that game, but Pack's header is also a good chance.
We all should've expected a draw, the games between us always are. For a neutral, a very entertaining game, but one that will lower Oxford and Pompey fans' life expectancies, We'll see you in a month at Fratton Park.

Hiya Tom. Not a bad result to be fair but after coming from behind to lead 2-1 it felt like 2 points dropped at the end for me. What an awesome debut goal from Callum Lang though. I watched the game on ifollow and tell you what, I went crazy when he put that ball into the bottom corner. Shame it wasn't the winner because it deserved to be, but when we come from behind to lead in the second half we really should be seeing the game out for the win. What on earth was Norris doing right near the end there for their second goal? Should have comfortably dealt with that shot, instead he clapped it up in the air for an easy header in. Shocking goalkeeping from Norris and if I was Mousinho I would make a change for next game against Northampton and give Macey a crack in goal. It's worth a shot. He can't do any worse than what we saw from Norris last night. Some serious thinking for Mousinho to do before Saturday I think. Still, 3 points clear at the top and looking alright so we have to stay positive. Haven't mentioned before, but I always enjoy watching your car journey to the game, looks really fun. I only get to watch Pompey on iFollow these days, and EVERY game I've seen this season Pompey spend 60% of their first half possession fannying about by passing too many balls BACKWARDS instead of going at the opposition. It is obviously a Mousinho plan, but when will the bloke realise that slowing down possession in your own half only gives the opposition time to re-organise their defence well before a Pompey player tries a pass into the opposition half. If I can spot the flaw in the plan, dont you think that EVERY team in the Division KNOWS what Pompey will do,,,and organise against it. Top of the table....AND NO SHOT ON TARGET in the first half. Oxford were there for the taking and were a very average team....but we MATCHED them in mediocrity. Still too many players not up to scratch, and buying Div one players in to strengthen the team does not bode well for the future, if by some miracle we do get promotion. I can see us emulating Rotherham, Barnsley, Blackpool and Wigan in making a swift return to Div 1.
I am not a Lane fan, either. Too many times he does not deliver accurate passes across the box, and you can usually predict what will happen when the ball goes to him. Occasionally he WILL produce...but not often enough.
I hope we can beat Northampton...but if we play backwards against them they will probably sneak a draw.
