In between the camera turning itself off, I endeavor to stop oil pouring into my engine by changing the turbo cartridge, with, I might add, mixed results!
Wow fair play sir attempting this and going for it, hope it all worked out for you. I watched this today as I went to Llanberis (Snowdon) and my fusion has started coughing out grey smoke and struggling to boost, making a periodic whistling sound. Think the bearings in my turbo are goosed. Wah wah waaaaah!. Gutted, just forked out £190.00 for new starter motor and over £300 for insurance and breakdown cover. I'll get it checked at a garage tomorrow, if it is the turbo, I'll probably change it out and get it fixed. I would not like to change the booster cartridge as you have, case I get the boost setting wrong, but I think I will do the turbo myself. I have spent loads on my 1.4 tdci. *posted 31.7.22. Thanks for your post :)
@@sleepycatpictures1176 Update 1.8.22. Hi, Garage in Llandudno said the car's Turbo is fine, only the hole in the rubber pipe that has appeared is not. It's not the turbo itself, so good news. They said it's going to be about £130.00 including labor and VAT to fix. Phew! Hope this is the end of a somewhat costly streak my TDCI 1.4 has been costing me as of late.👌👍Great videos by the way and thanks for all your posts regarding the Fusion. I have subscribed😺 Hope your Fusion starts to work as it should and behaves itself. Peace out and mind how you go.👍4 Turbo changes and a poor you really....Nightmare🐎
Sorry to say that it should have been re-calibrated before reassembling. Because the operation characteristics of the turbo have changed, you might encounter boost problems. Overboost may cause the car to go into limp mode, otherwise, the car will suffer from bad acceleration due to under boost. In the case of overboost, the turbo might suck more oil, and then the burnt oil will cause the turbo to build up soot, which gets the vnt and wastegate systems stuck, and the turbo will get fried. And if so, the whole turbo will need to be replaced, which inevitably costs a bomb. It is like a chain reaction. You will observe increased oil consumption followed by a turbo failure (It gets stuck). I have experienced this, so my experiences and knowledge never mistakes. But it seems that it's too late to speak about these risks.
@@sleepycatpictures1176 Thank you. It was cool watching you take the car apart, I've watched a few videos of yours... As I'm currently repairing my mazda 2, which has a ford fusion 1.4 turbo engine. 1st car I've ever done work on, it's a great experience.
@@mikeb3315 Thanks! So the ubiquitous 1.4 tdci finds it's way into Mazda's as well . . . good grief! They get everywhere. The bit that attracted me was the £30 year road tax!
@@sleepycatpictures1176 yes it does... Not many know that...not even a mazda workshop! I have to tell them 🤷🏼♂️ I'm replacing the thermostat (25£), which was a bodge job, I was shocked when I took it off! And also replacing the hoses (35£) from the back of the engine. Ive replaced... Fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel injector lines, air filters, oil filter done an oil flush too. I also put the originally steel wheels on with new tyres, as some numty but 195-45-16 on with all year round tyres... instead of 185 65 15. So yeah it's been an expensive experience lol. Brand new car after this last bit of work. Also cleaned to engine too... Back to silver 👌🏽
@@mikeb3315 Good job! Yeah, the fuel leak-off pipes are a favourite. I've done mine, and the thermostat, which looked a hideous job, but turned out to be quite easy. Keep up the good work!
Just the usual socket set and metric spanners. Apart from the little bolts holding the cartridge in where I found the best fit was small a/f spanner. 7mm was too small and 8mm was too big. Strange size, however they were not too tight so I managed in the end.
To show what a cat cleaner dies my fuision has done 172475 miles just gone thew mot last years emissions 1.95 this year after the cleaner 00.2 now a lot of diff on a old engine
Brilliant video, good job you enjoy working on cars so much.
Believe me, if I could afford to pay someone else to do it, I would! There's more to come . . .
Great video as always
Always helpful.
Love your enthusiasm 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Keep up the good work. Hope you get the Landi sorted soon too.

Just trying to keep running!
thanks for sharing your experience
Thank you. Good luck

@@willward952 Glad it's an easy fix. Old Stinky is behaving himself of late so no complaints there!

Thanks anyway but a new turbo had to be bought.
Thank.u..sir
I think that was a good turbo.
Could have been, but it's been changed now!
Where did you get the turbo heat shield from?
The original on my mazda 2 1.4 is falling apart... So I'm looking for a new/used one.
Thanks in advance.
It came with the car, if you mean the furry one on the outside of the unit. You might have to look around a few scrapyards for one.

I put a cat cleaner thew mine just as good as injector cleaner but it all helps .
Oh, ta!
Sir, what are the tools you used and numbers?

To be honest, a new complete turbo would be your best bet. The Mahle unit I ended up with works fine.
