- This video will help you change the key battery on a Volvo dash key. The models are Volvo C30 C70 S40 V50. This is a very easy job, you just need a screwdriver. The key battery is a CR 2450

Okay, so today we've got a five-button Volvo key. We're going to show you how to change the key battery. It's really simple.
All you need to do is first of all take the blade out, and you do that by sliding that across and pulling that out.
Okay, next thing is to ... On one of the sides of the bit that goes into the car there's a little cutout, so pop your screwdriver carefully into there. You don't need to push it hard. And straight away, as you pull it up, you will see there's a gap around the key already. So then just put your ... Just gently, just turn that. You don't need to force anything. And then if that's not coming off there, then once again ... Just put it in the other side, just gently twist it, then that'll come off.
So here's your battery. It's CR2450.
So to get the battery out you need to put a screwdriver about here, because this bit's tucked under here. So just press it down that end, and then ... Put your screwdriver there.
Okay. So then you need a new battery. It's a 2450. There's our new battery. We're gonna just pop it in, pop the cover on-the right way round, of course. That will just click. Okay. And then pop the key blade back in.
And with a five-button Volvo key you're good to go.

Hi . Great video - super clear. I have one of those keys with a broken tip. I see that there are key cases like this sold on ebay which say that you can swap the circuit boards over but I can't see how you can get into the casing to get out the circuit board. there doesn't seem to be a screw that hold it together unlike other key cases. Can you help?

I hope you can help me out, I broke the tip of the key for my volvo the part that enters the ignition. Can I swap out the casing with a new key? So I don’t have to reprogram a key?

Hi Alan, the only way to test it is to find a local shop with a key RF tester. They'll be able to tell if a signal is coming out of your key

You should have your battery ready to put in straight away within seconds or you might have to get your fob reset

I did this but key doesn't work does it need to be reset?
Hi Graham, did it work before you changed the battery?
It might not have been the original key that came with the car. If that is the case it will need to be reprogrammed. But I would try another battery first to make sure its not a faulty battery.
It did both keys worked prior to battery change and also batterys are ok, thankyou
