- A new production of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites opens at Glyndebourne this summer.
Once heard, Dialogues des Carmélites is never forgotten. And it only takes one listen to turn a sceptic into a passionate believer...
We brought three of the opera’s most enthusiastic advocates - soprano Danielle de Niese, author and broadcaster Reverend Richard Coles and music critic Mark Pullinger - to discuss the moments in this extraordinary opera that made converts of each of them.

Blanche's last line is actually taken from the end of the Veni, Creator Spiritus
My favorite opera, and I so hope that Barrie Kosky's production is preserved so that all of the many "Dialogues" fans get a chance to see it.
I am surprised that they didn't comment on the significance of the struggle of the prioress's death. An older nun said that she thought the prioress was undergoing someone else's death struggle, so that that person who be able to go more easily. At first viewing, it's melodrama, but as one see Blanche's actions at the end it makes sense.
I just love this opera. One of my favourites.
I can’t see it anymore it is so upsetting. I was dazed for a week afterwards.
Victory of Supernatural they reign now and forever
as Happy Queens in His ETERNALLY HAPPY GLORIOUS KINGDOM
This opera has that effect on people.
I have attended it in 4 different productions, and at the end the audience always waits several long moments of shocked silence before applauding, and there are always a certain number who are weeping.
Sí, es una gran ópera.
" Submit"...
It is always the same problem. These men never get to meet their dutiful interlocutrices.
Rien.
She is trying to 'branche' these guys. She's obscene.
