Long before Amelia Earhart become an aviation icon, she wanted to be a poet. Her poem 'Courage' was one of her first published writings, and is beautifully sung here by Danielle de Niese (soprano), with Christopher Tin conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
COURAGE by Amelia Earhart (1927)
Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace.
The soul that knows it not knows no release
from little things:
Knows not the livid loneliness of fear,
Nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear
The sound of wings.
How can life grant us boon of living, compensate
For dull gray ugliness and pregnant hate
Unless we dare
The soul's dominion? Each time we make a choice, we pay
With courage to behold the resistless day,
And count it fair.
"Courage" was commissioned by Dr. Timothy M. Hsia as a tribute to his late grandfather, Philip Y. C. Hsia, a pilot in the Second World War with the Flying Tigers.

I bear news from Singapore:
Captain 'Winkie' Ho Weng Toh, one of the last pilots of the legendary 'The Flying Tigers', of which this track is dedicated to, has passed away and departed for the skies at the age of 103 on January 6th, 2024.
His legacy, and that of the 'The Flying Tigers': the Chinese-American Composite Wing, will live on in the stories shared of how this generation has sacrificed so much for our tomorrow.
To Winkie, and to those that went before him, thank you.🫡

I heard this song sung by the New Mexico Gay Men's chorus and Zia Singers and was crying in my chair at how gorgeous the song was. What an incredible show. Brought the house down. Two standing ovations!

HI Christopher! This is so beautiful! Her voice is amazing, and I love the orchestra composition for this! The scenery is amazing, too. Oh, I am now 5 weeks into learning my new violin. Such a torturous instrument! I need a second elbow in my forearm to twist my arm around to reach the strings. LOL I'm progressing rapidly, but can still make it sound like a cat in a barrel. Give me time. It's just 4 strings and a bowie thing! Best wishes from the USA! ~~Fly~~
