I swear to god the editing on the 5 seconds of "ME!" was actually comedy gold. 😂 Just the fact that it's a snippet of the chorus with her head bobbing to it and then to cut it off right to the next track was brilliant.

After listening to the album a couple times now, I can say "It's Nice to Have a Friend" is an acquired taste. It didn't appeal to me at all after the first listen but now it's become a favorite! Every time I hear the oriental sounding intro (the strings in particular) I'm transported to a different place. I imagine the sunset behind the distant mountains, bathing the newly harvested rice field in a golden glow.

Also because of the Brendon Urie collab tbh. But I honestly was annoyed with the promotional/single choices pre-album this era, Lover was great but the rest were, eh. She should’ve did Cruel Summer as one of the singles, before summer ended. 💀 (IMO)

This is the secret love she found and was hiding during Reputation. This is all about her letting go of letting other people define her, her art, her worth, her love. ME! is all about stripping away all the negativity, just focusing on what joy can be in every individual as a person--surprised you don't see that. You maybe didn't know, but she was kind of ostracized in school , so a song about a school friend (possibly BFF Abigail, her friend since day one 9th grade) illustrated that children have feelings too. I subscribed--your reactions are amazing! Thumbs up on everything!

It's Nice To Have a Friend wrenches my heart in a good way. It's a dreamlike fantasy of a 'normal' relationship she so craved for. It's so simple--everything is simple from the lyrics to the plot of the lyrics to the production. It's the simplicity of childhood friends turned lovers for life. She calls out how it's nice to have a friend that has your back your entire life. This song kills me for some reason, idk what reason. It's a whimsical, stream of consciousness-writing a distant dream. For some reason, THIS track really cements the fact that she's gonna end up with Joe for the rest of her life. The background of the track makes me think of what pure love would sound like. It's childlike, it's a ringing sound. It's simple, it's love.

Jordan what do you think about albums with 35 tracks? Like Chris Brown newest album. I feel like a album is like a storybook or a movie if it’s too long it can ruin like the art and idea of the whole thing, or if it’s too short it can be underwhelming. Which is why I think it depends per album because there is a different art idea behind it. Like Led Zeppelin physical graffiti has 15 tracks opposed to like Led Zeppelin IV that has only 8. There is so much more that goes into an album than the number of tracks.

I feel like this album is a continuation of "Red". In Red she talked about her heartbreaks and her letdowns, saying that love can be cruel and "burning red". Towards the ending of Red she finds a new beginning, something more optimistic and positive, and talks about the people she loves and that make her happy. Lover starts right from this point- She starts by "forgetting" everyone who didn't treat her right and pushes them aside, and instead coming to realize that she shouldn't focus on them, but on the people she truly loves and cares about, on matters that are important in order to make others' lives better, and on being happy and positive. Once she found her lover, she realised that love is wonderful and "golden". She closes Lover with this realization on the song Daylight. Red and Lover really Flow together in my opinion, and they show growth and maturity.
