if i didn't listen to taylor prior to lover and all i got from it was ME!, it wouldn't make me seek out the rest. which makes me so sad to say because everything else is so incredible about this but ME! in it's current state doesn't hit right.
also some people argue that the length of the album is a pretty big factor, that when she sets herself to her 13 lucky number, she puts in a more clear story and then the bonuses are nice to just throw in as things she wrote but just didn't help tell the story. so i guess the story feels long and confusing to some with lover.
Yeah it’s too long and stylistically all over. It just makes no sense. She needed some serious editing and ME! needed to stay in the vault forever 😂

Noooo Evermore is better than Folklore and I will die on that hill lol. They’re both incredible, but Evermore is a grown up folklore in my opinion, and I’m 30 and I’ve been a mom for 8 years, so I’m in a point in my life where I really relate to Evermore. Folklore is gorgeous, but it feels like I’m reading stories (which is the point) but Evermore was my life experience in songs. If that makes sense?

Honestly I think Cruel Summer should have been a single and ME! should have just been an album track. I really think I would have liked ME! sooooooooooo much more of it wasn't promoted as a single, it's a really fun and feel good song but it works so much better in the context of the album!

I don’t usually comment, but I have to appreciate that two men put respect on the double standard and absolutely appreciate ‘The Man’. Two views for you.
"i once believed love would be burning red, but its golden" speaks how she thought that love is a passionate red, like her RED album, she was wrong. she now then realizes that its golden and nothing like that red.
Fun Fact: Taylor originally planned this album name Daylight but after some time Taylor decided to for Lover because she thought it better covered the message she wanted to tell with this album, and it's true.
Also Cruel Summer is in swiftie community known as Taylor's biggest waste of hit in her whole career. This song is really pop perfection, it's fun and radio-friendly while also lyrically and vocally interesting song, we think this could've been one of her biggest hits if she released it as single. We think that Taylor actually planned to make Cruel Summer 5th single (after ME!, YNTCM, Lover and The Man) before go on tour but her plans got crashed with pandemic and then in spring and summer while she was already making Folklore she decided to scrap Cruel Summer as single. It's such a waste of hit, this would be easily number 1 song, we'll never get over it.

i wasn't sure i was gonna watch this video even though i love your taylor videos because reactors usually come from folklore/evermore and hate lover like it was supposed to be this lyrical masterpiece and not a fun celebration of love meant to dance to (something she never did before because even 1989 and rep were heavily lyrical although danceable) even swifties don't seem to appreciate the album for what it was and i simply love it, this album never fails to lift me up and make my day better so i hold it dearly and am indeed sensitive about stupid harsh criticism
So glad I've found my people! I absolutely love Lover and will always stand for how brilliant it is and how appropriately and beautiful it came in her life at the time that it did come.

In Daylight, she says “I once believed love would be Burning RED, but it’s Golden” obviously referencing back to Red, when she thought love was just supposed to be a burning passion with fighting and intense emotions but it really isn’t…. It’s golden. But i found it so interesting that one person can change your entire interpretation and meaning of a word! (You’ll see as you dive deeper into her discography that she calls Joe “blue” and “gold” a lot) like in Invisible String when she says “one single thread of gold tied me to you”

OMG! I LOVE this reaction. This is one of my favorite albums. The fact that it was the first album she owned, it was an album completely showing different aspects of love, I love the experimentation of sounds and including horns and saxophone sounds. This album will continue to grow on you the more you listen to it. It's a shame that she didn't get to tour it due to the pandemic because the few live performances we have of this album, like npr tiny desk, bbc one performance, and city of lover are some of the best Taylor has ever sounded.

Lover has SEVERAL of her most underappreciated songs period. Daylight, Afterglow, London Boy, I Forgot You Existed and even Lover even though it was released as a single are all unbelievably underappreciated. Cruel Summer was too but its started getting the love it deserves this year!

I am so happy you guys like this album it is what got me into Taylor when it was released. I'm only half way through but I want to urge you to listen to the acoustic version of DBATC from her Tiny Desk performance. Her explanation of the song then her extremely excellent live performance are superior. I liked the album version of the song but the acoustic version became one of my Top 5 all time. I'm a Lover stan, I think it's super undervalued in the fandom. I think a tour might have changed that but that went to Covid and then onto Folklore and Lover got the short end of the stick all the way around.

Soon You'll Get Better is the only song i've cried to first listen, it just hit too close to home with my mother having had cancer as well, 6 years ago. Teared up again just watching you listen to it, probably the first time since that first listen cause I can't bear it.
Same. My dad passed from cancer in 2014. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to it all the way through, that and “bigger than the whole sky” are immediate skips because I CAN NOT.
