Is there a lore explanation specifically for Elden Ring, as to why when you kill any regular mob they always respawn after resting on a Grace? know there is probably a different reason for the lore of each Souls game, but specifically in elden ring, it doesn't feel like it is ever explained. The whole thing about "returning to the erdtree" doesnt seem valid, because both the entities that are cursed and aren't cursed respawn (example: the omens and the leyndell knights, respectively). Only bosses seem to go through "erdtree burial" or whatever it's called since they don't respawn and you could claim they were absorbed by the tree.
What made you think a tree burial was a good thing let alone a pleasant thing? They have monks who practice live mummification and living burials as incredible honors, circumcision is considered normal and right too culturally. If you came in blind and ignorant and saw folk doing these things to both willing and unwilling don’t you think you’d oppose all that barbarism? I would. Graceless tarnished like bosses don’t die but they also don’t comeback like a tarnished with grace, go look at “the lord of beasts” and see what happens when you come up short now apply that to the folk who are glorified check boxes to the greater will and outer gods that at best don’t care or are actively making life torment for the stepping stone?
Rune of death removed infinite respawns which is why the capital will turn to ash when you defeat Maliketh and not when you just burn down the Erdtree (hence all the inhabitants are dead) After is just gameplay reasons really 🤷 And also why Morgott will disappear only after destined death is unleashed again
Well to put it simply "death" doesn't exist in the Lands Between. Mariak removed the rune of death from the Elden Ring so everything under the Tree can't truly be killed unless they are returned to it via "Erdtree burial". However that and the rules of death changed when a fragment from the rune of death was stolen. My guess is after the fragment was stolen and used in the Night Of Black Knives that it somehow made all Demigods and certain individuals lost their immortality and could be killed. But lesser beings like our character and mobs are still immortal and can't be truly killed. Hence why they respawn at the grace when you rest or die. At least that's been my understanding
As others have said, because the rune of death was removed from the elden ring by marika in order to grant her "eternal" moniker and continue her reign.
@@JamesMadisonsSpiritAnimal makes sense except that in the game you're also a tarnished and you have infinite lives just like the mobs that respawn every time you sit at the grace

i get even more catharsis out of that clip of a half-naked tarnished t-posing over gideon's smouldering corpse as it burns away into the flames of frenzy
Actually its Ensha who commands the massacre in the village. He is the "all hearing" being literally the ears of Sir Gideon. There is a finger reader maiden near Raya Lucaria thats also talks about a "all hearing". It doesn't make sense that both the finger maiden and Latenna would call him by the wrong name.
Gideon is known as the All-Hearing, because that's all he does, is hear things. "The All-Knowing" is a self-proclaimed moniker because he's an arrogant idiot who got Marika's most basic desire wrong. All-Hearing is a jab at Gideon, it's why he was entombed in ears.
@@quailfeather No he is know as the "All-knowing". There is not a single item or NPC that calls him "All hearing". We can loot from Rykard's arena the Eye Surcoat used by Recusant Henricus. It says it represents the "eyes and ears" of SIr Gideon. All his spies are his "ears" and "eyes".
@@wasabi1363 because it is entirely incorrect? because you don't know what you're talking about? because you don't have access to Ranni nor her quest until after Lauretta, meaning to get to Ranni you have to pass the village? because the trigger for Ensha's invasion is getting half of the medalion from the Albinauric elder and has nothing to do with Ranni?
I always feel like a fool for not realising all this myself. Because when i played all this it was disjointed and each moment occured many hours of gameplay apart... over weeks. So cool though. Very nuanced moments that i guess you lose sight of in your first playthrough.
WAIT wait wait! That's why Ensha actually attacks you!!!!!!!!!!! holy molly! I knew that he was the one who massacred the village but never figured it out that you having the medallion is what triggers Ensha to attack you.

I remember when Ensha first invaded. Never knew why, all I knew is that the Rountable was looking alot like the Abandonded Firelink Shrine and thinking, "Ah shit"
I wish they would've made Gideon more difficult to beat. He should've had a bottomless pool of mana, be able to always sprint, and have no delays after casting a spell. Just a fast small moving target that could chain cast like nobody's business. That would've been fun and made him look worthy.

actually, it's implied that the brute was Ensha, not Gideon, then Gideon, after getting the info from Ensha, sent forces to the Albinauric village to find the medallion half.
I only just learned it was because of the medallion that I got attacked...I always thought it was some random unprovoked attack/Ensha losing his marbles...now it makes sense
I killed Gideon not because his an ass to us and killed those poor sould but because he killed Lobo. You kill a pet, you face the judgement if John Wick.
well said. I dont get how some people think its not Gideon, and is some "All hearing one". The Helmet and grave at the intro of the game literally have several ear decorations, its very likely Gideon. I disagree with him ordering Ensha to take it form you. He should know Ensha is no match, and he ends up using your power to explore the consecrated snow fields and gather more knowledge about Malenia, Miquella and Mohg. I think its really Ensha's own doing, since his mission is to grab the medallion pieces. Well, its all theory really, cant be 100% sure.
I still believe Gideon didn't order Ensha to take us out. I think Ensha was overzealous and tried tried to take the initiative. But the fact that Gideon tried to play it off made me look at him differently.

And also why Morgott will disappear only after destined death is unleashed again
@@JamesMadisonsSpiritAnimal makes sense except that in the game you're also a tarnished and you have infinite lives just like the mobs that respawn every time you sit at the grace
he paused like he was waiting for an answer
Oh THAT’S why Ensha attacks? I kept wondering what triggers it or if it was just random.
I like how his adopted daughter (Nepheli) wanted to try fixing the wrongs and wanted to kill the Omen killer who was working for him.
I did not know that the guy Ensha attacks you because you get the medallion, and only does after you get it. That is so freaking cool. I'm way too stupid to figure this story out myself but watching these videos is mind blowingly awesome sometimes
I’m confused which medallion is it?
@@joshuaconnall4237 Either half of the Haligtree medallion.

I remember when I realized Gideon has covered in ears. **shudder** gave new meaning to "all hearing"
this game is so fucking good. i loved it all and i had no idea wtf was going on but it just keeps getting better after u learn the lore
Gideon: “Ah, I knew you’d come... To face the El-wait, why are there yellow flames coming out of your eyes...? 🤨”
Me: *Smiling in 2-handed Frenzyflame Seal and Inescapable Frenzy.*
I was so confused when I was attacked when I returned to the roundtable hold. Thank you for this explanation, it makes more sense now.
my level 308 character just hanging around
All my hate towards gideon left when i enterd the evergoal with those aulbinaric archers
Even if gideon got the medallion in that village niall would clap his ass on castle sol anyway 😂
i get even more catharsis out of that clip of a half-naked tarnished t-posing over gideon's smouldering corpse as it burns away into the flames of frenzy
No. It’s made very clear that it was Gideon.
@@dynamicflashy literally nothing is clear in any fs game
Gideon's armor literally has ears all over
Lol I thought you were attacked by Ensha after starting Ranni's quest
lol nope you wrong
you don't start Ranni's quest until after defeating the Lauretta phantom boss thing, what you've said does not check out.
@@unfortunately_fortunate2000 how ?
@@wasabi1363 because it is entirely incorrect? because you don't know what you're talking about? because you don't have access to Ranni nor her quest until after Lauretta, meaning to get to Ranni you have to pass the village? because the trigger for Ensha's invasion is getting half of the medalion from the Albinauric elder and has nothing to do with Ranni?
@@wasabi1363 tf do you mean "how ?"
I always feel like a fool for not realising all this myself. Because when i played all this it was disjointed and each moment occured many hours of gameplay apart... over weeks. So cool though. Very nuanced moments that i guess you lose sight of in your first playthrough.
The lore is crazy in this game. I barely understand it but its very cool
You can't imagine how happy I was when I entered Gideon's boss fight and could finally destroy him as he deserved.
Wooow. After two years I finally figure out why Ensha attacked. I actually believed Gideon when he said he tried to claim the treasure himself 😂
gideon was an opp the whole time
I love Gideons music Lie Again is my favorite
man really sent sans when tarnished over here wielding a rivers of blood
What an age to be living in getting video game stories like these holy ****
The albinaurics were so pretty
I think Ensha did it on their own accord. This is because Gideon talks about it being "too soon" for Ensha to have attacked the tarnished
Gideon after you kill Ensha: Nah bro, I have no idea why he attacked you before the sig... I mean idk why he attacked you
WAIT wait wait! That's why Ensha actually attacks you!!!!!!!!!!! holy molly! I knew that he was the one who massacred the village but never figured it out that you having the medallion is what triggers Ensha to attack you.
Ever since getting to the Roundtable and talking to Gideon, I have hated him to the bone and became so happy to know that you can kill him as a boss fight.😂
Gideon after you kill Ensha: "I was gonna have him do that, but just not yet."
On my current NG cycle I've just not spoke to him, he is standing in his first spot holding his cane like a frail old loser, he watches me whenever I come to the round table hold, he watches as I speak to literally everyone else
This makes so much sense. I need to keep slapping Gideon harder now each playthrough
“Hey Gideon, Ensha tried to kill me, so I annihilated her. Know anything about that?”
“Damn, Tarnished, that’s crazy. Whaaaat? Who would do such a thing? Anyways here’s a lil gift for you, please forget this ever happened.”
That's why I like Gideon... They represent him in the best way possible, so selfish , too greedy and too cautious.. he always have something up his sleeve
And then he has the gall to say to your face that Ensha "got ahead of himself". Bro doesn't even actually deny he was trying to kill you.
To most people (me included) it went right over heads but it’s incredibly obvious if you take even a second to think about it
The girl will also tell you that she can’t believe Gideon would do this, I don’t actually know what triggers the dialogue change but I’ve heard it twice from her.
I remember when Ensha first invaded. Never knew why, all I knew is that the Rountable was looking alot like the Abandonded Firelink Shrine and thinking, "Ah shit"
Ensha trying to kill me
Me: whos this lost sassy child?
I like her dialogue about seeking justice at that village. Would have liked more closure with Gideon and she. Surely he knows he should be hated
I wish they would've made Gideon more difficult to beat. He should've had a bottomless pool of mana, be able to always sprint, and have no delays after casting a spell. Just a fast small moving target that could chain cast like nobody's business. That would've been fun and made him look worthy.
I honestly didnt know that was a different person, this game has so much stuff im still finding out about the lore and i bought it when it dropped lmao. (granted i played it for a while and took a break)
So that's why I got randomly attacked-
Oh so basically me to Windmill Village every 2 seconds for runes 😂
The story in this game is so good, if only you were able to observe it. 😂
Ensha's feeble attack on me was so short I totally forgot who it was. I see red I put it down. 😂
actually, it's implied that the brute was Ensha, not Gideon, then Gideon, after getting the info from Ensha, sent forces to the Albinauric village to find the medallion half.
as much as i like gideon i dont think i ever let him finish his dialogue when you go to fight him
I love how after you kill Ofnir, he literally disproves his own life goal: "a Tarnished, CANNOT become Elden Lord"
He's a sore loser.
My theory is that hes just trying to reach malenia about her extended car warranty
Oh that's why I got attacked by the silent one
Gideon also changes his spells based on bosses you kill before fighting him, he was always watching you
Dude I was wondering why I was being attacked at the table. I was like "bro I tried to talk to you and be friends! Wtf Ensha?"
Ensha do the same pose and has the same attitude of Lucatiel, from Dark Souls 2
I didnt even know about Ensha coming to kill you because after i got that half i went right to the lift. You learn something new everyday!
In his defense, Gideon was right about the Albinauric woman knowing the location of the other half of the medallion
I only just learned it was because of the medallion that I got attacked...I always thought it was some random unprovoked attack/Ensha losing his marbles...now it makes sense
I killed Gideon not because his an ass to us and killed those poor sould but because he killed Lobo. You kill a pet, you face the judgement if John Wick.
i had no idea thats why the skeleton guy came in and killed me for no reason
The all hearing person was, ensha, he invades you after you pick up the medallion from albus and he also works for gideon.
Ooooh ! So that's why! 😮😮
No joke, I'm mind blown.
Thanks for the information
So that’s why Ensha attacked me
Bro came straight from the far away land of Mordor
I still believe Gideon didn't order Ensha to take us out. I think Ensha was overzealous and tried tried to take the initiative. But the fact that Gideon tried to play it off made me look at him differently.
