The 41st was a great addition to the story that really did make Zuko's story hold together better, IMHO.
It's my favorite among many really good changes to deepen the characters and make them more connected to one another..
Look up in the animated series. S1 idk what episode is but it called "THE STORM" that '41st Division' plot is not an addition. It's actually on the show.
@@cuppachuppz5702 While Zuko speaking out against the sacrificing of a division in the war council was there in the original animated series, the idea of it actually being the same soldiers as the ship's crew was added for the Netflix show, and it's that personal connection I was referring to.
@@cuppachuppz5702 In the animated show the 41st is the division Ozai was willing to sacrifice, but they are not the crew of Zuko's ship.
@@RealBLAlley but they don't exactly mention it, right😉
I love the dichotomy, of Zuko coming back to the ship at, arguably, his most defeated, only to find his crew fully behind him for the first time...Chef's Kiss
Jay would be a bad ninja. You’d just hear him giggling in the shadows
Or he'd be the scariest Ninja....just giggles in the darkness, then the slow Sai that you don't see coming.
I can see him itching to whisper “heeeey peaches” into the ear of his victim before he strikes true
Reminds me of Robin in the early seasons of Young Justice 🤣
Roku saying that friends can be a liability for an avatar definitely has some layers.
I wonder if we’ll see that
They'd be insane not to.@@FromRussiaWithLuv007
@@FromRussiaWithLuv007 I'm sure we will. Its a pretty big plot point.
They Also cast a very recognizable character actor as Sozin for one scene. They will bring him back for some more flashbacks im sure. Otherwise they coulda have gotten a nobody for that small part.
@@tay-dor7147 i look forward to the dwagons
Adam: "Well why don't you give me a flashback so that I can understand?!"
TV Show: "Hold my beer."
😂😜
The Angi Kai in this episode was BRUTAL........The slow burn by Ozai was right on the border of hate and regret that he was doing it and you see it again when he banishes Zuko. But the best part was the crew saluting Zuko when he returned.....such a great moment they added
💯💯💯💯So true
I appreciate how the live action committed to tell the store in a more cohesive way. I am glad we get to see the Fire lord and Azula, from the beginning. The first season is about the introduction of characters and their stakes.
I love how they're bringing Koh's mom into this from the comics.
Roku acting the way he did it’s like ohhh no wonder you let one of ur best friends slide and eventually cause the 100 year war.
Well his childhood was closer to Aang than Kiyoshi. He grew up and played and joked around with a friend. The only difference is Aang's friends didn't become tyrants
Oh, Daddy Daniel Dae Kim! You don't need to put on that cape EVER AGAIN. DAMMMMN! "Daniel Dae Kim's kids had to define "zaddy" for him after he encountered what he thought was a typo."
*AND* ....this was an excellent episode.
Genuinely sad that when Roku asked "What did Kyoshi tell you the role of the Avatar was?" Adam didn't look into the camera and say We seek VENGEANCE!! VENGEANCE for those that suffered!! 😂
I thought it. But decided to go with the Doom reference. But thank you for being on team Vongeance! 😎
Man we get Adam tears !!!!!!!
Phenomenal performances by the cast and story building!
I think Korra would actually benefit well with a live action adaptation. Just because of how the cartoon was made, you can weave the seasons together really now that the story is complete.
I love this show overall but I particularly love the depth added to the Fire Nation characters.
Zhao just keeps buying rope.
Mother of faces was a connection to the comics I haven’t read them but I know it’s connected to Zukos mother
"LIVE ACTION AVATAR SERIES ALL OF IT"
Lets manifest some greatness pReview'd fans!!!!
So first of all. Jay is Aang avatar, Adam is Korra Avatar. Second, DANG IT WE BROKE ADAM WITH FOUND FAMILY DAD STUFF HOW DID WE DO THAT?!?! and third I’m heading to nav popcorn immediately
Oh what a callback to reference Teen Girl Squad 😂👍
- I have a crush on every boy.
Arrowed.
- Ow! My skin!
Air Bending training is very conducive to flexibility and long winded-purched poses (like with a hot flight on to a volcano, on an air grinder). I really love the theory that Ty Lee is descended from air nomad survivors, hiding out in a fire nation circus and Ty Lee just doesn’t know.
Out of you two boys, Adam strikes me as a Fire/Water Bender, and Jay feels like Earth/Air. But it’s Jay’s baby boi that’s the Avatar of previewed.
Also want to shout out composer Takeshi Furukawa's work, which has the longest contiguous piece of the soundtrack that underscores the entire final sequences of the episode. Absolutely incredible orchestral swells, reminds me of Joe Hisashi's work like in Howl's Moving Castle
i love that they pulled from the comics for the totem part with the mother of all faces🥰
I love that you referred to Daniel Dae Kim as the guy from Lost because we have 3 Lost alumni in this episode 😅 this was my favorite episode of the season, it’s so powerful
You know it’s a good ep when we finish with 2 teary eyed boys.
The 41st being Zuko’s crew was not in the cartoon, and it is such a great & compelling change.
This is probably the best episode of the show! I love the added detail of the 41st division. Oh and that Iroh line about healing was amazing!
Yeah zhao is one of the only characters in this show so far that’s just head and shoulders improved over the cartoon version. He’s still kind of mustache-twirly especially in ep 8, but overall I think he’s so much better written and acted in this version. For the vast majority, he just feels like a real human in this show, where I always felt like he was too cartoonish by half in the original show. Don’t get me wrong, it was fine…in the *cartoon* OG show…for him to be that way. I just think he’s so much more compelling and interesting in this.
Zhao was triggering. He reminded me of an old coworker who let the power of middle management go to his head 😂
I adore the animated show, but Zhao in the cartoon is really just Ozai lite. This one is insecure but more conniving. I also love the addition of Azula using him and that helps him get noticed and receive the promotion to Admiral.
@@kunglaoshat1250 Fr, I was just about to comment that Zhao's speech to the troops has 'newly promoted Salesforce regional manager trying to hype up the bi-annual regional conference' energy.
@@-just-so- Absolutely!
I actually just lost my Dad last night. the "they jsut miss their dad" at the end hit me hard.
I’m so sorry for your loss ❤
I'm sorry for your loss buddy, I'm sure your dad was an Iroh!
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Adam has wreaked “Vengeance” upon Jay.
Jay:”Can you imagine fighting your dad like this?”
Adam[stone-faced):” 👀 ….Yes.”
Jay:”Wait really?!”
…Seemingly unintentional edit cut to Jay and Adam talking about the next sequence.
That production choice was fckng hilarious! Well done.
😂☠️
You know what would go great with the Hey Peaches popcorn? Some Jay and Adam Oreos
Too bad they’re too famous for Oreos
three things:
1). i love how Ken Leung moved from helping the resistance in star wars force awakens to being Hux as Admiral Zhao
2). all these years i watch ATLA and it's only NOW, seeing Roku talk to him, tht i see the similarities between the Avatars and The Doctor (s)
3). the more i watch ATLA - Live Action, the more i scream, "frak Ozai!", iChuckle. sigh, the bad father deal is something.
[also, i LOVE the idea of the 41st being the crew; i could be wrong but i don't remember it in the animated series but even so, great touch!]
13:00: "there's only one more type of bending..." Yeaaaaaaaah.... .... .... ............. Say nothing xD
You can both see yourselves as the avatar if you want…but you can also consider you two are more of an Appa and Momo duo. 12:45
Oh. My. God. I see it.
If the Blue Spirit finds a vent system, maybe Ezra might show up. Ya gotta know they're all connected.
Nice catch Adam! figuring out the narrative hit of the crew. yeah, that's not in the animation, but it's so good I actually assumed it was. only later have I figured out through comments that it wasn't so.
Great as usual! I personally didn't like the meshing of storylines. But hey, I can objectively understand why, so I'll just have to be okay with it.
As soon as Adam said, OR? with the specific emphasis I said the same thing in my mind at the same time! Shang Chi is by far my favorite recent MCU movie. I could watch it without having the entirety of the whole Universe memorized!
we need that one in a shirt. "airbenders are bendy" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As soon as Jay mentioned a Blue Devils school mascot when Zion snuck into camp, I immediately imagined the Greendale Human Being infiltrating it along with him, which is both horrifying and hilarious.
Ok Im Buying that hey peaches popcorn. That flavor sounds banging
It was a Yuyan Archer who shot the blue spirit in the cartoon as well.
25:22 and the award for most abrupt tonal shift goes to
Adam & Popcorn Brian, that ad was hilarious, using Jay’s tactics against him 😂😂😂, well done! 👏🏼🍑🍫🍿😋
The ninja discussion just made me think of Beverly Hills Ninja
OH PLEASE LIVE ACTION KORRA
Shout out to Bryan Konietzko (one of the OG creators) who was a writer on this episode. Feels like some of the deep lore stuff that was brought over from comics and books was seamlessly integrated whereas some of the other episodes don't.
Dude, the popcorn is so gooood!!!! I ordered a bag of dark island and I ate it all in one go it was so good!!! I’ve already ordered two more bags.
27:50 Nice White Christmas pull
I think people’s opinions get wrapped up between the descriptions of “DIFFERENT” and “WORSE”
They see that something in it isn’t completely like the original and say “that’s not how the story goes”, but in a way, it ISN’T the same story. An adaptation can go for a 1-to-1 copy, or an alternate version of the story. Where it follows the same beats, but certain things are completely it’s own.
Yes, sometimes you will go “that’s not how that is.” but it isn’t just trying to be the same exact thing again, it’s an alternate take that can potentially grow its own audience and brings things of its own to the table. A lot of it is a matter of perspective I’d say. Especially since the original is still there for people who just want that.
Like hearing a music album, then hearing a remixed version after. It’s not the same, but it’s its own thing.
Obviously, people can have their personal opinions and preferences on how they’d rather the story play out, I’m not trying to take that away, but just because something is different, doesn’t automatically make it “Worse”, if you know what I mean.
Very well said.
30:11 YES & please get Amber Midthunder as Korra
Could make for some fun theories considering she was cast as Princess Yue in this series. There’s already a fan theory that Yue was born without a spirit because she was meant to be the next avatar in the cycle, and it’d be ironic considering Korra has most trouble with the spiritual side of the Avatar’s abilities.
Zuko did the Cape Fear entrance into the Fire nation
Hate that we didn't get Roku Vs The Fire Sages. That was one of my favorite scenes in the original
After watching Kiyoshi wreck shop in the second episode, I was extremely stoked to see Roku do it. And I felt like doing it with Kiyoshi first, was setting a nice president, for when Roku destroys an entire island. (I hope they find another way in later seasons to do something with that scene... Even slotting Roku into the story beat of this without pay off felt strange.)
@@colleenbooth2648 yes I agree. I feel like that was one of the highlights for most people and to miss out would be a shame. I'm sure we'll see roku again and he'll do us proud
Water-ever benders

The opening bits have been so good, just as good a Navs popcorn 😉
STRONGBAD MENTIIIIOOONNNNNEDDDDDD!!!¡!!!!!!!!!¡

IT FILLS MY HEART EVERY TIME HOMESTAR STUFF MENTIONED AW FUCK YEAH
When Adam was talking about Zuko being back on the boat (again), the first thing that went through my mind was "on the boat again" after the Willie Nelson song On the Road Again, (i'm a bit of a Weird Al Yankovic fan, so, someone should, i don't know, give the man a call ?).
Im finally caught up on Preview’d! Been a busy few weeks on my end with midterms and all. Can’t wait for the content to keep rolling and Navatar to return from his battles😎
Love the pre-show advert bits. More please! Wackier, the better too.
This is the episode that made me buy fully in to what they were doing here. I had some serious issues with eps 3-5 (just personal preference things and I plan on rewatching it to see if my opinion changed) but THIS WAS AWESOME. I hope they film seasons 2 and 3 back to back.
The bear monster is the forest spirit. The face stealing spirit that has Aang's friends is a different spirit
lol I love you Jay but you you haven’t seen the second and third seasons of ATLA, Zuko’s redemption arc is a thing of beauty! Just you wait
Praise be to the Morphin Grid 🤣
I think my biggest complaint about the story for the live action was that they put both Koh and Heibai in the same episodes and Heibai is just... never really resolved? Like you see Aang put the acorn there to tell him the forest will heal, but we never actually see the spirit calm down, it just has to be assumed, and I'm not sure if people who haven't already seen it would pick it up that it happened.
Yeah like I was actually all for seeing more of the spirits than we did in the original ep, but another 5 seconds to show him calming down and returning to panda form would have been nice. I guess it's implied with the statue, but it still would have been good to show the first example of a how spirit's true form can be corrupted into something more monstrous by its anger and pain.
It’s also kinda weird that Hei Bai is wounded because of the forest being burnt down, but Koh is the one who took the villagers? They never clarify if Koh is haunting that region in particular, or if he just shows up whenever there’s a chance to feed.
Kinda muddying the waters by combining the spirit world events.
@@Pixlriffs Not that it's explicitly stated but my guess on how it works is that Hei Bai did take the villagers away and brought them to the fog of lost souls once they were in the spirit world (so the light/fog coming out of his mouth was him "summoning" it). So spirits that are pissed with people will bring them to the fog as a test of character, and Koh is the punishment if they fail that test.
I wanna hear Adam talk up Korra more and more with each episode and season please, I freaking love Korra and will not hear any negative slander lol
I think Korra makes the Aang gang look good. Like korra elevates the OG more for me
@@ianaustin5012 When people try to rank ATLA or LoK higher, I'm like... ??
The two shows synergise amazingly.
Blue spirit! Eat ‘em up yum yum!
I do hope they devise a better crescendo moment in book 3 than Aang pressing his fused Shakra against a rock.
For these to episodes, the Zuko stuff was awesome, but how they handled the spirits, im split on. Like with Koh, the centipede one, they took out the way to keep from losing your face to him in the animated was you could not show any emotion and keep a straight face. Now I hate they took it out on one hand, but for a kid to stay emotionless, even the Avatar, even Aang, but he's still a kid would be hard. I guess in the animated I took it as he's a monk so it fits... but still I think taking that out makes more sense, and it's the spirit has to eat your soul fits better... on the other hand. how they handled the bear spirit, which is actually a panda in the animated not a land orca, tho maybe that is what orca ancestors looked like, i dunno. but in the animated they actually showed the forest heal and the land orca turned back into a panda spirit. Tho I guess for this show, being live action and more grounded, it would take longer for it to heal.... so I dunno.... I was just wanting to see the cute panda spirit.
Ah man I'm glad you guys love this series, your enthusiasm is so fun to watch.
(gasp) wolfman's got nards!
Adam wearing a ZELDA shirt. Yessss
Best adapted episode including all the changes.
Strange how growing a change how you view something. When I first saw the cartoon I was rather young and now having grown and having a child of my own, the Fire lord being so cruel to his son is hard to watch. I believe Ozai wants his children to be "strong" but at the sacrifice of their compassion and humanity is heartbreaking.
There was a killer whale street shark and had an inexplicably long tongue he used as his main power
This episode was much better than episode 4 and 5 in my opinion. But I still don't get why they had to include that conversation with June in the cave, rather than have the fight between Appa and Nyla, which was much cooler. And like they changed the creatures in episode 5 ,they also changed Koh here. That whole necklace thing and family was an addition that we really didn't need. The rest of the episode was great.
Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't have the rights to live action Korra, those are still at Paramount/Nickelodeon. But I think Netflix could do prequel series
If i didnt subscribe when yall talked about the yall shows with each being the Avatar, the Whatever Benders woulda got me lmao 😂
Hahah turn those tables
Hey what happened Jay when you dish out you must be prepared to receive as well. i love it, and am curious about the latest flavor
I cannot tell you how many times when he says Cel-A-brate! I also said Good times come on! -Adam and I are the same 😂
Best episode of the season for sure, the dramatic plot points and the development of both Aang and Zuko on this one is great. Not a fan of the Roku scene, however the rest of the episode is great
You bamboozled the bamboozler!
Jay the reason you probably think Zuko’s redemption arc is “janky” is because you actually haven’t even seen it yet lol. You still got two whole seasons of show to get through
For me that was the best episode of this season. Really added to Zuko's already fantastic character. Loved the 41st becoming his crew, it just made so much sense.
Dom: Family!!
What is a panda if not a land orca?
And bodies were caught
that teen girl squad reference just made my entire week. nerds
PS that's not the avatar, that's a cell phone! i'm an ADULT
PPS i'm so glad i'm not the only one that ugly cried at the end of this episode
The best episode of the season however the heart of the live action is through Zuko and Iroh and even tho I like that aspect. The other characters are completely overshadowed and I simply cannot get over that. It doesn’t feel like an Avatar show when our main character feels the weakest and has no real growth throughout season 1.
I like how they try so hard to make it seem like the intro advertisement for the popcorn isn't scripted for Adam and the popcorn friend, but it so clearly is. But good attempt nonetheless.
Hell yeah live action Korra! I'm so stoked to watch seasons 2 and 3 cause that's when the show goes from really good to really great, and I feel like this show can only get better!
I hope we get a live action Korra one day because of how screwed the show got with seasons one and two
Wait, did I misunderstand the schedule? I thought invincible would drop today. Oh well, this is great too, just threw me off a bit
Invincible tomorrow! I’m headed to lashies to tape it as I write this!
@@pReviewdnice! Navatar….awayyyy!
27:28 Uhm, correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought you stopped watching halfway through book 2?? Did you even see his whole redemption arc?
Beans
This was easily my favorite episode of the season. I’m a Zuko fan and Dallas Lui has done a wonderful job bringing him to live action and putting his own spin on the character.
A lot of people who haven’t seen the cartoon (yes they exist) enjoyed the live action which wasn’t the case with the Shamalan movie. If you aren’t constantly comparing it to the cartoon the Netflix version works as it’s own piece of media and is enjoyable. The movie fails in almost every area (acting, writing, directing, ect) So people acting like Netflix avatar is anywhere near as bad as the movie are baffling to me.
unsubscribing over Adam dabbing.
Bruce?
where's invincible episode 5
Waiting for One Piece video but avatar was also great
Nahh that joke ruined the moment😭 they missed Aang saying "you think we could've been friends if we met back then"
