    Thank you for watching. Sorry this video took so long to get out; I had to rerecord twice, rewrite the script three times, and spend a lot of extra time editing. The HoyoLab Post for the video will come out tomorrow.
    And again, this video is mostly about looking at why certain mechanics are broken, not necessarily the deck itself. The introduction of these mechanics has been the classic "boiling frog" scenario, so a lot of people haven't necessarily noticed the issue, but this update really helps reveal the issue. There are a lot of questionable things MHY seems to be doing with the TCG for the sake of pushing more "exciting" to watch aggro decks. I do hope this update is the exception and not the norm.

    @be_zero5528 Před 10 měsíci +794

    I think you guys are all missing the point. Wanderer is completely broken not due to his swirls or whatever, but because his burst, unlike any other character, allows you to directly and explicitly flame your opponent through his voicelines. This is unprecedented in any online-based TCG, and there's a reason for why other TCGs don't allow you to do it /s

    unpopular opinion: i think people blame wanderer just cause hes the one that does dmg when in reality i think Shenhe is at fault. Her mechanic to give free extra dmg is essentially just better than what most other characters can do simply because no other element has such a threshold breaking mechanic. Shenhe is just a really polarizing card - even if they nerf wanderer now, every time they release a ''would be balanced'' cryo or anemo unit they might become broken just because of her existence. Imagine if guoba gave +1 pyro dmg on everything...

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 10 měsíci +79

      This is partly to blame, sure, but Shenhe-Swirl decks have been around for ages without actually being "meta." The only meta Shenhe deck is a Superconduct deck that revolves around Raiden getting Chongyun and Shenhe's bursts out quickly.
      Currently, the most likely meta Hat Guy Deck doesn't even run Shenhe, it runs Eula and opts to constantly freeze opponents due to how Hat Guy can trigger reactions so easily.
      Shenhe certainly is a concerning character since her kit does involve some nigh IPE abilities, though.

      @@SausageGenshinTeapotTCG I get what you mean. I have played a lot of cardgames and i can say that for genshin TCG it takes very little for a card to be broken - id even argue that Raiden is still nuts and can be put in almost any deck because of her ult. But i do agree with the fact that metas should evolve gradually and not forcefully... Also can HOYO give Venti a break??? It can’t be a summon, because it’s too fast and it it’s multiple rounds. It can’t be “prepare” damage, because his burst is ALSO multiple rounds. I knew his burst would be hard to replicate, so I understand why they just plastered big damage and called it a day.

    Haven't played this game since Klee and Beidou released, but looking at this, Wanderer isn't even the most broken part of the deck. Fresh Wind of Freedom is by far the most broken card here, and I seriously question what Hoyo was thinking when they printed the card. A 0 mana "skip your opponent's turn" that always shows up in your opening hand, in a game littered with OTKs, is *not* okay. I actually looked up what other Arcane Legends exist, and none of them come anywhere close to the absurdity of this card.

      @@SausageGenshinTeapotTCG no, its not just stupidly broken, it is single handedly the strongest card in the game by 1 million light years. I play Magic: The Gathering, and there's no such card in that entire game (and that game has 50,000+ cards) that costs no resource and skips your opponents turn, and MTG has insanely broken cards, but 0 resource to skip opponents turn??? That is the real problem and without that being changed then you will only see new characters released that will either have to be severely nerfed and the entire game will warp around that single card. Fresh Winds of Freedom is the #1 problem.

    • @Ayzev
      @Ayzev Před 10 měsíci +5

    • @Goujiki
      @Goujiki Před 10 měsíci +1

      @Ayzev I understand what you mean, but its the equivalent of having another attack step for free. And players can't interact in genshin TCG during another players attack step, so it might as well be an entire turn almost, depending on if you have dice to make another move. It's still way too powerful of a card and will still warp all formats and future characters around itself, which is never a good thing, especially in a TCG that has no interaction or interruption effects during each players attack step

  • @joshuafenty5621
    @joshuafenty5621 Před 10 měsíci +42

    I think the main problem here is Fresh Wind of Freedom. Without that, Wanderer doesn’t blitz the entire board without his opponent having the opportunity to respond. They should nerf it by making it so that it has the same condition as Wind and Freedom (you have to be using two characters from Mondstadt to even include it in the deck). There isn’t a real reason for the other Arcane Legend cards to not have that region-specific stipulation.

    I love wanderor's aoe mechanic, but he's way to strong. I hope they nerf his single target dmg (maybe burst to 2 energy 4 dmg) instead of his aoe mechanic. Also we're probably waiting for more cards
    1) We need more cards (besides the arcane) that can clense elements off of characters.
    2) We need cards that provide resistance (it could be a support card or a resonance card which says -1 [cryo/hydro/pyro...] dmg this round).
    3) We need an arcane card that blocks opponents arcane. "Deplete your opponent's arcane token for this match."

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 10 měsíci +1

      There are artifacts in the main game that offer elemental resistance, so that is an option.
      Cleansing could be worked into other cards, but consider card economy. Would a deck necessarily have the room for it? Guess it would depend on how easy it is to use.
      I don't know about point 3. If that were the case, whoever goes first could just pop that card out and instantly leave you with a dead card in hand.
      I do think we need more interaction, though. What about a card that just says that the targeted character's next attack/skill costs an additional die of the corresponding element? It could certainly curtail more aggressive decks and help counter stuff like this a bit.

  • @moonlightnightisalright2088
    @moonlightnightisalright2088 Před 10 měsíci +2

    I don't think it's just a problem of some characters having overpowered skills and such, but I also think there is a problem of severely underpowered and "cluncky" characters eg: diona.
    TBH I don't even really care that there are power differences at all between characters eg barbara vs kokomi, I understand that as a TCG a part of the balancing process is to incentivise people to get more cards. Going back to barbara and kokomi, kokemi is genereally considered a better choice than barbara due to her cleaner hydro apllication, but barbaras healing can make her a better choice for geo and healing teams... The point is that there is a valid gameplay incentives to use both characters wich leads to more arectypical teams, more variety and more fun overall.
    Contrast ko-bra to diona vs deya, doina's lack of elemental application and good scaling with any variety of cards as a support character who is unlikely to get the energy necessary to burst results in her being almost completely by seasoned players, contrast to deya who has interesting mechanics while being a good support has led to popularity in various defensive teams despite not having the most damage or sheilding compared to someone like itto. Deya works because she can be used in a wide variety of situations to varing effects, whereas diona poor numbers in healing, damage, sheilding(1pt btw) and application result in her feeling horrible to play and basically importing one non-unit to the game.
    I want to also write a bit about the implementation of piercing damage/cross party damadge, generally when built to a characters skill it is overpowered. An easy example would be ganyu, with the character being able to deal a max of 4 to each character in a single 5 dice shot provided everything goes right. But raw damage isn't the only problem, inconsistencies across characters like fishle and keqiung in terms comparing dice cost (3/4 respectively) to sheer output (basically the same) leads to the mechaninic feeling off, however this is personal preferance. A good way to nueter teams that rely on peicing anemo damage would be to make it a flat rate of damage on the person attacked removing peircing damage but keeping application, however this will not decrease to the core problem of scara's overwhelming strength and would severely fuck up the current and moslty okay meta swirl has going with characters like surcose, kazuha, and menkeki. In any case in most situations pericing damage can, and does quickly become unbalanced in a bad way, but characters like enjo and mostly nahida(though she's scating on thin 'king ice) adds variety and makes the game more fun overally in my opinion.
    Finally I just want to talk about numbers, primaraly our scara, itto, ganyu numbers that we have been seeing for a while. to put simply in most situations these numbers are too big for most randomly selected teams to stand a chance against. Im not gonna talk about it much since sausage has done such a good job explaining it, but simply put, how is diona gonna survive 6 normal atk damage from itto 5th round, expecailly when he has like 10 sheild points.
    TLDR: I think the best choice for the tcg right now is to spend a patch rebalancing both numbers and gimmicks of its pre-existing characters so that variety is encouraged and so we arn't all just playing the latest version of ama-miya

    • @20DX00
      @20DX00 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Diona freeze (Death Penalty as coined by the wider tcg community) has a genuinely decent matchup vs most meta decks, some say she has a better matchup vs BIN/DIN (imo it's equal), there's even multiple diona lists that topped the past two 4.1 weekly tournaments
      But that's coming from the competitive side of the community, some of which are fully dedicated to diona and DP isnt an easy deck to pilot. Dehya and Diona serve completely different roles as opposed to the barbara kokomi comparison.

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 10 měsíci +5

      My biggest gripe with Diona was her Skill Card costing 4, but that's been fixed. I've never thought that Diona was all too underpowered. Kokomi vs Barbara depends on the deck. BIN was meta for awhile with Barbara over Kokomi because a skilled Barbara player can negate reactions. In fact, in the video here, if the Dehya/Barbara player played around their Barbara more, they would have negated a lot more of that incoming damage. But they didn't, so they took an instant double-piercing damage by letting Cryo-Swirl and Freeze happen all at once.
      I've also never had much of an issue with Ganyu post-nerf. Ganyu's overall damage is expensive to get out, often resulting in only one action per round. This usually causes her to get out-damaged by simple lack of dice and flexibility.
      Itto's big thing is that he was only Single-Target. Could he do lots of damage? Sure, but so could Noelle. At least it's single-target and requires investment to achieve.
      I do agree that some significant rebalancing of mechanics is necessary, though.

    • @nonamepasserbya6658
      @nonamepasserbya6658 Před 10 měsíci

      TBH I want Amamiya back, she is a victim of the barkomi vs diona debate and no one seems to want to help her get anything but freeze (and even then her competitor does better at freeze than her). Itto is perfectly fine and you are underselling Diona. Genshin stall already break aggro beat stall rule so she needs to have someone like Itto to keep her in check. If anything, barring these special exceptions like Shenhe SC where the problem lies in the carry's teammate and Itto, character MEANT for aggro as a whole is painfully weak in GITCG. Characters like DIluc has a hard time going against stall without them out life AND out dmg him (Watatsumi Crown, Dehya talent, Quicken Hyperstall (soon)). Ramp isn't always the answer. They need a different answer than ramp and they tried with newer aggro like Hutao, Electro cube and Itto.
      Swirl is like that BECAUSE Maguu used to be broken. Buffing back Maguu will render the swirl problem nonexistent (on that note what were they smoking with Kazuha...why would you want to swap to your DPS to make them take dmg unless it's a stall comp)

    I don't even play much anymore but just by watching the biggest issue is how much damage his burst does. The AoE damage is one thing, while strong, is counterable. Standby character damage is also strong but honestly not unmanageable. 7-8 damage on burst including swirls potentially is just wtf? Shenhe buffs all those swirls and Nahida procs on ANY reaction.
    Nerfs I would do personally
    Scara burst does not need to do 7-8 damage it should do way less. He should be good at AoE or Single Target not both and I'll stick to AoE.
    Nahida doesn't need to proc on all reactions it should be dendro reactions only.
    Shenhe is probably fine at most make icy quills 2 turns instead of 3 but honestly probably is fine the way she is.
    And just completely rework that Arcane card cause that's actually just stupid idk why they allowed that.

      His burst is certainly absurd, all things considering. The burst is just the kicker on top to set off Fresh Winds combos.

    My zhongli is still a monster but I had to give mango kenki the boot because I needed someone who could talk scara I choose Bennit the soul pourpose it to get his burst get his card and kill scara as fast as humanly possible before he can wail on me I litteraly had to change zhongli’s deck position to make sure he didn’t die early
    Edit: my deck can win against scaramuche but only if I play just right but once I get rid of the hat guy the rest just crumbles you can also try and target the buffers early prevent them from boosting attack and have a fodder character who is there to waste there buffs and stay alive long enough for you to set up you main dps. A fast attacking deck or stall deck is the way to go in my opinion. The goal is to kill nahida or scara first and for god sake remember your healing cards they will save you, sangonomiya will be your best friend.

    Replaced Nahida with Kazuha, so I could use anemo resonance. It provides more survivability since cards are moving more frequent. It also allows me to replace food cards with more usefull ones.
    But I don't really like Shenhe, honestly. Any good alternatives?

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 9 měsíci

      Replacing Nahida removes the extra damage that allowed the deck to be as fast as it was. Without Nahida, Shenhe needs her burst to dish out equal damage. Of course, this is somewhat of a moot point after Shenhe's nerf since now her burst is more valuable than her Skill.
      And no, for this particular archetype, Shenhe is pretty much required due to her damage buffing. The other alternative is playing something like electro charge or superconduct with Hat Guy, though you could experiment with various element combinations.

  • @hitoshikizerozaki8215
    @hitoshikizerozaki8215 Před 10 měsíci +7

    I think Kazuha or Venti might be better choice than Nahida here. Sure Nahida deal more damage but we lose anemo dice and anemo reso make this deck less flexible

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Having anyone other than Nahida in here forces this deck into requiring Shenhe's burst for the extra damage.
      It makes it far to susceptible to Send Off. Because this deck doesn't need her burst, it ends up being a turn faster than other Shenhe/Hat Guy variants. I discuss this in detail in the video. I've also encountered similar decks; they're too slow compared to this in most cases.
      The biggest weakness with this is that without Hat Guy, nothing holds the deck together. Shenhe and Nahida have no synergy together without Anemo, but overall, this deck still is generally better.

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG
      @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG  Před 10 měsíci +1

      That depends entirely on whether or not you actually WANT to constantly quick-swap. At the end of the Dehya match, quick-swapping would have forced an unnecessary usage of dice, so you wouldn't want Katheryn there. Also, Katheryn costs a die to play. In longer, reverse-sweep matches, Katheryn possibly could be better, but Leave It to Me usually gets the job done for cheaper without getting in the way.

    I dont play tcg a lot but slowly started to get interested in it, and yeah, Scara being able to deal so much AoE damage while also having a essentially oneshotting burst is just too much.

    • @hooni2212

    • @SausageGenshinTeapotTCG

      Indeed. His damage potential is far too much for being so versatile. The AoE could be fine, though I do feel that a surprise 5-6 on a Standby Character is a bit much since it defeats half of the purpose of having a character on Standby.

      @@SausageGenshinTeapotTCG I think at that point it might be more because of other characters on that deck that would need to be nerfed.
      The concept of scara being able to keep the constant pressure with aoe is cool, so I think that can stay, but maybe nerf characters like Nahida? Gameplay wise her skill only triggers when a user makes a dendro reaction, so I was surprised that on TCG even swirls can trigger them. So maybe make so only dendro reactions can trigger it, but swirls cannot
      Scara's burst also shouldn't be able to deal that much damage when he is already so good at AoE. And the Venti arcane card being that good.
      From my limited understanding of tcg, that deck as a whole has some pretty op combinations so maybe a solution would be to give slight nerfs to each individual troublemaker to make so scara swirl isn't that oppressive while also not killing each card for other decks.

      @@hooni2212 Well, I mention the issue with Nahida and IPEs in the video.
      From what I've been informed (and I really should test it since I own Nahida), her skill does work on every reaction in the main game (again, according to info from my Discord). I brought up the very same point since I also thought that it was just dendro reactions (and am not entirely sure that it isn't).
      Truthfully, the biggest issues here are just the nuttiness of Hat Guy with Shenhe and the Fresh Winds of Freedom Card. That card simply shouldn't exist in its current state.
