Late Fall Bushcraft Camping. Goat Backpack to Pristine 9K Lake for Firebox Stove Trout With My Dogs

- I had my goats (Bill & Levi) pack my favorite Bushcraft Spain Camping gear into a remote high country lake only to find it had frozen over. Luckily, the next day brought some warmer weather and I was able to do some trout fishing. What fun! Good fishing and delicious food to be enjoyed in this primitive serene location. When so much of life seems outside of our control I feel a sense of reassurance coming back to a place finding it completely unchanged, seemingly timeless. Being a part of these pure places seems to unwind some of the brain damage that accumulates as we progress through life. I come home feeling more grounded, with a freshly calibrated perspective that keeps my priorities in line with my values. So I can keep trying my best to be a good father, husband and fellow human-being.
How did I train my pack goats?
I got Bill and Levi when they were still being bottle-fed so I could create a bond with them to become the leader of our herd. I've been putting small light weight packs on them and taking them for long walks from the very beginning. They instinctively feel a need to be close to me and won't let me out of their site. If at any time they lose track of me they immediately become panicked and start bleating out in an attempt to relocate me. I call back and they come running so they can once again feel the perceived safety of my presence. They can carry 25% of their body weight and you don't need to bring any type of feed for them. They easily fit in the back of a pickup truck. They are the perfect pack animal for me.

That backpacking crew just makes me smile every time I see you guys out and about. Bill and Levi are so well behaved, you must have put a lot into training them. I worked with goats years ago and while they are the cutest, they are devils and need to have their goat noses into everything. lol Juno was so excited by the snow, not sure it is Ash's favorite but once in the coat, all was well! haha! That area was spectacular and so cool that you landed the fish! I can picture in my mind a foldable reflector oven that attaches to the side of the firebox, you almost had it with the equipment you had! Thanks for sharing, so enjoy your adventures! :) :)

Love what you do !! I just finished a camping trip towards the mountain's.. Freeze up is here in Washington state.. !!!! Seen our first snow up about 4,500 feet.. Still not a hard freeze yet.. But close !! Got some rainbow Trout from Dog lake.. And a couple of Brookies.. My Dachshunds and I Love the outdoors.. We have good sleeping bags plus a good campfire to keep warm !! But soon it will be too much to get up in the mountain's !! But we will keep going as long as it is safe to do so !! Keep up with the Good video's !! Love watching g you fish !! Whoa, that setup is a game changer - Cooks steak, boils water, and wards off bugs at the same time(if there are bugs). No longer need to wait for the hot coals to form. Definitely gonna try that out.

There are times I want to go do things like this because I was a scout and haven't been in a long time. but I feel mental health problems hold me back. I want to go out and have an experience but it's hard because I am very grounded to where I am at currently. Your videos help me bridge that gap, and hopefully one day I'll be out in the brush where I really want to be. Thanks again for this beauty, getting some of your products this winter.
Take small steps and work your way up to a bigger adventure. You'll be glad to get out in the purity on nature. Life is all about small progress everyday that adds up to accomplishing big things over a lifetime :)
I think I have experienced similar issues several times in my life. Going out into the wild nature helps a lot! For me it works. After a day out there you feel so replenished. Cheers
