Nottingham triple killer Valdo Calocane's sentence not 'unduly lenient', rules Court of Appeal

- The Court of Appeal has refused to change the sentence of Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in Nottingham last summer.
The 32-year-old was given an indefinite hospital order after admitting the manslaughter of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates by reason of diminished responsibility, and the attempted murder of three others last June.
The Attorney General referred the sentence to the Court of Appeal in February, with lawyers arguing last week that Calocane - who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia - should be given a “hybrid” order where he would be treated before serving the remainder of the sentence in custody.

He was the wrong colour to get a PROPER jail prison sentence, ya' see. 🤬
Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent
Zero punishment for someone who has murdered three people. WTF
He was a paranoid schizophrenic who was evaluated to be in psychosis / hallucinations
If someone isn't of their right mind, should you punish them, or help them?
Murder requires premeditation and there was none here.
@@guronanak9218 no it doesnt, why was mikey roynons killers charged with murder if they didnt pre meditate and it was a random attack at a party? Its still murder, learn the law you clown 😂😂😂😂
@@po72644 ask that same question if God Forbid he hurts a member of your family. you'd sing a WHOLE DIFFERENT TUNE!
@@guronanak9218 yes there was
Disgusting verdict!
So so sorry for the families of Grace, Barney & Ian - this murderer should be in prison for life - no, no justice for innocent civilians 😥
What does justice look like to you? It sounds like revenge that you're interested in?
If someone is so mentally unwell (diagnosed paranoid Schizophrenic), why would prison be better than a mental health hospital?
@@po72644because he was faking being mentally ill.
He knew what he was doing.
@@po72644 Are you serious, three people murdered and you say put him in mental hospital, capital punishment, end of.
Yet a guy of 75 just got minimum of 40 years for being the mastermind behind a robbery where a copper got shot and killed and he didn't even fire the gun. We all know how the system works and innocent general public just don't matter.
A cousin of mine was sent down for 26 years for conspiracy to supply class A and conspiracy to supply a firearm. No cocaine or firearms were ever found in the family homes, the family businesses, or associate homes.
It's the law that all offenders involved in a crime are guilty, that guy you mentioned must have known that his buddies were armed
Micky, your refering to 'Piran Ditta Khan'? He was around 56 years old when he committed the armed robbery and flee to Pakistan after. To avoid investigation, our laws. Multiple charges, not just murder.
'prosecutors argued that he was the “mastermind” behind the robbery as he organized it and purchased the weapons'
'The officer Beshenivsky was 38 years old.. She was shot dead at point-blank range by one of the three men who carried out the robbery. Her colleague, Teresa Milburn, survived after being shot in the chest.' (not shot by him)
Search 'Piran Ditta Khan ' and 'Judiciary' and the Judges sentencing remarks (includes details of court evidence, conclusions) can be accessed on Judiciary page.
'Piran Ditta Khan, for the murder of Sharon Beshenivsky, the sentence is one of imprisonment for life. The minimum term would be 40 years but for the 1578 days I have already referred to and which I shall deduct. That results in a minimum term of 35
years and 247 days, taking account of the seriousness of the offence.
On Count 2, robbery, the sentence is one of imprisonment for life, with a minimum term of 10 years’ imprisonment.
On Count 3, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, the sentence is one of
imprisonment for life, with a minimum term of 14 years and 8 months’ imprisonment.
On Count 4, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, the sentence is one of imprisonment for life, with a minimum term of 14 years and 8 months’ imprisonment.
On Count 5, possession of a prohibited weapon, the sentence is one of 10 years’
imprisonment.
On Count 6, possession of a prohibited weapon, the sentence is one of 10 years’ imprisonment.'
Jews changed the laws
That judge wants sacking, how disgraceful the UK judiciary is a Wokefest!
Black privilege
Absolute nonsense and you know it.
Plenty of white paranoid schizophrenics also get locked away in mental hospitals
You clearly haven't done any research on your own opinion
Is he black??
Lack of justice, as is normal in this country now, too many offenders are claiming they have mental problems and given a slap on the wrist
@@fabianking997 maybe you should watch the videos you comment on.
Bunch of bloody cowards. No justice for the members of the families. Failure in Justice.
What would you have done, then?
@@-_-dontcare-_-I can't wait for the response 😂
@@however-yh2jyisnt it obvious? Sentence him to a whole life tariff you clown
@-_-dontcare-_- I dunno - maybe put him in psychiatric care for life BEFORE he murdered 3 innocent people, rather than waiting until after. This was the fault of the entire mental health and law enforcement services, and as Graces father said was entirely preventable had those in positions of authority simply done their jobs. They were cowards for not acting appropriately.
@@Johndoe-gf7eu 😂 Your legal expertise is wasted here. Maybe you should study for the bar instead of just propping it up and running your mouth.
So they giving him a nice sentence in a hospital to treat him even though they will never release him? Should have got a whole life sentence in prison !
The police, probation, politicians and the judges have so much blood on their hands from cowardice over the last few years, yet they simply apologise when they keep getting it wrong, there’s never any repercussions for their actions.
That has to change.
They will probably trot out the old "lessons have been learned" line. Until the next time f course.
Yes, think of the people in the post office scandal falsely accused of crimes they did not commit and after many years are still fighting their case, they had their lives destroyed, some even ended their lives and those at the top claim they didn't know what was taking place.
Not sure the judges do. They can only deal with what is front of them and what the law allows. If the police were aware and did nothing, that is an issue, likewise, parole officers (Though I can find no mention of Calocane having one.). Politicains have more facts (hopefully) than you about criminal justice and mental health and should take a wider view. John Rawls original position (Creating laws where you have no idea who you are in the world with those laws.) would be a good place for a politician to be when creating any law.
I'm not sure general prison population best serves anyone for Calocane. He has severe mental health issues, which agreed should have been flagged earlier, But a secure hospital for the rest of his life does not seem leniet to me.
@@jiubboatman9352 They all play their part, there are two cases that come to mind, a judge sentenced a man who r*ped a 12yr old to 180hrs of community service, and a judge that gave no punishment to a 17yr old who did the same to a 13yr old because the 17yr old said he didn’t know r*pe was wrong (religious reason)
Then you have the police arresting a victim of assault because arresting the person who committed the crime was seen as possibly inciting the crowd.
Of course its 'unduly lenient'. The hospital sentence means he could get out in 5,10,15,20 etc years if the psychiatric hospital deems him recovered and FIT FOR SOCIETY.
HE SHOULD BE IN PRISON, AND COULD HAVE GOT MAXIMUM 40 YEARS FOR EACH MURDER, AS ALL 3 WERE PREMEDITATED IN MY MIND.
Belmarsh has a secure hospital wing he could have been sent to, for example (its where tommy R was did his 6 months sentence, for filming outside leeds court on sentencing day).
Who trusts that when he is eventually released, that they'll get that decision right.
Mercy to the guilty is crulty
Is someone guilty of they're so mentally unwell that they're not in control of themselves? He was a paranoid schizophrenic
Then who’s responsible can’t just put the blame somewhere else and no one accountable they made mistakes where innocent people got murdered sorry dosnt cut it time authority’s and people making these decisions are held accountable for there failures, these poor family’s have been destroyed because of incompetence.
If this fella didnt have a sun tan things would've been a lot different and you kno it...
Total pish
That isn't what the statistics say. Black people more likely to be persecuted by police.
This person was evaluated by two psychiatrists, medical mental health doctors, and he was diagnosed with paranoid Schizophrenia
Before you blurt out Casual racists, perhaps do some research on your opinion
Yeah they was for me I assaulted two police and got three years but I had change of medication and they throw it out...BS
@@po72644 no they aint😂😂😂
You're taking the piss.
Our justice system is totally fkd up!!
Once again what a joke let off for mental health reasons
Sad irony that his daughter had been a pupil at the same school as Daniel, the young boy stabbed to death 2 weeks ago in Hainault.
These so called judges are bloody useless time after time they give lenient sentences they live in a entitled cocooned world.
The police and it's systems were and still are so badly run and this is the tragic outcome.
You couldn't make it up. 😮
What was the condition he had? Iv not followed the case. I’m not heartless to people with mental health problems, but at what point does a mental health problem cross over into just being an evil bas****? Surely that can be abused in the courts
I believe he was a paranoid schizophrenic, who they had decided needed help. They just never got around to helping him.
@@drummingtildeath If they knew he was in that dangerous state, a threat to lives, he should have not been allowed loose, they should be held accountable.
@@jameshunter7181 yes, they let everyone down.
Details are on Judiciary site, just Google his name and Judiciary. The 'approved judgment'.
Out of touch beyond belief
This is truly awful. Mentally ill people are in prison have been in prison for decades held in solitary Bronson, Maudley just 2 examples. This hospital order means as soon as he can convince a psychiatrist that he's recovered or controlled by medication he'll be out and free to stop said medication. What then?
Though Sharia law would restrict many actions in Western culture, it would be certain to put out the fire in your heart caused by a catastrophe like this, and many more the news outlets don't showcase.
British Justice. 😂😂
They got justice. They want revenge. Not the same thing hence the different spelling
This case needs two words. Vigilante justice.
Disgusting verdict, and the lack of remorse in those dead eyes says it all
He's so called the victim 😡
the mental health card played once again
Broadmoor for life ?????????????????
Old farts got it wrong again
Same as parole board, they have no shame or logic.
"Multiculturalism is our strength"
I blame the familys of these victims. Where are they? why arent they speaking out in protest, they would get backing!
Dont look back in anger i guess.
Correct decision you have to take emotions out of it the guy had severe mental health problems the system is at fault not the patient.... it could affect anyone of us at any time
So convenient saying he’s mental Such a cop out 😡😡😡
If they said that after he committed murder you might be able to claim that but it was well known way before the murders that he need mental health treatment and assistance.
