What men need to be taught is to NEVER let women off the hook. Not even for the smallest things. Always call her out. Not in an aggressive way, but not in a playful way too. Be serious and assertive when it comes to her respect for you. Always go by your guts. If it feels wrong to be told something, then it's wrong of her to have said it and you should call it out instantly.
The guy starts becoming needy because he becomes overly dependent upon her for sex and affection. He starts becoming fearful that he will lose it, so turns into a super pleaser. I think it’s very important to maintain some distance so you don’t get swept away by your emotions. This happened to me a few times in the past. wow ..... that's EXACTLY what happened to me 2 week ago, a girl started chasing me around (wanting a boyfriend) and when i finally talked to her and showed interest in her she lost all sort of attraction towards me, later-on she showed me a very disrespectful attitude, when i told her that i had enough and walked away she, all of a sudden, started all over again .. now she's trying to make me jealous and chasing me again.

This is happening to me now. I started investing into the relationship even though I told myself not to get too attached. I had something similar to the story you told here. I don´t want to tell the details of her insults and I didn´t react emotionally only asked if she only can be disrespectful and left, break contact, and out. It´s hard but the only way if you at least want to keep your self-respect.

Yesterday we got into a fight and she behaved disrespectfully, even after the fight got solved and we were talking normal, her language was just really taunting so I told her I don't recognize her anymore, she was my most beautiful possession when I woke up in morning and by the night, she is just a different person, she got speechless and we haven't talked since.
It would indeed be sad if all women and all relationships were like this but certainly many are and perhaps even the majority. Of course there will also be varying degrees from extreme to mild. Both need to work to keep a relationship fresh and exciting in an open and honest way. A woman needs to know when to stop her attempts to make the guy jealous (a little jealousy can be healthy) and a guy also needs to know when he can be loving back without being too soft and easy.
