Here I take a look inside a very common outboard back from 1978, I will compare it's build to a 1995 china/Hong Kong made Evinrude 3.3 hp outboard , Pros & Con's of both.
Another Great video. Still hoping for a new video on your motor lift-tank (I’d like to build one like it) and on your “go to” test equipment and tools. I built a tool cart to wheel around in my garage to tinker on outboards. Let me know if you want to see it. Keep up the good work. Thank you. Chris from Iowa.
Thanks for the video. Have the same. Starts up great but doesn't idle well at low rpm. My manual shows a small filter thingy built into the shut-off valve opening that screws into the tank. I think I might backflush it to see if partially clogged and if this helps.
Hey man. I have a 2hp johnson 1977. The throttle spring on the side of the carb has come loose. Where does it fix to? so that the throttle springs back and dosent stay open.
Hi Kodi, the throttle seems to have a slow response? Is that normal for that engine? I see you have played and sang for awhile. Did you play at anytime with a band way back when?
Good day sir. First off just wanna say how much I appreciate your videos. Very informative, helpful and well done. Nice blues tune btw. Anyways I was wondering when a guy replaces the leg oil in these 2 hp's. How do you know how much to add? Ive only seen lower units with 2 screws. I only see one on this guy. Thanks for your help.
Yeh I don't know what they were thinking with the 1 screw set-up, What I do is get the toothpaste type of gear oil container cut the tip off as little as possible to let oil flow stick it in the fill hole & then stick a small nail in the hole to let air out as oil goes in, go slow & top it off so no more oil can go in then replace the screw. kb
The beauty of the old 2hps was their simplicity, most parts are readily available, and they are easy to service. Not particularly powerful, but they will idle down nicely. They run great "until they don't"....Don't know what it is that happens to the powerheads, they wear out in some way that causes them to be hard starting, low on power, and poor idle....Someday, I will examine one of these things closer to figure out just what happens to them...The darn clips you mention are ridiculously priced, and those metal brackets/hardware can be a nightmare in salt water. The water pump impeller housing is the gearcase, so it is usually best to install the expensive SS water pump kit with the plastic housing when servicing the water pump. These engines usually don't get enough use to actually get "worn out", but get messed up/rusted easily due to lack of use and poor storage procedures (left down inside a nice wet/damp sailboat storage locker). I never had any use for the hong kong engine, but never gave them much of a chance. Will keep an open mind when viewing the next video....
I’m only getting 60 psi on the compression. Do u know were it should be? It starts for a second and dies. Good spark, and I changed the head gasket.still need to do the intake.piston and cylinder has no scouring at all.
I have a big Johnson😂. Just kiddin', I bought a 1978 2hp Evinrude, and it's running pretty rough. It's getting spark, probably needs a good carb cleaning.
Do not use paper filters on a pe mix gas / oil this is Y we have screen filters 🤪 so we don’t filter out the oil in the gas. Motor not like that. That’s all folks happy sailing
Love the older outboards they're so cool. And love the music too. 🤘😁
+Scott Johnson, Yep' I'm a fan of the older kickers 4 sure, Thanks for digg'n on the blues
I have a little 1972 Evinrude 2hp mate nice little motors 🙂
+The Lucky Strike, Yes indeed, very nice little kickers 4 sure. kodi

HaHa. Just found your channel and fixing a few outboards. Definitely a subscriber now

Kodi, you fix motors you can sing, what else can you do?
I love those cute little motors.
Enjoyed the video! Hopefully the sun will come out soon.

What spark plug would you recommend for the 2 hp?

Need to ask you about some parts. How do I get ahold of you??
That's a good question?

Awesome song did you write it?
+Tall Timber, Thanks for the kind words, Yes I wrote the little blues diddy , kodi
That really cool I think you should play in the videos more. Looks like a Martin guitar?
Do you answer questions?
+KS If I can. kodi
my johnson 2hp just lost spark last use 5 min into lake ride lol

Boy rebuilding the lower units on those things are not fun at all. I fought a drive shaft seal for 2 weeks.
+brt 123, Yep' not much room in those lil' egg betters 4 sure. kodi
It would have been good if you would have talked more about the carb cleaning rather than alot of babbling rambling.
Thank U 4 the coments. & 4 watching. kodibass
