I do wish you guys would explain fully what those mixture screws do. This is one of the best descriptions I've seen on YT but even you don't stress they are not to be played with or wound back and forth full or even half turns! They are there to GENTLY find the sweet spot within as little as a quarter of a turn and once found LEFT ALONE, one for high revs and the other at low. Motorcyclists learn to tune their carbs with a screwdriver, once tuned not touched until needed maybe a year later. Oh yes, and as the workshop manual states, it's a delayed reaction, you move the knob a fraction and wait, 5 or 10 seconds for the revs to respond, it ain't an instant thing! They are not throttles!
I just got one and I think its great even after I broke the pin the holds the prop to the shaft nothing a stainless steel bolt and some smart didn't fix
These Evinrude/Johnson 2 HP engines are notorious for overheating. Changing the impeller may NOT fix it. There is a water pump retrofit-kit that can be purchased that will solve the problem!

Thank you for posting this! Your comment complemented the only thing missing from this video.
Both are rich fuel to lean fuel mixture. Top is high soeedrich and lean, the bottom is idle tick over rich and lean.

Great video thanks
Just picked up a 17ft aluminum canoe with this very identical Johnson colt outboard. For one payment of 250$ thanks to my good friend mark.

Should water come out of the holes on the shaft? On mine I feel exhaust coming out but no water visible and the upper shaft below engine gets hot
Change the impeller, mine acted the same.
Cool. Do you think this will work on a KC K12 kayak?
Frank Stein sure....works great
I need carb linkage for mine. Does anybody know of available parts?
Does this motor have one or two cylinders? It sounds like two but I am not sure..
Single cylinder
Will's Garage Thank you! It looks like a lovely little motor.
I have one of these but I think the compression is too low. Do you know how many psi I should get with a compression test?
70-80 psi would be fine..
60 psi would be fine for something with such low output. Even a bit lower would be ok
Anything above 80 is good. 80psi and under it will not perform very well. I've owned 5 of these
How do I take the top off
This guys does an complete disassembly & reassembly of this exact motor. czcams.com/video/odC4CkC2HcU/video.html
how do you turn it off
+Jamie Mc donnell As seen in the video, you put the throttle hard to the left.
What would a motor like this cost today..just a rough guesstimate
If the government butt out these motors produced today would be dirt cheap.
