    Great advice, JD. Our kids think we're crazy for the money we've spent rv'ing. Like many others we understand it's an investment in a 'lifestyle'. For us, the memories, friendships, fun times, places we've seen, is all worth it. Very good video, brother. Hope all is well.

    Great points. An automobile purchase is the exact same thing since you lose value the moment you drive it off the lot. It is about getting away and enjoying time with family and friends. Or getting back to nature and relaxing. If you are looking purely from a financial perspective, a house is the absolute worst purchase you could make, however how many of us own our homes. Again, you have to determine what is best for you and your family. It’s all about what you enjoy.

      @Thepriest39 Před 14 dny

      Buying a house is the best purchase that you can make. When or if you sell it you will make your money back. Renting a home or an apartment is the worst option. Everything that you paid is pissed away. 22 years in my home and the wife and I have never regretted it.

    • @kevinw9424
      @kevinw9424 Před 14 dny

      Take a $300,000 house with a 30 year mortgage. Depending on your interest rate that house could cost you $450,000 to $600,000. Now if you are paying cash, that completely changes things and now you are only looking at the purchase price plus insurance, taxes and maintenance costs. Definitely could come out ahead.

    • @Thepriest39
      @Thepriest39 Před 14 dny +1

      @@kevinw9424 my home is worth 3 times what we originally bought it for. Paying rent for 22 years would have got us absolutely nothing. Rent has continued to climb since we bought our house. Currently rent is twice what our mortgage is. So again how is buying a home a bad decision.? We get to do what we want with our home vs a rental. Building my 22X40 shop next to my home would not only be impossible but improbable if we rented. Also adding our hot tub and pool can’t be done in a rental.

    So many people don’t do this. I found when I was shopping for a RV most salesman would loose patience with me because I asked a lot of questions and looked over a unit longer than most. I never disclosed my financial decision to them and that would aggravate them. I found the private small dealers are way better to buy from in my area. Way too many impulse buyers.

    Rv’s of all recreational equipment have the highest depreciation rate. It’s unfortunate but reality. And given the demand for space they are not as convenient to use as they were 10-20 years ago.

    We have 3 dogs, boarding them is $160 per day.
    We prefer to have healthy ingredients in our food ny cooking our own vs eating out.
    Plus, we own rural acreage that isn't near any hotels.

    Everyone needs a barn cat and shop lizard (but NOT a lot lizard).
    Too many dealers get off scotfree for their fraudulent actions, anti-consumer policies, and overall poor service after the sale.
    We need a better way to track and share our experiences for others to learn from...
    Maybe I'll get with my IT professional wife and put something on the web for folks to use.

    Great video JD. I’ve never RV’d before, I’ve been researching (call me a nerd 🤓). Seems to me after watching this that the phrase “Buy your second camper the first time around” comes into play. Just buy once and be one and done since they are so expensive. Like my vehicles, buy it and drive it until it drops. By the RV you want and use it until it drops.
    Quick question… your big awning, can you get a larger one for your Brookstone? Appears there is room to take it all the way to the front. Should you need to get in that front storage for some reason it would keep you out of the rain plus extend your shaded patio.

    It all comes down to priorities, unless you are saving all earnings, everything else is generally bad financial investments including having children. Spend money one what you love not necessary what earns the best returns. End of the day, when the end comes for all of us, can’t take your money with you. Balance savings with spending on things you love

    I can't think of ANY dealer worth 10k more.... I can't think of a chain dealer I would want working on my rig. The RV industry has become worse than a pack of attorneys. Okay, maybe a I have a bad attitude a little, but the horror stories coming out of the industry is appalling!!! For every "good one" I hear there seems to be 5 bad ones, unless having your rig at their place for 3 months then finding out they only fixed part of your list of concerns is acceptable... if making 12 months of payments, but only having your rig for 3 of those months works for you... well you got more of something than I do. More patience, more money, more time, more stupidity????

    RV's are not an investment. They're a continually depreciating asset that starts the countdown to $0 the day you tow/drive it off the lot. It's a luxury item that you have to accept will be worth less or worthless. The value comes from the enjoyment of using it, the memories you make, the friends you gain. Same goes for the majority of boats, motorcycles, vehicles, any other recreational item.

    Shop the dealership, one dealership will low ball you a price but in the dirty details you find they are changing you a lot of extra dealer fees including getting a third party inspection of the trailer virus a different dealership that is a higher price point but no hidden fees or mark up and let you have a third party inspection at no extra charge
