    And Just Like That has been a disappointment to Sex and the City fans since the beginning, but as it nears a second finale… is the show finally starting to get its magic back?! Through two seasons, we kept hate-watching, hoping that maybe it would start to feel something like the old show we knew and loved. After a season and a half, we started to lose faith… but then, somewhere in the middle of season two, the show started giving off sparks that evoked old Sex and The City magic! Old characters are feeling more like themselves, new characters are becoming more relatable, and Aidan Shaw has returned once again. So, we couldn’t help but wonder… is And Just Like That finally getting its mojo back?!

    With Aidan, I was like ugh, not again.
    But I like how they wrote them maturely in the show. I also liked how Carrie changed so far with him. She listens to him about his fears and does not judge him. She also takes it slow with him. She does not push anything with him.
    I also love that she is excited to be with him and their kitchen gadget store date was adorable and shows that couples can have fun in these little moments.

    S2E8 was honestly the first time AJLT felt and sounded like the old SATC for several reasons for me personally:
    1) Seema and Carrie were able to have that difficult but realistic and honest talk about Seema not wanting to be a third wheel to Carrie and Aidan in the Hamptons.
    2) Carrie admitting that Big may have been a mistake shows that all the online commentary from therapists and psychologists about Big being a classic textbook narcissist have finally reached the ears of the show writers.
    3) Aidan was always the emotionally healthy guy and finally Carrie sees it and gets it.
    4) Miranda is getting closer to her old, rational professional self with razor-sharp intelligence
    5) The song which they used to close out the episode has the exact same vibes and energy as the music from the old series.

    I have to defend Steve!
    After years of abuse by Miranda, he finally stood up to her. I loved how he brought up that there are more things that make up a house than paying the mortgage. He literally made that house. He rebuilt it. He stayed at home with Marta and the kids. Considering Miranda broke up their marriage and was a hypocrite about the cheating, he has every right to stay in the house. Miranda needs to find her own place.

      @indiigo14 Před 11 měsíci +33

      I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.
      If you look back at the original show and one of the movies, Steve was pretty terrible to Miranda, I mean the guy got angry when she offer to buy a suit for him. He also felt threatened by her job because she made more money than him. Let's also not forget that he cheated on Miranda and everyone around her convinced her to give him another chance when she wanted to divorce Steve. Even when he apologized for cheating, he chose to cheat on her instead of talking to her about the problems in their marriage, he only sucked therapy when he realized that Miranda was about to leave him.

      For the suit, I am in the middle. I hate people trying to buy stuff for me because I feel guilty about the price. I am in a part time position and I never like feeling I owe people when I may not afford it. It stinks that I am financially dependent on my parents and it is hard paying them back for things because of that so I can see where Steve is coming from on that one. Also, he did not even want the suit in the first place and Miranda was tryin to make him more presentable for her crowd. I see your point on this too.
      I still stand by how he was a big part of their family and the work he put into that house though.

    Carries luxurious lifestyle that she has been able to maintain into her mid 50's is largely due to big and everything she inherited after his death. When she was writing her column she was not earning a lot of money- modest earnings by standards today and then. Her apartment was rent controlled which is how she had money to buy shoes and party. She got money from book sales but nothing in comparison to big's wealth. And buy her own addmittance in IJLT season 1 - publishing has largely died which is why she no longer needed Samantha as her publicist. Carrie has always been a very materialistic character - high lifestyle and material things are very important to her. Those things play into her infatuation with Big. To say he was a 'big mistake' just seems wrong - when the caliber of her lifestyle since their marraige/ and basically for the rest of her life was due to her relationship with big. Money isnt everything to everyone - but it is very important to Carrie. He gave her the material high life she had always wanted.

    I don't understand how people are upset with Carrie questioning her choice to stay with Big. It makes sense to look back on relationships that we once saw through rose-colored glasses in a different light. Especially after some time of separation. Carrie was use to toxicity and the push/pull of her's and Big's relationship. Now that's she dealt with grief, loss, and trying to carve out her own life being newly single and older, she's more than likely have had time to reflect on her own behaviors. Her forming this new relationship with Aiden without Big gives her space and time to reconsider that maybe what she wanted with Big was indicative of who she was at that time. Carrie was a mess then. Now she seems much more established, assured, and grounded. She is now realizing that she may in fact want a relationship that isn't complicated, messy, and just honest.

We know all know the real story of her personal life ( after the show was over) but they were playing on the reality.

      Well let’s see if their relationship was sane in the movies:
      First movie: after 10 years together , big would not give her the big wedding she wanted. He kept being focused on “how it would make him look”. Instead of thinking who cares about people, I’m marrying the love of my life.
      Then he jilted her! A fifty y.o. Man. There is no excuse for that. It’s extremely cruel. Also he did nothing to get back to her. No flowers, no coming at her door, nothing.
      Second movie: she’s still insecure with him. He flirts with Penelope Cruz and propose two days of off her in order to solve their problems. And like it happened in the first movie, they are apart for the whole movie and only reconcile at the end.
      Ajlt: they are happy for 5 mn before his death. But even in that short time, big refuse to go to lili’s recital ( all the husbands were presents except for him) so again he’s not making an effort to be part of her life and compromise for her.
      Also he leaves $1 million to an ex wife he married over Carrie in the past. No explanation to Carrie when he knows she would be crushed by it. Again, it’s all about him and their communication still sucked.
      I know they seem so glamorous and in love but if we look at his actions , a husband like that is a recipe for a lot of tears.
      I don’t buy their happiness. I believe however that she was head over heels for him and have low self esteem and severe abandonment issues.
      However, it doesn’t me

    • @SuperBrianMak
      @SuperBrianMak Před 10 měsíci

      @@cannellecinnamon5504 In the first movie, Carrie was preoccupied over the wedding and not being with Big, who had already been married twice. It became lavish, over-the-top and a superficial display when Big understood his and Carrie's relationship, despite all its drama, was more than theatrics. They had a simple chemistry only they could understand in spite of their ups and downs, and it wasn't something for the world TO understand, let alone see on display or put on a pedestal. It was for them and their close friends, not everyone else. Carrie got "carried away" and lost sight of what really mattered.
      He DID try getting back to her, first, the day of the wedding when he thought, "What the fuck am I doing?" Then, he sent her email after email during their time apart. So, Big, in spite of his mistakes, didn't do "nothing" as you've said.
      In the second movie, they hit a stride that all married couples face, which is the "what's next?" phase, or the "terrible twos," but it was clear they were alike and still "got" each other - as far as not wanting children at their age and being a couple trying to figure out what works best for them "and not what society thinks" (the movie it asks, "can we really expect anyone on the outside to understand what goes on between two other people?").
      As for AJLT, he gave Natasha the 1 million in his will to make amends for hurting her during and after the affair, and it was still apparently pennies compared to what Carrie received in the end.
      You don't have to "buy their happiness" because another couple's dynamic isn't for us to buy, emulate, or understand. Every relationship has a different journey to "happiness", and there will always work needing to be done - together or individually - regardless. We've shamed, labeled, judged Carrie and women in general too much, too long for their choices and doing what works for them. It's sad how we as a society still feel entitled to have a say in how women, real or not, should live their lives.

    Love Carrie. Love Aidan. But Carrie does not deserve Aidan. Aidan is an idiot for taking her back.
    Carrie was in a toxic relationship with Big. The only reason they had a happy marriage in AJLT Season One was because writers wrote it that way.
    Ninty-nine percent of the time, that doesn't happen IRL.
    But for writers to have Carrie say her relationship with Big may have been a mistake? Wasn't growth. It was a huge mistake. Because they had a happy marriage. Why would she say that now? Maybe that would have made sense at the end of Season 6, or the movie when Big jilted her at the altar. But not as a grieving widow who was happily married. It doesn't make sense? It also changes everything. It changes everything if we rewatch SATC knowing now she may think it was all a mistake. Although, it would have been different if Carrie came to that realization after Big jilted her at the wedding. Then that would have been growth. And you could look back feeling good that she finally got it. But now? Carrie doesn't have to think it was a mistake in order to get back with Aidan. Someone said, maybe she needed to tell herself to move forward? Unless they address later, it doesn't feel right.

    I was one of the few that felt Aiden was the BEST man for Carrie back then. People said he wasn’t enough for her and that he was a horrible choice of guy for her from the beginning, but I loved how he loved her. A good, decent honest man who truly loved her. Then Carrie found a way to lose him because she couldn’t walk away from Big.
    Even his cameo in the film felt odd and I felt some payback to Big by Aiden just kissing Carrie in Dubai.
    Now this return on AJLT seems just too awkward as they both have aged so much. I’m feeling that boat sailed away long ago between them, but who knows…?

I think its normal to want some of the hype of sex in the city but the characters had to get a bit mature for it to be realistic. Do we really want to see 50 somethings having sex nonstop or see them deal with real problems like death or their teenager wanting to be non binary?

    I like Aiden but I think they should have given Carrie a new love interest. There's too much baggage between them.

    I wasn’t watching it because I was so letdown by season 1, I thought I would catch up with it on ‘HBO on Demand, on my TV but its not even in there. I suppose I have to watch them on my phone😪

    Seeing Aiden back kinda makes me wish Mr. Big hadn’t died. I get that’s part of the point of the series, but I would’ve loved for Carrie to have to choose between the two of them again and this time choosing Aiden. It would have really shown her maturity. As it is though, Aiden’s reintroduction has brought the most mature and thoughtful relationship so far in the series. Not only with Carrie’s new insights, but how it effects other characters, such as Seema, as well.

      Carrie wouldn’t even think of Aidan if Big were still alive. She’s using Aidan to get over Big. AGAIN.

      no way, we could not see another Big and Aiden things again. Painful storyline. He was too much of a good guy for her. Don't get why he's so set on her, she's nothing great.

    How could Anthony not know Giuseppe didn’t need a green card!!! His the employer !! That mean he has Acces to his file and should know that Anthony was legal and had already his American nationality and security number. How dumb can those writers be? 😅

    I hate it all - they ABSOLUTLY DESTROYED Mirandas characters, Carrie is insufferable as always, they wont stop making old jokes - and no matter how much they try, Samantha is missing and you can feel it. SATC was iconic and original - why ruin it?

  • @jiminssi1014
    @jiminssi1014 Před 11 měsíci

    I have never watched SATC or this and i don't plan to, but i like watching YT channels dissect the characters and stuff. Watching this even though I've not seen all the history, i'd say the only reason now that Carrie has "grown" and is now happy/comfortable with Aidan is because Big is no longer there...if Big were alive and they were having issues again and Aidan was back, it'd be a repeat of SATC with her freaking out around Aidan and running back to Big even though Aidan was better for her....she can't back out now and use Big as an excuse like "it'll always be Big"...he's gone, she's moving on, and so there's technically no excuse for her to get skittish with Aidan because he's the only one there now, no one else she can pretend is much better and run to instead (if that makes sense?)

      Totally agree!
      She tried dating but found it too hard to build a real connection so she went back to Aiden.
      Now she will do anything for it to work because big is dead and Carrie doesn’t want to be alone. That’s her worst fear.

    I've been highly critical of this series, but I do agree, the characters are starting to hit their stride finally. It's still not great, but it's not cringeworthy awful like all the previous episodes have been. I still have an issue with Charlotte though. I feel like she's taken her character to this weird cartoonish/Lucille Ball type place with the odd pauses and exaggerated high-pitched, wide-eyed exclamations. I can't take this version of Charlotte seriously when I think of how she was in the series. Maybe she needs to dial it down a little?

    I’m just hoping they bring Bo Derek in to steal Aiden away. They keep reminding us how old they are, she’s older yet. I’m sure John could talk her into it, he got her to marry him.

    I don't like Aiden and Carrie together. I'm a huge Big fan. But we can't have him because they killed him off. It's a long long way from what it has been or could be. Mainly because Samantha is not there. Things cannot be great without her. It was always about the four of them, The show is too woke. There are so many things wrong with it I would have to write a book. But what little ground it has covered, it seems to have hit sort of a stride with some cringes along the way.

  • @chakryand
    @chakryand Před 10 měsíci

    It’s finding it’s footing but my note for S3 would be to bring back the storytelling style of the original. Each episode focusing on one of the core women as the MAIN storyline of that episode. It would give Seema, LTW and Nya much needed character development.
    Really think the show could thrive if they focus on Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, LTW and Seema as the core group of the show. And have Nya and Che be supporting cast members. Anthony doesn’t need so much screen time I have to say.

    Nice try The Take. There's no way on this planet this new series can compete with the original series. And the fact they brought Aiden back so Carrie can abuse shows how desperate the writers are to try to rekindle the magic as a patch to their bad writing
