I noticed how my female bird became more passive and sleeping much more often during the days. She would not leave the cage anymore for flying (the cage door is always kept open for them to go in and out as they wish). She loved to destroy carrots for example and no matter how big that carrot was, she would bite it down real fast with an orange face. That would make her smile all over the face (seeing that in her eyes and overall face expression). She would not touch the carrot anymore. I knew that something was wrong. Eventually I had to make some changes inside the cage and there I noticed that she could not fly! She was hiding her broken wing from me all this time!
Now, I believe that she might had a night fright experience but I am not sure. Overall, she is quite aggressive and combative towards her "love partner". Ah, I am so sad because with her having broken her wing, all the joy has left my home. My male budgie imitates her behavior and flies the fraction of the amount he was flying before. I am so sad.
I want to know what can be done to avoid at least the damage and injuries the budgies inflict upon themselves because of this "panic attack". My very first budgie I had when I was in elementary school came from a class friend of mine and that budgie had a broken wing, too.
Does the broken wing fully recover and can the budgie fly again?
This is such a sad experience.
