I'm trying to explain to some idiots on twitter how actually good was Toni Kukoč. I claim that Toni would have the same influence on the team as today Giannis Antetokounmpo have, and probably similar statistics. And this comes from a guy that's avid supporter of the team that Kukoč destroyed in the late '80's/early '90's. Plus, Toni won EVERYTHING (and being named the MVP in the process), except Olympic gold, which he probably would if Yugoslavia didn't fell apart.
@@markomarkovic5729 Hmmmm. You rally think, that Yugoslavia would beat the Dream Team with MJ, Pippen and all those big men like Ewing, Robinson? And those power fowards like Barkley and Malone? And bench players like Magic, Stockton and Drexler? I don't think so..... He played with Croatia against them. The games were close for a while, but in the end it was more than 30 points difference in BOTH matches. Adding some other players from Yugoslavia would be an "upgrade", but not enough to beat the Dream team.
@@markodrmic7524 Probably not at the 1992 Olympics, but that game would be much more close. Even U.S. basketball analysts believe it was the biggest game not to be played. But I think that Yugoslavia could have beaten them already at the 1996 Olympics - not because there were no Jordan, Magic and Bird, but because the best Yugoslav players were in their prime at the time. Serbia and Montenegro (ie FR Yugoslavia) was in the lead for most of the first half, the game was very uncertain until Vlade Divac got the 5th foul early in the 2nd half, and until Karl Malone intentionally injured Dejan Bodiroga, who played a great match together with Žarko Paspalj. After that, the team's game fell apart, because Željko Rebrača hasn't physically matured and couldn't guard much stronger and more experienced players. In addition, Dejan Savić injured during the semifinal match against Lithuania, and he was a very important player and could respond to American centers and power forwards with his strength. With Kukoč, Rađa, Dražen Petrović, Zdovc, maybe Naumoski, Yugoslavia could and I'm sure - would win. Btw, the former national coach of Yugoslavia, Duda Ivković, claims that Yugoslavia would win against the Dream Team in 1992, because those players played together for years, and he thinks that they were ready to win.
