Years ago a regular customer of my husband told us about having recently went to some sort of black tie event with celebrities. He mistook Ewan MacGregor for a waiter and ordered a drink. MacGregor actually brought him the drink and had a laugh introducing himself. This guy also told me Nicole Kidman looks just as stunning in person. Now that I'm writing this it must have been some event for Moulin Rouge. Anyway, he described Ewan MacGregor as very quiet and unassuming which is how he mistook him for a waiter in the first place. He was pretty embarrassed of course.
A friend of mine worked on a very small documentary with Ewan around that time, and he said he was a very down to earth guy as well. In fact my friend was expecting the birth of his first child about the same time as Ewan was as well so they briefly stayed in touch via email after the project extending congratulations when each other's child was born. One funny thing about this experience, my buddy asked Ewan what he would be working on after that gig and he said it was a musical. My buddy didn't think much of it at the time..... Until Moulin Rouge came out. That was the musical.
@@jasonflay8818 I remember years ago reading somewhere that Rufus Wainrwright was at a party and spent most of the night hanging out with Ewan M. because they were both fairly shy introverts. It's funny how many performers are actually quite shy. Another notable shy actor/comedian is Julian Barrett from the Mighty Boosh (and other more serious series like "Flowers" with Olivia Colman). I saw Rufus perform at small venues a couple of times and can confirm, he's a great performer but his stage patter, although quite engaging, is on the soft spoken side. This was years ago when he was touring for his first album.
